riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

Sample Applications: Ronan Lynch (Canon Character; Written Background), Yuuri Katsuki (Canon Character; CRAU), Derek Hale (Canon Character; CRAU), Tolemi Pagoda (Original Character), Benjamin Holt (Original Character)

prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)

Scott Lang | Ant Man/MCU | not reserved

[personal profile] toolatetochangethename 2017-03-07 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
player information
● name: Radi
● age: 36
● contact: dm
● other characters: None

character information
● name: Scott Edward Harris Lang
● canon: MCU
● canon point: Post-Civil War
● age: 32

● (canon) background: BEHOLD: the wikia link
● (original) world: n/a

● abilities:
size manipulation The Ant-Man suit gives him the abilities to shrink down to, yeah, ant size, and also to grow much larger. The suit also magnifies his strength, and increased durability (ants are tough!)

ant communication Pym's technology also allows him to communicate with ants (should he find any) to get them to do his bidding. He can't fly in his suit, but he can ride flying ants, like carpenter ants, through this technology.

● strengths:
His strengths include his moral code--he only broke into VistaCorp because he was standing up for all the employees the company had screwed. Even though he does get convinced into burglarizing Pym's house, it's only because he's assured that Pym's insurance would cover everything, and he had no other way to get money to see his daughter.

He's also loyal to his friends, even people like Luis, his former celly. He is willing to fight for them, as he does in Civil War, and is even willing to potentially sacrifice himself for them, as he does in helping Bucky and Steve escape the airport.

He stays calm under pressure, and never seems to take things too seriously, though some of his jokes are kind of lame.

● weaknesses:
He's not that good with people. You know the type: book-smart, people-stupid. He thought he could lie to Baskin Robbins about his past, and, yeah, that didn't work. His daughter loves him, but his ex and her new beau don't find a lot to love in him, seeing him (not entirely wrongly) as a deadbeat who wouldn't be a good part of Cassie's life.

While he's determined to learn new skills (as he tries to train in the Ant-Man suit), he isn't always the fastest learner.

He really is not a fan of Tony Stark, partly due to Pym's own dislike of the other man, but now, after Civil War events, Scott has his own reasons to dislike the guy who, let's face it, is a ton smarter, wealthier, and more successful than Scott will ever be.

He wants to be a hero--he wants his daughter, at least, to look up to him, and that drive to prove himself is one of those strengths that can also be a weakness, because, inside, he's not really sure he's got the right stuff.

● skills (optional):

As an electrical engineer, Scott has a broad base of scientific knowledge, which he doesn't always use for the forces of good.

He has some good hand-to-hand combat skills.

He has some computer programming skills. He's no master hacker, but he did write the VistaCorp security systems programming and also corrected VistaCorp's thieving program.

● housing (optional): ANYTHING is better than prison.

● network username: formica (it's an ant joke)

● network sample:
[Times like this, he misses Luis. There were probably a few other times he'd miss Luis, too, but mostly right now, when some charm, and/or a good right hook, were called for. Not that Scott was shy or anything, but, yeah, this whole hero thing was still kind of new.

But hey, he's friends with Captain America. THE Captain America! Right. He's got this. What would Cap say?]

Greetings, citizens.

[All right, no. Nobody talks like that. Nobody.]

Yeah. I mean, hi, everyone.

Just want to say, uh, sorry about that whole thing last night. Got a little carried away with training.

[Oh, no. A terrible pun has come to mind. Don't say it, Scott. Don't say it!!!]

You might call it some antics.

[Even from another dimension away, Hank Pym is probably facepalming.]

character information
name: curtis holt
canon: arrow (dctv)
canon point: end of 5.15, right after paul hands him the divorce papers
age: 34 (not stated in canon so going with actor age)

(canon) background: here
(original) world: n/a

abilities: no non-human abilities.

BRAINS
very high intelligence, with a degree in biochemistry and lots of practical experience with engineering. was head of innovation department at palmer tech. while his skills are not quite on the same level as felicity, he is still a very competent hacker and excellent with computers. he has the mechanical know-how to design and create all kinds of technology.

BRAWN
curtis is an olympic-level athlete (won bronze at beijing olympics in the decathlon) at peak fitness and in excellent health. this means he is a fast runner, a precise and skilled jumper, and capable of throwing various-shaped objects long distances. by this canon point curtis has more than half a year's training in hand-to-hand combat from oliver queen, which makes him a capable but not exceptional fighter.

strengths:
MORALITY
curtis has a very definite sense of right and wrong - despite working with team arrow for over a year (at first just as tech support, and then in the field) he has not had to compromise what he believes in. while he does feel a sense of loyalty to his husband and his team, but he also doesn't hesitate to criticize or defy them in order to do what needs to be done.

ENTHUSIASM
despite being surrounded by quite a few confirmed gloombuckets, curtis is an overall happy and energetic person. he is frequently the one making jokes to boost everyone's morale, or saying that they cannot give in to despair or give up. he doesn't disguise his passion for science, technology, pop culture, or the FUN of being a masked vigilante.

PERSEVERANCE
while his particular set of athletic skills isn't always useful for hand-to-hand combat, what IS useful is curtis' self-discipline and determination. when he has a goal, curtis doesn't give up until he reaches it, and until that time he has the focus and follow-through to take his time and get there. this is probably curtis' most important strength: he wasn't a born genius or naturally talented athlete, but he is willing to put in the work, and he doesn't give up.

weaknesses:
STUBBORNNESS
this is the opposite side of the perseverance coin: curtis is STUBBORN. obstinate. hardheaded. intractable. it's a strength that he never gives up, but it is also a weakness. he misses opportunities and different angles when he gets stuck on a particular idea or path. he can also be stubborn in his judgements of other people - because of that strong moral compass, it's hard to sway him when curtis thinks he is right and someone else is wrong.

NERVES
curtis is a human like anyone else and occasionally deals with self-doubt and fear, particularly because his life before joining the green arrow's team did not involve a lot of obvious hardship or danger. he occasionally chokes under pressure, particularly if that pressure is a physical confrontation where he's in danger. one of his struggles as a fighter is to believe in himself and get out of his head enough to just be in the moment.

CARELESS
specifically, curtis can be careless in his words and actions. before his husband found out about his double life as a vigilante, curtis missed dates, forgot to get around to answering phone calls and texts, etcetera. in addition to this, his desire to make jokes and have a good time occasionally leads to awkwardness when he chooses to do so at the wrong time. he doesn't always read the tone of a situation right and it can lead him to be insensitive, though almost never willfully cruel.

skills (optional): biochemistry, engineering (esp. mechanical), fitness/athleticism
housing (optional): surprise me

character information
name: Morrigan
canon: Dragon Age
canon point: Post-Inquisition, a few days after Corypheus is defeated.
age: Not specified by canon. Based on info in supplemental canon sources I put her at about 34 at this particular point.

(canon) background: Morrigan @ the DA Wiki. A few important variables in Morrigan's life are dependent on player choice. In this case, I'm saying she was on friendly terms with a female city elf Warden who refused Morrigan's ritual at the end of Origins and died upon killing the Archdemon. This means Morrigan was unromanced and has not had a child. Her Inquisitor allowed her to drink from the Well of Sorrows at the end of Inquisition.
(original) world: N/A

abilities: Morrigan is a shapeshifting witch. According to conversations within canon and the shapeshifting abilities she uses in game, she's able to shift into the following forms: a cat, a raven, a wolf, a swarm of stinging insects, a bear, a giant spider, and a dragon. (While temporarily turning into a dragon may not be a game-breaking ability, it's potentially destructive enough that I'll understand if that's better off nerfed or taken away.) Canon makes a big deal of her magical knowledge but often doesn't let us know exactly what she knows about types of magic considered forbidden where she's from until necessary for the plot, so I primarily use the branches of magic most common to mages there: primal, entropy, spirit, and creation. She's also an experienced herbalist who can make potions and poisons, although she'll have to spend some time familiarizing herself with the new-to-her plantlife in-game if she wants to use it. Knowledge granted to her by the Well of Sorrows probably won't come into play much here since she's no longer in Thedas; it'd be along the lines of getting mental nudges about notable historical figures, particularly elves, from her world if they happened to show up in-game. The most likely examples I can think of are Flemeth and Solas, and if either of them shows up I'll make sure to talk to their player behind the scenes first.

strengths: Morrigan was raised to be a survivor. Though the lessons her mother taught her were often harsh, they made her self-sufficient and resilient. She's accustomed to fending for herself, but she's adaptable when she recognizes a need for it: in the last eleven years she's gone from living a largely solitary life in the wilds to serving as the arcane advisor to an Empress. While she may be reluctant to make alliances, she always does it when she sees a need, showing a willingness to do what she feels she needs to in order to survive and achieve her goals.

Morrigan is passionate about magic. She's a talented mage who was brought up with a distinct lack of respect for any of the usual limits the society around her put on magic. She relishes her own abilities and has a deep-rooted interest in preserving powerful magical artifacts. Few things engage her quite like magic does.

Morrigan has great willpower. From not falling for demonic illusions to belittling the habits of the Orlesian court while living and working within it, she's her own person, she's not easy prey for magical or mental manipulation, and she prefers not to put herself in positions where she needs to answer to anyone else.

weaknesses: Morrigan's biggest flaws kind of go hand-in-hand with the above strengths. For example, Morrigan is mostly self-motivated. I think of her as neutral with good leanings: she helps save the day because the bad guys' plans usually involve terrible things like death and destruction for many, including herself. Despite that (and even though she's more capable of courtesy now than she was when we were first introduced to her), she's not going out of her way for anyone if she doesn't see a decent reason for it and generosity will never be a defining trait.

Related to that, she's prickly with people. Distrust for others was part of her upbringing: she relied only on herself and was taught to put value in survival and power rather than love and sentiment. She's not as instinctively mean as she used to be, tempered by time and experience, but the prickliness remains and opening up emotionally is a challenge. She's had few real friends and she's never been in love.

Morrigan is also proud. She's a capable person and knows it. She tends to look down her nose at those who seem more easily led, weaker, or more sentimental. At times she can be pretty condescending. Her confidence easily crosses the line and becomes outright arrogance where her magical ability is concerned, and power can make her impulsive.

character information
name: Jason Todd
canon: DC Comics (New 52/Rebirth)
canon point: Red Hood and the Outlaws volume 2 #6
age: 22

(canon) background: Link to Jason’s wiki info.

abilities:
Lazarus-Enhanced Capabilities: As of his perfect resurrection by the Lazarus Pit, he ages slower than most humans and regenerates from injuries at a very fast rate.
Master Martial Artist: Jason Todd is a highly skilled combatant trained by Batman. He’s well-versed in a variety of styles, though he tends to really just be more of a brawler in a fight, ignoring the finesse of his training unless he absolutely has to rely upon it.
Skilled Marksman and Swordsman: Jason is also well-versed in the use of firearms and sword-fighting.
Multi-Lingual: Jason is fluent in several languages having spoken English, French, German, Italian and various others with Russian being his weakest.

strengths: One of Jason’s greatest strengths is his compassion. Not towards villains or anything, mind you. He's got no love for the bad guys and would rather just put a bullet in their heads, but for the good guys, for the ones who can't protect themselves, Jason is always willing to stand up and help out. It's what makes him a hero...or at least one of the better anti-heroes. This is also further seen when Jason, realizing that Bizarro may have been a threat, was ready to kill him. But spending time with him, Jason realized that Bizarro meant well and was an innocent. Instead of killing him, Jason brought Bizarro under his wing, to protect him and maybe teach him the ways of the world. Bizarro was just as mistreated by the world as Jason had been, after all.

Like most heroic types, Jason also has a nobility about him. Even if he is angry at you, or has a grudge against you, when the time comes to do the right thing - such as when Batman and the others had to face off against the Court of Owls and their assassins, the Talons, Jason made sure he was there to help, even if he was angry with some of them, because they were family, and he couldn't not help them.

Jason genuinely wants to help the world and the people in it. He may resort to some dark methods to doing so - killing criminals and thugs instead of reforming them - but that's only because he feels that it's a better way of doing things, because he doesn't believe that everyone can be reformed. He will go out of his way to help even if it puts him in danger. When Artemis was searching for clues to a mythical bow she needed, Jason - who was undercover at the time - tried his best to get her the information she needed to help her, even if it meant that his cover might have been blown. This sense of sacrifice comes from Jason’s fearlessness. He's already died once - he has very little left to fear now, so he will do his best to help the world.

weaknesses: One of Jason’s biggest personality weaknesses is his brash nature. Though he’s been taught the lessons of patience over and over again – especially since his brash nature led to his death a few years ago – he’s never quite learned from the experience and continues to jump headfirst into situations that usually require a little bit of introspection first. He thinks that he’s got things covered, and that he’s capable of handling the situation, even though the odds are usually against him. He has shown this impulse of his time and again, such as when he dove in to save his friend Roy Harper from being imprisoned. It was just Jason - in disguise - against military-trained people, but he went for it anyway.

His brash arrogance is also clouded by an unhealthy dose of self-doubt. There are some days where Jason doesn't know who he is, or where he questions who he is. This stems from the discovery that Joker played a large hand in moulding Jason’s life from childhood onwards. Everything that happened up until Joker’s killing Jason had been manipulated by the Joker so that he could have a Robin to destroy, thus pushing Batman over the edge. Everything from Jason’s dad being framed to Jason’s mother appearing to have died (in actuality, Joker had simply drugged and kidnapped her) had been planned out to lead Jason to Batman. Because of this, he wonders how much of himself is truly him and how much of himself is who he is because the Joker had a hand in guiding the events of his life.

Jason is also filled with anger. Anger at the Joker, anger at Batman, anger at the world. He was a street kid with a bad life who died, and whose death was unavenged. Though he's worked hard at tempering that anger and channeling it towards positives, there are still days where that anger takes over and causes him to lash out and the people in his life. He's always worried that he's just not good enough, or that he's not worth it - and sometimes when that happens, he tends to lash out unfairly to the people in his life, though they rarely let him get too far with that, and the anger never lasts long. He's no longer as angry as he once was, but that rage is still there under his surface, gently simmering.

skills (optional): Jason is a good detective, he speaks multiple languages, and he's a very good shot.
housing (optional): No preferences

network username: redhood

network sample:

[The device is nothing new to Jason. Sure, it might not be exactly what he’s used to, but he’s been around Batman and Roy Harper enough to know how to handle modern technology - even if technology seemed to somehow move ahead by leaps and bounds while he was dead.]

So is there anyone here that can point me in the direction to like shoot or punch something? I’ll even settle for like swordplay.

[He’s obviously a little twitchy, and in need of some sort of action. Resting isn’t something that comes naturally to Jason.

Wasn’t there something about monsters somewhere outside the city? Anyone want to go explore that with me?

character information
name: Natasha Romanoff
canon: MCU
canon point: post Civil War
age: allegedly early 30s

(canon) background: http://marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Black\_Widow

abilities: Natasha can and will kick your ass.

She is extremely proficient in the use of almost all weapons, as well as unarmed hand to hand combat. Second only to Clint as a ranged marksman. Highly skilled as an interrogator with everything ranging from reverse interrogation to extreme torture. She's a very talented actress, speaks a ridiculous number of languages, is an accomplished hacker, and excels in pretty much all the standard areas of espionage. She’s also very impressive physically. She picks up new fighting techniques insanely quickly, is on par with olympic level athletes, and does it all on the fly without planning or safety nets. I’m pretty sure she could have one hell of a lucrative career in Cirque du Soleil.

I tried to simplify my take on her in another application once. Basically, if you think of skills as points, Natasha has more points than the people around her, and she's spread them evenly across the board. Now, if a more normal person spent all their points in one area, they'd beat her at it. Not by a whole lot, though, and she’d still run circles around them in everything else.

I play MCU Natasha as being genetically enhanced. Not to the extent she is in the comics, but to me it’s pretty obvious that she’s not just run of the mill human. I sort of split the difference between normal human, and the extent to which she’s genetically altered in the comics. Slower aging, faster healing, quicker reflexes, stronger bones and muscles. The kind of thing that lets her get thrown across a room by an explosion and walk away from it in high heels. Nothing that I would consider superhuman, exactly, because that’s more in the arena of certain X-Men and Deadpool and Thor and people on that much higher level. It’s something, though - an extra level.

strengths: A lot of her strengths are things I’ve gone over in her abilities section. Some of them might belong down here, some of the things I mention here might belong up there. It’s a blurry line with someone like Natasha, who turns every part of herself into some kind of weapon or defense.

So let’s talk mental and emotional strengths.

Natasha has absolutely amazing psychological resilience, which is probably not surprising to anyone who knows what she’s been through. Problem is, not many people have a clue, and only one truly understands. She is a survivor, a fighter, she will adapt and thrive because there is no other option for her. Adversity will break you or make you strong enough to overcome it, and Natasha faced enough during her Red Room training to make her damn near indestructible. Now, that’s not the same thing as being unaffected. Far from it, in fact. Natasha accepts the things that happen to her, and lets them move through her. The bad thing in her life don’t define her for one simple reason - if she allowed them to, she’d be crushed under the weight of them.

She also has an amazingly strong sense of self. This doesn’t have anything to do with self esteem or confidence. She just knows who he is. It might not sound that impressive until you factor in just how much of Natasha’s life she spends pretending to be someone else. The talent she has for holding onto who she really is underneath all those masks she wears is a big part of what keeps her sane in her line of work.

A sense of humor might seem like an odd thing to consider a strength, but again, it’s all about context. For Natasha, it’s not only a coping mechanism, but a survival mechanism. Most people reach a point of “I have to laugh or I’ll cry” at some point in their lives. Natasha’s pretty much set up camp there. The fact that she can find humour in the small things, that she can look at insurmountable odds and crack jokes, it’s something fairly special.

weaknesses: Natasha has some serious trust issues, which is probably not a surprise to anyone. Or it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, if she trusted them enough to tell them about her life. So that’s a fun little cycle that kind of feeds itself. She has trouble letting people get close to her, and being honest with them once they are. It takes her a very long time to make friends, and even then, to some extent she’s always playing a part. Emotional growth is not exactly something she’s made much progress on in her adult life.

She also protects herself by hurting others, which maybe wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that she’s in some pretty deep denial on that front. This partly stems from the fact that she rarely lets anyone get to know the real her, but that’s going to be a common thread through pretty much everything she does. Something that’s been a means of survival for such a long time can’t just be set aside. She will crack the wrong joke at the wrong time to make someone mad at her. She will push all the right buttons at the worst times to make someone lash out. The best/worst part of it is that she’s good enough to make most people think that they’re the one making the choices that drive a wedge between them.

I’m not sure if I would call this a weakness, or a flaw, but one of the biggest things that can make Natasha difficult to deal with is a major case of survivor’s guilt which can manifest as aggression, anxiety, and ruthlessness. Not to mention it causes her to have a very skewed view of her own self worth. As a tool, she knows she’s damn near flawless. You won’t find a better spy or assassin, and she doesn’t doubt this. What causes her issue is the belief that it’s completely impossible to be both good at the job she does, and a good person. She believes that she is so deep in moral debt that she’ll never be able to climb out of it. She fully believes that, no matter how much good she does now, her ledger will never be in the black. If you asked Natasha, and she was actually willing to be honest with you, she’d tell you that she is the best agent and worst human being you’ll ever meet. She’ll do it with a smile on her face and amusement in her voice that will make you wonder if she’s being serious, but she’ll still come back with that position every time.

skills (optional): I’ve gone over most of her skills in other sections of the app, so I figure I’ll just very quickly go over the ones that I think might be useful in placing her in a job.

She’s an amazing assassin, spy, and general ass kicker. She can shoot any weapon you give her, take out anything you put in front of her, and she doesn’t flinch. Her skills as a hacker and interrogator could be useful if there’s anything they’ll be facing with more intelligence than the monsters. She’s also tough as nails, and I’d go so far as to call her a survivalist. Bear Grylls who? If a team ever needed to head beyond the safe zone and needed to make it back in one piece, I think she’d be a very good addition to that team.

housing (optional): Shared housing would be fantastic. She’d fuck off from a communal room, but she’d be willing to deal with a single roommate. Stick her near someone who will annoy her, please, because she won’t already be grumpy enough. XD

[The camera feed for this message doesn’t show a face. It doesn’t show any part of a person, actually, save for a flash of fingertips at the beginning as someone starts the transmission. What it does show is the floor, and on the floor is a belt buckle.]

So, how messed up is this place? Puts the number of teenage runaways who never turn up again into a whole new light. Might even explain Amelia Earhart. Probably can’t do much for the Lindbergh baby. Can an infant even know that they don’t belong?

Not the point.

If I understand this correctly, I’m not the only person who didn’t really want to come here? They don’t have the best batting average, do they? This seems like a hell of a price to pay for having a moment of clarity about your place in the world. Still, if I’m here, I’m hoping there will be at least one familiar face from home. Preferably one I don’t want to punch.

So… Avengers Assemble. [The words are delivered with all the levity of a eulogy, and you don’t need the camera to show her face to know that she’s not smiling.] Or at least check in. We aren’t exactly a study in the emotionally well adjusted. I can’t be the only one of us here.

character information
name: Dick Grayson
canon: DC Comics (Preboot)
canon point: Nightwing v2 39, just after kissing Babs
age: ~comics~ 23ish

(canon) background: a long ass wiki only relevant through Publication History > Nightwing > mini-series and ongoing

abilities:

Superior Human Conditioning: Dick is at Olympic levels of fitness and able to perform at a high level athletically, with extremely high endurance, speed and flexibility.

Hand-to-Hand Fighting: Name a style and Dick has probably mastered it down to the nth degree. Though he lacks metahuman abilities he’s tested and refined his skills over the many years he’s worked in the field, and in the past he’s been shown to be pretty capable of going toe-to-toe with street thugs by the dozen, psychopaths, and a broad selection of high powered metas. He's a very good shot despite his general aversion to firearms, and he also knows his way around a bo staff, escrima sticks, nunchucks, batarangs, throwing knives and many other types of weapons.

Detective Abilities/Advanced Chemistry: Dick is able to handle evidence, document crimes, follow leads, and conduct interrogations. With access to appropriate equipment he's capable of running advanced tests on blood, dirt, and other substances that may trace evidence back to specific individuals, and he can synthesize various poisons, antitodes, and weaponized chemicals (ex: smoke bombs, light pellets).

Medical Skills: Dick has some training in how to handle medical emergencies and injuries in the field, and he carries a miniature med kit in his uniform at all times.

Languages: He’s fluent in at least English, Spanish, French, Romani, Russian, and Tamaranian. There’s probably more tbh.

Tech Skills/Mechanical Ability: Dick is a decent hacker and an excellent mechanic, capable of stripping down, repairing, and rebuilding his own equipment, weapons, and vehicles.

strengths:

Loyalty/Compassion
We see Dick diving off buildings to catch falling infants and supervillains alike without making a clear distinction between them, and his determination to refrain from killing at all costs comes as much from a need to see due process served as it does from Batman. It's a pattern Dick's taken far in life; wherever he goes he's quick to form connections and loathe to disengage from old relationships--even when it would be in his best interest to do so. Family is everything, and he'll be a devoted friend, brother, son or lover to the detriment of everything else in his life.

Willpower/Integrity
While his quick wisecracks and off-beat sense of humor can leave a flighty impression, Dick’s sense of responsibility for those around him never flags when he considers himself to be on the job. The lives of his loved ones depended on his ability to make the right decisions in the circus, and it’s a sense that’s been drilled into him tenfold by Batman. Gotham needed Robin, and now Bludhaven needs Nightwing, and Dick is driven to meet that need mostly by an overpowering desire to spare other people suffering. To make the random, often grotesque cruelty of crime in the DC universe somehow fair.

Adaptability/Persistence
Dick is nothing if not a natural survivor. As a child orphaned by a violent crime, he actively sought a father, friend, and teacher in Bruce before even Bruce was ready to assume the role on his own. While a part of him will always hurt for the loss of his parents, Dick never lost himself to vindictive anger and pain. Instead he thrived as part of a new family unit he in large part helped to facilitate, and it’s a skill that’s only grown with him.

weaknesses:

Low Self-Worth/Fear of Abandonment
Losing his parents at an early age has also left him with no shortage of abandonment issues, most of which manifest around the fear that he will lose – or be declared unworthy of – the love or respect of those he cares about. He can be volatile and quick to get angry when he’s feeling threatened, and his tendency to hold himself to unattainable standards (read: Batman’s standards) sometimes borders on pathological. Failing those he cares about is the fear that leaves him drenched in cold sweat in the wee hours of the morning.

Guarded
While we often see Dick chatting easily with others and building friendly rapports with new acquaintances, by necessity he invests a lot of time and energy into maintaining a secret identity, which can present a significant barrier to the closer bonds he might have formed otherwise. While the ideals he approaches the world with are inherently honest, most of his relationships with non-family members are based on fundamental dishonesty on his part. His total inability to keep dates with Clancy or come up with reasonable explanations for his absences at work speaks a lot to his state of mind--the full time gig of his heart will always be superheroing.

Self-righteousness/Stubbornness
Dick’s sense of justice tends to be black and white, without a lot of room for ideas that err outside of the sphere of what Batman considers acceptable. When he's come close to crossing the no-kill line himself—always in response to an intense personal loss—it’s a heated reaction to a particular moment in time, and one he'll always step back from later steeped in guilt and self-loathing. He's quick to get angry and lose patience with people who can’t or won’t define their actions based on a specific code of honor.

skills (optional): Detectiving, fighting crime, acrobating??
housing (optional): There’s a 95% chance he’ll be setting up a bat lair in some ruins ASAP, but I’d love to have him in general housing also for CR purposes. With the opportunity in place he’ll make more of an effort to be Dick rather than just single-mindedly pursuing superheroic goals in game which is probably better for everyone tbh

Has anyone tried chasing down the east side of the river? There’s a natural cliff about halfway down. Could be a good vantage point for spotting the lower fence, if we clear it. Though right now you do kinda have to be He-Man to get there. [ or, you know, Nightwing. ]

If anyone’s up for a project I could use some help shoring it up. We might want to start mapping a few of these out before the next, uh- breakdown.

[ conveniently, it's also a fairly low-capital way to scope out potential allies. ]

...Uh, speaking of which- [ or- not. you know what, he'll just let that be an awkward segue-way ] -maybe it doesn't rank all that high on your average "weird things about inter-dimensional travel" runup, but I'd be interested in seeing a breakdown of how far off most of us actually are from the new calendar here.

At least I know it wasn’t March back in Gotham...

Daryl Dixon | The Walking Dead | Not Reserved

character information
name: Daryl Dixon
canon: The Walking Dead
canon point: s5ep16 "Conquer" - Meeting Morgan.
age: Early to mid-40's

(canon) background: Survival Instinct & TV Show
(original) world: N/A

abilities: Daryl is an incredibly observant and smart man (far more than he's often given credit for due to his 'backwater' and 'hick' manner of speech and habits) who has been hunting and tracking for most of his life. The world going to shit just made him all the more dangerous, enhancing his skills with various weapons (crossbow, handguns, rifles, knives, even weapons like grenades that he wouldn't normally have access to) as well as his tracking and the ability to move silently merely through the rigors of constant use. Of his weapons, it is his crossbow with which he is the deadliest and most skilled.

He's very familiar with living off the land and has an extensive knowledge of the natural world native to his home state of Georgia. This includes interacting with animals, not just hunting them. It also includes vast range of general knowledge surrounding geology, ornithology, zoology, and botany.

His observation skills also apply to his intuition about people and he generally has a decent ability to tell 'good people' from 'bad people'. This is not infallible and he's been wrong on enough occasions to second guess himself, particularly when he's on his own and doesn't have someone he trusts to consult with, but he's had a track record of being right a good 80% of the time.

Due to the nature of his life after the Wildfire Outbreak, Daryl has become very good at making and using improvised weapons, as well as scavenging/salvaging the ruins of the world that was. He has shown himself to be a skilled mechanic when it comes to motorized vehicles and he's learned a lot about maintenance and repair of electronics, particularly generators, in the last year. He's also generally decent at field dressing wounds and, due to his brother having abused a lot of substances (and gotten more than a few STI's), knows his way around some uncommon medicines and pain relievers that usually remain in the realm of someone dedicated to learning medicine. It's not really enough to be an expert, but he can keep someone alive long enough to get them back to a doctor.

strengths: Daryl is one of the seemingly rare people who became a better person after the world went to shit. While everything about him seemed to point at him being a 'mini-Merle' - an angry, racist, volatile copy of his older brother when things first went down - Daryl has, instead, grown into his own person and shown himself to have a 'heart of gold'.

Daryl is a generally emotionally strong man that has learned to hide his perceived weaknesses behind anger and intimidation. He's had to put on a strong front, be tough, for as long as he can remember, and he does it well. He is adaptable and able to roll with the punches, as it were.

For all that he has some obvious anger issues, particularly in how easily he can get growly and grumbly with others, Daryl is one of the most level headed in his group. And he's only grown more so in the last two years. His hot-blooded, quick to anger attitude tempering out as he became a trusted leader and adviser within the group he's been running with. He largely puts the needs of the group first, and his own second.

He's open minded and optimistic in a way that comes across as unexpected because he's also very realistic. His caution with others belies a very open and bleeding heart. He actually believes there's still plenty of good in the world. Despite all that the group's been through and how it's stripped away the hope of many of those he cares about (Rick, Carol, Sasha), Daryl believes they still need to reach out and grow and try to trust others they come across if they can.

weaknesses: As a victim of childhood abuse (both physical and emotional) that extended long into his adulthood, Daryl has a hard time letting people get close and tends to be socially closed off. Even those he thinks of as family and would die for, he keeps at a distance and doesn't share much of his past with. Not the parts that he thinks are shameful or would come across as 'weak'. He has a lot of self-esteem issues he's still working through.

One of the obvious signs of his past 'weakness' are the scars that cover his back from when his father would take a belt to him. Because of them, Daryl doesn't usually take his shirt off where anyone can see them unless a doctor needs to have a look at his back. The closest he comes of his own volition is wearing a button up he's cut the sleeves off of and the few times he's been forced to show them, he's been very defensive and done his best to cover up quickly. He also doesn't like to admit in any real way that he's struggling with his abuse and recovery. As such, he deflects all lines of discussion away from the topic if it ever focuses on him.

skills (optional): Hunter/Tracker, Scavenger, Mechanic
housing (optional): he can be assigned anywhere, but he'll probably end up bunking with Rick and/or Carl in the long run

Revisions!

[personal profile] mysophobic 2017-03-08 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
For his powers I'll be nerfing them in that it'll take more time/energy for him to complete some of the higher leveled healing he can do. So for mending broken bones and for curing diseases it'll take up to 4 months to complete fully (depending on the break) complete fractures will take 5 months while splinters and minor breaks will take half the time. Also after each session of this type of high end healing (broken bones) it will drain his energy just enough that he'll only be able to complete minor healing magic throughout the rest of the day. Minor healing is basically healing cuts, scrapes, bruises and whatever else consists of non-life threatening injuries.

As for missing limbs that will take upwards to a year and a half to complete and if he tries to push or to overstep his limits in a day of doing so it will leave him extremely fatigued and unable to do much healing for 2 days afterwards.

These nerfs can be applied to his decomposition power as well depending on what he's breaking down. Nonorganic materials such as metals and fibers will take longer to breakdown depending on their thickness and complexity. Whereas organic materials will follow the above aforementioned nerfs. Also using his decomposition power will leave him drained for around 4 hours afterwards, meaning he will only be able to preform minor healing+decomp afterwards.

All the added revisions will be in bold for this section!

● strengths:

Strong willed – Despite all of his hardships and trying to beat his phobia Shigeru is rather strong in that he continuously fights on. Despite all his mental and social hang ups he is a rather capable individual with compassion and understanding towards others. Whereas many would have given up, Shigeru continues to push himself to his limits and tries to better himself. This is mostly seen when he actually joins the special forces team that saves him and Alex. Most people would have hid and shied away after an incident like that, but Shigeru continues to fight to try and help others. And that's the beauty of Shigeru's resolve, it doesn't just extend towards his position in the special forces. For example he’ll try to push himself to do things he otherwise would never do, such as eating food at a restaurant or just even going to a crowded area. He tries to strengthen his resolve and keep himself busy so as to not have his mind linger too much on any one specific thing.

Open minded – Shigeru is rather inquisitive by nature, given the fact that he’s never seen many things in the world as a whole. But he knows what it feels like to be ostracized and hated for being what you are, so he never wants anyone to feel that way, especially by his own doing. Shigeru's open-mindedness lends into his curiosity and this all stems from the fact that as a child he was locked away in a room for a good majority of his childhood. Being able to experience new things was something of a treat to him. So naturally this transitioned into adulthood as well. He'll often have a child-like curiosity to many things unknown and new to him and this is typically how he expresses himself.

Protective – His past failures with Klein and Alex make him extremely protective of his friends and family. Knowing that his body self-heals allows him to make crazy and otherwise life endangering moves. He sees himself almost as a shield for most so he will do whatever it takes to keep them safe.

● weaknesses:

Self-sacrificing – This couples with his protectiveness in that Shigeru is pretty self-sacrificing due to his powers and just the mentality he has in general. He will always give it his all regardless of the dangers involved with doing so. But he also sees it as a chance to make sure no one else gets hurt. Shigeru's self-sacrificing nature is instilled by the fact that he's had so many failures in his life, such as saving Klein and other people who have been hurt or killed while he was on duty. As a doctor of sorts he tries to save every life he possibly can with whatever methods he has and this often makes him push himself to his limits, often it's to the point were someone (namely Alex) has to tell him to stop so he doesn't burn out.

Self-deprecating – Shigeru is not very kind to himself because he holds himself at such a high level. His thoughts, when he fails to overcome his phobia, are extremely self-destructive at best. He hates when he can’t fight back and is unable to help due to his mental state and will often fall into depression rather easily. This nature also stems from the fact that, after his loss of control against Jern in the mansion, he kind of has a lapse in faith in his own abilities. He's shaken quite a bit after realizing he's not as all together as he once thought he was, and he constantly beats himself up over it. Shigeru struggles with the tiniest of things sometimes and that leads to a sense of self-deprecation, which in turn leads to depression that can last for days. Ultimately he’s way too hard on himself despite how strong many people view him to be.

Naïve - Not seeing much of the world has made him almost child-like in how he views certain things. Shigeru is pretty naïve because of this and it shows when he doesn’t understand simple social norms or things that most people know. It’s that sort naivety that led him to try and plead with Jern to let Shuu go despite the man not caring about Shuu at all. His dreams of an idealistic world are bred from his naivety as well. Shigeru wants to fight and protect everyone he cares about and wishes that people would set aside their difference to do so. Such thinking in a world like his is naive by anyone's standards, and Shigeru having little knowledge of the world shows his naivety quite readily.
