character information
name: Bellamy Blake
canon: The 100
canon point: Season 4 episode 4, after learning about Octavia's "death".
age: 23

(canon) background: Here, plus season 4 and individual episode summaries linked here.
(original) world: n/a

abilities:
On the Ark, Bellamy was training to be a guard, and this continued on the ground. He's comfortable with hand-to-hand combat as well as the use of firearms, and he's a good shot, too. He's also good at thinking strategically and thinking on his feet, as well as managing through tough situations. He doesn't have any superhuman abilities, but he's strong and pretty hardy! Bellamy also has pretty significant knowledge of history and classical mythology. He's a secret nerd.

strengths:
Bellamy was essentially born and raised in a post-apocalyptic hellscape. On the Ark, this meant everything was strictly rationed and monitored, and it means Bellamy is used to getting by on scraps and working through near constant hunger. He’s resourceful, and he’s good at working his way through problems in an unconventional fashion. This also makes him stubbornly determined. It’s nearly impossible for him to give up, even if the odds seem insurmountable and everyone is telling him it’s hopeless.

Much of this comes from his strong sense of compassion—if you’re on Bellamy’s side or he considers you part of his circle, he’ll do anything for you. He’s a people person, good at reading others and understanding their strengths and what makes them tick, which makes him great at inspiring people when they’re struggling and at connecting with people on a personal level.

While most people would be hard pressed to call him friendly or cheery, he demonstrates his affection for people in very obvious ways. This, along with his ability to make hard choices that no one else is willing to and his intense need to get things done makes him a very good leader. Clarke says that people are willing to fight and die for him, and she’s right. People tend to trust Bellamy, partially from his pure refusal to leave any of “his people” behind, and partially because he’s willing to put his life on the line to save them. This is an intense protectiveness born from the fact that the vast majority of his life was spent keeping his sister and mother safe from the guards and the higher ups on the Ark, and it’s something he’s pretty much incapable of switching off.

weaknesses:
The flip side of Bellamy’s compassion is that he can be overemotional. He tends to think with his heart, not with his head, and while he’s good at planning, waiting too long when lives are on the line drives him nuts, and he’s far more likely to forge into a dangerous situation to help than to sit around on the hope that things will get safer.

Part of this is because Bellamy has a truckload of guilt, starting with the execution of his mother and piling on all of the mistakes and people he couldn’t save on the ground. Bellamy thinks that once people are under his wing, he needs to protect them no matter what, and he tends to base his self-worth on how successful that is. As you can imagine, he also has a hell of a lot of anger issues, much of these drawing from the clear classism and terrible authority figures on the Ark. He doesn’t trust those in charge easily, and in fact, he has trouble trusting in general. Bellamy tends to divide the world into “his people” and “everyone else”. On the Ark, his mother and sister were the only one he could really trust, and while this circle has expanded and continues to, that us vs them mentality is still a part of him he can’t quite shake.

All of this ends up wrapped up in the fact that he has trouble forgiving the people who wrong him, or worse, the people who wrong or hurt his people. He can be vindictive, and he can make poor, impulsive decisions based off of his guilt, anger and grief.

job skills (optional): Mostly combat training since he was a guard back home. He has pretty significant leadership skills and would mention his knowledge of history if it seems relevant in the orientation.
housing (optional): Anywhere is fine!
