riverview: setting and locations
Nestled deep in a lush valley, Riverview Quarantine is a vast city capable of supporting a population of over 2 million residents. However, after an extradimensional epidemic decimated the population several years ago, only a fraction of the city is still inhabited and habitable. There are two laser fences protecting the city from the wild forests outside, one at the furthest boundaries of the city that is frequently in and out of service, and a much stronger and more well-maintained one surrounding the currently inhabited area. The city has a high level of technology and the currently inhabited area is comprised of the previous city center, and so has all the amenities of a normal city.
Since the Quarantine was built as a co-operative project by many different planets and species, the architecture in the city is extremely varied and variable, with wildly different aesthetics and building styles represented across the city. Some notable locations can be found below, with more NPC and player-created businesses located on the occupations page.

● Riverview is set on a moon orbiting the Capital World, so what does the sky look like on the moon including visibility of the Capital World, other satellites, and constellations?
● The Portal: Since it is the only naturally-occurring interdimensional portal in reality 5561A, it is also the only remaining portal after every created portal was destroyed in the wake of The Great War. The portal has been contained with a ring of technology to prevent growth that could result in destruction of the moon itself. The portal changes destination every hour and cannot be directed forcibly, only gently guided - thus the difficulty in sending new arrivals home.
● Community Housing: This is where new arrivals are given a home for free for the first month of their new lives in Riverview Quarantine. Characters may stay in Community Housing long-term or leave whenever it suits them. More information can be found here.
● Hospitals, Schools, and Government Buildings: Located in the center of the inhabited area of the city is the Riverview Hospital, Riverview University, Riverview Polytechnic University, Perimeter Guard Barracks, and the government buildings and town hall. Scattered throughout the city are various elementary, middle, and high schools. Characters are welcome to attend any of these schools, and medical care is free of charge.
● Entertainment and Shopping: Surrounding the pertinent government buildings, there is a wide variety of entertainment and shopping options. Restaurants, malls, department stores, car dealerships, grocery stores, body mod parlors, museums, movie and live theatres, a racetrack, swimming pools, and whatever else you could think of.
● Residential: While there are quite a few freestanding houses, most of the residential capacity is in large skyscrapers that overlook the river, surrounded by parks and decked out with as much greenery as possible to lend them an organic and natural air.
● The River: The community overlooks a large river that carved the valley out of the surface of the moon. The river is wide and sluggish, moving from the Northeast just above where the inhabited part of the city is to the Southwest just below the furthest reach of the outer fence, where it tumbles over high cliffs in massive waterfalls that color the sky with rainbows when the sun shines. There are several small beaches along the river that allow for swimming and fishing.
● Transportation: Any part of the inhabited city can be reached by SkyTram, a suspended bullet car system that travels to major hubs, and the GroundTram, which runs on rails along most roads. Transit is very fast and efficient. Characters may also purchase vehicles through use of Activity Points.
● The Abandoned City: Outside of the inner fence, there is a huge expanse of abandoned city. The abandoned city has some features that the inhabited city does not, including a fairground and amusement park, a waterpark, a large sports arena, a large sunshiny beachfront boardwalk with river cruises, a zoo facility that the Capital World would gladly populate were it cleared out, beautiful hiking trails around the delta and waterfalls, and an expanded transportation network. There are also a variety of historical and religious sites from dozens of different planets to explore, and mines, factories, and farming areas that could allow Riverview Quarantine to be more self-sufficient and profitable. Be careful though: due to the nature of the moon and the quick-growing vegetation, most areas in the abandoned city are grown over, and due to the occasional fluctuations of the outer fence - there may be monsters.
