character information
name: Roy Mustang
canon: Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga)
canon point: Chapter 56, after loaning Ed 520 cens and realizing he left Lieutenant Hawkeye outside the entire night he was stuck with King Bradley.
age: 30

(canon) background: His wiki page.
(original) world: N/A

abilities: • Flame Alchemy: Roy is known as the Flame Alchemist and has the ability to create explosions with a snap of his fingers. He wears gloves with a transmutation circle on them, and they are made of a special cloth that creates sparks when rubbed together. Roy uses alchemy to transmute the air around him to adjust the oxygen content, and when added with the spark of his gloves, makes a fie ball. He can control the intensity of the blast, and even the direction in which he fires, as he is seen shooting balls of flame from around corners and into windows. As a state alchemist, Roy is an expert alchemist and has the knowledge and skill to perform other transmutations. However, since he has not opened the Gate like Edward and Alphonse, he does need to use transmutation circles to do so.

• Military Command: Roy is a Colonel in the Amestris military and has served for a number of years, including serving as a “human weapon” during the Ishvalan campaign. During Ishval, he more or less just used his alchemy and didn’t have much to do with ordering troops, but during the series we see him organize missions and give orders to his small group of loyal subordinates. He is an excellent tactician, being capable of devising his own strategies to obtain his objectives while minimizing casualties on his side.

• Smooth Talker: If anyone knows Roy Mustang, they know that he is a womanizer and can be very flattering when he wants to be. Roy is very conscious of the power of language and can manipulate others to do as he wishes, even so far as to appear to have little to no influence in their decisions.

strengths: • Cool Head: Mustang is able to keep his wits about him even in dire situations and wouldn’t have been able to survive the Ishvalan campaign if he didn’t. During missions, Mustang is able to keep his focus on the objective and change his strategy if he needs to. For the most part, Roy knows and is capable of keeping his emotions from interfering with his objectives, though there are a couple instances where he lets his fear and anger impact his decisions.

• Compassion: For those that don’t know the Colonel personally, he often comes off as selfish and self-absorbed. However, on a deeper level, Mustang cares deeply for his subordinates and those he sees as his duty to protect. He is willing to risk his life for his men and does his best to use his power to protect others before using it for his own gain.

• Intelligence: While it would be stretch to call Roy a genius, he is still very intelligent. He is a very capable alchemist and excellent military tactician. It should be noted that his outward persona of being a lazy worker and womanizer is more of a façade in order to cause those unfamiliar to him to underestimate his intelligence and abilities, thus always keeping an ace up his sleeve.

weaknesses: • Over-Protection: Roy takes full responsibility for his subordinates. He believes it is on him to protect them and those too weak to defend themselves. While this is a good quality to have in a commanding officer, Roy’s fear over losing his men causes him to sometimes act out of impulse. During a covert mission, Roy leaves his post and goes to rescue Hawkeye and Fuery, thus allowing the enemy to know that he is moving against them. He also lies to Edward and Alphonse about the murder of Hughes because he is afraid that it will keep them from continuing their journey.

• Anger: Roy usually has control over his emotions, but he has limits like everyone else. His anger manifests after the death of Maes Hughes, and Roy dedicates himself to solving the murder more out of vengeance than justice. When he does confront Envy, Roy loses control and ruthlessly goes on the attack, torturing Envy in his rage. His anger is so intense that he doesn’t flinch when Envy tries to change his shape into Hughes during this fight. It only angers Roy further, and in the end, he isn’t able to stop himself until Hawkeye literally puts a gun to his head and begs him to stop.

• Haunted: The Ishvalan Campaign was genocide, and Mustang was a key figure in it. To his men, he is the “Hero of Ishval,” as he was able to clean out areas without risking the lives of enlisted men. To the Ishvalans he exterminated, he is a monster. In canon, Roy is not shown to be bothered by the experience, but Edward mentions that Roy will not speak of Ishval, even when asked. This could also tie in to his attachment to his subordinates and his fear of losing them.

[Roy’s face appears on screen wearing his trademark smirk.]
So, are there any kind ladies to show a newcomer around? Don’t worry, I’ll pay for dinner.
While I’m here, I’d also like to ask about all the other worlds people were pulled from. I’d be willing to share about my own, of course.

prose/action sample:
Roy had been flustered when he first arrived to Riverview. He had been on his way to check on Lieutenant Hawkeye, who he had left outside of high command while he had his “talk” with the Fuhrer when he suddenly found himself in a very strange building with strange people. It didn’t take long for him to realize that yelling wouldn’t get him anywhere though, and he sat through the orientation as patiently as he could. It was difficult to absorb. The whole idea of different worlds and being pulled from those worlds was ridiculous. As much as Mustang rejected the idea, he couldn’t deny that he wasn’t in Central, or really any part of Amestris anymore. It didn’t help that when pressed, these people didn’t really have any information with how all of this happened, or at least, they were too unwilling to share it. He had asked if other people from “his world” had come through the portal, and was told that it was possible, but he wouldn’t put his hopes in it. He hadn’t been the only one to come through that portal, and from the looks of it, the chances of running into someone he knew was slim.

As much as he didn’t like it, Roy knew it would be best to go along with everything. He cooperated and give the information he was asked to give and followed his guide silently as he was led to the commons. It was empty for now, giving him some time to sort out his thoughts and fiddle around with the strange little device he was given. If anything, this wasn’t the worst situation to be in by far. The technology here was certainly something to marvel at, and the lodgings, while described as basic, was still better than his own apartment in Central. He was surprised at the amount of freedom he was given, though he couldn’t leave out the possibility of an ulterior motive for whoever called the shots here.

Time was on his side here if what they said about time stopping in their worlds was true.
For now, his plan was to watch and wait. Meet people, set up a network like he did in Central if he could, and go from there.
