riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)

submit an application

Please fill out the information in the form below and submit it in its entirety in one comment to this entry. If your application doesn't fit in one comment, it needs to be trimmed - application standards are weighted to quality rather than quantity.

Steve Rogers | Marvel Comics (616) | Reserved

player information
name: Tea
age: 32
contact: [plurk.com profile] teaandreveries or PM
other characters: N/A

character information
name: Steven Grant Rogers
canon: Marvel comics (616 universe)
canon point: post-Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier
age: mid-30's

(canon) background: Steve's wikia page

abilities:
Super-soldier serum
Physical enhancement - While not super-human strength, Steve has enhanced physical strength that lets him lift incredible amounts. He can bench press 1,200 lbs and break handcuffs and kick through steel doors with ease. He can leap 20 feet out or 3 meters up without a running start. He has the ability to run 60 mph and enhanced endurance, meaning he can perform at his best for an hour before he starts showing fatigue. He also has enhanced durability, giving him the ability to take beatings most humans wouldn't survive and fall from several building stories without injury. His agility and reflexes are also enhanced, letting him dodge bullets at close range and perform gymnastic feats like scaling buildings with very little to use for balance. His hand-eye coordination is so good that he can use a shield as a projectile weapon and somehow manage to get it back. His senses are sharpened to the point that he can anticipate and react to changes in his environment faster than any other average human.

Healing Factor - The serum gives Steve's body enhanced efficiency on a cellular level as well. His body repairs damage at an accelerated rate, which, while it doesn't mean he heals from injury instantly, does occur faster than average. He's immune to infections, diseases, most drugs and toxins, and he can't get intoxicated. His cell regeneration is also consistently stable, decelerating the aging process.

Other abilities
Tactics - Steve is a master strategist and combat tactician. He has an eidetic memory, giving him perfect recall, and he applies that to pattern recognition and problem-solving in planning battle strategies. He has a natural intuition for situations requiring deductive reasoning and anticipating opponents' actions. He's also able to change plans to adapt to new factors on the fly, using his ability to compensate for surprises and improvise using his environment to ensure victory.

Martial Arts - Steve's ability to learn is not evident in his hand-to-hand combat abilities. He incorporates moves and methods from a range of martial arts schools, including boxing, judo, kickboxing, defendu, jujitsu, and other various disciplines as he encounters them to create a personal style.

Weapons Mastery - He primarily prefers shield fighting, but Steve is also adept with most forms of weaponry. He's an expert marksman and can use a variety of weapons proficiently, from staffs and swords to throwing knives and maces. He's also familiar with most military vehicles, able to drive and operate combat vehicles, submarines, some trains, and even utility vehicles.

Military Intelligence - Steve is skilled in many different military disciplines. He has experience in intelligence gathering and reconnaissance, demolitions, survival, hunting and tracking, distance swimming, mountaineering, cartography, ciphering, interrogation, and enemy infiltration. He is also a capable sketch artist and multilingual.

Strength of Will - Steve's strong will is stubbornness to incredible degrees. His ability to apply mind over matter lets him resist the effects of many drugs and toxins, as well as most forms of mind control and illusions. He has, quite literally, dream-punched the Red Skull's consciousness out of his mind. Possession, hallucination, and magical mind-altering have very limited effects once Steve becomes aware of their use.

strengths:
- Loyal
Steve is a stalwart friend and devoted defender. Once he accepts someone as a friend or decides to support a cause, he is ready to risk his life for them. He can't be bribed and won't let anyone else's opinions sway him. It doesn't matter if he's up against the world. When he makes up his mind, Steve is unmovable. He's trustworthy and helpful to those around him, valuing dependability and wanting to demonstrate it himself. He's even fair to his enemies, trying to promote understanding over aggression when he can.

- Brave
Coupled with the above, Steve is also fearless against threats. He believes in hope against all odds, including alien armies, world conquerors, and the end of the world. He's not afraid to be hurt or killed doing what is right, and he's not afraid to be wrong, standing up for himself and others because he believes in the principle of standing for his beliefs.

- Moral
At the core of Steve's motivations are his moral ideals. He acknowledges himself that he can be idealistic at times, but his moral beliefs are a major driving force for him. He is always seeking to do what is right and to find the best course of action to help other people do what is right. He sets examples by being Captain America and offers aid to strangers, speaks out when he sees an injustice, and refuses to back down from a cause he believes in simply because he philosophically believes that, right or wrong, standing up is what matters.

weaknesses:

- Judgmental
Having strong beliefs also has drawbacks. Steve tends to judge harshly and can come off as closed-minded in new situations where he doesn't have much personal experience. His experience as a soldier lends him solid standards, but when a person or their actions doesn't fit into his fundamental understanding of the world, he is slow to accept them. His trademark stubbornness becomes a flaw, making him intractable toward compromise, often viewing it as a bribe.

- Reckless
Steve also judges himself harshly. His idealistic nature means he holds himself (and others) to exceptionally high standards, leading to disappointment and insecurity that he won't be able to be the hero that the world sees him as. He can become stifled by his own limitations, acting reckless and pushing people away when he feels he can't achieve his own quixotic idea of perfection. His loyalty to the mantle of Captain America has led to him becoming disillusioned several times, forcing him to rediscover who he is as an individual, not just a soldier following a dream. Steve's view of the world can be skewed, sometimes leading him to miss seeing the whole situations of real people in front of him because he focuses too much on the Dream.

- Hot-Tempered
At his best, Steve is a valiant and caring teammate. At his worst, he is impatient and bitter, sniping at people he dislikes. Steve can be petty and passive aggressive, turning banter into insults and courage into self-righteous rage. His inability to really settle with himself makes it difficult for him to maintain close relationships, and if someone does happen to get on his bad side, he can hold a grudge for a long time. He's still human under the idealist's banner, and he fights the same way whether or not he's right.

To those of you who slept in this morning: You were missed. That's all I'm going to say about it, but you're welcome to contact me to arrange a meet up for another time. Hope you aren't getting discouraged. And anyone else who'd like a training partner? You know where you can find me. At least for the next hour.
