riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)

Please fill out the information in the form below and submit it in its entirety in one comment to this entry. If your application doesn't fit in one comment, it needs to be trimmed - application standards are weighted to quality rather than quantity.

Sieglinde of Catarina | Dark Souls | Not Reserved

player information
name: Gwiggs
age: 24

other characters: N/A

character information
name: Sieglinde of Catarina
canon: Dark Souls
canon point: Shortly after being captured by the crystal golem.
age: 17

(canon) background:
http://darksouls.wikia.com/wiki/Sieglinde_of_Catarina

This is all very bare-bones, but the gist of things is that Sieglinde is a young woman from the land of Catarina – a country known for it's drinks, festivities and the generally jolly, friendly nature that it's people tend to have. Sieglinde, like her father before her, has trained all her life to become one of her nation's proud knights.

Her life continued on as one might expect the life of a fresh-faced knight to go – a lot of training, mostly, with minor missions throughout the country alongside more experienced knights, to maintain peace and to aid the kingdom's people where necessary. Y'know, knight stuff.

All that changed, though, when her father, Siegmeyer, came under the curse of the undead. Undead, in Sieglinde's world, are not well-liked by the still-human, and so he was forced to leave the knighthood.

In many countries, undead are rounded up and sent to the undead Asylum – but this was not the case for Siegmeyer. He was able to keep his weapon and his armor, so it can be safely assumed that he either escaped capture or was simply exiled rather than arrested. Regardless of how he managed to keep his freedom, however, the end result was the same. Siegmeyer went to the place that most undead end up going: Lordran.

As all this happened, Sieglinde mourned him, sure that she would never see him again. He had been a great knight, as well as a kind and loving father, and the primary reason she had become a knight in the first place. Still, she carried on with her life as best as she could.

...until a few months later, when her mother grew very ill. More ill than the doctors of Sieglinde's time period were able to cure, and she eventually passed away – but not before giving Sieglinde a few final words to remember her by, and a message for her father.

Thus began Sieglinde's quest to find her father. Because of his curse of the undead, she understood that she had a limited amount of time to find him before he went Hollow and became an mindless husk of the man he once was – and he already had a few months of a head start on her. And so Sieglinde began the long and arduous journey on foot to the dangerous land of Lordran.

She actually manages to get to Lordran without many issues - which speaks to her abilities in and of itself, because it's not a place that everyone is able to get to on their own. What's more, is that Sieglinde is still very much a human (and as such, doesn't get any second chances) and yet her skills as a warrior are enough to get her to survive in Lordran on her own for some time.

Unfortunately, her skills weren't enough to defeat every enemy she found herself pitted against, and after an unknown amount of time in Lordran, Sieglinde was attacked by a Golden Crystal Golem - large creatures made of crystal, that appear to be made and used by Seath the Scaleless, for the purposes of collecting women to be experimented on.

It wasn't a proper fight – the Golem took Sieglinde by surprise and encased her in crystal for transport (which is made clear by her comments after being rescued in canon; claiming that she wasn't sure how she had ended up within the golem), and carried her back to the Duke's Archives for experimentation.
It’s at this point that she’d have been pulled into Riverview. She felt extremely out-of-place inside the golem’s body, and her life was in danger.

abilities:
Sieglinde is a talented warrior, skilled in the use of a sword and shield, as well as heavy armor.
She's also particularly strong for a person her age - as is evident by the fact that she's able to maneuver herself around in that bulky set of armor she wears. She's also capable of wielding a bastard sword (a weapon quotes that is, to quote the game, "normally wielded with two hands due to its great weight") with one hand.

Her skill isn't anything bordering on superhuman, of course, but she is significantly above average in terms of strength.

strengths:
Driven: Upon her mother’s passing, Sieglinde left her homeland and tracked her father to Lordran (a notoriously dangerous place, filled with undead and deadly monsters) in order to deliver a message to him. Whether she did it purely because of the promise she made to her mother, or she just wanted to see her father one last time, there’s little doubt that the girl has one hell of a drive. When she sets herself to a goal, she doesn’t let things get in her way.
Responsible: Sieglinde has a profound sense of responsibility to her family and the people around her. The fact that she partook in this journey at all speaks to this, but there’s also the fact that she eventually finds her father a second time, after he had lost his mind and gone hollow. While it broke her heart to do it, she takes the responsibility of putting him down upon herself, even though there are other able-bodied warriors she could ask for help.
Bravery: Sieglinde is a trained knight. While she’s young, and not quite as experienced as her father or others of her order might be, she’s shown herself willing to put her own life at risk and face down dangers that would deter many others.

weaknesses:
The Armor: Look, I’m gonna be real with you. She’s not going to want to take the armor off in a lot of situations. It’s a symbol of her homeland, and a reminder of her father, and something that’s saved her life countless times. Despite its defensive advantages, it’s… really bulky and heavy and it limits her visibility. Plus it looks goofy as all hell and people are probably going to make fun of her for it.
High Tolerance of Other Peoples’ Nonsense: Just as stated. She has a tendency to let things slide, and as long as no one is hurting anyone else, she’s unlikely to intervene. She won't tolerate someone raising arms against her, of course, but when it comes to stupidity and antics she has a strong tendency to just sigh and swallow her frustration. As a result, she can be kind of a doormat.
Worrywort: While Sieglinde is confident enough in her own abilities to rush headfirst into danger, sword in hand, she tends to worry about other people’s well-being a bit more than her own. That, combined with the fact that she’s so comfortable putting herself in danger for the sake of others, can lead to some risky behavior on her part.

skills (optional): Given her experience within the military of Catarina, she’d be most comfortable being put on the Perimeter Guard – either as a standard guard or as a surveyor.
housing (optional): Perimeter Guard barracks.

network username: fraulein.zweihander

network sample:
[It doesn’t take Sieglinde very long to decide that she doesn’t like these ‘smartphones’ all that much. The idea of talking to all of these people over such a long distance is an undoubtedly novel one – and surely a concept with many practical uses.
But it feels like someone is always saying something on the network, and the phone she’d been given requires its user’s bare fingertips in order to work. Which means that she needs to remove her gauntlet, in order to unlock the bloody thing.
It’s a little frustrating, is all she’s saying. That, combined with the fact that she still hasn’t figured out all of the gadget’s quirks, has somewhat soured her mood on them – even if they clearly have their uses.
]
Erm, yes. Hello? Oh, how do I get this to work? They just told me…
[It takes a moment of fiddling with the gizmo before the camera settles on the face of a teenage girl surrounded by a set of ludicrously bulky armor.]
Ah, there. I think I’ve got it. Hello to you all! I am Knight Sieglinde of Catarina, and it is good to meet you all. Or as good as it can be, given the circumstances.
I was brought to this place by mistake, you see. The good people of Riverview have promised to return me when they are able, but until then I am holding out hope that my father will stumble into the same sort of portal that I did. I beg of you, if any of you meet him here, please let me know. He is quite hard to miss – he wears the same sort of armor as I do, he has a moustache, and answers to the name Siegmeyer.
[A pause.]
And please, ask him to stay put if you find him. He has a tendency to wander off on his own…

prose/action sample:
Sieglinde and Madoka fight moths in the dark.

Thank you!

I have a quick question for you, though: I see that Sieglinde is the only one listed to be living in the Perimeter Guard Barracks. Is it safe to assume that there are other (NPC) guards that live in the barracks with her, or does she have the whole place to herself?
