riverview: exploration
Exploration is an important part of the culture of Riverview Quarantine. With a population mostly comprised of pioneers and people seeking a new lease on life, there is definitely a big interest in branching out and rediscovering lost parts of the city or scouting out new places to expand to. Anyone is welcome to explore at any time, and to request a member of the Perimeter Guard to accompany them on the exploratory mission if they do not have a capable fighter on the team to protect the explorers.
At any given time, there will be several things going on either in the abandoned part of the city or outside the city walls that require investigation. Current missions can be found in the comments below.
● Each mission has a cause, an objective, and may have requirements for how many characters and what skillsets are needed to complete the task.
● Once you have chosen a mission you would like your character to complete, leave a comment on the mission to let the mod and other players know that the mission is in progress.
● Arrange your team, plan the mission, and thread it out. This should be done on the OOC community rather than on the exploration page, to avoid clutter and increase accessibility, but feel free to post a link to a plotting post when you claim a mission so people perusing the exploration page can find it.
● Once you have threaded at least to the point of reaching the objective, link the thread and give a quick summary of the mission outcome in a second comment and the mod will consider the mission complete. Each completed mission will be replaced with a new active mission.
● Each mission has many possible outcomes. Which outcome happens is completely up to the players involved. The only real limit is if you would like a mission to have a catastrophic outcome that would drastically affect the functioning of the game, in which case, please contact the mod first.
● All participants in the mission will receive the applicable Activity Point bonuses for the mission once they have submitted it to the Activity Bonus Rewards page.
There are several major overall exploration objectives in Riverview, and most missions posted on the exploration page are related to these major objectives in one way or another. Mission outcome can definitely have an impact on the state of the setting as it is. Please see below for a list of the major exploration objectives in the city, the missions related to those objectives, and any additional relevant details (whether the mission can be taken by multiple teams, if there are any monetary rewards, etc.)
Players claiming missions are welcome to message the mod personally with any questions or to get additional hints if they are stuck. Also, these missions are intended to be completely open-ended. While I have contingency plans and ideas based on whether certain missions are successful or not, there is no right or wrong outcome to the missions. Players are welcome to plan big and contact the mod if they are concerned the idea is 'too big' and will be accommodated to the best of my ability.
One final note: All role suggestions are just suggestions, and characters who do not fit the roles are still welcome to participate! Everyone has something to contribute, after all.

possibly falling under objective iv: city safety
● Objective: Primarily to determine the cause of the fire. Once the cause is known and take precautions to make sure that any similar catastrophe in the future will not result in as much damage and injury as this one did.
● Dangers: None that I can think of. Maybe paper cuts? Blisters from beating the pavement? I suppose if someone wanted to actively sabotage the investigation, they could end up doing so in a way that could prove dangerous for others.
● Requirements: Members of the Perimeter Guard or Police force with experience conducting interviews, because knowing what questions to ask and what answers to be on the lookout for is important. Anyone with experience that would be helpful in interpreting the physical evidence left behind. Someone with a background in technology to put together a digital recreation of the fire. Additional volunteers to sort through interview transcripts and help accurately recreate the time line of the fire.
APPROVED
SUBMISSION: WEATHER ANOMALY
● Objective: To find out the source of the anomaly, to discover whether or not the remains are of any use for re-purposing or expansion of the city itself.
● Dangers: Messing with the anomaly may be a danger in and of itself; is it magic? Science? The results could be catastrophic for the local flora and fauna living in and outside of the area. In addition, monsters and other such creatures have been known to make the area their home as well, adapting to the strange weather conditions in otherwise unseen ways.
● Requirements: At least one science officer of some type, at least three Perimeter Guard or other skilled fighters for protection. OPTIONAL: Surveyors to assess whether or not the area could become inhabitable, salvagers to break down existing structures for useful items or treasures.
APPROVED
Re: SUBMISSION: WEATHER ANOMALY
SUBMISSION: Cave Crawl
● Objective: To map out and explore the network of caves and tunnels and determine if anything within could be useful or valuable to the city (such as through the discovery of rare ores, or gems, or magic artifacts, or helpful species of fungi).
● Dangers: Several types of cave-dwelling and underground monsters, potentially dangerous fungi, etc. have made the tunnels their home. There is also the usual dangers that come along with spelunking in dark and maze-like environments.
● Requirements: At least one scientist type or geologist, 2-3 Perimeter Guard for protection, Surveyors or volunteers with methods to navigate the tunnels in the dark.

SUBMISSION: I, Belloq
● Single or Multiple Claims: Single
● Mission Type: Side Quest
● Reward: A very specific artifact, but if they also find some riches along the way, they might help themselves. The artifact in question is a glowing stone (let's call it THE HEART OF MERRA-- or something like that), which it turns out will "infect" others with the emotions and attitudes of whoever's holding the stone.
● Cause: There are rumors of a temple in the outskirts of the Abandoned City, which houses an artifact with the power to bring even the oldest of enemies to a place of peace and oneness. Of course, rumors are a dime a dozen, and most are little more than fairy tales. The good people at Prometheus Labs, however, have found that there may be some truth to this story. They've even approximated where the temple may be. Now it's just a matter of sending a team in to investigate and loot the artifact, should it exist at all.
Let's hope this doesn't end in anyone's faces melting off.
● Objective: Investigate the temple, find the artifact, and bring it back to the city in one piece.
● Dangers: Monsters, booby traps, possibly a temple guardian boss monster, and-- unknown to the not-so-intrepid mercenaries-- the artifact's effects.
● Requirements: A handful of fighters/adventurers, and an OPTIONAL NERD (archaeologist, anthropologist, scientist, magic scholar, etc). No more than five characters total. This mission would be for 3-5 characters total, and it's on behalf of Prometheus Labs, not the city government or the Perimeter Guard.
APPROVED.

SUBMISSION: Jumanji
● Single or Multiple Claims: one team only
● Mission Type: exploration/investigation
● Reward: the satisfaction of a job well done
● Cause: Misaddressed emails between a member of the Environmental Committee of the Government of Riverview and an independent contractor discussing the possibility of sentient moss covered trees near the Amusement Park currently being cleaned up. Botanists are worried that the clean up will damage the trees' connected roots before they can be fully examined or communicated with. Additionally, they are concerned that the moss may be parasitic and sentient in its own right.
● Objective: To discover if the trees are in fact sentient and, if so, cordon off the area to protect them from the rest of the Amusement Park clean up and to discover if the moss is also sentient and possibly discern the relationship between moss and tree cluster.
● Dangers: Monsters may lurk in the area still and unknown elements regarding the trees and moss themselves. It's Jumanji out there! Also sunburn.
● Requirements: 3-5 characters total including Jyn and Cassian; the mission is mostly personal curiosity and as such Jyn will open the remaining slots to Perimeter Guard members.
APPROVED.

Submission: The Crater
● Single or Multiple Claims: Single for now!
● Mission Type: Exploration/Investigation
● Reward: Any tech scavenged from the location.
● Cause: In the course of investigating the abandoned city on a Surveyor mission, Breq came across a strange capsule-like structure half-buried in the remains of what looked to be a crater. The capsule looked like none of the architecture native to the abandoned city around it or to modern-day Riverview. However, the walls of the crater were surprisingly sheer, and without the proper equipment she was forced to leave off on exploring it.
However, before she left, she noted a few anomalies. Despite the vegetation that was slowly beginning to overtake the depression, the building itself seemed entirely clean, almost perfectly maintained. Furthermore, despite the movement of the wind and birds flying around, she could hardly hear anything in the area. The entire building seemed to be cloaked in oppressive quiet.
● Objective: Find out who, or what, is maintaining this building, and what's causing the zone of silence around it.
● Dangers: Potential dangerous encounters with robots inside of the building. Potentially dangerous psychological/telepathic encounters inside of the capsule.
● Requirements: Up to 6 Perimeter Guard adjacent fighters, researchers, or explorers.
APPROVED.
