character information
name: Clarice “Blink” Fong
canon: The Gifted.
canon point: End of episode 13, ‘X-Roads’
age: 29 ( there’s no canon age so I’ve just guessed. )

(canon) background: Gifted Wiki / Marvel Database.

abilities:
Portal Creation: Clarice’s power gives her the ability to create spacial warps - these are like doorways or portals that she can open in her near vicinity. Most often she uses them for travelling as she and others can jump through these portals. Clarice does need to have seen her destination to be able to use these powers correctly, as shown when she accidentally cuts a dog toy in half. It can also be affected by her mood - at one point she panics and can’t make it work.

Though it isn’t shown in Gifted canon, with time and training she may also be able to use her powers offensively ( like in other x-media ) by using portals to turn attacks back on people.

strengths:
Caring: Despite being almost standoffish, Clarice is definitely one of those people who will go above and beyond to help. We see this quite often throughout the show. She’s either in the background gathering supplies for the wounded or she’s directly comforting those who are hurt. She’s quick to help the Underground because they helped her - trying to aid them in getting Lorna back, telling John when Marcos is in danger. So regardless of the fact that they’re relative strangers to her, she still does what she can in order to help.
Resilience: Life has not been kind to Clarice. She spent much of her youth in foster care due to her appearance. At fifteen she decided to leave the home and make her own way because she was tired of hiding. She’d been on her own since then, spending much of her time on the run from both Purifiers and later, Sentinel Services. This would break most people, but Clarice comes across as capable. She knows how to survive in a cruel world and what she needs to do to keep going. She’s there to help when it comes down to it, to make sure other mutants don’t have to go through what she had.
Adaptable: Clarice seems to bounce from place to place a lot. Before the Underground she did odd jobs with a group ( though they later turned out to be part of the Brotherhood ) and she uses her powers to help her and others get what she needs. Despite often voicing her concerns when a situation changes, Clarice doesn’t give up. When the mission to save Reed and Lorna goes wrong, she waits for her moment to be able to help, creating a different portal for which the Underground mutants to escape.

weaknesses:
Self-Esteem: Clarice hides as much of her mutation as she possibly can. Her pointed ears are covered by her hair and in the beginning of the series she doesn’t tend to look at people head on due to her unnaturally bright eyes. She’s self-deprecating about her “beauty mark”, a scar that runs across one eye. She also finds it difficult to believe that people would want her around for anything but her powers, concluding that John didn’t tell her about Sonia’s memory trick because of it and referring to herself as a “portable door maker”.
Avoidance: She is always running. When Clarice can’t deal with her feelings she flees. We see in canon that she sleeps with her shoes on, obviously so that she’s ready in case she needs to escape. She also portals away when she thinks John is using her, choosing to live the same homeless life as she had before even if it means she’s not safe. She also struggles to voice her concerns, instead using sarcasm as a way of deflecting from what really matters.
Trust: There have been times in Clarice’s life where people have betrayed her because of who she is - like her boyfriend refusing to stand up to the Purifiers - and this has created a suspicion of everyone she comes into contact with. She finds it difficult to accept that the Underground want to help keep her safe, choosing instead to believe they want something out of her. She also tends not to be as honest as people would like because she’s sure they’ll turn their back on her or send her away. This is why she keeps her involvement with the Brotherhood a secret.

job skills (optional): The only thing she’s ever mentioned in canon is being a dishwasher, but she might make a really nifty delivery girl if it’s needed.
housing (optional): No preference.
