riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)

submit an application

Please fill out the information in the form below and submit it in its entirety in one comment to this entry. If your application doesn't fit in one comment, it needs to be trimmed - application standards are weighted to quality rather than quantity.

Oh man I missed this somehow UH

His Riding skill allows him control over divine beasts and I think also horses, I'm not sure if it extends to other animals but he's fond of cats and can probably handle animals fine

REALLY specific but he has pretty comprehensive knowledge of Antiquity, not just Egypt but Ancient Greece and anything preceeding (i.e. Mesopotamian and Indus River Valley). AGAIN not sure how it'd be useful but there you go.

He also apparently has some significant knowledge of architecture since in Fate/ canon he actually designed the temples that were built during his rule, several of which are considered great feats of construction to this day so that's PROBABLY worth something.

The problem is mainly that he's really good at being A Pharaoh and there isn't really a direct useful equivalent to that skillset??? I dunno.

character information
name: Jean-Claude
canon: Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton
canon point: Early in The Killing Dance (Book 6)
age: 500ish? We never get a solid year. He's wily that way.

(canon) background: Wikipedia page! Gasp, actual Wikipedia.

abilities: Jean-Claude is a vampire, which means he is immortal, has super strength, super speed, and OP mind control powers through eye contact. He's a bit ridiculous. He can be killed by having his head cut off or a stake driven through his heart, although that latter one can get questionable in achieving it with vamps his age-- AB is a fairly realistic canon in that the physical strength necessary to drive a wooden stake into someone's chest is enough that the vamp tends to kill you before you can finish it. He can also be killed by exposure to sunlight, although in Riverview, as per an FAQ response, I'd like to give him gradual acclimation to the sun as it's a different dimension. In canon, he is literally dead during the day, although Jean-Claude is powerful enough that he can wake up before sundown. He also has heightened senses and accelerated healing, like all vamps, and can turn people into being vampires by drinking from them three nights in a row and them dying on the final night, although he doesn't do this often.

Jean-Claude in particular has some more exclusive vampiric skills: firstly, wolves are his animal to call, which means he can control literal wolves and werewolves. For some vamps this is master/servant, but Jean-Claude tends to treat it as a benefactor/pet sort of relationship, or a partnership, depending on the werewolf's power level. He can also fly (more like controlled levitating) although that's not his foremost skill, which is voice manipulation. Jean-Claude can make his voice sound like a physical sensation, and provoke emotional reactions from people from the sound of his voice alone.

This all ties into his vampiric bloodline, which arises from a vampire lady named Belle Morte. Jean-Claude is insanely beautiful, naturally so, but even more when enhanced by his powers. He can seduce with a look (literally) and with a physical touch he can incite lust. He's what's known as an incubus-- he can gain power not just from blood but from sex and lust itself. Fortunately for my need to get permissions, Jean-Claude does not engage in non-consensual anything, although he can be a bit ambiguous with it at times.

He does need blood on a regular basis unless he feeds off of enough lust-- which he can do by merely being around those who are feeling lustful; he doesn't have to engage in sex, although it's stronger that way. AB vamps cannot starve to death, but they do get insane with blood craving and almost feral, given enough time. They also can't use mammalian blood as a substitute, and bagged blood is of questionable use. But Jean-Claude is a player and he usually doesn't suffer for donors of either blood or sex. At worst, I plan on handwaving that he seduced some NPCs -- all of which he'd leave having had the best night of their lives.

Finally, anyone with a religious symbol (definition unclear in canon) who has sincere faith can drive him off with it. It will light up like flaming sulphur in his presence, and will burn him severely upon direct contact, as will holy water and other things blessed by religious orders.

strengths:
→ Cunning. Jean-Claude's foremost quality is probably how cunning he is. He is almost always two or three steps ahead of his enemies-- and his allies. He anticipates actions and plans for them far ahead of time, and always somehow manages to survive, even if he doesn't come out on top. He's rarely the most powerful vampire out there, but he might be the best at surviving.

→ Loyal. Despite how duplicitous he can be, and frankly high-handed, Jean-Claude is intensely loyal to those he cares for. Calling him loving doesn't quite encompass it, although he is loving; but he holds a torch for Asher centuries after they break apart and Asher grows to hate him, and he is steadfast to his devotion to Anita no matter how much she keeps rejecting him. He puts up with a lot.

→ Generous. One of his favorite things to do is pamper his loved ones and his pets (read: his wolves, regular blood donors, etc.). He goes completely over the top in gifts and accommodations. No one would ever say he's not demonstrative or appropriately appreciative to those who support him. He is the definition of extra in so many ways.

weaknesses:
→ Manipulative. Saying Jean-Claude would rather ask forgiveness than permission is a vast understatement. He is practical and honest about who he is, but if that won't get him what he wants, he has no qualms about going behind someone's back or revealing selective information to them that achieves his ends best.

→ Ruthless. Vampire politics necessitate a strong hand and even cruelty at times. Jean-Claude is not often cruel, but as he tells Anita once, if he had been kind to his vampire underlings they would rebel, and he would have to punish them, which is a position neither of them would benefit from. He is a harsh master and will punish or torture or subject his servants to whatever is necessary for them to come out of it alive and obedient. That is merely who he must be to exist as a master vampire.

→ Deceitful. Frankly, he lies a lot. Constantly. Often. Directly and implicitly. This arises from a lifetime of being at the bottom of the totem pole, rented out for Belle Morte's amusement in return for her saving Asher, and his human lifetime as a whipping boy to a nobleman's son. Jean-Claude is used to having no way to defend himself or enforce boundaries, and as a result, he has gotten extremely good at lying as his only recourse. He hasn't given that up just because he's Master now.

job skills (optional): In canon, he is primarily a businessman when he's not playing vampire politics as Master of the City. Jean-Caude is extremely professional and makes an excellent politician and CEO. He owns J.C. Corp, which operates a variety of vampire tourism businesses, including a stirp club, a danse club, a comedy club, and a circus with dark supernatural acts. I'm not sure if he could be placed anywhere, but if he isn't given a business of his own he'll likely use some shady mind powers to ensure he gets a small business loan to start a bar or something of the like, and then invite characters to perform and to visit. Given he's an actual incubus with voice powers, he is a huge showman and does fantastically at stage management.

housing (optional): Private room, please!

character information
name: John Egbert
canon: Homestuck
canon point: Post-credits
age: 20

(canon) background: MSPA Wiki
(original) world: n/a

abilities:

Godtier Flight - Magic-based flight with no known limitations, beyond external forces. I.e., he would still have difficulty flying in high winds or other poor conditions.

Godtier Conditional Immortality - John cannot die unless his death is heroic or just. The definition/distinction of heroic vs. just is canonically vague, however heroic conditions tend to be where the person puts others before themselves, even at great danger, or where they display exceptional courage in the face of danger. Just deaths, on the other hand, are those deaths at the hands of other forces (people or otherwise) that would stop them from committing a terrible act. If his death is neither heroic nor just, he will be revived within no more than an hour.

Godtier Duds - An outfit that comes inherent with his godtier status, but that can be worn at will (meaning he can still wear regular clothes!), and whose style can be changed at will as well. They don't need to be washed or changed, and are apparently very comfortable, due to being enchanted.

The Windy Thing - ...is its formal name. Ability to call forth and control The Breeze, a big gust of wind that he can use to perform lots of different tasks. He can also use it to dissolve himself into a gust of wind, or into a small tornado, usually while under duress in order to escape. Detailed further on the MSPA Wiki.

Fraymotifs - John has four known special abilities (Feathercadence, Pneumatic Progression, Breathless Battaglia, and Ivories in the Fire [with Dave Strider]) whose exact functions are unknown but are likely wind-themed, and are likely formal names for different techniques/uses of The Windy Thing. He can also combine his abilities with those of others to form special attacks, the nature of which depends on the abilities being combined.

strengths:

Optimistic - While not blindly optimistic, John shows a great deal of positive thinking that is largely fueled by skepticism. He doesn't necessarily believe that everything will somehow turn out okay, but in any situation, he finds that the less desirable result is also probably the less likely. As such, he isn't prone to wallowing in despair, despite some of the tragedies that have occurred in his young life.

Easy-going - His easy-going nature makes it easy for him to take things in stride and even when his friends rib him, he doesn't take it too personally. He can take a little pranking and joking at his expense, just as well as he can dish it out. He likes to joke around and tends not to take himself-- or anyone else-- too seriously. Though it is possible to get on his nerves, he has a lot of patience for well-meaning tomfoolery.

Grounded - Out of his group of friends, John displays the most down-to-earth personality of the four. Attentive to the needs of others, he is invested in his friendships, and chooses to help more often than not. His intentions are neither wholly altruistic, nor self serving. He's just that kind of guy, and it just makes more sense to be helpful than harmful.

Inventive - When confronted with a problem, John thinks on his feet and is able to come up with creative solutions, which serves him well in the challenges he faces during Sburb, where creativity is key in creating the tools they need to succeed. He shows no hesitation in experimenting and trying things out, even if they don't always work.

weaknesses:

Tactless - While he is generally well-meaning, John has a tendency to get carried away. As such, he sometimes lacks the tact necessary to gracefully handle a given topic, and can be a little crude. There's no malicious intent, just a lot of cluelessness and a lack of brain-to-mouth filter that can lead conversations in an awkward direction.

Passive - Being easy going and down-to-earth comes with its drawbacks; in stereotypical nerd fashion, John is particularly passive when it comes to being told what to do. Despite being de facto leader of his friend group, he tends to listen more than he leads, and is prone to taking bad advice-- or at least considering it. While he won't exactly jump off a bridge if he's told to, he might at least entertain the thought, however briefly.

Belligerent - While capable of taking playful ribbing, it's possible to rub him the wrong way, and when he gets in the mood, he can go off on a bit of a temper tantrum. Combined with his other shortcomings, it can make for a very unimpressive fit when he gets riled up. Whether it's yelling or smashing his phone with a hammer, it's not very becoming of him, and not very mature, either.

Withdrawn - Despite his kindness, John doesn't often talk too deeply about his own feelings, instead preferring to keep them to himself, and becomes embarrassed on rare occasion that he does choose to share-- or when something is shared on his behalf. Although he might let others get a surface level read, or might acquiesce when pressed, he's not forthcoming with his emotions. After the end of Sburb, as his friends become busy, he becomes more detached, and is less inclined to socialize.

job skills (optional): John would say that he's good with his hands, can swing a hammer pretty well, and people seem to like talking to him.
housing (optional): Inclined towards Floor 13 because ~superstition~ but I'm okay with whatever!

character information
name: Clarke Griffin
canon: The 100
canon point: end of 4x01, “echoes”
age: 18

(canon) background: Clarke on the 100 Wiki

abilities:

skaikru. Born on the Ark, the amassed flotilla of twelve combined space stations, Clarke is one of many who has been engineered to be a universal blood donor. Being born in space has also granted her and all the other Arkers the ability to withstand excessive amounts of radiation, rendering the residual radiation from nuclear war 100 years earlier ineffective against them.

privileged. As the daughter of the Chief Engineer and Chief Medical Officer, she was granted a well-rounded education and enjoyed privileges that people lower in the Ark's hierarchy couldn't afford. She's versed in history and warfare tactics, grew up playing chess with her best friend Wells, and quotes Oppenheimer like it's nbd.

survivalist. Before the 100 were sent to earth, they received basic survivalist training; hunting and gathering for food, how to make fire, water collection and locating shelter in the wilderness. In addition she received some basic weapons training from Bellamy Blake, and can handle a variety of guns efficiently.

healer. Her mother's status on the Ark as Chief Physician allowed her some medical training before she was sent to earth, and Clarke puts that to use on the ground in the form of treating broken bones, wound healing, recognition of medicinal herbs and plants and containment of pathogenic disease.

strengths:

intelligence. Clarke is well-read, having been given a privileged education aboard the Ark and being a smart cookie in general. Not only is she a quick study and an avid map-reader, but she’s privy to medical training with her mother having been the chief medical officer, and she earns the camp's respect when she's able to put her knowledge to good use on the ground from the very start, such as when she saves both Jasper and Finn from their respective mortal wounds.

strategy. Her intelligence lends her to come up with ideas that result in saving lives on numerous occasions, both violent and non-violent solutions. Clarke isn’t a violent person by nature and will always consider a diplomatic solution, but she’s rational enough to realize when negotiations might fail, such as the attempt on the bridge with the grounder lieutenant Anya. Later on however she successfully manages to broker a truce with Commander Lexa (at the expense of Finn, unfortunately), and they combine their armies to march on Mount Weather. She makes an effort numerous times as the series goes on to surround herself with strong allies, in an attempt to preserve her peoples’ safety.

perseverence. Clarke won’t go down without a fight. Though she’s not physically strong (see ‘weaknesses’), she has an indomitable spirit and she will get up and fight again when knocked down, as long as she isn't unconscious. Even imprisoned in Mount Weather with the surviving 47 other delinquents, she formulates a way to escape and does so alone when no one else believes them to be in danger. She survives against what seem to be terrible odds, driven by the intense desire to save lives.

weaknesses:

physical. Clarke is strong of heart and mind, but she’s not very imposing on the physical scale. Standing only about 5’5" (Eliza Taylor’s height) and not particularly built like an athlete, she can’t very well keep up with some of the other members of Skaikru trained as soldiers and militia. It doesn’t affect her survivability on the whole because her head can get her out of many dilemmas, but it’s a weakness nevertheless.

guilt complex. What she’s done for Skaikru since the moment she’d landed on the ground haunts her. Her guilt over the deaths of her own people whom she couldn’t protect – Wells Jaha and Finn Collins, for examples – is only compounded by the deaths of others she’s caused to protect the rest. Her kill count includes about 300 grounders with the dropship rocket fuel, 250 in TonDC, and approximately 350 more people inside Mount Weather. The excessive blood on her hands has led her to believe she may not be worth saving, herself.

love is weakness. Something that Lexa says to her, at a particularly vulnerable moment during Finn’s funeral, and something that Clarke takes to heart a little too seriously for a while. The problem with Clarke, though, is that she loves too much despite her efforts to be a cool-headed leader, and her devotion to her people and her friends and a few in particular can be and has been used against her. In Polis, during ALIE’s takeover, her mother correctly assumes that the only way to get her to give up the Flame is by her friends’ tortures – starting with her co-leader, her right hand, Bellamy Blake.

job skills (optional): Clarke is brainy and would be able to contribute to a variety of tasks, but she’d probably best be used in a medical facility, given her training both on the Ark as well as on the ground.
housing (optional): She won’t mind any particular accomodations, but once she discovers Bellamy Blake is in the city, she will insist on changing quarters to accommodate him, either bringing him in hers or v-v.

Steve Rogers | MCU | Reserved.

[personal profile] stevegrogers 2017-07-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
player information
name: Snow.
age: 26+.
contact: [plurk.com profile] snowflakecrowns. also, pm!
other characters: n/a. New player.

character information
name: Steve Rogers.
canon: MCU.
canon point: During Civil War, just after the text he gets about Peggy's passing.
age: Biologically he is 99 but appears to be 30ish.

(canon) background: Keep fighting.
(original) world: n/a

abilities: The super soldier serum has enhanced Steve not only physically but also mentally. This can include - enhanced strength, speed, durability, agility, reflexes, stamina, healing, mental processing, longevity and his senses. All of it helps Steve to react quicker and take in more around him, which makes him a brilliant tactician. The durability factor allows him to walk off things that would kill others and he can keep battling for much longer as well. He sees things that others may not and it comes as a double edged sword because it means he cannot forget things as easily. Because of his enhanced immune system, Steve cannot acquire illnesses but he also can not get drunk.

He is very skillfully trained in melee combat, can operate most types of transportation, has acrobatic skills and can wield most weapon forms.

Also, skilled with Armed Forces tactics - swimming, survival tactics, hunting, mountaineering, map making & reading, decoding ciphers and secret codes, woodworking, demolition, escape arts, interrogation, explosives. He just might not be the sneakiest around and his spy-like skills leave a lot to be desired.

strengths:

Loyal: More than anything else, Steve retains his faith in people and for the most part they haven't let him down. When someone actually manages to weasel around his walls and matters to him, Steve will go to the ends of the world for them. He is fiercely loyal and it takes a lot to shake his dedication to others and even to a cause when he sets his mind to it.

Determined: It doesn't matter how many times you knock him down, Steve will find a way to stand right back up and keep going until things are done. He isn't one to easily back down and is far more resourceful than it might appear at first. He has a lot of passion and his compassion stems from growing up with so much disdain because of his appearance and so many health issues.

Courageous: It takes a lot to shake Steve's resolve and he will be there to lend a hand and protect others who need it. Whether he knows them or not doesn't really matter and Steve will go to bat for anyone who needs someone to help them out. He doesn't really see himself as a hero and even before the serum, Steve was the one trying to do everything he could to help others. He wanted to enlist in the war and during training, he threw himself onto a grenade, believing it would save others. Just one of many examples of the lengths Steve goes to.

weaknesses:

Stubborn: When Steve sets his mind onto something, hardly anything will change it or deter him in any way. The 'I can do this all day' attitude can be grating at best and downright dangerous at worse because if Steve thinks he is right, he doesn't really compromise too easily. He can be fairly righteous and will defy even authority if he feels he has to. This has earned him the label as a vigilante at times but Steve will always do what he feels he needs to, even if it means going against certain things in the process.

Idealism: Steve Rogers is a product of his era and this constantly puts him at odds with the current time period he finds himself in. He holds to his old fashioned ideals and believes strongly in the principles founding the United States in the first place - justice, freedom and truth. It keeps him distant from others and more than a little lonely because few can share in his 'life experiences'.

Impulsive: Not often does Steve look before he leaps even before the serum he would speak up without a second thought about the consequences. He often believes he can handle anything and tries to go at things alone a lot of the time. It isn't too often Steve tries to wait for anyone else and he will always put himself into harms way first, protecting those around him from the greater darkness.

job skills (optional): Steve will want to help out where he is needed.
housing (optional): Communal.

name: Buffy Summers
canon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
canon point: A few weeks post-series finale
age: 22

(canon) background: Wiki & Wikia

abilities:
- As a Slayer, Buffy has supernatural speed, strength, agility, and durability. She also has accelerated healing, heightened awareness of surroundings, and a "spidey-sense" for detecting supernatural creatures, but especially vampires. And there's the occasional (incomprehensible) prophetic dream and magical access to the collective memories of the Slayers. Slayers also have a natural affinity for weapons of all types; Buffy can pick up any weapon and learn how to use it almost instantly. None of this means that Buffy is invincible - she's died three times (drowning, mystical energy electrocution, gunshot), it just doesn't stick very well when her friends are involved.
- On the normal girl side of things, Buffy is a pretty good cook and a good student in the right academic environment (ie, college vs high school). Driving is not a lauded part of her skill set.

strengths:
- Buffy will do what has to be done, regardless of whether it's the popular decision. She's faced her own death to save the world, particularly with the Master and the portal opened by Glory. She killed her lover in order to stop a world-ending demon from being unleashed. She has been willing to take down friends in order to stop them from hurting others, she's made hard calls when leading others, all of which led to people she trusted turning against her.
- She empathizes strongly with others, especially those considered outcasts by society. Growing up, she was a Popular Girl, but becoming the Slayer meant being socially isolated by others, especially when her actions were considered weird. This is why she connected so well with Xander and Willow, and why she has fought back against bullies and the Popular Girls who put down others. She understands what it is to be on the outside and she wants better than that for others.
- She’s a leader, and she’s usually pretty good at it. As the Slayer, others look to her to take charge and when she does so without hesitation, they listen. It’s taken time, but she’s also learned how to listen to others and rely on them; no longer does she take on everything herself, but rather delegates where needed and draws on the strengths of those around her.

weaknesses:
- Little thought is given to her own safety when innocents are in danger. Threaten her friends, children, a random person on the street, and she'll throw herself into all sorts of dangerous situations to get people home safe. This stems from her Duty as the Slayer, because she has the strength and ability to do what others can't, and so she has a responsibility to prevent others from coming to harm whenever possible. Since she can take pain and suffering and walk away from it, others shouldn't have to.
- Buffy can be prideful and it colors her interactions with others. Since she was called, she has been repeatedly told the story of being the Chosen One, the one girl in all the world with the strength and skill to hunt vampires and keep darkness at bay. Even when a second slayer is called, Buffy's still The Slayer, the one who is actively averting apocalypses and keeping the Hellmouth from being opened. All of that power and responsibility would go to anyone's head, and it's resulted in Buffy legitimately thinking she's better than everyone else. She admits as much in her impromptu therapy session with vampire Holden -- "They don't know. They haven't been through what I've been through. They're not the slayer. I am. Sometimes I feel- this is awful- I feel like I'm better than them. Superior."
- She doesn't take well to criticism or doubt of her abilities and decisions. She knows that she's not perfect, but that's a weakness that she can't let others see - she has to be the strong Slayer with all the right answers because it's what people expect of her and what she expects of herself. Any doubt of this heroic image is usually met with hostility or goes unacknowledged.

job skills: guidance counseling experience, fast food work, teaching girls self-defense (note: she would very begrudgingly mention her time in fast food and not seem at all happy about it)
housing: Buffy would prefer shared or private; player has no preference

character information
name: Bill Potts
canon: Doctor Who
canon point: in between S10E07, "The Pyramid at the End of the World" and S10E08, "The Lie of the Land"
age: approximately 26

(canon) background: Wiki link
(original) world: n/a

abilities: Bill is a normal human who possesses no abnormal abilities.

strengths:
  • Inquisitive - Bill is intelligent. She actively seeks out knowledge, reading books on the Ninth Legion, attending university lectures even though she's not enrolled as a student. That is how she initally met the Doctor, and he saw in her potential for a brilliant mind. Bill makes logical leaps and conclusions in a way that most people don't, through her own unique experience and perspective.

  • Genre-Savvy - Bill is a fan of popular science fiction, and being as she exists in a universe with time travel and aliens, that knowledge comes into play. She has a suspension of disbelief that allows her to accept the unbelievable things she witnesses on her travels with the Doctor, and her knowledge of sci-fi tropes has saved her more than once. She uses the lessons she's learned from books and movies to navigate the crazy worlds the TARDIS brings her to.

  • Self-Aware - Bill knows who she is-- a gay black woman who grew up in the foster care system-- and doesn't let anyone control her or try to put her down. She is confident in herself and unafraid to take charge when it comes to leading a group or standing up for marginalized people. She is calm, collected, and straightforward when correcting people's false assumptions. For example, when a Roman legionnaire starts flirting with her, she politely explains that she's only into women. (The legionnaire, being bisexual, thinks her preferences are quaint, but accepts them nonetheless.)

weaknesses:
  • Impulsive - Bill doesn't hesitate. She dives right into new challenges, and this is sometimes to her detriment. She sometimes makes decisions because they're the easiest thing to do at the time, without thinking through whether they're really the right thing to do. This is evidenced by Bill succumbing to peer pressure and signing the tenant's agreement even though there was definitely something off about it, and by her asking the Monks for help fixing the Doctor's sight, in exchange for control over the entire planet and the whole human race.

  • Competitive - Bill has to be right. Especially in regards to pop culture or historical trivia. Never mind that the Doctor is two thousand years old and has actually lived in Roman occupied England, Bill read a book on the Ninth Legion and therefore considers herself the preeminent expert on the subject. She was so adamant that she knew what happened to the Ninth Legion and the Doctor didn't, that she walked straight into harm's way in her search to prove her point.

  • Doubtful - Bill, though aware of herself and unwilling to bend to discrimination, is not the pinnacle of self-confidence one hundred percent of the time. She has doubts and fears, largely concerning the absence of her mother in her life. In times of stress, Bill retreats into her own mind and has made up conversations with an imagined idea of her mother. She also is self-conscious about her appearance, thinking she's not as beautiful as the girls she gets crushes on, that her face shows emotion too easily. She does, in fact, feel things very deeply, be it joy, or grief, or fear, and her feelings are displayed in her outward expression, whether she likes it or not.

character information
name: Tony Stark
canon: MCU
canon point: Post-Civil War
age: 46

(canon) background: Wiki

abilities:

Genius Level Intellect - Tony was building circuit boards at age 4, graduated from MIT at 17, and is considered one of the smartest people in the world.
Master Engineer - Give him a few scraps of metal in a cave or a collection of supplies from a hardware store and he can build almost anything. He's also an expert programmer who can build AI's from scratch, an inventor and a good enough hacker to have cracked the Pentagon while in high school.
Master Scientist - Taught himself a new subject overnight, synthesized an undiscovered element and came up with modifications for the Extremis formula while drunk at a party.
Expert Businessman - After becoming CEO of Stark Industries at 21, Tony grew the company to become the premiere weapons supplier for the US Military before the events Afghanistan switched his priorities to becoming the big name in green energy.
Expert Tactician - Particularly good at split-second and on the fly decisions, though he's also proven that he can be a skilled leader when needed.
Martial Artist - He's trained in unarmed combat. While he'll never be able to go up against serious fighters out of the armor, he can hold his own in a fight. In the armor, he can go toe-to-toe with just about anyone.
Multilingual - English, Spanish, Italian, Dari and at least conversational French.

strengths:

Intelligence - Tony is one of the minds of his generation. The technology he develops is years beyond any of his peers', and even aside from his engineering brilliance, he's capable of teaching himself new disciplines overnight. He's also a quick and creative thinker, often making intuitive leaps and surprising accurate predictions.

Generosity - Honestly, he just likes giving people things. He may be terrible with gifts, but people he likes can be offered anything from food to living spaces to brand-new technology. It doesn't seem to occur to him that it might be a big deal and he doesn't expect gratitude. He just wants to make sure the people around him have everything they need.

Drive - Whether it's a short term project or a long term goal, if Tony has decided something is important to him, he'll laser-focus on it and refuse to let anything stop him. When it comes to his work, it means that he'll go on engineering binges and forget to eat or sleep. For more expansive things, like changing the world, he'll do whatever it takes.

weaknesses:

Arrogance - Spending most of his life as the smartest person in the room has not given him much patience for listening to other opinions. Tony often convinced that he knows better than everyone else and won't hesitate to do whatever he thinks is right despite what anyone says.

Artifice - Tony likes to make a big show out of being aloof and uncaring. It's half public persona and half defense mechanism from growing up pretty much entirely in the public eye, and sometimes it almost seems like he's convinced himself he doesn't care too. It most often manifests as keeping people distant and seemingly refusing to take anything seriously.

Self-hated - No one hates Tony Stark more than Tony Stark does. There's always been a core in him of trying to escape who he is, and years of guilt over the damage his inventions have done, survivor's guilt of having lived when better men have died and a whole pile of PTSD have not helped. He desperately wants to make things better for everyone, but the fact that it goes badly wrong so often -- Ultron and the Sokovia Accords in particular -- just keep weighing him down farther.

job skills (optional): Engineering/mechanical/programming genius. He's also got 20 years or so of experience in running a business, but he's much happier building and fixing things.
housing (optional): No preference

canon: The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunter Chronicles
canon point: A few months after the epilogue in City of Heavenly Fire
age: 18

(canon) background: Alec's Wiki Entry
(original) world: N/A

The Pines CRAU

A few months after Alec moved in with Magnus Bane, he woke up in a hospital in Wayward Pines. He had no memory of how he got there or of the ‘accident’ that resulted in him needing medical care. He was told that he had amnesia and that his memories would return in a few weeks. The little he remembered involved his loved ones, being a Shadowhunter, and being romantically involved with someone named Magnus.

When he left the hospital, he ran into Magnus when they were both going to the Sheriff's station to get their things. They both had an accident at the same time and had similar memories of being romantically involved. Both remembered weddings and were wearing rings so they assumed that they were married. Neither one had the other’s name so this led them to believe that they were newlyweds.

Wayward Pines has rules against discussing the past so neither one of them realized they were from different worlds even after their real memories returned. Complicating the situation was a procedure that was performed on them that gave them false memories of the town. Alec’s false memories made him believe that after numerous fights with his parents over dating Magnus, the two of them eloped. They road tripped across America and stopped in Wayward Pines. Everyone was so nice to them that they decided to stay in town and live normal lives as ‘Mundanes’ (those who aren’t connected to the supernatural).

In town, Alec ran a record store and was a happy newlywed. Eventually his sister arrived in town. Because Izzy had amnesia and they could not discuss the past, they assumed that she left New York because of conflicts with their parents and Izzy wanting to be with her brother. They were starting to notice differences between their memories but never realized they were from different realities.

The three of them lived happily as Mundanes until monsters attacked the town. The three of them fought to protect the town until the monsters could be driven away or killed.

Right before he would arrive in game Alec learned that he was pulled from another reality by some unknown force and ended up in town. A horrible mutagen contaminated the world of Wayward Pines and the town was part of an attempt to save humanity from that threat. Alec was told that if he returned to his own world, there was a risk that he could bring the mutagen with him. Alec assumes that he will never be able to return to his reality and has not realized that he was from a different world than either Izzy or Magnus.

abilities:

Physiology. Alec is part human/part angel. This gives him enhanced strength, speed, agility, stamina, and coordination. These abilities are further improved through training and the use of angelic runes. The runes also protect him from demonic influences and possession.

The Sight. Shadowhunters are able to see what most people would think of as the supernatural. They can also see through magical illusions and glamours.

Angelic Artifacts and Runes. Shadowhunters so they are able to use items that have angelic power and also use angelic runes. Their weapons, witchlights, and steles can only be used by Nephilim or those with a connection to Angels. Runes are symbols that are burned into the skin that augment certain abilities in Shadowhunters. Permanent runes are black on the skin and never fade. Temporary runes last for a finite time and will fade once they have been ‘burned up’.

Fighting. Alec was trained almost from birth to fight demons. His training included hand-to-hand combat and the use of a variety of weapons. His greatest strength is the bow; he is one of the greatest archers among the Nephilim.

Parabatai. During his training, he became soul bound to his best friend, Jace. This bond improves a Shadowhunter’s fighting ability and any runes drawn by parabatai are stronger than those drawn by other Shadowhunters. They are synchronized in battle, fighting as two halves of a whole. At times, they can feel each other’s emotions and draw strength from each other.

strengths:

Level-headed. Alec is the voice of reason to a group of warriors who rush heedlessly into danger. He attempts to calm others before they act so that they don’t get hurt. Even when he’s stressed and afraid of losing the people he loves he tries to think clearly, almost seeming cold to those around him.

Observant. He thinks through problems, considering details and suggesting solutions that are based on his observations.

Caring. Love has motivated Alec throughout most of his life. He is the type of person who rarely does things for himself, focusing instead on the people who are important to him. He loves deeply, wanting what is best for those around him and to protect others from the evils of the world.

Loyal. When someone earns his trust, Alec extremely loyal to them. He follows his siblings into battle without hesitation other than questioning their impulsive tactics. He will do almost anything for the people he loves, including literally going to hell to rescue the people he cares about.

Morally Courageous Once Alec decides on a course of action that is morally or emotionally right, he will follow through no matter the consequences. He repeatedly ignored orders that were based on misinformation and fear so that he could save lives and attempt to prevent the wars Valentine and Sebastian were instigating. He defies the antiquated conventions of his society to be happy with the person he loves, accepting that he will be ostracized and lose the respect of many of the Shadowhunters.

weaknesses:

Self-Doubt. One of Alec’s main weaknesses is seeing himself as ‘trivial’ or believing that he doesn’t matter to others. After spending a lifetime of being ignored by his parents and seen as inferior, he is prone to bouts of low self-esteem. He fears that the people he loves both platonically and romantically will become bored with him and will eventually desert him in favor of someone more interesting.

Introverted. Alec is someone who does not always have the necessary social skills. For years he lived in isolation with his siblings and tried not to draw attention to himself so no one would learn that he was gay. This makes him socially awkward at times. He can be tactless and blunt but does not use those traits to harm others. Many times he doesn’t realize his words can be taken as hurtful.

Prejudice. The Lightwood children were raised in isolation and taught that Nephilim were better than other beings. Although Alec doesn’t hate Downworlders or Mundanes, he can be elitist. He can view himself as better than others, but he is learning to see past the ingrained superiority of his culture. It is obvious at times that he struggles to be more open-minded, but he is trying to become a better person.

job skills (optional):
• Alec has skills as a soldier but his experience with weapons does not include firearms, but he learns quickly.
• He’s trained others in self-defense.
• As part of his CRAU he ran a record store in the town of Wayward Pines.

housing (optional): If his family is there, shared with them. If not, no preference.

Max Lightwood | Shadowhunter Chronicles | Reserved(?)

player information
name: Riley
age: Over 30
contact: unwrittengold on plurk

character information
name: Max Lightwood
canon: Shadowhunter Chronicles
canon point: Right at his death
age: 9

(canon) background: Max Lightwood

abilities: As someone with angel blood, Max has above average strength, agility, stamina, and reflexes, but he hasn't had any combat training so far, so he's not a fighter like other Shadowhunters by any means yet. Being a Shadowhunter also gives him the ability to see through magical illusions. While he does have enhanced abilities above a regular human, he's still only 9 years old so his abilities aren't what they will be when he's older and trained. While he'd probably be able to fight off a regular adult human of average strength if someone tried to kidnap him, he could still be fairly easily grabbed and carried off before he'd have a chance to fight back and get free.

strengths: Max's greatest strength is that he is brave. He may be nine and not have any combat training as a Shadowhunter yet, but he still hates being left in the dark about things. He wants to know what's going on, even if it might be something scary. He's not the kind of person who wants to stay hidden safely away while stuff is going down either. In a scene where his brother tries to get him to safety after a demon attack, he's shown to be struggling to get down instead of letting himself be carried off and wanting to see what's going on. When his siblings are going off to a place that's known to be creepy, he demands to go with them and has to be locked up to prevent him from following. He's ready to do what his family does and very much wants to start training to be an official Shadowhunter like the rest of them.

For being a kid, he's also a mostly serious person, most likely due to his family fighting demons all the time. He's never seen joking or teasing someone about something. He's been described as having a kind of air about him that makes him seem older than he is. When dangerous situations crop up, he isn't shown outwardly panicking. For the most part, he talks to people respectfully.

He has a good heart and just wants to be helpful to others. He's eager to do anything he can to help his family, such as when he leaps to offer to go get his sister's phone she's left somewhere else, saying he won't get in trouble if he gets caught sneaking around because he's so young. Anyway he can help, he wants to, even if he's not always allowed to.

weaknesses: Max doesn't always listen, even when it's for his own good. The first time he ever shows up, his mother told him to stay in his room and when she reminds him of this after he doesn't, he says completely straight faced that he doesn't remember her saying that. He desperately wants to help even if helping would most likely get him in trouble since he doesn't have any combat training. While he does have more maturity than someone else his age, he is still a kid. He doesn't like it when people take his stuff or call him a kid. If he's cross with someone, he'll be sure to tell them or give them the cold shoulder. He can be stubborn about things. He gets very frustrated when people dismiss him as being too young to know what's going. There's a scene where he tries to tell his sister he saw someone sneaking around outside but she dismisses it as him just seeing things, making him feel frustrated she's not taking him seriously.

job skills (optional): N/A
housing (optional): I'd like him to be placed with his brother Alec if possible!

network username: m.lightwood

network sample: Dialogue sample

prose/action sample: Max plopped down on his bed with a bounce, looking around his room with a little smile. It was good to be home after all that traveling, even if he'd wished he could have stayed in Alicante with his father a bit longer. The city was amazing and wasn't anything like New York - at least not like the little of New York that he had seen. One day he'd be old enough and trained enough he could go out into the city without having to have someone watching him 24/7 and could go wherever he wanted instead of having to stay cooped up safely in the Institute just about all the time.

He could tell his mom hadn't been very happy about something as they'd traveled back home. It was probably because she'd been told Jace had fought and killed a Greater Demon. He thought it was awesome and he couldn't wait to ask Jace about it. He was excited to see all of his siblings, wanting to tell them all about the things he'd seen in Alicante, like the armory and the places they made seraph blades. He'd been a bit disappointed when they'd gotten back and his siblings weren't there.

His mom had told him to go stay in his room and unpack his suitcase and Max frowned down at it now; unpacking didn't sound fun at all when he was bursting to go talk to his siblings. He hoped they got back soon. Unzipping the suitcase, he opened it up and picked up the new manga book he'd gotten at the airport, flipping through it again. He thought the pictures looked cool but he didn't think he was reading it right since the plot wasn't making any sense when he read it like a regular book. Setting the book down carefully, he flipped the suitcase over to dump the rest of its contents out on the bed.

Just then, he thought he heard the sound of the elevator. Excitement filled him and he hoped that meant his siblings were back. Quickly scooping up all the clothes that had been in his suitcase, he dumped them in the laundry hamper, regardless of if they were all dirty or not. The rest of the things he left lying on the bed for now. He could put them away later, and that counted as unpacking his suitcase, right? There was nothing in it anymore.

Satisfied that he could say he had unpacked his suitcase if his mother asked him what he was doing out of his room, he raced out the door to go find his siblings, eager to tell them all about the things he'd seen and ask them if anything cool had happened here while he'd been away. He definitely wanted to hear more about the Greater Demon Jace had taken down. His brother was so cool.

character information
name: Bellamy Blake
canon: The 100
canon point: Season 4 episode 4, after learning about Octavia's "death".
age: 23

(canon) background: Here, plus season 4 and individual episode summaries linked here.
(original) world: n/a

abilities:
On the Ark, Bellamy was training to be a guard, and this continued on the ground. He's comfortable with hand-to-hand combat as well as the use of firearms, and he's a good shot, too. He's also good at thinking strategically and thinking on his feet, as well as managing through tough situations. He doesn't have any superhuman abilities, but he's strong and pretty hardy! Bellamy also has pretty significant knowledge of history and classical mythology. He's a secret nerd.

strengths:
Bellamy was essentially born and raised in a post-apocalyptic hellscape. On the Ark, this meant everything was strictly rationed and monitored, and it means Bellamy is used to getting by on scraps and working through near constant hunger. He’s resourceful, and he’s good at working his way through problems in an unconventional fashion. This also makes him stubbornly determined. It’s nearly impossible for him to give up, even if the odds seem insurmountable and everyone is telling him it’s hopeless.

Much of this comes from his strong sense of compassion—if you’re on Bellamy’s side or he considers you part of his circle, he’ll do anything for you. He’s a people person, good at reading others and understanding their strengths and what makes them tick, which makes him great at inspiring people when they’re struggling and at connecting with people on a personal level.

While most people would be hard pressed to call him friendly or cheery, he demonstrates his affection for people in very obvious ways. This, along with his ability to make hard choices that no one else is willing to and his intense need to get things done makes him a very good leader. Clarke says that people are willing to fight and die for him, and she’s right. People tend to trust Bellamy, partially from his pure refusal to leave any of “his people” behind, and partially because he’s willing to put his life on the line to save them. This is an intense protectiveness born from the fact that the vast majority of his life was spent keeping his sister and mother safe from the guards and the higher ups on the Ark, and it’s something he’s pretty much incapable of switching off.

weaknesses:
The flip side of Bellamy’s compassion is that he can be overemotional. He tends to think with his heart, not with his head, and while he’s good at planning, waiting too long when lives are on the line drives him nuts, and he’s far more likely to forge into a dangerous situation to help than to sit around on the hope that things will get safer.

Part of this is because Bellamy has a truckload of guilt, starting with the execution of his mother and piling on all of the mistakes and people he couldn’t save on the ground. Bellamy thinks that once people are under his wing, he needs to protect them no matter what, and he tends to base his self-worth on how successful that is. As you can imagine, he also has a hell of a lot of anger issues, much of these drawing from the clear classism and terrible authority figures on the Ark. He doesn’t trust those in charge easily, and in fact, he has trouble trusting in general. Bellamy tends to divide the world into “his people” and “everyone else”. On the Ark, his mother and sister were the only one he could really trust, and while this circle has expanded and continues to, that us vs them mentality is still a part of him he can’t quite shake.

All of this ends up wrapped up in the fact that he has trouble forgiving the people who wrong him, or worse, the people who wrong or hurt his people. He can be vindictive, and he can make poor, impulsive decisions based off of his guilt, anger and grief.

job skills (optional): Mostly combat training since he was a guard back home. He has pretty significant leadership skills and would mention his knowledge of history if it seems relevant in the orientation.
housing (optional): Anywhere is fine!

character information
name: Alec Brennan
canon: Original
canon point: Modern day
age: 58, but physically he appears to be late 20s/early 30s

(original) world: Alec's world is little different from our own, aside from the presence of magic and the supernatural. The magical community at large takes care to stay under the radar and out of the public eye. For the most part, everyone keeps to their own- wizards have their own, self-contained society; psychics, lycanthropes, etc, etc, have their own, self-contained society, and so on and so forth.

Wizards in this world make use of a special runic alphabet to cast spells. This alphabet is extremely extensive, and it is common practice for wizards to choose a Specialization, a set of runes that serve a specific function, and devote their skill and studies to that. As such, wizards are given classifications based on their area of study; Mender, Destroyer, Illusionist, Enhancer, Defender, etc, etc. Wizards who pick and choose from Specializations without focusing on a single one are called Jacks, as in "Jack of all trades, master of none". This is highly frowned upon, thanks in no small part to the massive class divide between older "upperclass" wizarding families who hold their legacy above all else, and... literally everyone else. Jacks are considered little more than thugs or muscle for hire. A wizard's power is also solely passed down through the males of the family, from father to son. Girls born to a wizarding father usually possess a singular magic Talent, and cannot use the runes to do magic, as far as anyone is aware.

The product of a one night stand, Alec is the son of Thomas Brennan, a former wizarding mercenary, and Sabrina Cordell, a regular human and the daughter of one of Chicago's many crime families, with heavy ties in the drug trade. After he was born, Alec’s mother vanished from his life, leaving him with his dad, who had done his best to straighten out his act in order to provide for his son. He left his mercenary group and studied in earnest to become a Mender, a wizard whose focus is repairing broken objects. They lived and worked in a tiny mechanic shop, scraping to get by, very much on the bottom of the food chain in every way. Alec was always resentful of his absentee mother, who had more than enough money to easily provide for them both, but instead chose to act as though they didn’t exist.

It was probably Alec’s bitterness an unhappiness that prompted Thomas to make a misguided attempt to blackmail Sabrina over the existence of Alec. Thomas wound up dead, and Alec would have very nearly followed suit if not for the fact that he was faster on the draw with his magic than his would-be assailant was with his gun.

Not long after that, Alec fell in with his dad’s old merc group, and they taught him the tools of the trade. Where before, Alec was an Elementialist, a wizard whose focus lies in wielding the elements, he learned enough to be classified as a Jack. While his strengths still very much lie in Elemental magic, he learned spells to pick locks and to make himself invisible and to enhance his natural strength and speed. As technology began to evolve, he shifted his studies there, leaving behind his mercenary roots in order to become a hacker, an information dealer, and a man very adept in the art of manipulation.

With his newfound skills as an information broker and saboteur, he tracked down his mother, and effectively ruined her life by exposing her and her family’s misdeeds, destroying her reputation and her marriage to a well-to-do businessman. But he didn’t stop there. Alec keeps mostly to the shadows, working as an embittered sort of Robin Hood, and making a name for himself by pulling power and influence out from underneath those who had it, for the benefit of those who did not. He has no preference for whether or not his clients or victims are human or wizard. A rich asshole is a rich asshole, and he loves taking them down a peg or two or seven. Now and again, he’ll join forces with his old merc team, or they with him, but Alec is much more comfortable behind a monitor than he is out in the field, slinging magic around.

abilities: As stated above, the wizards in Alec’s world cast spells using runic characters that are written into the air. Every wizard’s magic is a different color, though that doesn’t have any bearing on what kind of magic they can use or what kind of person they are. Alec’s magic is a grey-ish purple color, kind of dull and stormy and not very pretty.

Alec himself is highly skilled in the use of Elemental spells, being able to create and wield the elements of water, air, ice, fire, and lightning. Lightning is by far his specialty, which extends to him being able to manipulate and draw power from electricity as well.

The other schools of magic he borrows from are: Animation, the ability to manipulate inanimate objects, though his skills are limited to moving things in simple ways and picking locks. Destruction, which is exactly as it sounds, and Alec’s repertoire contains a few hard-hitting and fast concussive spells. Illusion, which allows Alec the ability to make himself or others nearly invisible (his camouflage spell is closer to transparency than actual invisibility, and his presence leaves a slight distortion in the air, not unlike heat rising), and to cast minor illusions to give things a different appearance.

Most of Alec’s spell utility comes in the form of tattoos. When a wizard wants to skip the casting process, they can get spells tattooed right on their skin and magically hotwired to their brain, able to be activated with a mere thought. These spells are mostly defensive in nature, though any spell could reasonably be turned into a tattoo for easy use.

Being trained by mercenaries and being a meticulous planner means Alec has a lot of these. Alec’s tattoos are all solid black bands on his arms, as he had the spellwork covered in black ink so another wizard looking at him would not be able to tell what they do. He has twelve in all (six per arm), starting with one on each wrist, and spaced out from there all the way up to his shoulders. They are each explained in more detail here.

Outside of magic, Alec is very technologically savvy. Whether it’s breaking into a bank account or a Snapchat account, he can usually manage it with ease. He has a good sense of what will be useful to him and what is just meaningless fluff, and how best to take what he has learned about a person and set about ruining them with it. Being a wizard with an extended lifespan means he’s had a lot of time to learn and evolve with the technology.

Obviously, the tech in the city will be mostly alien to him, and he'll need to take the time to learn. He won't go delving into people's private files just for kicks, and will only do so with good reason, and only after I have worked things out on an OOC level.

strengths:
well-prepared:
Alec is a planner to an almost ridiculous degree. He is sure to think of every available outcome of a given situation in order to better manipulate it to reach an outcome that is favorable to him. Even his mundane social interactions are planned, in a sense, because he has an image he is consciously trying to put forth.

adaptable:
Alec’s penchant for planning things down to the minute detail by no means makes him inflexible. His time spent training with his dad’s old band of wizarding mercenaries taught him a lot about working in the moment, rather than making the moment work for him. While he would prefer things to go his way, he knows that sometimes they just won’t. In fact, thinking two steps ahead usually helps him when he has to act on the fly.

intelligent:
Many older wizards don’t bother with technology if they don’t have to, content to rely on their magic and the magic of their peers. It was different for Alec, whose father decided to use his magic to work with cars. He grew up around the combination of magic and tech, and when he realized the best way to get back at his mother would be to go for her reputation, he dove right into learning everything he could. He’s damn good with computers.

weaknesses:
abrasive:
He harbors a lot of self-loathing over the way his selfishness got his father killed. As such, he deliberately tries not to get close to people. The image that Alec very carefully tailors his every interaction to put forth is that of… well, a giant jerk. He’s scathing and sarcastic and cocky on purpose. He wants people to know he’s good at what he does, not be friends with him.

selfish:
Alec is selfish in a different way now than when he was an unhappy teenager harping on his single father for the way they had to scrape to survive. As far as Alec is concerned, the less people know about him, the easier it is for him to do his job. He keeps his own secrets, details about himself and his abilities, to himself and will only offer minimal information if it’s absolutely needed. This doesn’t make him a great team player, and while he will work with others, he doesn’t always work well with them.

ruthless:
The way Alec sees his work is very cut and dry: Someone with no power is being taken advantage of by someone with power, whether that power comes in the form of money or status or family ties doesn't matter. He doesn’t care whose life he’s destroying or what skeletons he has to drag out of the closet to do it. He literally ruins lives for a living, and that’s just something he’s learned to accept. The distant, unfriendly persona masks just as much bitter anger as it does self-hatred.

job skills (optional): Obviously, Alec has skill with computers. He also has the private habit of cooking, which he does to unwind. He would volunteer the former, but not the latter. I’m cool with him landing a job that deals with either of these.
housing (optional): I'm good with whatever!

i can’t be the only one here who builds their own computers, right? anybody know any places for parts?

i would also take a primer on whatever the hell tech is commonplace around here. someone tell me if other-dimension mac is better than other-dimension pc. and don't tell me you don't have an opinion. everyone has an opinion. it's a debate that's old as fucking time.

prose/action sample:
[ Alec doesn’t do the whole “helping out of the goodness of his heart” thing, but ending up in an entirely new place has changed things up for him a bit. Back home, he was rather comfortable in his network of contacts, having built it up over the course of a few decades. Here, however, he has a totally blank slate to work with, and he needs to rectify that if he hopes to be halfway effective at what he does best.

So, when the city has a big ol’ killer plant problem, Alec supposes it’s a good place to start. If nothing else, it will certainly tell him who his more altruistic neighbors are.

He may be more comfortable behind a monitor, poking around in other people’s business and selling their secrets, but Alec is still a wizard, and one with mercenary training to boot. He can handle a few overgrown weeds.

When he arrives at the section of the wall currently being overgrown, it doesn't take him long to spot someone going toe to toe with a mass of crazed vines. Even in a completely different dimension, where the rules about keeping magic a secret don't apply, Alec isn't one to flaunt his abilities out in the open. He relies on secrecy and the element of surprise far too much for that. So he waits until their back is turned before raising a hand, index and middle fingers extended together, and etches out a rune in the air with stormy purple light. A bolt of fire lances from the mark in the second before the rune disappears, flying past the head of Alec's unwitting ally, and setting the coiling tendrils ablaze.

Turning around will reveal Alec, looking for all the world like he did not just conjure fire out of nothing to throw at carnivorous plant life. He blinks a couple of times, glances over his shoulder and back. ]

character information
name: Lup Taaco
canon: The Adventure Zone
canon point: Episode 65, before turning into a lich with Barry.
age: ~200 (It's complicated)

(canon) background: Wiki + My Stolen Century Notes + TAZ Transcripts

abilities:

Magic

Lup is a wizard of currently unknown level (at least 5th, seeing she can cast Fireball, which is a 3rd level spell you only get at level 5.) She's mentioned to 'grow furiously in arcane power' during the Stolen Century Arc, and considering the near century she's had to cultivate magic, she should be pretty high level by now. It would be easiest to play her as the same 'level' as Taako in the game.

However, wizards in D&D cannot cast spells forever, they have a specific amount of spells they can cast every day, aside from minor spells known as cantrips (which are unlimited).

Lup's specialty is the school of evocation, which is focused on spells that manipulate energy or tap unseen sources of power in order to produce a desired end. In effect, they created something out of nothing. Many of these spells produce spectacular effects, and evocation spells can deal large amounts of damage.

Essentially, she really likes to explode shit.

Evocation Wizard Spells

Elf

Elves in D&D 5E (and thus TAZ) do not need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. It gives the same benefits as sleeping 8 hours. Due to this they cannot be magically put to sleep, either.

They're also very resistant to spells that charm a person, and they have darkvision, meaning they can see in the dark about up to 60 feet (but in black-and-white).

Talents

Lup and her brother were magical researchers while on the Starblaster ship, meaning she has talents in the foundations of the arcane and magical information, and did graduate from an unnamed magic academy at the top of her class with Taako.

She studied the violin for a year in one cycle and put on a really stunning performance at the end of it - so she must have an innate talent for music since a year of violin should still make you want to shave your eardrums off.

strengths:

Moral Compass

Although Lup enjoys hustling people, stealing, killing to survive and honestly everything a little bit illegal, she still has a great respect for life. She went against all her friends wanting to destroy a world - and even the knowledge that it would only make their enemy stronger if they didn't, she would not budge.

In addition to this she's also the nicer of the Taaco twins and is more friendly and outgoing, having an easier time to make friends than her brother.

Protector

Growing up all alone with Taako, Lup was always the protector, the person to fight and keep them safe. This continues into her adulthood and now extends to her friends as well. She's willing to risk her life to protect her found family to the point where she's about to rip her soul out of her body and become undead.

Fiery

Her temper isn't all that's fiery; Lup is in general a very energetic and wild person who enjoys fun and blowing up stuff for the hell of it. She's the person who uses magic missile to shoot down driftwood tossed at her for shits and giggles, and unloads tommy guns into the air just for sheer awesomeness - plus that time she absolutely obliterated a whole fantasy DMV as part of her best day ever.

weaknesses:

Snappy

Lup is not exactly the most polite person. She swears, she does ludicrous things for fun, and she's happy to take advantage of idiots. This seems to have been lessened a bit since she got on the Starblaster, but it doesn't mean she still won't call you a fucking idiot to your face without shame.

Emotional Issues

How do you use feelings? Lup is in no way as damaged as her brother, being from an earlier time than him and never having to be all alone, but they both grew up alone and deal badly with emotions. Serious moments are difficult in general for her, so if it isn't with her brother, she prefers to joke things away to lessen the tension - even when the situation is very serious.

A Stolen Century

Lup as spent the last 82 years in a Groundhog Day Year situation, running from an enemy that swallows whole worlds, appearing in different realities and dying so, so many times. This leaves scars on a person - she's watched whole worlds being destroyed, seen her friends die horribly, died horribly herself, only to reawaken alive and restored on their ship after a year has passed.

She's stressed, she's tired, she's paranoid and she will always, always look to the skies.

skills (optional): Cooking (though not quite as flashily as her brother), mayhem, languages, triangulating, magical research.
housing (optional): Most likely with Taako because hey garbage twins.

Regene Regetta | Gundam 00 | Reserved

[personal profile] fratropathic 2017-07-02 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
player information
name: maddie
age: 35
contact: [plurk.com profile] maddiecham or PM
other characters: none

character information
name: Regene Regetta
canon: Gundam 00
canon point: S2E9 post-party
age: Mentally and functionally an adult, appearance suggests late teens, actual time since activation unknown (definitely under ten years)

(canon) background: His entry on the Gundam Wiki, which goes quite far to avoid accidental spoilers about his true motivations, so much that the initial personality breakdown isn’t strictly accurate to the full scope of his role and the plot synopsis only reveals his motivations as they were revealed to the audience. Anything that appears contradictory most likely stems from that framework for his entry.

abilities: Regene is an Innovade, a humanoid bioterminal for the quantum supercomputer Veda. Innovades have been modified from their base DNA patterns to survive the harshness of space, which has the side benefit of stalling their aging almost completely, and to interface directly with Veda and other Innovades (as well as those who rise to Innovator status by evolution, and other genetically manipulated humans like Super Soldiers) using quantum brainwaves. As an information-gathering type, Regene does not have any marked physical abilities beyond those of a human, but he can control all devices equipped with GN Drives – this ability appears to be unique to the 0988 DNA type he shares with Tieria Erde, as they are the only two Innovades shown to have this override capability.

strengths: As compared to the other Innovades in Ribbons Almark’s group, the Innovators, Regene shows a marked capacity for critical thought: like his 0988 twin, he can see beyond the position he’s been given clearly enough to ask larger questions and doubt the motivations of those above him in position. He’s also observant enough to know which questions to ask and spot double meanings and outright lies in the answers.

Although Regene is technically a turncoat and plays several sides against each other, he can also be seen as the most loyal of the Innovades, because he is the only one who never strays from their original purpose. This also shows a level of integrity beyond others of their kind, many of whom let Ribbons’s talk of superiority sway them.

Regene is highly intelligent and skilled in both manipulation and outright deception, and has a strong command of language that allows him to use doublespeak to his advantage.

It’s not stated explicitly, but Regene appears to show a capacity for warmth, even fondness, that is beyond other Innovades (with the exceptions of Tieria and Anew Returner); he shows this in subtly different smiles, a shift in tone of voice at telling times, and especially when speaking of or to Setsuna F. Seiei as the first true Innovator.

weaknesses: While not at the same level as Ribbons Almark, Regene is definitely arrogant and proud, which shows in how often they need to resort to triple or quadruple-crosses to make up for assuming some weakness in the other. This also shows itself as condescension that he sometimes slips into long before he’s had time to make a proper judgment of his opponent.

Regene is also not as cool-headed as he would like to appear, giving in to many moments of frustration and outright temper when he is undermined (and especially when he seems to be bested.) In extreme circumstances, he will even lash out with lethal force, although he is not naturally volatile in temperament.

He can be judgmental to such a degree that he doesn’t seem to like many people, and gives into childish rudeness that undermines his subterfuge at times when this dislike is particularly high. The flipside to his loyalty could even be seen as ruthlessness with those he views as below his regard, in that he will guiltlessly craft and break false connections with them to serve what he views as his true purpose; in fact, he defaults to manipulation so naturally that trust issues can pose a serious problem on both sides.

Regene’s greatest physical weakness is the backdoor system built into his mind by Ribbons Almark, through which Ribbons can watch and control any of the Innovades’ actions (except Tieria, because Ribbons did not play a part in his creation.)

job skills (optional): Rhetorical language, stratagem, troubleshooting
housing (optional): No preferences
