character information
name: Patches (with or without plenty of titles).
canon: Dark Souls.
canon point: III-ish... to explain, Patches, as a character, appears in multiple Souls game made by FromSoft. While each entry in the series does take place in a different universe, there's also undeniable connection between each universe, and the inhabitants of it rely very heavily on "souls" - literally, human souls, which can almost always be summoned to appear long past their deaths and even on different planes of existence. Or, they can willfully invade, for the sole purpose of attacking and killing. TL;DR: Patches traverses a bunch of existences as an eternally annoying shithead.
age: Looks like late 20s or early 30s.

(canon) background: DS1 flavor / DS3 flavor

abilities: Nothing magical, since he thinks it's stupid. Patches is a sneak; he'd rather lure an enemy into a trap and watch them fall to their death than beat their brains out in any case. When he's got no option though, he'll use a spear and a simple shield, and he's covered in leather armor, suggesting he's more about dexterity and quickness than pure strength. Definitely fights dirty, if he's able.

strengths: Patches' biggest strength is something like charisma; despite how much of a jackass he is, he's apparently good at talking his way out of people killing him. He's survived way longer than he probably should've and there's always an option to "forgive" him in each game.

He's also quite confident in himself and has something of an ego. This is made obvious in the fact he has the audacity to think a simple apology will clear all wrongdoings, and in DS3, plenty of his shop item descriptions seem written by himself, as they do nothing but compliment him. Patches. The best guy ever that everyone loves. Patches also hates clerics. And religion. And God. Or rather the idea of God, because he's a pretty vocal atheist. In the very medieval world of Dark Souls, with men and women of faith around every corner, it takes a real sense of independence to go around announcing your hatred of something that a lot of powerful magic-users believe in.

Oddly, despite everything that points to the contrary, Patches seems to have a loose sense of honor among thieves. There's a character in DS3 named Greirat, an imprisoned kleptomaniac whom the player character can free. Patches later tells the player Greirat "did him a good turn" and that he "owes him". Attacking Greirat will make Patches hostile, and Patches will even go try to save him on one of his thief-quests at some point. He does this in a disguise, which hilariously suggests that Patches does have some tiny shred of a heart, but he doesn't want anyone to know about it.

weaknesses: Patches is a slimy snake. He's deceitful. He backstabs almost everyone he meets, either figuratively or literally. He has kicked a shit-ton of people over cliffs to their deaths or near-deaths. He has sprung a bunch of traps on others, which also lead to death or near-death. This means he makes far, far more enemies than friends, and certain characters comment on having met him and wanting to kill him for what he's put them through.

The man is selfish; all he really cares about is hoarding currency and treasure, and he tends to care more about what a traveler is carrying on them than said traveler's life. He's kind of sadistic; Patches clearly enjoys whenever someone falls into a trap of his and always mocks them for it. Patches is made out to be one of the most detestable characters in the games and his reasoning for what he does is little more than "just cuz". Clearly this atrocious nature of his means he has very few connections or positive relationships in his life. Patches doesn't seem particularly bothered by this, but in the end, he is human. He might be just a little bit lonely underneath it all.

skills (optional): Skilled in the use of light weapons and armor. Manages to smile even in the most grim situations. Incredible survivor despite the odds of a horrific and unforgiving landscape, like a goddamn cockroach. Friendliest, loyalest, and most harmless man you'll ever meet!! He'd suck at most jobs due to lack of team spirit but he'd do pretty well as a perimeter surveyor, given his ability to travel and persevere on his own, and his penchant for digging up loot. He'd be willing to listen to orders if he was getting paid for it.
housing (optional): Honestly he should probably live alone for the safety of... whoever his poor potential roommate would be. Likely would not want to stay in the communal housing, so he'll go find his own crappy little place somewhere.
