● abilities: As someone with angel blood, Max has above average strength, agility, stamina, and reflexes, but he hasn't had any combat training so far, so he's not a fighter like other Shadowhunters by any means yet. Being a Shadowhunter also gives him the ability to see through magical illusions. While he does have enhanced abilities above a regular human, he's still only 9 years old so his abilities aren't what they will be when he's older and trained. While he'd probably be able to fight off a regular adult human of average strength if someone tried to kidnap him, he could still be fairly easily grabbed and carried off before he'd have a chance to fight back and get free.
● strengths: Max's greatest strength is that he is brave. He may be nine and not have any combat training as a Shadowhunter yet, but he still hates being left in the dark about things. He wants to know what's going on, even if it might be something scary. He's not the kind of person who wants to stay hidden safely away while stuff is going down either. In a scene where his brother tries to get him to safety after a demon attack, he's shown to be struggling to get down instead of letting himself be carried off and wanting to see what's going on. When his siblings are going off to a place that's known to be creepy, he demands to go with them and has to be locked up to prevent him from following. He's ready to do what his family does and very much wants to start training to be an official Shadowhunter like the rest of them.
For being a kid, he's also a mostly serious person, most likely due to his family fighting demons all the time. He's never seen joking or teasing someone about something. He's been described as having a kind of air about him that makes him seem older than he is. When dangerous situations crop up, he isn't shown outwardly panicking. For the most part, he talks to people respectfully.
He has a good heart and just wants to be helpful to others. He's eager to do anything he can to help his family, such as when he leaps to offer to go get his sister's phone she's left somewhere else, saying he won't get in trouble if he gets caught sneaking around because he's so young. Anyway he can help, he wants to, even if he's not always allowed to.
● weaknesses: Max doesn't always listen, even when it's for his own good. The first time he ever shows up, his mother told him to stay in his room and when she reminds him of this after he doesn't, he says completely straight faced that he doesn't remember her saying that. He desperately wants to help even if helping would most likely get him in trouble since he doesn't have any combat training. While he does have more maturity than someone else his age, he is still a kid. He doesn't like it when people take his stuff or call him a kid. If he's cross with someone, he'll be sure to tell them or give them the cold shoulder. He can be stubborn about things. He gets very frustrated when people dismiss him as being too young to know what's going. There's a scene where he tries to tell his sister he saw someone sneaking around outside but she dismisses it as him just seeing things, making him feel frustrated she's not taking him seriously.
● job skills (optional): N/A ● housing (optional): I'd like him to be placed with his brother Alec if possible!
● prose/action sample: Max plopped down on his bed with a bounce, looking around his room with a little smile. It was good to be home after all that traveling, even if he'd wished he could have stayed in Alicante with his father a bit longer. The city was amazing and wasn't anything like New York - at least not like the little of New York that he had seen. One day he'd be old enough and trained enough he could go out into the city without having to have someone watching him 24/7 and could go wherever he wanted instead of having to stay cooped up safely in the Institute just about all the time.
He could tell his mom hadn't been very happy about something as they'd traveled back home. It was probably because she'd been told Jace had fought and killed a Greater Demon. He thought it was awesome and he couldn't wait to ask Jace about it. He was excited to see all of his siblings, wanting to tell them all about the things he'd seen in Alicante, like the armory and the places they made seraph blades. He'd been a bit disappointed when they'd gotten back and his siblings weren't there.
His mom had told him to go stay in his room and unpack his suitcase and Max frowned down at it now; unpacking didn't sound fun at all when he was bursting to go talk to his siblings. He hoped they got back soon. Unzipping the suitcase, he opened it up and picked up the new manga book he'd gotten at the airport, flipping through it again. He thought the pictures looked cool but he didn't think he was reading it right since the plot wasn't making any sense when he read it like a regular book. Setting the book down carefully, he flipped the suitcase over to dump the rest of its contents out on the bed.
Just then, he thought he heard the sound of the elevator. Excitement filled him and he hoped that meant his siblings were back. Quickly scooping up all the clothes that had been in his suitcase, he dumped them in the laundry hamper, regardless of if they were all dirty or not. The rest of the things he left lying on the bed for now. He could put them away later, and that counted as unpacking his suitcase, right? There was nothing in it anymore.
Satisfied that he could say he had unpacked his suitcase if his mother asked him what he was doing out of his room, he raced out the door to go find his siblings, eager to tell them all about the things he'd seen and ask them if anything cool had happened here while he'd been away. He definitely wanted to hear more about the Greater Demon Jace had taken down. His brother was so cool.
