riverview: applications
Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.
Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.
● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.
Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.
● Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
● Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.
● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.
● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.
● Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.
● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15
● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.
● CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.
● CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.
● CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.
● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.
● Sample Applications: Ronan Lynch (Canon Character; Written Background), Yuuri Katsuki (Canon Character; CRAU), Derek Hale (Canon Character; CRAU), Tolemi Pagoda (Original Character), Benjamin Holt (Original Character)

● weaknesses: list at least 3 personality weaknesses your character has and elaborate on them; this section should not be more than 300 words
● job skills (optional): if you would like your character to be placed in a job to start out, list three work-related skills so they can be assigned something suitable; this is different than the abilities section, and should only be three words or very short phrases - the character will not be placed in a job if there are no traits listed here; This is something that is asked in orientation, and would be volunteered by your character. But please feel free to specify if they have a skill they might not mention but that you would like considered in their job placement and I'll take it into consideration as a "funny coincidence."
● housing (optional): tell the mod if you have any preference for where your character is placed in community housing

● network sample: write out or link to an example of how your character would communicate over the network; this sample does not have to be long, but it must clearly show your character's personality and a good understanding of their voice; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)
● prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)
Please fill out the information in the form below and submit it in its entirety in one comment to this entry. If your application doesn't fit in one comment, it needs to be trimmed - application standards are weighted to quality rather than quantity.
Link | Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Reserved

character information
● name: Link
● canon: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
● canon point: Mid-game, specifically after he wakes from the Shrine of Resurrection, leaves the Great Plateau and manages to free Vah Ruta and Vah Rudania from Ganon. He’s recovered a handful of memories, but not all. Please let me know if you need more specifics.
● age: ~17 (Not counting the 100 years he was in stasis)
● (canon) background: Here
● (original) world: N/A
● abilities: Link is an accomplished knight and is well trained in a variety of weapons, including broadswords, shields, archery, claymores, and spears/halberds. He is also a skilled horseman who is capable of training horses captured wild and also able to engage in combat on horseback. He also has survivalist skills and has knowledge on Hyrule’s plant and animal life to be able to cook and make elixers (the game’s version of potions/medicines.) Of course, this may not apply very well to Riverview as he wouldn’t have any knowledge of anything not found within Hyrule. While Link is never shown in-game of crafting, given his survivalist skills I would think that he also has some knowledge of making his own weapons, though they would be simple and of low durability.
Link also obtains powers given by each Champion he has freed from Calamity Ganon, though I would expect each of these to be nerfed at Riverview due to the fact that it seems that Link must have some kind of contact with their spirits in order for them to work. (Also, it might make him a bit OP, so I’m willing to do without them regardless of what canon point I choose.)
● strengths: Link is the strong and silent type, and there’s both good and bad things about that. When it comes to a serious or potentially life-threatening situation, Link is good to turn to as he tends to keep his cool and doesn’t falter under pressure. He has a very clear sense of duty and believes that he should use his strengths to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. When assigned as Princess Zelda’s personal guard, he’s met with a very frustrated Zelda as she doesn’t believe she needs one. (There are other factors that make her frustrated with Link’s presence, though they’re not relevant here.) Despite being ordered to leave, Link continues to follow Zelda, though often unseen to keep an eye on her. (He was ordered by her father, the King of Hyrule to protect her, and one could also come to the conclusion that the King’s orders are to be followed before the Princess’.) When she does run into trouble, Link is there to drive off the assailants and their relationship improves.
Back off that tangent, Link is a good listener. As a part of his altruistic nature, Link likes to help others if he can and will often go out of his way to do so. However, he’s not one to be taken advantage over as he does expect some kind of compensation for his efforts, though he wouldn’t expect unfair payments. (That is, he’s not going to expect a poor traveler to cough up a lot of money for his help, but he’s fine with receiving a meal or other resources.)
● weaknesses: Link’s “strong and silent” personality of course has it’s downsides. Part of the reason of his rocky start with Zelda is his silence, as it can be off-putting. His lack of outward emotion also makes it harder to form social relationships and people do seem annoyed with it from time to time. His determination could possibly be interpreted as stubbornness by some. His willingness to risk his neck for others is often seen as a good trait, but it does put his risk of injury and death a lot higher for that, and Zelda herself remarks about how his courage runs very close along the lines of recklessness. Link seems to have the philosophy that “you don’t know until you try,” though at times he does try to do something without giving it as much thought and preparation as he should.
● job skills (optional): Link would join the Surveyors in the Perimeter Guard, though not right away. In keeping with how I play Breath of the Wild, Link would want to get his bearings in the city, get to know people and maybe do a few odd jobs if he could before eventually joining. Link could also be an instructor for archery, swords, and spears.
● housing (optional): I have no preference, and Link wouldn’t either. It’s very likely that whatever housing he’s given he won’t use much.
● network username: Link
● network sample: Does anyone know the source of the monsters outside of the city? I noticed that defenses for the city are more focused on any attacks that might be made by the creatures outside of the city, but it might be worth it to look into where they come from and wiping them out at the source to allow people to move outside of the city and expand on resources.
Whether or not anyone knows, I’m preparing to go out myself on reconnaissance. If anyone’s interested or knows anything that might help, please let me know.
● prose/action sample: Link stood up and stretched to get rid of any stiffness from sitting by the fire all night. He quickly ate a simple, yet filling breakfast before putting out the last embers of the fire and emerging from the overhang where he had made camp for the night.
He had begun exploring the abandoned city the day before, but so far hadn’t found anything worth noting, though was surprised at the lack of monsters around. The decayed buildings and broken roads was a strong reminder of the world he had been pulled from, as the Calamity had left the civilization of Hyrule in shambles, and monsters roamed freely in most places there as well. The architecture and scale were different, but the situation he found himself in was more or less the same as before he had arrived in Riverview.
Link had been exploring for a couple hours, pushing for the edge of the abandoned city and the beginning of the wilder areas around when he heard movement from something nearby. He crouched and slowly and silently around the decayed walls, taking care to look out for anything before moving from one hiding spot to the next. He eventually came upon a creature he had never seen before, but it was clear that it was one of the monsters he had heard about back in the city.
The monster was quite large, at least three times Link’s size. Its body was like that of a person, just really big, but it’s head didn’t seem to fit it as it was that of a bull. It was rooting around the overgrowth as if looking for something, and a large make-shift weapon hammer made from a large steel rod and the head made of cracking concrete. It reminded Link of the lynels that he had encountered around Hyrule, and he made a mental note to be extra careful not to alert it to his presence, at least, not until he knew if there were any more nearby.
Slowly, Link made his way around to look for higher ground to get a better look of the place and to see if this monster was alone. Thankfully, it seemed preoccupied with something, so it wasn’t hard to get by. Link made it to a crumbling, but still somewhat stable pillar that used to hold up an overpass and started to climb, making sure he wouldn’t be in sight of the monster he had found. Once he made it to the top, it was easy to see that this thing was indeed alone. Good. Time to see what it was made of. Link quietly took out his bow and knocked and arrow, taking aim at the creature. He wouldn’t know how it fought unless he saw it firsthand.
