riverview: exploration/expansion progress report
One of the major and most highly-valued cultural concepts in Riverview is that of exploration, expansion. Especially now that, with the recent influx of new arrivals, as the portal kicks into high gear for reasons not entirely known, the Inhabited City, already comfortably full, is rapidly becoming overpopulated. With all the refugees from other worlds pouring in from day to day, the city's safe space and resources are being taxed to their breaking point.
But the exploratory spirit of the Quarantine's people, progress is being made. This entry is to track the progress made in the four main exploration objectives.
objective i: fortification of the outer wall
This objective is related to the outer wall of the Abandoned City. The first objective is to ensure that the outer wall is functional, structurally sound, and capable of protecting inhabitants to the same degree as the inner wall.
● Scouting The Wall ● mission thread ● Jim Kirk is in the process of leading a team to scout the outer wall of the Abandoned City to look for breaches and trouble areas.
objective ii: expansion into the abandoned city
This objective is related to ensuring the safety of the Abandoned City so the residents of the Inhabited City can start spreading out into this area. With the renewed influx of new residents, the Inhabited City is getting a bit crowded, and so it is imperative that the Abandoned City be reclaimed as soon as possible.
● SkyTram Relay ● High Voltage! | Securing the Line ● Ava Orlova tested her energy-based powers on a spur of the abandoned SkyTram and it brought an old power relay back online. The Quarantine at large took part in an operation to secure the area and the tram line leading there, in an effort to bring power to the area and inhabit it.
● Power Play ● mission thread ● Ava Orlova and a team cleared the monsters out of the area surrounding the relay station and Ava restarted it using her powers. This triggered the rebooting of a few more generators in the system, which were augmented and further stabilized by Tony Stark (MCU) and a team, using arc reactors, effectively and reliably repowering the area.
● Unfolding Amenities ● Amusement Perk | exploration mingle ● While the area hasn't officially been opened or secured, several residents have made efforts to develop the abandoned amusement park. Ava Orlova cleaned up the area a little and powered up one of the amusement park generators to run the ferris wheel for Laura Howlett, and Jim Kirk scouted the area to find the structures that could and couldn't be reclaimed. As of May 15, 2018 this mission is considered COMPLETE. The Amusement Park is cleared out, secured, cleaned up, and is fully operational. The Government will be holding a fun little contest to name the park!
● Why'd it Have to be Snakes?? ● submission thread ● Tony and Cisco, while fixing up the relay station, had to rid a room full of important equipment of snakes. They managed to do so and made significant progress towards getting the amusement park up and running.
● Hot Springs Episode ● mission thread ● Aecinos Ixocia lead a team to the abandoned hot springs near the amusement park, where the team cleared the area of monsters. After the area was cleared and secured, Aoba Seragaki used his mechanical skills to get the electrical and plumbing systems running. As of May 15, 2018, the Hot Springs are cleared out, secured, cleaned up, and fully operational.
objective iii: agricultural expansion
This objective is related to expanding the overall size of the city to encompass new areas that are fertile for farming and making the Quarantine more self-sustaining. This means finding areas that are worth expanding to and then clearing and securing those areas for the move.
● Fertile Ground ● Original Mission | Follow-Up ● Ronan Lynch and a team headed out into a fertile area outside the fence to collect soil samples, and were attacked by giant wild alien-hogs. After the samples were analyzed, Will Graham and a team went out to investigate further and discovered the area is fertile because it is the highly-intelligent alien-hogs' burial ground. The government is still undecided on how to handle the situation.
objective iv: city safety
This objective is related to ensuring that the current inhabitants of the city are safe from monsters, environmental problems, or other issues that might threaten them. It includes checking out weird happenings in the forests, monster research, and rescue missions.
● Mystery Transmission ● mission thread | Aerial Survey & Exploration Unit Info Page ● Jim Kirk and a team headed out into the abandoned city to track down the source of a mysterious transmission. Upon reaching the source, they found an abandoned shuttle partially buried in a hole in the ground. After excavating and getting the shuttle back to the Inhabited City, he and Poe Dameron repaired the shuttle and started an aerial exploration unit of the Perimeter Guard.
● Don't Wake the Deity ● mission thread ● After a rash of nightmares and other disturbing experiences in those sensitive to such things, Chloe Decker and a team discovered the source - a temple where a sleeping deity had been accidentally wakened. While benevolent, the deity was causing the rash of nightmares. The team put the deity back to sleep with magic, and blockaded the temple so the deity could not be further disturbed.
● What Lies Beneath ● Exploration Mingle ● After some serious flooding at the banks of the river, the cause was discovered to be the Guardians of the Deep, creatures protecting a circular labyrinthine structure underneath the river. Residents of the city explored and mapped the structure, and dealt with a good portion of the traps and other dangers, until they found a little piece of history in the Central Chamber of the structure, revealing that it was inhabited by the first people to live on the moon.
● Captivity ● Exploration Mingle ● Following the exploration of the structure under the river, citizens start going missing, starting with small children until adults are disappearing as well. The missing people have been captured by a group of cultists who worship the First People and have been planning to sacrifice the captives in an effort to offer their bodies to the spirits of the First People so they can return. A rescue mission is mounted once the captives get a message out, and they are rescued after a confrontation.
objective v: exploration
This is for exploration that is done for exploration's sake rather than a particular objective. This type of exploration is valued just as highly as exploration for a purpose.
● Abandoned Hospital ● Cisco Ramon and Rey discovered an abandoned warehouse outside the Inhabited City that had been used as a makeshift hospital during the plague. Later, Cisco and Beverly Crusher returned with a small team of medics who retrieve files and some mysterious research samples.
While the mod will mostly update the page based on completed missions on the exploration page and the monthly exploration mingles, any player who runs a player plot or does a solo mission related to any of the above objectives can use the code in the textbox below to submit the character or team's discovery to be added to the page!
