character information
name: Adam Parrish
canon: The Raven Cycle
canon point: Post-epilogue of The Raven King
age: 18

(canon) background: Wiki, which has the general stuff but I can provide more background if needed. (content warning: child abuse)

abilities: Adam sacrificed his free will to Cabeswater, a magic forest, so that no one else could use it. By the end of the series, Cabeswater sacrifices itself and Adam no longer has the magic it granted him. However, in order to previously control his powers, he had to learn some techniques from psychics. Because of that, he can read tarot cards and scry.

Otherwise, he's highly intelligent and can fix just about anything.

strengths:

Intelligent: Adam is a genius. He works his way into a prestigious college prep academy where anything below a B average is grounds for expulsion, and he is at the top of all of his classes—except for Latin, where he's second to Ronan. Other than academic intelligence, he's also resourceful and the one his friends tend to look to for solutions. He's creative in his plans, and even succeeds in blackmailing a master criminal.
Determined: Adam works hard for everything in his life. In addition to homework, working for a magic forest, and searching for a dead Welsh king, he maintains three part-time jobs. He needs each job to be able to afford tuition for school, and he needs school to be able to go to college. Despite how difficult it is for him, he would rather work himself to the bone than give up on his goals.
Willing to learn: He's smart, but he doesn't know everything. He thinks he's right a lot of the time, but he's always open to learning about something new or changing his behavior. While dating Blue, he treats her poorly in some ways, and she is the one to teach him about better ways to view and treat women. He clearly demonstrates that he's learned how to be more of a feminist in subsequent books. Similarly, he takes a lot of time to self-reflect. He has anger problems, he can be an asshole, and when people call him out on it, he takes it to heart. He actively works on bettering himself and is easily the character who grows the most in the series.

weaknesses:

Insecure: Adam grew up in an abusive home where he was told every day that he was worthless. He has significant issues with his self-esteem, and even at one point does not believe he is capable of loving or being loved. This presents itself in the way he tries to hide his accent or act more like Gansey, simply because he believes he needs to change himself to be successful. He is incredibly self-conscious because he believes that everyone else can see his defects and will think less of him.
Proud: Because of the environment he grew up in, Adam doesn't like being helped. He sees most attempts to help as pity or a way to control him. More than anything, he desires independence and doesn't want to feel like he owes anyone. By the end of the series, he's working on accepting help and not seeing his friends as people who pity him.
Callous: He tends to be rational as opposed to emotional and this leads him to seeing the world in very different ways from his friends. For example, he kills their Latin teacher who was attempting to kill them. Despite Gansey being horrified by that, he sees it as acceptable because their teacher was a murderer and therefore it was right to kill him. He can be selfish in that he doesn't want to concern himself with other people's problems since he has enough of his own. In general, he tends to be reserved and analytical, even toward feelings like love.

skills (optional): Fixing cars/other things, researching, being frugal.
housing (optional): No preference.

[ Using text because no one needs to hear his accent before actually meeting him. ]

Hi. Anyone else feel like they have too much time here? I thought I'd be glad to get away from school and work. Now I'm a little bored. [ He genuinely has no idea how to spend free time. What better way than what he's used to? ]

So does anyone have an opening for a part-time worker? My name is Adam Parrish. I'd like to fit it in around my main job, so flexible hours would be nice. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, but I'm a quick learner otherwise. I'd be particularly interested in helping out in any science labs, figuring out the physics behind this place or studying the flora and fauna, that sort of thing.

Or maybe you could just recommend a hobby.
[ He has None. ] Thanks.
