riverview: exploration
Exploration is an important part of the culture of Riverview Quarantine. With a population mostly comprised of pioneers and people seeking a new lease on life, there is definitely a big interest in branching out and rediscovering lost parts of the city or scouting out new places to expand to. Anyone is welcome to explore at any time, and to request a member of the Perimeter Guard to accompany them on the exploratory mission if they do not have a capable fighter on the team to protect the explorers.
At any given time, there will be several things going on either in the abandoned part of the city or outside the city walls that require investigation. Current missions can be found in the comments below.
● Each mission has a cause, an objective, and may have requirements for how many characters and what skillsets are needed to complete the task.
● Once you have chosen a mission you would like your character to complete, leave a comment on the mission to let the mod and other players know that the mission is in progress.
● Arrange your team, plan the mission, and thread it out.
● Once you have threaded at least to the point of reaching the objective, link the thread and give a quick summary of the mission outcome in a second comment and the mod will consider the mission complete. Each completed mission will be replaced with a new active mission.
● Each mission has many possible outcomes. Which outcome happens is completely up to the players involved. The only real limit is if you would like a mission to have a catastrophic outcome that would drastically affect the functioning of the game, in which case, please contact the mod first.
● All participants in the mission will receive the applicable Activity Point bonuses for the mission once they have submitted it to the Activity Bonus Rewards page.
Players are more than welcome to suggest or outline a mission of their own creation, for their own use or for others. Just fill out the info in the text box, post it in a reply to this entry and the mod will approve it or, if necessary, tweak it a little. Once approved, all of the above points can be followed as usual.
Mission: Mystery Transmission
● Objective: To follow the signal to its source with specialized equipment and find out whether it is a distress signal, an important piece of abandoned technology, or something else entirely.
● Dangers: Besides the usual environmental dangers of traveling for several days by land into the Abandoned City, including monsters and other dangers, there is heavy speculation that whatever is sending the signal is super haunted. Additionally, some caving may be required to reach the signal source.
● Requirements: One or more characters with scientific knowledge (computer and technology related), one or more characters with medical skills, one or more characters with spiritual or magical ability in case of haunting. Optional, but helpful would be any character with experience with climbing, rafting, or otherwise navigating rough terrain. At least three to four members of the Perimeter Guard or characters who are skilled fighters for protection. Optionally, characters to help carry supplies or drive vehicles.

COMPLETE
As the group reaches the delta, they try to follow the signal and eventually realize that it's coming from somewhere beneath the ground. After extensive search for an entry point, they find a deep hole leading downwards to pitch black, and Jim and Poe both rappel down to find out what's there. Eventually reaching the bottom, they resume following the signal, and come across a shuttle partly buried in rock and rubble. The signal is weak and intermittent, as the shuttle's systems aren't working to their full capacity, but with some slow and careful work, the team manages to dig the shuttle out, then Jim and Poe get the auxiliary systems to kick into shape. While not perfect, it's enough for them to fly the ship out of the cave and back to the perimeter guard with the rest of the team and all their supplies, despite a very bumpy ride. Since then Jim has been working on fixing up the shuttle, and (as discussed before) will want to set up a perimeter guard branch related to shuttle exploration.
The log is still ongoing and Jim and Poe are currently touching the ground of the cave. If you'd like to wait until they're farther along I don't mind, I just wanted to see if this was good enough for the mission to be wrapped up, so I could do more things with the shuttle, the guard and moon exploration. (I'm impatient, okay.)
COMPLETE
Please feel free to go ahead with more plotting with the shuttle. I'm sorry again that it took me so long to respond. You can definitely assume that Jim's been working on the shuttle and setting things up in the meantime.

I was thinking of setting up an info post on Jim's journal about the shuttle and that branch of the perimeter guard, so it could be linked on the perimeter guard page so anyone interested in joining in could check it out, would this be okay? Is there anything else you'd like me to do for this? Also, once I have that post up, would you rather I link it here, the perimeter guard page, or PM you?
