character information ● name: Victor Frankenstein (Doctor Whale) ● canon: Once Upon a Time ● canon point: 6.03 “The Other Shoe” ● age: physically he's in his mid-thirties but because of the curse, he is technically leaning more toward sixty
● abilities: He figured out how to harness the power of lightning through machines to bring the dead back to life, with the assistance of a magical heart. Since it seems that the magical heart is the key to successful resurrection, I don't see this particular ability needing to be nerfed. And honestly, it would have to be a very special circumstance for him to even consider doing it.
-He's also shown to have drawing talent. While in the Enchanted Forest, he was shown sketching one of the flowers and his sketch was a near-perfect copy of the flower.
-It's a safe assumption that Victor also knows how to fire a pistol, though he didn't actually pull the trigger on Gerhardt.
● strengths: Victor has a strong devotion to his family. It was because of this devotion that he focused his studies on trying to bring back the dead. At first it was to bring back his mother to please his father, and later it was to bring back his brother so their family would stay united. He would do just about anything for his family and has, like lying to Regina and reviving Daniel in an effort to get back home to Gerhardt. His devotion usually led to bad decisions but his focus was always on his family.
Victor also takes strangeness in stride. For example, on meeting Rumplestiltskin he accepted the idea of other worlds. He isn't easily startled by the weird and unusual, which is a good quality to have considering his life in Storybrooke. This likely comes from his attitude of doing what's unexpected to keep life interesting. He isn't usually caught off guard or left floundering for what to do when faced with an unusual situation.
Although he doesn't always show it in the best way, Victor is supportive and caring to the people of Storybrooke. He was there for David when the man was recovering from his coma, and attended the party for Mary Margaret after she was cleared of murder. He also reached out trying to help Ruby when she wanted to leave Storybrooke. He even acted as comfort for Regina after the supposed death of Henry before Emma broke the curse. After the curse broke, he was there helping with recovery and continued to act as the town's doctor. He never backed away from this job even when there were flying monkeys in his hospital or he was personally attacked by Zelena.
● weaknesses: Victor isn't afraid to speak his mind and act defiant of authority. He can be blunt in his language, bordering on unprofessional or creepy at times. He doesn't make much of an effort to sugar-coat his words or put other people at ease. His defiance of authority isn't always bad, like when he continued his studies despite his father trying to enlist him as an army medic. But it could also be potentially dangerous, like when he led an angry mob to Regina's door to attack her after the curse broke.
Victor carries a lot of responsibility and guilt for what happened to his brother. Ruby helped him come to terms with this a little, but those feelings are still there. Victor already had a responsibility as the eldest to take care of his brother, so when Gerhardt died because of Victor's actions, that responsibility was compounded and he was weighed down by guilt. This could even be expanded to include a responsibility for all his patients, as he was visibly upset when he didn't know how to help Henry after the boy ingested poison. Greg Mendel was the straw that broke him and while he's no longer at a suicidal point, he does care deeply about his patients and still holds himself accountable for keeping them healthy.
Victor isn't much of a people person. He tends to keep to himself unless he's needed in a medical capacity. He doesn't have many close ties, thus not having people he confides in. This feeds into his tendency to speak bluntly and it causes him to internalize his emotions until they break like when he attempted suicide. It's possible he keeps a distance because he doesn't handle loss well.
● job skills (optional): Medical Doctor- Surgery/OBGYN, pediatrician, general practitioner. Can probably fill in any necessary role that a medical doctor would have in a hospital, but these are the ones he's shown to do in canon. Science Teacher? Mary Margaret thought it was a good idea. Knowledge of chemistry, anatomy, electricity, probably other stuff not shown on screen. He clearly has leadership skills, since he was able to round up an angry mob and take them to Regina's front door.
● housing (optional): He'd prefer private but whatever works is fine
● network username: I feel like with public addresses, he'd use “j.whale” because of the negative connotations to his real name. Or maybe “prometheus” if he wanted to be more true to himself without using his real name.
