riverview: exploration

exploration

Exploration is an important part of the culture of Riverview Quarantine. With a population mostly comprised of pioneers and people seeking a new lease on life, there is definitely a big interest in branching out and rediscovering lost parts of the city or scouting out new places to expand to. Anyone is welcome to explore at any time, and to request a member of the Perimeter Guard to accompany them on the exploratory mission if they do not have a capable fighter on the team to protect the explorers.

At any given time, there will be several things going on either in the abandoned part of the city or outside the city walls that require investigation. Current missions can be found in the comments below.

how to claim and complete a mission

● Each mission has a cause, an objective, and may have requirements for how many characters and what skillsets are needed to complete the task.

● Once you have chosen a mission you would like your character to complete, leave a comment on the mission to let the mod and other players know that the mission is in progress.

● Arrange your team, plan the mission, and thread it out.

● Once you have threaded at least to the point of reaching the objective, link the thread and give a quick summary of the mission outcome in a second comment and the mod will consider the mission complete. Each completed mission will be replaced with a new active mission.

● Each mission has many possible outcomes. Which outcome happens is completely up to the players involved. The only real limit is if you would like a mission to have a catastrophic outcome that would drastically affect the functioning of the game, in which case, please contact the mod first.

● All participants in the mission will receive the applicable Activity Point bonuses for the mission once they have submitted it to the Activity Bonus Rewards page.

mission creation

Players are more than welcome to suggest or outline a mission of their own creation, for their own use or for others. Just fill out the info in the text box, post it in a reply to this entry and the mod will approve it or, if necessary, tweak it a little. Once approved, all of the above points can be followed as usual.

Just to be clear: Regardless of the number of teams, this mission only pertains to one species of 'monster' to be potentially domesticated, correct?

I am definitely down to have Jason be one of Ronan's guards. :)

In that case, I'd like to reserve this as well! Sieglinde of Catarina, Steve Rogers (616), 2B, and Morgan Knight are gonna be taming some weird animals. They're all fighters and most have experience dealing with animals (mostly horses).

Mission: Pride of Pestilence (submission)

[personal profile] redoublement 2017-04-10 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Cause: A pride of wild saber toothed, lion-like creatures have infiltrated the breach in the secondary perimeter fence, and have been feeding on farm animals and the occasional domestic pet. There is concern that these beasts could develop a taste for human flesh as well.

Objective: To contain the creatures, and either eliminate, or capture and rehabilitate the creatures to a safer locale. They may also prove useful in other regards, provided one has the skills necessary.

Dangers: These oversized cat-like hybrids are extremely powerful and fast. They also seem to possess slightly above average intelligence, and are wary and defensive over what they consider their 'territory.'

Requirements: A minimum of three Perimeter Guards or characters who are skilled fighters; one optional scientifically minded individual to observe and record this new species' habits; one optional character who is good with animals.

NOTE: Please forgive Dee's poor art skills. Females of this lion/hyena/bull hybrid do not possess manes, and instead have a mohawk, and larger fangs. They are the primary hunters in their pride, similar to regular lions. Females are also larger than males, though males are far more territorial and violent. Unlike lions, there are usually more than one male present.

Hello! The following characters are on this mission (one of which is an animal tamer*, another is a monster tracker/hunter**, and another still is an actual monster***... for whatever good that does) - the party consists of the following: Gladio**, Sans***, Suigetsu*, Eichi, Sasuke, McCree.

What are the monsters they will face and are able to be tamed? :D

Hi there! I was wondering if I could suggest a monster species for this mission? I dug around pinterest and thought this one looked pretty cool. Let me know what you think!

For this mission I opted for Chocobos as the tamable animal, with a Behemoth for fighting or running from... we'll see how it goes XD

THIS LOOKS COOL THOUGH. This is such a menacing looking beast!

Mission complete

[personal profile] somnioergosum 2017-05-10 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Verdict: super fertile and also super monster-boar infested

Summary: Our intrepid team shows up at the location. Just as Ronan finishes collecting the samples (which he can tell are going to make great plants), they're attacked by giant wild alien-hogs. They get their butts kicked. Ronan accidentally brings back a dream creature that also gets its butt kicked. They get in the truck and high tail it back, defeated but with their sample. (So not worth it.)

Complete

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-05-15 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Or, at least, mostly complete.

Summary: They actually found this crazy healing spring out in the jungle. They kept a map as they went, so taking their path, it takes about 3-4 days with vehicles to reach it, though the jungle does become too thick for vehicles about a day out from the spring, requiring the party to go the rest of the way on foot. On the way close to the spring are dangerous, living rock golems that must be snuck around or dealt with. The spring itself is surrounded by sleep-inducing, strangling, man-eating vines. The water does have healing properties (Loki's magical analysis determined that no, it isn't evil, and yes it heals, and Yuri sticking his arm in determined that it accelerates healing drastically), and Michael took samples to bring back to the labs. Unfortunately, about a week removed from the spring, the water loses its potency, though further testing will need to be done to determine why.

Mission: Lost Children (submission)

[personal profile] bespredel 2017-05-16 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Cause: A handful of children between the ages of six to seventeen have inexplicably gone missing into the jungle. Witnesses claim to have heard some sort of mournful tune accompanying these disappearances.

Objective: To locate the source of the music, as well as to discover where the lost children have been taken. And, if possible, recover them safely.

Dangers: There is a bird-like creature whose song hypnotizes and resonates with those younger than seventeen. Any below this age are subject to the animal's song. This creature is also extremely territorial to those immune to it's song, and will defend itself by any means available to it. Additionally, the jungle itself is often a danger.

Requirements: At least three members of Search and Rescue; at most, an additional one to two skilled volunteers familiar with first aid or self defense, able to carry supplies.

sneakily sneaks Cain in here

He'd be good for communicating with the civilization, being an extra hand, meat shield and immune to disease. Nice for first contact!
