riverview: arrival
in-character
When characters arrive in Riverview Quarantine, it is because they have felt displaced - whether it is a lingering feeling, a fleeting thought, or because they are about to die. The portal reaches out for people with this feeling and draws them in. Characters will step or fall out of the portal into their new home, where they will be greeted by members of the perimeter guard and given orientation:
● If they are in good health, they will be taken to a comfortable room to rest and clean up.
● If they are in poor health, about to die, or are immediately post-death, they will be immediately transported to the hospital, where they will be revived, their wounds will be treated and they will be recovered enough to take care of themselves within 24 hours (how injured or sick they still are is up to you).
● After they are cleaned up and healthy, they will be shown a relatively cheesy orientation video that explains where they are and why.
● After the video, attendants will answer any reasonable questions (see below for common ones), register the new arrival's username to the network, and provide a device of the arrival's choosing to access it.
● Characters will undergo an interview to fill in census information for their citizen record, to do a bioscan to verify species and note any biologically-based special abilities (characters may request confidentiality regarding any part of their file besides name, and it will be respected). They will also find out the new arrival's job related skills and make any job offers - new arrivals do not have to accept or reject the offer right away.
● The new arrival will be escorted to their apartment in Community Housing.
● Please alert the mod via PM if your character would lie about major parts of their identity. This doesn't include a superhero's alter ego, or membership in a secret radical group, but basics such as giving a false name, or assuming someone else's identity altogether.
● New arrivals will receive the equivalent of one month's salary upon arrival, and one month of rent free in Community Housing. Some additional information on currency and economy in the Quarantine can be found here and here.
answers to common new arrival questions
● What would new arrivals who complain that they arrived by mistake and want to go home be told by the orientation team or other NPCs?
● What happens if a new arrival attacks the Perimeter Guard orientation team when they arrive through the portal?
● Can characters who are illiterate, deaf, blind, or have other special circumstances use the devices?
● Are new arrivals told during orientation that they came to Riverview because they felt displaced?
● Do new arrivals receive new clothing if their clothing from home is destroyed?
● What are new arrivals told about the state of their home reality when they arrive? Is this information given freely or do they have to ask? What does this mean for CRAU characters?
● Can a character lie about their identity when signing up for a network username? What happens if the person whose identity they've stolen arrives later?
● When new characters arrive, can they use digital or physical money they had on them when they arrived?
● Riverview is set on a moon orbiting the Capital World, so what does the sky look like on the moon including visibility of the Capital World, other satellites, and constellations?
