riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

Sample Applications: Ronan Lynch (Canon Character; Written Background), Yuuri Katsuki (Canon Character; CRAU), Derek Hale (Canon Character; CRAU), Tolemi Pagoda (Original Character), Benjamin Holt (Original Character)

prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)

alex karamazov | original character | unreserved

[personal profile] ambitionist 2017-08-14 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
player information
name: ruthi
age: 28
contact: [plurk.com profile] ruthnor
other characters: poe dameron!

character information
name: Alex Karamazov
canon: OC from D&D Urban Arcana
canon point: after going on the run to Japan; before being recruited by the Knights
age: 30

(original) world: here

abilities:
Alex can manipulate a person's physical well-being, for lack of better phrasing. Mainly, he can inflict damage to someone or heal injuries just by touching the person. This also extends to nerve manipulation like temporarily causing blindness or deafness, or spontaneously causing orgasms. (w/e you know you would if you could too.) He takes damage whenever he uses this ability, though, sometimes but not always equivalent to the severity of what he caused. Example: healing someone of a stab wound has given him severe internal bleeding before, while turning off someone's sensation of touch for a couple minutes just gave him a migraine. Most of the blowback he experiences tends to be brain-related; notably, he has a history of seizures.

strengths:
+ For one thing, he's extremely loyal. His loyalty is hard to earn, because he's a very guarded person, but once that loyalty is won, he'll go to any means to protect the people he cares about. All like … three of them. Maybe.
+ Alex's other defining trait, if not his loyalty, is his ambition. He's very good at sussing out what any given person is best at and using that information to achieve an end. Which serves him mostly as a fixer, but look if his life were more Game of Thrones, he'd be a stellar tactician.
+ He's also a realist. When things get messy, he's not afraid to do things that may seem "ruthless" to protect him and his own. Tough decisions scare him 0 percent. Sacrificing one for the many? Yeah that's fine.

weaknesses:
+ Sometimes he is too ambitious. Being willing to do anything to achieve a goal means sometimes he does awful things without thinking that would not have happened if he had taken the time to think of an alternate way. See: basically his entire life.
+ He can be incredibly self-destructive. This mostly manifests in the ways he uses his ability — with little regard for the way it will affect him later down the line. He's embraced that he'll probably die from it, so at some point he stopped caring what would happen. He's also a bit of a self-saboteur when it comes to matters of the heart — blocking off anyone that even attempts to get to close to him is one of his favorite pastimes.
+ He is also SO angry. He's been cultivating that anger like a fine wine since he was eight years old towards all the injustice in the world, it's only gotten more hideous and intense with time. Through lots of different coping skills, it only manifests in destroying inanimate objects, but at any given moment he is probably angry about 55 things.

job skills (optional): he's a good leader, not exactly a soldier but knows his way around a fight, but most of his skills are at analyzing other people. a+ at tactics.

housing (optional): not communal; he is way too much of a princess for that.

Fall-From-Grace | Planescape: Torment

[personal profile] seductless 2017-08-16 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
player information
name: Gray
age: 30+
contact: [plurk.com profile] talkincodes
other characters: Tony Stark (MCU)

character information
name: Fall-From-Grace
canon: Planescape: Torment
canon point: Post game
age: 1000+

(canon) background: wiki

abilities:
Priest: Grace is an 11th Level Priest under AD&D 2e rules, with a primary focus in healing. Her spells list can be found here. She also has a Lore specialization and can identify magical objects.

Succubus: As a Lesser Tanar'ri, Grace can polymorph into any humanoid creature of similar height and weight, communicate telepathically regardless of language barriers, and fly. She can also drain energy through physical contact and her kiss is fatal.

strengths:

Communication: Grace's greatest strength is her conversational skill, she's repeatedly noted to be an eloquent and persuasive speaker, and an insightful conversationalist. Her creativity with words and ways to use them is also what won her freedom from slavery. She's also generally happy to share whatever knowledge she has with those interested to learn.

Compassion: Grace cares about people, to the point where it is noted to be a weakness for her. Even for those who automatically distrust and dislike her, Grace makes a point to treat the fairly. And not only does she specialize in healing, but she happily acts as a mentor for young women looking to join the Society of Sensation, helping them to learn and find their ways in the multiverse.

Adventurous: A member of the Sensates, a faction that believes in understanding the multiverse by experiencing as much of it as possible, Grace has taken that philosophy a step farther into something that is essentially a religion for her. She wants to learn more about everything and is always eager for new experiences.

weaknesses:

Fiend: Despite her choices, Grace is inherently a creature of pure chaos and evil and has the capability to be (and has been in the past) extremely dangerous. It makes her incredibly and understandably untrustworthy to anyone who knows exactly what she is. It also means that she has a racial aversion to touching metal, particularly cold iron.

Distant: As caring as she can be, Grace also holds herself back from getting truly close to others. Even with people she's fond of, Grace prefers to be an elegant mystery, keeping her personal thoughts and secrets to herself.

Tormented: Denying one's intrinsic nature is no easy thing, and Grace has lived with the pain it causes for hundreds of years. And that was after a thousand or so years spent as a slave to hated enemies. If she seems calm and unflappable, it's mostly through the control she's learned to have over herself.

job skills (optional): Skilled healer. Grace has also been a mentor for prospective members of her Faction and is the former madame of an entirely chaste brothel.
housing (optional): Private, please

network username: ladygrace

network sample:
[The screen flicks on to nothing for a long moment before a flash of blonde hair and a tan, batlike wing come into view. What little can be seen of Grace's face shows a small but delighted smile.]

I am told this is some sort of communication device. Quite clever, isn't it?

[The image shifts again to show more of her, though it's still at a slight angle.]

If I am indeed speaking to someone, I would be gratified to know what plane we're currently on? It feels as though it might be the Prime Material, but that is very much not the sort of thing I would like to get wrong.

prose/action sample:

Fall-From-Grace was no stranger to portals, though finding them on the Lower Planes was slightly more unusual. Centuries of living in the City of Doors meant that unexpectedly finding herself somewhere else was more of an annoyance than a worry. Maybe more of an annoyance than usual, given the task she'd undertaken with all the determination she had. She'd promised to find him, no matter where in the Blood War he'd ended up. It was not a promise she intended to break.

But. If anyone would understand the variances of the multiverse, it was a former immortal. And Grace could admit to herself that the lure of experiencing an entirely new place could not be denied. It seemed she was stuck here, no matter how much she might wish otherwise. All that was left, then, was to try and enjoy the situation while she found herself within it. If nothing else, spending all of her time wishing otherwise would get her nowhere.

So then, it fell to her to explore her new surroundings to the best of her abilities. Not an unpleasant directive, for all the warnings she had been given regarding what lingered outside the walls. Perhaps she would see for herself what was out there, eventually. For the time being, she was content to investigate the more civilized sections of this strange new world.

Steve Trevor | DC Extended Universe

player information
name: Ricks
age: 29
contact: [plurk.com profile] extreminator; PM
other characters: James T. Kirk » Star Trek AOS

character information
name: Steven Rockwell Trevor
canon: DC Extended Universe
canon point: post-Wonder Woman (2017)
age: 30-35 years old (canon doesn't specify, I usually go with 32)

background: Wonder Woman (2017) @ DC Wiki
• on an undercover mission, Steve steals a notebook filled with formulas from Doctor Maru, who had been working on a deadlier form of mustard gas
• fleeing from Axis forces on an airplane, he crash lands on Themyscira, though he is followed by some troops; the island is invaded and the Amazons suffer some casualties
• he leaves Themyscira to go back to London, and Diana goes with him
• he informs command of the deadly gas and Ludendorff's plans (the man to whom Dr. Maru answers to), but they are focused on achieving peace by negotiating an armistice
• believing Ludendorff will use the gas anyway, Steve assembles a small team of people to go to the Belgian front and stop him
• getting to Ludendorff's weapons facility involves crossing the German trenches, and Diana takes the lead in the charge, giving them cover
• they take the trenches and the small town of Veld nearby
• the group enjoy the small respite of one night of drinking and celebration, and as they learn that there's a gala in a castle nearby, where Ludendorff and Dr. Maru will be present, Steve masks himself as a German officer to get into the gala
• He tries to charm Dr. Maru into telling him more about her work, as well as show her some of the research, but becomes distracted when Diana walks into the gala, and Dr. Maru isn't convinced by Steve's move
• he stops Diana from killing Ludendorff, whom she believes is the god of war Ares, and soon after Ludendorff gives orders to bomb Veld, the small town they had just saved, with the deadly gas
• she's mad at Steve and accuses him of being to blame for what happened
• while she storms the nearby factory to kill Ludendorff, Steve and the rest of their team also infiltrate the facilities and find an airplane fully loaded with the poisonous gas
• to prevent the Axis forces from dropping the load in London and killing millions, Steve hijacks the airplane and takes it high enough into the sky before shooting the gas bombs, detonating the cargo and sacrificing himself in the process

abilities: Steve is a military aviator, part of the Aviation Section, Signal Corps— a predecessor to the modern US Air Force. As such, he's a skilled pilot and marksman, with extensive experience with all sorts of airplanes (in his time, at least), and a number of firearms. He's also a skilled fighter, with hand-to-hand combat experience. To add to this, he's a spy, and a special agent in service of the British Intelligence. He's got a number of unique abilities related to that, such as lying, acting and subterfuge if need be, and he can also speak a number of languages. He has experience going undercover and assuming all kinds of distinct and different identities.

strengths: Having been a soldier for a good portion of his life, Steve is strong and resilient, easily adaptable to all kinds of new and different circumstances he finds himself in. Especially having had training and experience as a spy, he manages to settle and act comfortable even behind enemy lines, and assumes different identities with relative ease, if only to keep himself from being found out.

He’s focused and determined, and when he has an objective, he’ll do what he must to achieve his goal. However, he is a caring and honorable man, who will defend those in danger and won’t intentionally do harm for any cause.

He’s confident in his own skills, and he’s not often the kind to hesitate or doubt himself, particularly during stressful or dangerous situations. When it comes down to it, he’s a noble and brave man, who will promptly throw himself into danger and sacrifice himself if that means saving other people or stopping something horrible from happening. If nothing else, the way in which he chooses to end his life makes him a true hero— even if he wouldn't call himself that.

weaknesses: Likely a product of his time, Steve can be a little awkward and easy to embarrass. While he wouldn’t consider himself a prude, he is still a man from the early 20th century, and certain topics will leave him flustered and floundering. While he can often act confident and comfortable, that doesn’t mean he feels that way, particularly around people he doesn’t know.

His role as a spy in the war has made him a rather secretive man, and he’s grown used to lying and keeping information to himself, at times even when he doesn’t need or have to. He’s very reserved, which makes it a little difficult to truly get to know him, and it may take a conscious effort on his part to really show and share himself. He’s somewhat impatient, even if his training has ingrained into him how to bide his time in certain situations. He doesn’t always care about rules, and will disobey a direct order without hesitation if he feels he has cause to do it, something that makes him rather wilful at times.

Although he fights for what he believes in and thinks is right, he’s seen quite a lot in his life, particularly during the war. Over the years, he’s become skeptical and disillusioned, with mankind at large, and particularly what some people are capable of. While he is somewhat discontented with the state of the world and discouraged by the conflict in his time, he still fights, as he believes that it’s not about people deserving that help or protection, but about doing the right thing regardless of that.

job skills (optional): If possible I'd rather he not be placed in a job right away, as he'd prefer looking around and choosing for himself.
housing (optional): Preferably either private or shared housing.

No worries! I was trying so hard to keep it under 300 I tried too hard lmfao. Hope this works!

strengths:
For one thing, he's extremely loyal. His loyalty is hard to earn, because he's a very guarded person, but once that loyalty is won, he'll go to any means to protect the people he cares about. All like … three of them. Maybe. (Spoilers: the three people are his sisters. He cares a lot about his family. Sure, he'll choose himself every time, but against literally any other person they would win. He would do the dumbest shit for them and not even blink. Pancakes at 2 AM? Going to see Frozen as a grown ass adult? It's whatever. He tries really hard to be tough all the time but around the right people he's a giant soft-ass nerd.)

Alex's other defining trait, if not his loyalty, is his ambition. He's a hard worker, uh, maybe a workaholic, but he'll do anything to get ahead. He's very good at sussing out what any given person is best at and using that information to achieve an end. Which serves him mostly as a fixer, but look if his life were more Game of Thrones, he'd be a stellar tactician. He's good at picking up on social cues and is coincidentally a really great liar..

He's also a realist. When things get messy, he's not afraid to do things that may seem "ruthless" to protect him and his own. Tough decisions scare him 0 percent. Sacrificing one for the many? Yeah that's fine. Some of his friends would maybe treat this more like a negative, because it can make him come off as cold, but when it comes down to it he's a survivor. He's endured a lot of bullshit in his life, and managed to repress it come out like a cat landing on its feet.

weaknesses:
Sometimes he is too ambitious. Being willing to do anything to achieve a goal means sometimes he does awful things without thinking that would not have happened if he had taken the time to think of an alternate way. See: basically his entire life.

He can be incredibly self-destructive. This mostly manifests in the ways he uses his ability — with little regard for the way it will affect him later down the line. He's embraced that he'll probably die from it, so at some point he stopped caring what would happen. But also like … he's not stellar at taking care of himself. He's like a stray cat. He gets by okay on his own but probably should not.

He's also a bit of a self-saboteur when it comes to matters of the heart — blocking off anyone that even attempts to get to close to him is one of his favorite pastimes. Not just relationships, either. Friendships, acquaintances, whatever. He blames having to deal with his mom after his dad's death as why he'd rather get a root canal than deal with a long-term relationship, but he's like that with EVERYONE. Maybe because ~oh no I will die any day now~ but more likely he just has issues with rejection.

He is also SO angry. He's been cultivating that anger like a fine wine since he was eight years old towards all the injustice in the world, it's only gotten more hideous and intense with time. Through lots of different coping skills, it only manifests in destroying inanimate objects, but at any given moment he is probably angry about 55 things.

He keeps everything inside, it doesn't just apply to anger. And as you can imagine, all that compartmentalizing works real well until it doesn't.

character information
name: Diana of Themyscira
canon: DC Extended Universe
canon point: Wonder Woman (2017) — Near the beginning of the film, when she embarks on her quest to find Ares. From one new adventure to another!
age: SHE'S SUPER OLD... Like thousands of years.

(canon) background:
Her wiki links are here and here!

The year is 1918, and a dangerous war rages on. World War I, to be precise. The daughter of Queen Hippolyta, Diana was raised on the island of Themyscira. This island, concealed from the outside world, is the home of the Amazons, a group of warrior women created to protect humanity.

One day, a plane crashes along the coast of the island, and Diana rescues the pilot, Captain Steve Trevor. After an extensive battle with a group of soldiers that chased after Steve, he reveals that he's on an undercover mission to deliver important information. Secrets that can help win the war. Inspired by this stranger's account of all the countless lives lost and those still in danger, Diana decides to accompany him to his destination. She believes that Ares, the god of destruction, is culpable for the carnage, and she won't stop until she fulfills her mission of defeating him and restoring peace to mankind.

(original) world: N/A

abilities:
Enhanced Physiology: Unbeknownst to Diana at her current canon point, she is a demigod, and her father is Zeus himself. Thus, as an immortal being, she has abilities beyond a typical Amazon. Essentially, she has enhanced physiology; she's built much "harder, better, faster, stronger" than the average human. She has supernatural strength, enhanced speed and agility, and enhanced durability. As a result, while she's not indestructible, Diana can tolerate the pain and exhaustion of physical combat without much effort.

Combat Skills: Diana is also a skilled fighter, compliments of her training on Themyscira. She was trained alongside the most gifted warriors on her island, learning how to fight with a sword and a shield, among other weapons.

strengths:
Compassion: Diana is perhaps the epitome of the trait. She deeply values empathy and kindness, and she shows compassion to everyone. Her mission in the film is to destroy Ares in order to restore peace for mankind. Despite her mother's warning that humanity does not deserve her, she believes in the ultimate benevolence of other people and trusts that everyone is decent and good. Even when she becomes disillusioned later and doubts this vehement belief, Diana learns that mankind should be protected, not because they deserve it but because it's simply the right thing to do.

Determination: Diana is committed to helping others and saving mankind, which is an objective she never surrenders. She's incredibly stubborn and independent, willing to stand up for what she believes in without hesitation. Not only does she resist Ares when he asks her to join him, but she also defies her mother and Steve when their principles clash with her own. As she emphasizes in the film, "What I do is not up to you." She follows her heart and trusts her instincts, regardless of what anyone else says. For example, when Steve pleads with her to not advance in No Man's Land, she doesn't listen. Instead, she continues on without skipping a beat, regardless of any danger to herself. "Impossible" is simply not a word in Diana's vocabulary.

Curiosity: Diana is constantly curious, finding joy and astonishment in novel experiences. Whether it's seeing an adorable child or sampling ice cream for the first time. She holds limitless wonder and excitement, and she's happy to share this enthusiasm with others. Diana's curiosity is also demonstrated by her intellect, and she is quite scholarly in her own right. At Themyscira, she kept herself as informed as possible by reading all the literature her island possessed.

weaknesses:
Naivety: While Diana is far from ignorant, she is quite sheltered, and thus can be naive. Although her mother had good intentions in wanting to protect her, Hippolyta isolated her from the outside world, simply telling her that mankind does not deserve her and trying to prevent her from ever leaving their paradise. Diana lives by a code of truth and honor, which is why she's quick to presume that the reason for the war is Ares. She can't imagine that human beings would purposely deceive and harm each other, and as a result, her innocent and good heart can blind her.

Judgment: Due to her naivety, she can be quick to judge at times. When she discovers that someone else has lied to her, she reacts poorly. Diana believes so strongly in the goodness of mankind, and when this unwavering faith is undermined, she's shaken. Any injustice, no matter how small, resonates strongly with her. Whether this is in the form of something as egregious as murder or something less extreme, such as social norms with which she disagrees. Thus, she's unafraid to speak her mind and inform others that she disapproves of their actions.

Tenacity: While Diana's unyielding determination also serves as a strength, she's often stubborn to a fault. Her perspective of morality is considerably black-and-white, at first, and even though she grows throughout the film, she still does not fully grasp the shades of gray. Or the risks and repercussions of her obstinacy. While she adores her mother, she rejects Hippolyta's desire to protect her, telling her without room for argument that she must leave home. Even if she faces potential death. She behaves similarly with Steve, and when he attempts to prevent her from pursuing her mission, she boldly defies him at every turn.

job skills (optional): I'd prefer if she wasn't assigned a job for the moment, please!
housing (optional): If possible, placing her on the same floor as Steve Trevor would be ideal. Thank you!

-- Occlumency: Draco excels at and has a natural talent for Occlumency, which is shielding his mind from mental intrusion. Given his raising and ability to 'shutdown' emotion and compartmentalize.
-- Potions: Given his intelligence as well as relatively close relationship with his Potions Master, Severus Snape, Draco not only holds a keen interest in potions, but a good bit of knowledge in it. While he had no need for work and was not actively wishing to become a Potions Master, he still improves upon his knowledge and could easily become a Potion's Master.

strengths:
-- Etiquette: Draco has the social know-how, vocabulary and mannerisms of the upper crust. He can be unerringly polite and is able to engage in verbal sparring. He is in his element in social situations and can maneuver easily, knowing the 'song and dance' of them all too well.
-- Familial Love & Loyalty: In this, no one can fault him. His love is strong and pure when it comes to his family. Able to acknowledge the faults of his parents, and yet still able to love them and continue to be loyal, even if more realistic in it these days.
-- Unicorn Core: Despite his best attempts in trying to save his family from a madman, Draco still exhibits a soul worthy of wielding a wand with a Unicorn Hair core. He has taken no life, tortured no poor soul. Despite the duality of darkness within, he is still largely 'innocent' in comparison to other marked Death Eaters. This fact is more often than not his saving grace and what is allowing him to grow from being a hate filled and spiteful boy into a more accepting man.
weaknesses:
-- Judgemental: No matter the strides Draco is making in the aftermath of the war, he will always be the product of his raising. There will always be a part of him that judges those around him. So while he largely pulls away from the purist views and stances, he is still Draco Malfoy. He still thinks himself a step above most.
-- Arrogant: Likewise, this will never fully disappear. Raised to think himself above all others, it is too ingrained within him. Draco simply cannot help himself.
-- Vanity: Draco takes meticulous care of his appearance. Born from earlier years of trying to emulate his father and being under his mother's careful grooming, it is simply not something easy shaken off. While he is largely his own creature now, this care for his appearance still shows. It is also highly indicative of his mental state, as the level and kind of care in his appearance is an unwitting window into his soul. It also is something that can be used to make him uncomfortable or anxious. You want to upset him? turn his hair a different color, use it up, or toss him in a muddy puddle. (Or mention how much like a ferret he looks.)
-- Duality: Draco is not all innocence, sunshine and rainbows. Unicorns do not prance about in his dreams. Draco is his father's son and was raised with Purist ideology. He is the son of a Death Eater, and was a Death Eater himself. He's seen horrible things, been put into a horrible situation set up for the purpose of him failing and so torturing his father with the knowledge there was, supposedly, no way his son could achieve this task. As task he could not complete in the end, yes, but he tried time and time again. The darkness is there, it is just that the light shines a bit brighter. He is not a nice person, he is not soft and fuzzy on the inside. He sneers and makes snide comments, his humor often sarcastic and sometimes cutting. Even, at times, taking a dark turn to his humor. His views teeter back and forth between optimism and pessimism. Anger, guilt and melancholy are things often suppressed and shut down within himself, shoved away and not addressed. He can be quite cold and disconnected in situations as well, given the right circumstances.
-- Competitive: Draco likes to win. He likes proving his superiority. Age and experience are lending well in providing caution in these things, but he is still a young adult, still greatly moved by impulse most of the time. He likes to compete, but he can also be a sore loser. He does not take loss well at all.

job skills (optional): Draco has never worked a day in his life. However, he has good social skills. He is also booksmart, quick to learn with proper motivation, and has a love for complex things and situations.
housing (optional): He would prefer solitary living. I am evil, though, and say if you want to toss him with other people then please, do so. I enjoy making him uncomfortable.

character information
name: Mordred
canon: Adapted from the legend of King Arthur
canon point: Modern day (that is, early 21st century)
age: Perpetual reincarnation puts him at 1500+ years old; his current incarnation is 38.

(canon) background:
Wikipedia entry for Mordred. This Mordred’s history is a composite of different “known” legends, plus some embellishment. Most people in his own world know a version of his story, but it’s never entirely the right one, and he doesn’t bother correcting them. Magic and supernatural elements feature far more heavily in his past than it does in most versions of the mythos, at least with regards to him personally.
(original) world:
Mordred was/is the son of Arthur Pendragon and Queen Anna (also known as Morgause) of Orkney, after Arthur deceived Anna into thinking that he was her husband, King Lot. Shortly after Mordred's birth, Merlin warned Arthur that the downfall of his kingdom would come at the hands of a child born on May Day, prompting Arthur to gather up all the infants born on May 1st and set them adrift in the sea, hoping they would drown. Anna petitioned the faerie enchantress Morgan le Fay to rescue her son; when the boat shipwrecked, all the infants aboard perished with the exception of Mordred, whom Morgana preserved to be raised in hiding among the druids and tutored in magic by Morgana herself. When Mordred was fourteen, he returned to his family and was sent by Lot to foster in the court of Camelot, where he eventually obtained a knighthood.
For his entire life, Mordred had voices in his ear from many sources. They helped him nurse a grudge against Arthur for trying to have him killed. They reminded him of the prophecy and a birthright which, according to his mother, made him the rightful heir to the throne of Britain. Mordred initially attempted to take control of the kingdom in Arthur's absence; upon Arthur's furious return, the battle of Camlann in the year 537 claimed both of their lives at each other's hands. (It is said by one author that, in the meantime, Mordred's rule was felt by the people to be one of "great joy and bliss".)
Adding insult to mortal injury, Merlin laid a vengeful curse upon Mordred at the moment of his death: unlike Arthur, who was carried away to Avalon, Mordred would never be able to rest, but would be reborn over and over again only to die a young and violent death with every incarnation. Such is the strength of the curse that in 1500 years Mordred has not been able to break it, and he has been shunned from Avalon and its people ever since. Mordred's lifespans tend to average at mid-twenties, and he's never lived to reach forty.

abilities:
Mordred is highly educated and well-traveled, with a past as a knight and a military leader (back when everyone was wearing armor and swinging swords), but his passion lies unequivocally in magic. He has a natural gift for it that has been augmented by 1500 years of study and exploration, resulting in him becoming an unparalleled sorcerer in his own world — but his forms of magic are also firmly rooted in that dimension, so to speak. They include the following:
  • offensive, defensive
  • elemental manipulation
  • astral projection
  • summoning/conjuring/banishment
  • spell casting (inc. curses, charms, enchantments, etc.)
  • illusions
  • transmutation
  • divination
  • shapeshifting
  • portals

These are the general categories of his abilities, along with an extremely extensive knowledge of mixtures and arcane rituals from various cultures. He also has a touch of fae blood, owing to the influence of his patroness Morgana, and knows the language of the Fair Folk (not that it does him much good now).
The limitations of Mordred's magic are the same as the limitations of a battery: sooner or later, the energy runs out and needs to be recharged (Mordred just happens to be a very large battery). The stronger the magic, the more concentration it requires for him to perform (elemental manipulation is especially taxing, considering the nature of elements) and the more it is likely to take out of him to do so. Shapeshifting in particular is also tricky because of the tendency for animal instinct to override human rationality if he maintains the shape for too long. Likewise, some spells and abilities are conditional upon things like necessary materials or circumstances.

strengths:
Tenacious. He is voracious in his pursuit of any particular goal and very devoted to knowledge in general. This applies most especially to the advancement of his ability, but he is always on the lookout for anything worth being interested in. And Mordred's tenacity breeds success.
Dedicated. Despite being one of the most famous traitors in history, Mordred is fiercely loyal when his faith is earned and likes to show off his powers to a worthwhile audience. He is extremely protective of his loved ones, on such occasion as they exist.
Patient. Whether it's in pursuit of those goals or just dealing with other people, Mordred can handle a lot without any ruffled feathers. He is also very patient in the sense that he has a complex relationship with the passage of time, and in some ways has plenty to spare.
weaknesses:
Resentful. History has demonstrated the depth of this particular weakness. If Mordred feels that he has been personally, deliberately wronged, that person has effectively severed any friendly connection that might have existed or come to exist between them. Although he is not necessarily a malicious person, by his own admittance he does not forgive or forget -- and he has a very, very long memory. Mordred actively struggles with this part of himself at times.
Indifferent. Whether due to bitterness or sheer longevity (it's both), Mordred is not a hero. Regardless of what his power might allow, he does not involve himself in the affairs of mankind at large any more than most supernatural entities do. He believes in letting events run their own course, and that people must live with the consequences of their decisions -- like he must -- no matter how catastrophic.
Self-absorbed. Mordred really does only think about himself, with very few and very rare exceptions. This is mostly habit after so long, but it's also a protective measure, and even a necessity in its own way; establishing relationships is extremely difficult when it can only end in pain, and people who know his story tend to judge him as a villain anyway. He lives and acts on his own terms, and while he is not unsympathetic, his motivations are usually selfish. Often, he's just looking for a way to relieve boredom.

job skills: Mordred is passionate about magic even when it's not his own and will immediately seek to study what other forms of it are present in Riverview, and to aid its evolution if possible (especially in novice magic users). He is aggressively inquisitive about new and unknown things and would also be eager to “see what’s out there,” so to speak. Lacking any specific available niche, he will happily carve out one for himself.
housing: He will seek privacy regardless of where he's placed, and will make efforts to find his own place as soon as possible.

Obi-Wan Kenobi | Star Wars

[personal profile] jedies 2017-08-23 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
player information
name: Timmy
age: 25+
contact: [plurk.com profile] captainkink
other characters: Jonathan Samuel Kent, Loki (MCU)

character information
name: Obi-Wan Kenobi
canon: Star Wars / The Clone Wars
canon point: After the episode The Big Bang
age: 37

(canon) background: Wiki

abilities:

The Force: As a Jedi Master, Obi-Wan has superlative control of the Force. He is able to sense unusual emotions and abilities. He often has moments of clarity where he can sense oncoming danger and guess people’s intentions with uncanny perceptiveness. He is also able to move himself and objects easily via telekinesis. He also can communicate and influence other living creatures.

Fighting Ability: Obi-Wan is considered to be one of the greatest lightsaber fighters in Jedi history, able to fight Sith Masters simultaneously and to a standstill with no great loss to himself. While he does not like to use blasters, he is a competent marksman and can manage hand-to-hand combat with ease. With the Force, his endurance and athletic ability is far higher than normal human beings.

Diplomacy: While he will never be a politician, Obi-Wan can hold his own in any statecraft debate and policy, easily maneuvering himself out of the most difficult of situations without raising a fist. Charming, smart and often duplicitous, the revered title of negotiator is earned several times over.

strengths:

Perseverance: Obi-Wan has had a rough life. He’s lost many people close to him and has been subjected to terrible horrors due to fighting a war. But despite how hard he has been pushed towards anger and despair, Obi-Wan has never budged from doing what is right. His mental strength is indisputable and while he can be shaken, he cannot be turned to doing what he feels is wrong.

Compassion: For Obi-Wan, any kind of loss hits him hard. His troops, his friends, the Jedi. Even people who are caught in the war would have Obi-Wan’s passionate defense. He is always willing to offer a helping hand, a warm shoulder and a quiet moment. Even when the stakes are high, Obi-Wan would do his best to aid those in need, even in the most desperate of times. Obi-Wan would never take a life unless it was absolutely necessary.

Confidence: Obi-Wan laughs in the face of danger. He looks at the worst fears with a grin and a song in his heart. He is never cowed, never fearful of the dark, never one to step back. His will is indomitable, even if he risks pain by sassing and criticizing his enemy, earning their ire twice over. Obi-Wan has complete belief in the Force and to some extent, his service to the Force. He does not falter for the Light.

weaknesses:

Pragmatism: While most people would easily get carried away or lose their head in trying situations, Obi-Wan tends to keep himself level at all times. However that means that Obi-Wan tends to downplay the feelings of others, often dismissing them with a carelessness that borders on rude and at times, cruel. Obi-Wan puts the bigger picture before everything else and people tend to find that difficult to accept about him.

Conservative: Raised as a Jedi all his life, Obi-Wan can be rather close-minded when it comes to new concepts. Stubborn and proud as a Jedi, he struggles to admit their problems and wrong-doings as it is the only life he has ever known. This makes him defensive and prone to look away to certain shortcomings that need more scrutiny than he’s willing to give. Solely devoted to the Jedi Code, Obi-Wan rarely entertains other possibilities.

Guilt: For all that Obi-Wan complains about Anakin’s recklessness, he isn’t much better. Obi-Wan has a tendency to neglect himself and push himself to the limit in order to achieve a favourable outcome. This comes from a strong sense of guilt and personal loss that he has suffered. After numerous setbacks, Obi-Wan continually questions himself and whether he could have done more. As such, his personal self and feelings suffer and he has a hard time looking positively at his victories.
