riverview: applications
Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.
Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.
● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.
Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.
● Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
● Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.
● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.
● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.
● Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.
● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15
● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.
● CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.
● CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.
● CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.
● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.
● Sample Applications: Ronan Lynch (Canon Character; Written Background), Yuuri Katsuki (Canon Character; CRAU), Derek Hale (Canon Character; CRAU), Tolemi Pagoda (Original Character), Benjamin Holt (Original Character)

● job skills (optional): if you would like your character to be placed in a job to start out, list three work-related skills so they can be assigned something suitable; this is different than the abilities section, and should only be three words or very short phrases - the character will not be placed in a job if there are no traits listed here; This is something that is asked in orientation, and would be volunteered by your character. But please feel free to specify if they have a skill they might not mention but that you would like considered in their job placement and I'll take it into consideration as a "funny coincidence."

● network sample: write out or link to an example of how your character would communicate over the network; this sample does not have to be long, but it must clearly show your character's personality and a good understanding of their voice; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)
● prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)
Please fill out the information in the form below and submit it in its entirety in one comment to this entry. If your application doesn't fit in one comment, it needs to be trimmed - application standards are weighted to quality rather than quantity.

● canon: Vikings

● age: 12
● (canon) background:

headcanon points
-Began learning to fight at age ten, after being bullied by two older boys
- Started learning to read from Athelstan, since it’s been a year within the time frame, her ability to read is at a first-grade reading level..
● abilities: Living on a farm, Gyda is able to take care of animals, and is fairly skilled at making and weaving with various forms of yarn and thread. Inline with the time period, she’s some skill of cookery and handywork, however the means she does this would be considered old fashioned by some.
Gyda’s also double jointed in her shoulders and elbows, able to twist her arms in near completely 360 degrees
● strengths:
Empathy- Of her family, Gyda is the most open and connects herself easier with those she meets. When Athelstan is first introduced, it’s easy for her to see how lonely and torn he is to be there, and she lets him tell stories about his strange god because it cheers him up, even if she does tease him about it, it’s only to make him laugh. Nor does she protest Siggy and Thyri joining their family, even after the latter’s husband was the one to hunt them down. Deep down, Gyda wishes to help those in her home to feel welcomed and safe.
Fortitude-Though not a warrior and barely a teenager, Gyda still displays a silent courage that belies most children her age. When faced with the threat of being killed or captured, she rarely screams or cries out, but does what it takes to get to safety, and when forced to live in hiding in a small shack, she doesn’t complain or wish for home, but places faith in her family and the gods. Far from naive about death, sickness and pain, Gyda is old enough to know that fear makes things worse and to give in would be dishonorable in a family of warriors.
Insightful-A trait inherited from her father, Gyda has a sense of perceptiveness that is often overlooked. Learning to take care of home and hearth, she’s able to pick person’s traits and habits to know if they’re not well, and try to urge them to take care of themselves. Likewise, it’s very easy for her to pick on the emotional state of either a person or environment, either in mannerism or signs, however she may or may not remark on what she observes unless she believes it will make a difference.
● weaknesses:
Inexperience-Even by the time standards, Gyda is still just reaching adulthood. While she’s able to take care of a household, she’s too young to take run it all by herself, especially one that doubles as a farmhouse or the household of an Earl. While she tells her uncle that she’s training to fight in the shieldwall, by her age she would’ve only been learning for two years, and being the only daughter, the pressure for her to learn to be a warrior is not nearly as great as it would be for her brother. All of which mean that Gyda is still too young to truly be on her own.
Stoicism-Perceptive and brave as she is, Gyda will only open up emotionally to close family or friends, and only if something is truly bothering her. Otherwise, she will keep her emotions to herself, not wishing to seem weak or wanting to bother others if there are more graver issues at play. Even more concerning is she will often downplay her own pain or illnesses, putting her at even more of a risk then she would if she were to get help of her own accord.
Dependance-While this goes with being a girl her age and in the time period, at no point has Gyda ever been separated from her family. Even in a culture that prefers sons and warriors, she was never made to feel inferior and always treasured and protected by her family, even her uncle, the berserker Rollo. She constantly worries about their safety and well being, even if she’s unable to do anything to help them. To be without them would leave her feeling lost, lonely and unsure of herself.
● job skills (optional): 'old-fashioned'cooking/baking skills, weaving/sewing and animal husbandry
● housing (optional): With permission from the respective player, once Gyda’s given the clear all from the clinic, I’d like her to be housed in Marco’s ‘home for warward teens’.
● network username: Ragnarsdottir
● network sample: [The video shows Gyda from her room, still appearing worn out, but her color's improved and she doesn't look nearly as ill. She's by the window and looking at in the scene before her. When the screen turns on, she nearly drops the camera.]
It does work![She waves at the camera, smiling a little as it captures her movements. Her voice is a little hoarse and every once and awhile she lets out a cough, but all it means is she's finally kicking the flu-well, that’s what they tell her.]
Hello, my name's Gyda, Ragnarsdottir. I'm twelve years old and I've been in this large city for a few days now-least I'm sure it's a few days. I want to say thank you to the healers in the clinic. They've been very helpful and I feel much better now then when I arrived in this strange land.
[She fiddles with the device, unsure if she's supposed to turn it off or not.]
● prose/action sample:
The past few days seemed all a blur, her waking in and out of sleep, seeing the same strangely dressed people coming in and out of the room they placed her in. They kept asking asking her things, and more prodding, having the strange stick in her mouth. Atleast they finally removed the needle somehow dripping fluids into her arm-the needle didn't hurt, but her arm was itchy and sore even when they took it out. The bright colored..things..they have her to swallow tasted terrible, but she did notice she felt a little better some time after taking them. She took them along with the different tasting liquids they gave her: she recognized the chicken soup, but other liquids were either overly sweet or tasted of herbs.
Her deepest worry in this case wasn’t the illness; that was a mere inconvenience by now. What scared her was that she was by herself, her only family being a brother she didn’t know. She’d never been without her family before and the thought of what would happen now hurt more than the illness she was just recovering from.
Her third day though, she woke up feel more alert than she'd been in days, even in Kattegat. After the usual 'check up' and being told that the fever had finally broken, the female healer said she'd only have to stay here a few more days to make sure she didn't get worse and hold down solid food. The last thing she did was show Gyda how to use the other box right by her bed, the one with the strange runes. The woman demonstrated that it controlled the black square just across from her bed, and to press the red circle, which caused an image to appear on the screen. Her eyes opened wide as she witnessed a scene of a boy and girl arguing with each other, but when she waved an arm and called to get their attention, she was told by the healer that the people weren't real, they were just images of a performance.
When she left, Gyda was still fiddling with the controls on the device, until it showed a man talking to someone as he was cooking. The whole of it didn't make sense, but it was entertaining, and above all it was distraction, something her mind craved more than than solid food..

Re: ACCEPTED
Would it be possible for gyda to get a tutor until next term? Her reading level is currently more at a first grade level than at her age and less for maths, so she’d be way behind her age group unless allowed to catch up.
