riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

Sample Applications: Ronan Lynch (Canon Character; Written Background), Yuuri Katsuki (Canon Character; CRAU), Derek Hale (Canon Character; CRAU), Tolemi Pagoda (Original Character), Benjamin Holt (Original Character)

character information
name: Jon Snow
canon: Game of Thrones
canon point: 6x10
age: 24

(canon) background: Here

(original) world: N/A

abilities: Jon is a normal human. Well, as normal as someone can be who was brought back from the dead. He's considered one of the best swordsmen in Westeros and shows skill in tactics and strategy (though he sometimes gets ahead of himself). He is also a talented rider and an inspiring leader. There is something about him that draws others to
follow him.

strengths:
Friendly: Despite his gruff exterior, Jon has a natural ability to make friends and earn the respect and loyalty of others. In the beginning of the show, there was a measure of animosity between him and a few of the brothers of the Night's Watch after a training exercise. Later, after he taught him what he knew, they became his closest group of friends. The same can be said in earning the friendship of those that are normally the enemies the Night's Watch, the Free Folk. They went from attacking the Wall now to allies of Jon's, willing to follow him.
Brave: Jon isn't afraid to throw himself into the thick of a fight or mission. He battled a horde of White Walkers at Hardhome. In the battle for Winterfell, he faced down a charging line of cavalry by himself. When he goes into battle, he isn't afraid. He fights without restraint and doesn't hesitate to share the same conditions as his men.
Sense of Justice: Jon acts in accordance to what he knows is right. He doesn't make decisions based on honor but does what he thinks is just. He gives the Wildlings land beyond the Wall because he knows that they will be killed if they remain in the path of the White Walkers. He holds off on killing Ramsay Bolton because it isn't his right to kill him. He follows the rules expected of him, executing a man that defied his orders and the brothers that killed him. He might not always like it, but he has a code to follow.

weaknesses:
Guilt Ridden: Jon carries his mistakes with him, often shutting himself off because of his guilt. He refuses to sleep with other women because his lover died (as he believes) due to his actions. He blames himself for the deaths of his brothers and often feels like he betrayed the Night's watch as well as the Free Folk. He carries this guilt to the point of brooding.
Low Sense of Self: Jon thinks less of himself because of his status as a bastard. Society helped instill that in him, but even among the Night's Watch, he felt shame and anger over who he was. He continually reminds Sansa that he's not a Stark, taking the lesser rooms of his house. Being a bastard makes him feel unworthy and less than others, something that hasn't exactly changed through the show.
Short sighted: Jon tends to think in terms of the moment, which leads to him miscalculating long term repercussions. While it was good for him to help the Wildlings flee south, he didn't anticipate that it would create animosity among his brothers because he was ignoring the long standing feud. This lead to his death. We see another example of this during the Battle of the Bastards. Jon thinks only of saving Rickon when he appears on the field. He doesn't see it as a trap that ends up getting Rickon killed and nearly getting Jon killed as well. He wanted only to save Rickon, but didn't think about how to do it and what the after effects would be.

character information
name: Thor
canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
canon point: The end of Age of Ultron
age: Over a thousand, appears 30.

(canon) background:
background
(original) world:
N/A

abilities:
Asgardian:
Super Strength
Thor is the strongest Asgardian, aside from Odin. He can lift cars full of people effortlessly and fight fist and hammer against The Hulk.
Regenerative Abilities, Stamina and near Invulnerability
Thor heals quickly. Things that would kill humans can be slept off and Thor can fight on and on without rest for far longer than a human.
Extended Life Span
Though he isn't immortal, Thor's lifespan is almost 50 times that of a regular human.
Enhanced Agility/Speed
Creating and Controlling Electric Energy

Mjolnir:
Weather Manipulation and Lightning Manipulation
Mjolnir grants Thor the ability to summon storms, storm clouds and rain as well as manipulating and conducting lightning.
Armor Generation
Transforming his clothing into armor.
Summoning Powers
Thor can summon Mjolnir from anywhere in seconds. Even space.
Flight
Throwing Mjolnir and holding onto it gives Thor the ability to fly
Healing
When it deems him worthy, Mjolnir can revive Thor from near-death.

strengths:
Strength of Heart:
The most notable aspect of Thor's character is his warm, friendly demeanor. He can be intimidating to behold, but he values love, family and friendship above all things. He has weathered much from Loki's betrayal, but he still has a great deal of love for him. This plays into his sense of humor and wit, his affectionate nature and his loyalty. He puts up with a lot of shit (and he gives a lot too) but you will never find a better friend.
Loyalty:
Once you've won Thor's trust and friendship, you can guarantee he will fight by your side whenever you might need him. It takes a lot to turn him away entirely, as evidenced by the fact that he still can't stand to part from Loki and he still tolerates Tony. Some of his famous loyalties are to his Father, who he would fight and die for despite their differences, The Avengers, who he would fight alongside and risk death with to protect Earth, Earth in general and The Warriors Three, who he has supported and fought with for hundreds of years.
Bravery:
Nothing stands in Thor's way when he's doing what he believes is right. He's incredibly determined, if not a little head strong, but he'll put his life on the line to protect his people (friends, citizens of Asgard and Midgard, family). Thor will put everything he has into a fight and he will do whatever it takes, even if it means going behind his Father's back or putting his faith in untrustworthy sources.

weaknesses:
Temper
Thor was once renowned for his foul, childish temper and mood swings. In recent years, he's got it under control somewhat, but he's still prone to the occasional (violent) lash out. An example of this is when he went straight for Tony's throat in his rage during Age of Ultron. Arguably, he gets mad for better reasons these days, but he still has a tendency to throw things around, stomp and sulk.
Pride
Being the Son of Odin, Strongest Warrior of Asgard and God of Thunder gives Thor a lot of reason to be smug. He's still prone to using his name and his reputation to get his way and he tends to assume people know who he is. Confidence isn't a bad thing, but sometimes Thor takes it to the next level.
Stubbornness
Once Thor decides or fixates on something, it's difficult to lead him off his path. He knows what he's about, most of the time. He likes to think he knows what's right and that he makes good, educated choices. Sometimes, he's just going with his gut.

patches | dark souls | not reserved

[personal profile] cliffkicker 2017-05-02 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
player information
name: Kid
age: 27
contact: PM journal or PP [plurk.com profile] holographic
other characters: n/a

character information
name: Patches (with or without plenty of titles).
canon: Dark Souls.
canon point: III-ish... to explain, Patches, as a character, appears in multiple Souls game made by FromSoft. While each entry in the series does take place in a different universe, there's also undeniable connection between each universe, and the inhabitants of it rely very heavily on "souls" - literally, human souls, which can almost always be summoned to appear long past their deaths and even on different planes of existence. Or, they can willfully invade, for the sole purpose of attacking and killing. TL;DR: Patches traverses a bunch of existences as an eternally annoying shithead.
age: Looks like late 20s or early 30s.

(canon) background: DS1 flavor / DS3 flavor

abilities: Nothing magical, since he thinks it's stupid. Patches is a sneak; he'd rather lure an enemy into a trap and watch them fall to their death than beat their brains out in any case. When he's got no option though, he'll use a spear and a simple shield, and he's covered in leather armor, suggesting he's more about dexterity and quickness than pure strength. Definitely fights dirty, if he's able.

strengths: Patches' biggest strength is something like charisma; despite how much of a jackass he is, he's apparently good at talking his way out of people killing him. He's survived way longer than he probably should've and there's always an option to "forgive" him in each game.

He's also quite confident in himself and has something of an ego. This is made obvious in the fact he has the audacity to think a simple apology will clear all wrongdoings, and in DS3, plenty of his shop item descriptions seem written by himself, as they do nothing but compliment him. Patches. The best guy ever that everyone loves. Patches also hates clerics. And religion. And God. Or rather the idea of God, because he's a pretty vocal atheist. In the very medieval world of Dark Souls, with men and women of faith around every corner, it takes a real sense of independence to go around announcing your hatred of something that a lot of powerful magic-users believe in.

Oddly, despite everything that points to the contrary, Patches seems to have a loose sense of honor among thieves. There's a character in DS3 named Greirat, an imprisoned kleptomaniac whom the player character can free. Patches later tells the player Greirat "did him a good turn" and that he "owes him". Attacking Greirat will make Patches hostile, and Patches will even go try to save him on one of his thief-quests at some point. He does this in a disguise, which hilariously suggests that Patches does have some tiny shred of a heart, but he doesn't want anyone to know about it.

weaknesses: Patches is a slimy snake. He's deceitful. He backstabs almost everyone he meets, either figuratively or literally. He has kicked a shit-ton of people over cliffs to their deaths or near-deaths. He has sprung a bunch of traps on others, which also lead to death or near-death. This means he makes far, far more enemies than friends, and certain characters comment on having met him and wanting to kill him for what he's put them through.

The man is selfish; all he really cares about is hoarding currency and treasure, and he tends to care more about what a traveler is carrying on them than said traveler's life. He's kind of sadistic; Patches clearly enjoys whenever someone falls into a trap of his and always mocks them for it. Patches is made out to be one of the most detestable characters in the games and his reasoning for what he does is little more than "just cuz". Clearly this atrocious nature of his means he has very few connections or positive relationships in his life. Patches doesn't seem particularly bothered by this, but in the end, he is human. He might be just a little bit lonely underneath it all.

skills (optional): Skilled in the use of light weapons and armor. Manages to smile even in the most grim situations. Incredible survivor despite the odds of a horrific and unforgiving landscape, like a goddamn cockroach. Friendliest, loyalest, and most harmless man you'll ever meet!! He'd suck at most jobs due to lack of team spirit but he'd do pretty well as a perimeter surveyor, given his ability to travel and persevere on his own, and his penchant for digging up loot. He'd be willing to listen to orders if he was getting paid for it.
housing (optional): Honestly he should probably live alone for the safety of... whoever his poor potential roommate would be. Likely would not want to stay in the communal housing, so he'll go find his own crappy little place somewhere.

player information

character information
name: Prompto Argentum
canon: Final Fantasy XV
canon point: After being captured by the Empire and taken to the Imperial capital Gralea during Chapter 13
age: 20

(canon) background: LINK

abilities: As a member of the Crownsguard, sworn to protect the royalty of Lucis, he has gone through rigorous training from Gladiolus and others to prepare him for Noctis' journey to Altissia. He knows basic survival, marksmanship, self-defense, and first aid.

He also has the ability to materialize his firearms out of thin air using Noctis' inherent Lucian royalty hocus pocus. The bond between Crownsguard and Lucian royalty allows for this, although it's not explained in any great detail.

Lastly, he has a few special abilities that use his weaponry.

  • Piercer: Pierce target with a firearm to hit multiple enemies in a line. Reduces enemy defense.

  • Starshell: Draws enemy attention within a wide radius with a bright light shot into the air. Causes Light damage and fatigues daemons.

  • Gravisphere: Creates a large energy ball that draws in enemies to the center.

  • Recoil: Deal heavy damage to a single enemy with a controlled explosion.

  • Trigger Happy: Causes damage to a wide range of enemies.

strengths:

  • Compassionate/Sensitive: Within the four-man group, Prompto is usually the most observant of his friends' mood changes or anything ailing them. When Noctis has troubles with sudden headaches, Prompto asks him regularly if they should take a break. He's also very attentive to Ignis' new disabilities toward the end of the game and is always there lending a supportive hand for the other man.

  • Sense of Humor: As the greenhorn of the team, Prompto receives criticism at times during combat or for zoning out during their journey. Despite these critiques and, at times, sharp jabs he takes them in stride without letting it get to him (at least on the surface). In dark situations, he is the first to add an air of flippancy and light-heartedness to whatever challenges they encounter. Usually with terrible puns.

  • Friends 4Evr: Prompto is a very loyal friend; it's something he doesn't take lightly. As a child he had none until Princess Lunafreya contacted him and asked him to make friends with Noctis. Their first meet ended in disaster, and Noctis called him "heavy" because he was overweight. So, in order to keep his commitment to Luna, he began exercising to cut his weight so that the next time he met Noctis he wouldn't be so damn "heavy". The two have been inseparable since then.

And despite the fact that Prompto was only a civilian, Noctis wanted him to come on his journey with the rest of his Crownsguard. Again, Prompto put all his energy in learning self-defense and marksmanship so he could protect his best friend and be an asset to the group.

weaknesses:

  • Foot in Mouth Syndrome: Remember that good sense of humor? Weelll... It causes him to speak without thinking. Even his friend Ignis comments that his excited comments can be flippant or disrespectful in certain situations. There are several quests undertaken by Noctis to collect dogtags of deceased hunters. Prompto makes excited comments when they find one, without thinking about the person who had died in order to retrieve it.

  • Insecurity: His cheery, superficial persona is a well-constructed shell he's built up around him, but inside he still admits that he feels like an outsider and a burden among the four main characters. These insecurities likely stem from his heritage as a test subject of the Niflheim military, sworn enemy of the Lucis kingdom, and as an overweight child with no friends. Prompto feels he must go out of his way to be as exuberant and unforgettable as possible to keep any attention (whether positive or negative) on him.
  • Wuss Puss: As a civilian in the Crownsguard, Prompto is not very experienced when it comes to the weird and wild. But, while the others continue to be surprised by the supernatural oddities they encounter (like daemons, gods, etc. etc.), Prompto is usually the only one who outwardly complains about their quests. Frequently within dungeon quests, Prompto yelps or screams from noises, the atmosphere, or from the daemons lurking in the shadows.

He also comments that he doesn't really like coming near the monsters they fight, that he's "more of a pet guy."

skills (optional): He is a photographer and is known as a "technophile" by his friends. He has a lot of interest and knowledge about cars and mechanical repair. Prompto is also a great rifleman.
housing (optional): Wherever!

Elizabeth of York • The White Queen / The White Princess • Reserved

player information

character information
name: Elizabeth of York
canon: The White Queen / The White Princess
canon point: After the battle of Bosworth.
age: 19

(canon) background: here

(original) world: n/a

abilities: Magic
I did mention in the beginning of Elizabeth's history section that the line of Melusina is blessed with many 'gifts'. Name, this is another term for magic. Which actually was not seen as evil back then! Apparently it was ok unless used for ill purposes. Who knew? People were much more superstitious back then. However, the kind of magic bestowed upon Elizabeth and her ancestors can and has been used for exactly that.

The fact is though, she is mostly ignorant of it. Or its limits. Her mother did not even assume any of her children had the magic until it became obvious that Elizabeth was having visions. As such, she will not be using any of the following abilities often, if at all.

Weather
Elizabeth can, with the help of her mother, call forth rain or fog. This isn't something she would be able to do alone. I believe this is because Melusina is a goddess of water, but that is never implicitly stated.

The Sight
Or foresight. Elizabeth against her will, sometimes has visions of things that will happen in the future. She had one of her uncle Anthony Woodville's death, and then of Richard III later on. These come and go at will, and she has no control of them (or herself when she is experiencing them.) She appears to undergo what looks like a sort of seizure, freezing and staring off vacantly into space. It wears off after a while.

Melusina's Song
When one of her line dies, Elizabeth can hear a mournful song. It is Melusina's way of letting her descendants know that they have lost one of their own.

Curses
A bit different from that which was taught to her mother by Jacquetta; she can writes names upon a piece of parchment, or a prayer to Melusina to curse whoever has wronged her. If she burns the parchment and set it upon water, she can in theory curse anyone she likes.

Unlike her mother who was taught divination by her own mother, Elizabeth has not been taught to harness her magic by her mother to such a degree. Which seeing as she would eventually be sent off to another country someday, would have seemed the prudent thing to avoid. She is ignorant of many of her abilities, and thus cannot use them for good or ill.

strengths:
Charismatic • Elizabeth is likened to a "second coming" of her father, King Edward IV in that they both shared a magnetic personality and boatloads of charm. In the book and series both, she has the same easy manner in dealing with people. That being: she's friendly to a degree most are not, and is willing to give of herself to benefit others.

Compassion • When the serving boy was about to go into the Tower (and face certain death), she is the only one to comfort him beforehand. Her thoughts are constantly for her sisters' wellbeing, and later in Series 2, the people. The latter case would see her break into Henry Tudor's coffers to send out gold to the citizens of London to provide food, medicine and burials during an epidemic while the King was away on Progress.

Fortitude • She has an incredible inner strength and resilience, able to lose everything and still smile and laugh. (She lost her name, her birthright, too many relatives to count, and her free will when she was married off to someone she viewed as a usurper later on.) No matter how bad her life becomes, she adapts, rebounds and finds ways to be happy despite her current lot.

weaknesses:
Naive • With King Richard, who led her by the nose and said he would marry her and make her his Queen if she slept with him. (He would not have.) For the promise of stability, she let him court her under his wife's nose and the entire court while not at all aware that he was playing her. And she trusts her mother to handle things early on, when she is truly only seeking power for the Rivers as she always has, and has no real care for her daughters.

Reserved • But it's hard for her to trust or grow attached to people in the first place. She was not permitted friends her own age at court neyond her own siblings and cousins, so being social in that intimate a way is a bit beyond her at the moment. But this point is twofold because she also hides what she truly feels behind a 'mask' of neutral civility, smiling so nobody can know how she truly feels. Exposing weakness is anathema for her, so she avoids it.

Temperamental • Lastly, she bears the infamous Plantagenet rage. More evident in The White Princess, she still has a few impressive rows in The White Queen, accusing her mother of caring only for the crown, raised voice and all. And then with Margaret Beaufort, in which case she declares that the woman will never sit in her presence again after falsely calling her a whore. Her anger is typically on a longer tether than her father's had been, but certain topics when pursued negatively or aggressively can provoke a like response awfully swiftly from her.

skills (optional): Cooking, sewing, dancing, singing, ability to play the lute and viola at minimum, embroidery, and academic knowledge. She is well-versed in linguistics (Greek, Latin, French and likely Spanish at least), arithmetic and history.
housing (optional): Private apartment.

network username: melusina

network sample: ( Keenly aware that appearances matter especially so upon making a first impression, she is dressed elegantly, and her hair is mostly left in loose waves, some cloth-of-gold ribbon threaded throughout. She keeps the look on her face pleasant, but cool.

There is no benefit for the time being in playing the fool, as she had at home. The warmth of her smile does not extend to her eyes, not yet. Instead they hold a light of curiosity, and a great amount of seriousness. Her awareness of the situation at hand is dim but for this: she is not dreaming. She has lost all, and stands to gain everything if she but works for it. Just as her father had won the throne of England: with smiles, charm and good business sense.

Her address, then, is an earnest one. )

Good day to you, one and all. I know not how many of you there are, or from whence you come. Yet if I may, I would humbly beg a favour, if you would be so gracious as to indulge me: your acquaintance.

Indeed, I would meet as many of you as might be possible. And, if you would be even more indulgent, information pertaining to the state of affairs in this land and abroad. I find myself possessed of a desire to know the full scope of things here ere I chart my course and navigate myself through whatever trials I may face here.

( Now, finally, the warmth enters her eyes. She has no choice; it would not do for all the land to bear witness to her grief. )

I am Elizabeth Plantagenet of England. It is my hope that I will be able to repay any kindness shown me sooner rather than later. I look forward to meeting and speaking with many of you!

Until then, farewell. Deus vobiscum.

name: Llŷr
canon: Original Character
canon point: 2017, after eight months living in Hudson River.
age: He doesn't quite know since it's not easy to track seasons deep underwater, but the equivalent of mid-twenties.

(canon) background: N/A
(original) world: Pretty much the typical modern fantasy-genre world.

In Llŷr's world, supernatural beings exist; there are faeries in groves, dragons hidden among the Himalayan mountains and ghosts haunting graveyards. However, humans are rarely aware of this thanks to a secret pact among non-humans that is generally known as the Veil. This Veil makes sure the main population of humanity are not told just how much of their old fairytales and stories are actually true.

Naturally, this Veil isn't foolproof because people are people, but it has been more and more heavily enforced in the later centuries, where humanity changed towards industrialism and started seriously polluting nature. It was the last straw for most of the supernatural population.

A few human beings do become aware of non-human existence even today - most of them are halfbreeds or Enlightened; humans that learn magic or otherwise break through the Veil. Others learn the truth by accident, and some even decide to profit from it.

Then there are those that decide to turn their fear to slaughter. Humans are not safe because their reaction to the unknown is nearly always violence... and many hunted by them know this far too well.

Categories of supernatural creatures come in many different forms, and if you've ever heard of it, it probably exists somewhere - or did, before humans destroyed it (either by accident or purposely). This even includes gods, a name given to supernatural beings that grow in power due to worshipers. The more worshipers, the more powerful you are. (Angels are damn heavy hitters among non-humans.)

Creatures like vampires, shapechanging werefolk and other mostly-humanoid beings are more easily mixed in the human population, while most creatures that fall under the umbrella term 'fae' has done their best to avoid them. Some have their own pocket dimensions and veiled realities - while others live so far away from populated areas that they may never even see one of the so-called Unenlightened.

This is the case with most merfolk, as humans still struggle to explore the ocean. While some are curious of the surface world, many never even see the surface itself and live their while lives down in the deep.

Llŷr is the former. Ever since he was young, he had a fascination of the surface world and collected human things from wrecks. As an adult, he split from his pod for a while and swam closer inland to Wales in order learn more about them. He was watching humans under the Victoria Pier in Colwyn Bay when a girl dropped her phone in the water. Unable to stop himself, he grabbed it.

Waterproof technology soon became his biggest obsession, because it had the most amazing thing of all time:

The Internet.

He learned a lot of the human world on the web, and while not everything made sense, he wholeheartedly enjoyed it. Unsurprisingly, he loves to drag Disney's The Little Mermaid for all the dumb stuff in it. (He secretly loves it.)

More information about humanity came from a swimmer who got caught in a riptide. Llŷr accidentally bumped into her while looking for crabs, and they spent several days together on the ocean until the coast guard found her 'miraculously' alive.

It was after this he decided to cross the Atlantic in a whim of exploring the Enlightened and fae in the US. He knew that there was a very large underground society of them in New York, and after a long time of traveling he reached the Hudson River.

From there, he started gaining friends among the supernatural beings in the city, and ended up having some interesting adventures.

More about merfolk.

abilities:

Merman ♒ Llŷr has what you could call standard merfolk powers; breathing underwater, fins, webbed fingers, etc. He's quite tolerant of cold temperatures and water pressure, able to dive down up to maximum of 2,992 meters (9,816 ft) (Cuvier's Beaked Whale) before it starts to crush him. His eyes are able to see in the deep dark of the water, and he has a minor ability to echolocate. His strong tail gives him about the same speed in water as an orca (34.5 miles per hour).

Siren Song ♒ Thanks to the fact that his grandmother is a siren, Llŷr can entrance and hypnotize a person with his singing (as long as the person he is focusing his song to is attracted to men). This mind control is quite strong, and the general focus is for the target is to fall in love with the siren - often to be dragged off into the deep and get eaten. (Although he has never eaten anyone, thank you very much.) Llŷr mainly uses it for protection, to make any assailants stop hurting him. The effect is weaker against non-humans.

Kiss The GirlPerson ♒ The kiss of a mer magically grants a non-mer the ability to breathe underwater for about an hour. This has to be freely given and freely accepted, and it does not affect anything but breathing - pressure and cold would still be a problem.

Animal Companionship ♒ Merfolk have a natural ability to coexist with and befriend other marine mammals, even large carnivores like orcas. While they cannot talk to them a la The Little Mermaid, they communicate well with gestures and sounds. No dolphin or whale would ever hurt a mer and they often create lifelong friendships. However, fish, squid and crustaceans tend to be jittery around mer since they're the staple of merfolk diet. Only species of sharks see mer as food instead.

Fae Blood ♒ Being part of the supernatural population and especially the fae family, Llŷr has an innate ability to sense magic and other non-humans. He cannot tell what they are, just that they are not fully human, and he cannot tell the form of magic, just that there's magic.

strengths:

Supernatural Knowledge ♒ Knows that supernatural things exist. Knows a little about most standard creatures (from his world). Generally very accepting and curious about them, and does not judge a non-human for their nature. He can happily talk about hunting with vampires and possessing with demons. As long as they don't go after 'his' people, Llŷr doesn't care. His grandmother lives of humans, after all.

Ocean-Wide Loyalty ♒ Speaking of 'his people', Llŷr is really loyal and protective of friends. Mer are very social creatures in general, and since Llŷr was a bit of a loner before he came to the US, he treasures friends fiercely. This can also go in the other direction, where he's overprotective.

Curiosity Killed The Catfish ♒ Llŷr wants to know everything about everything. He's always ready to learn something new, and thus he also has a fascinating amount of knowledge about different subjects.

Waterproof Tech ♒ He knows how to work human technology... or at least an Iphone and the internet. This is very unusual for his kind. (Llŷr still wishes there was such a thing as underwater charging stations.)

Stubborn Like A Storm ♒ Fae have lots of willpower. He is hard to sway both by word and magic (but not impossible). If he sets his mind on something, he'll do it. Like swimming across the whole damn ocean.

weaknesses:

Fish out of Water ♒ Llŷr can spend up to three hours out of water comfortably, after that he'll start having trouble breathing and the scales itch as they dry out. Ten hours could kill him, but it can be extended if he's splashed with water and kept cool (similar to moving a dolphin or whale). That would be quite painful and uncomfortable, though.

Fins Forever ♒ Changing into a human is a siren skill that Llŷr has not yet mastered, and thus he has a hard time looking inconspicuous out of water. A wheelchair and sunglasses may help to move him from place to place, but it can be quite awkward. He hopes to unlock this within himself one day, but he's not sure he actually inherited that magic from his grandmother.

Ooh, Shiny ♒ He is easily distracted by shiny things. Mer in general love shiny things, especially if they glow with their own light. This also ties in to the fact that Llŷr has a lot of random whims and ideas, causing other kinds of distractions. It might take him a while to get places if there's too much to explore!

In Your Bubble ♒ What is this personal bubble thing? His curiosity might get too personal at times, and he doesn't always pick up on the awkwardness. This might unsettle or even piss people off, and he still needs to learn why.

skills (optional): Minor fighting skills (in water), decent herbalist (in water), quick swimmer, good with (water) animals, expert fisher.

character information
name: Widowmaker (Amélie Lacroix)
canon: Overwatch
canon point: Post "Infiltration".
age: 33

(canon) background: Here!
(original) world: n/a

abilities:
Sniping • Using her sniper rifle, Widow's Kiss, Widowmaker boasts one shot, one kill. She is deadly with her scope, and her slowed heartbeat further steadies her already impeccable aim. Her gun also has a semi automatic mode for shorter range firing, but her primary skill is in lying in wait for a target. No matter how small her window, she'll make the shot.

Grappling hook • She is highly mobile, using her grappling hook to pull herself into high places, dangle off of sharp drops, or cross wide distances. Widowmaker can get herself anywhere to best facilitate her ambush.
Venom mine • She has the necessary tools to plant small traps for unsuspecting enemies. When triggered, they release a small cloud of poison gas that suffocates and dulls the senses. It can even be enough to incapacitate or kill, if enough of the poison is breathed in.

Recon visor • When fully charged, her visor allows her to detect bio signals, even through solid walls. She uses this to aid her aim, knowing just when a target will finally dip into range.

Physical combat • Widowmaker has undergone rigorous physical combat training, and excels in various forms of hand to hand.

strengths:
Focused and adaptable • Widowmaker is patient, ruthlessly so, and nothing will distract her from the task at hand. Even a direct attack cannot divert her attentions for long, and she will switch tactics for as long as it takes for her to take her shot and complete the mission. If called off she will disengage immediately, but as long as there's something for her to pursue she will find a way.

Loyal • To all appearances, Widowmaker is Talon's perfect operative. She is thoroughly loyal to the organization, and carries out all of their orders perfectly. She would never give up sensitive information. After all, she was made to be a living weapon, and a weapon is made to follow orders -- even when those orders are to kill her husband and return to Talon.

Perfect assassin • A lot of time and money was put into making Widowmaker what she is, and she uses all of her training frequently and skillfully. She is dangerous even when cornered, and uses the grace and balance of her previous life to deadly effect. She can accomplish any mission she's set on, and does so with a practiced and perfected touch, not minding at all the mortal (and certainly not legal) repercussions.

weaknesses:
"Emotionless" • Widowmaker has been recreated by Talon to feel nothing at all. Her heartbeat has been slowed, steadying her aim and dampening all emotions. She claims to feel alive only in the moment of her kill, and certainly that's the only time we ever see her smile... but at the same time, she visits her late husband's grave with a rose, and cries his name upon being revived. If Widowmaker has emotions, and if she does they are few and deeply buried, she is presently oblivious to them.

A Weapon • Widowmaker is no longer what anyone could call an ordinary person. It's right in the name, really. She doesn't go by Amélie anymore; Amélie is dead. Hand in hand with that, much of her previous life has been repressed. She does clearly remember it (Ana tells her that her husband was a fool to love her, and she defensively hisses that Ana knows nothing of him), but those memories seem to have no impact on who she is today at all. It's doubtful she even remembers how to handle herself off the battlefield, or what to do with herself while not serving Talon. She has been thoroughly programmed to be what she is, and no more.

Vanity • One emotion Widowmaker has certainly been allowed to keep is her vanity. She is not above mocking her opponents, and can't resist dropping a few smug quips if and when she bests them. She is the number one sniper in the world, and she's not afraid to remind anyone of the fact. Especially not the number two sniper in the world.

skills (optional): All of her skills are in the "living weapon" category, primarily: reconnaissance, perfect aim, the amazing ability to never get bored on a stakeout.
housing (optional): No preference!

character information
name: Tom Collins
canon: The Adventure Zone: (K)Nights
canon point: After episode 3
age: Unknown, likely somewhere around his thirties.

(canon) background: Here is some very basic info and to summarize what happens in the episodes themselves:
After a regular day of working at his bar in the Commons, Tom suddenly finds himself knocked out and waking up in a strange basement in the Underton (the seedy part of the Capital City) with old acquaintance Lenny Manelito and the unknown Tiefling monk named Troth. There they are forced to move through a gauntlet, facing dangerous obstacles and having to solve numerous puzzles, by a former thieves guild turned revolutionary group called the Beasts of the Ring. After successfully finishing the gauntlet, it's revealed that they had been specifically selected and forced through the trial because the Beasts needed new leaders.

All three of them join the Beasts of the Ring and undergo training for three weeks. They are then given a job they need to do before they are allowed to become the official leaders: kidnap the supposedly corrupt Magistrate Atreyus Kannon so a new election can be enforced and someone more progressive can be elected. Together they infiltrate the Magistrate's mansion and after some struggles, they manage to locate the Magistrate. Atreyus reveals that he's not actually corrupt, but was being forced to do the bidding of the law-keeping religious order the Knights of Tyr because they're holding his son hostage. They free the Magistrate and set out to help him get his son Atreyu "B.B. Gun" Kannon back.

They move to the prison where Atreyu is being held and after a poor attempt at pretending to be lawyers, they manage to rescue Atreyu during a fight before escaping together and bringing the Magistrate and his son to the safety of the Beasts' hideout.

abilities:
In DND terms, Tom is a level 4 Warlock meaning he can cast up to fourth level spells as listed here. He has two spellslots that he can use daily or after a long rest (an hour or more) and he has cantrips that he can use at will without using up spellslots. He can also cast certain spells as rituals, meaning they won't use up a spellslot, but they do take 10 minutes to be cast. As a pact boon, Tom has gained the Find Familiar spell that he uses to summon a bat with and he has a book that has taught him to cast spells from other classes (like Guidance and Silent Image). A list of spells that Tom has used in canon can be found here.

The Great Old One also has given him the gift of telepathy. Tom can't use it to read minds, but he can use it project his voice in other people's heads and also connect people in what is basically a telepathic group call so it's only use is communication. The only downside is that occasionally the Great Old One's voice can be heard in Tom's head demanding unsavory things by anyone using the telepathic connection.

Being a Half-Elf, he has Darkvision (basically night vision) and a Fey Ancestry that makes him more difficult to Charm and makes him resistant to being put to sleep magically.

strengths:
Adaptable: Even though Tom comes across as a bit of a fearful wreck most of the time, he can adapt to a situation pretty quickly. It's evident in how fast he adapted to a life of crime by becoming the leader of a revolutionary thieves guild and also how quickly he came around about murdering people. (The first time he killed someone, he threw up, whereas the second time he remarked that he could get used to it and showed little remorse.) He's quick on his feet and will make the best out of whatever situation he finds himself in.

Assertive: For all that he's a nervous creature, Tom is not entirely meek. He has no trouble expressing his displeasure with something (and actually does so loudly and often) and he puts his foot down when he really needs to. A good example is how he fired and blackballed Lenny despite growing up with and loving his music. He does not budge on his decision to do so regardless of those facts and how it soured their friendship, Lenny knows what he did.

Friendly: Tom has a friendly disposition and given his own fear of the stigma that comes with being a Warlock, he's not quick to harshly judge someone and does not discriminate. His first reaction upon meeting Troth — a Tiefling whose species is feared — is to compliment her horns and despite his background with Lenny, he still considers Lenny a good friend (even though that's very much one-sided) and he does not hold a grudge over what led to his firing. Especially with robots and animals, he easily shows affection.

weaknesses:
Nervous: Tom is a very, very nervous person and he's not subtle about that in the slightest. His voice has a permanent shaky quality to it and his palms are always sweaty, he's jumpy and tends to be hyper-aware of his surroundings. Part of it has to do with the fact that he hides his status as a Warlock — a huge, integral part of him considering that his pact with the Great Old One is what gives him his magical abilities — and he doesn't want anyone to know for fear of the stigma.

Insecure: Obviously being a Warlock is Tom's greatest insecurity. To avoid all negative associations that are attached to the Warlock class, he goes as far as to pretend he's a wizard, renaming his spells and spinning tall tales about having wizardly roots. His lies are usually very bad and obvious, but as he lacks the confidence to deal with the stigma and any bad reactions that might come from people finding out, he keeps the pretense up no matter how bad he is at hiding what he actually is.

Easily upset: Tying into the whole constantly being nervous thing, his high-strung personality leads to him being easily upset all the time. In dangerous situations where there is even more cause to be nervous and thus there being more added pressure, he can be quick to overreact, complain and/or snap.

skills (optional): Barkeeping, proficiency with Thieves' Tools, and arcane knowledge/magic. He probably won't start working right away, but likely he'll open his own bar here at some point if possible.
housing (optional): No preference!

player information
name: Puppy
age: so many

other characters: Marcel from The Originals

character information
name: José "Pepe" Montaño but coming in as Daniel "El Dandy" Bracho
canon: El Dandy
canon point: EPISODE 45 (out of 70) when he goes full Leto.
age: 35ish

(canon) background: Here's a Wikipedia link but it's written with about the same quality as the show itself so let me give u a nice summary:
José Montaño is a nice law professor and family man, who after a brief course on undercover work in the US, is asked to infiltrate a drug cartel in Mexico city. He agrees because there would be no show otherwise.
José LARPs Daniel Bracho, a jeweler and all-around baddass. Terrible things happen, he goes full Leto-as-the-Joker and things spiral down very slowly because goddamn, the pacing of this show is garbage.

abilities: ~~PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY~~ (at plot convenience)
That aside he has a lot of assorted knowledge and is really really good at bullshitting and also method acting, I guess.

strengths: Super empathetic! He can put himself in other people's shoes very easily and feel their pain and want to protect them (this is also a negative), he thrives under stress! He's basically unbreakable during a crisis. (he gets fucked up after), he's really good at logistics and playing the long game.
weaknesses: Super empathetic!! He loves everyone he meets and it messes him up. He can't trust anyone for shit because of how everything went down, and he's really bad at coping. He has PTSD and instead of addressing it he just downs the first pills he's offered.

skills (optional): He's excellent at logistics and planning, but more importantly, he will lie if necessary in order to get a job in government or city planning. He will also lie about his identity, claim to be a ttly respectable person who's never been part of any drug cartels at all, though the amount of lying will depend entirely on what he thinks he can get away with. If the city already has info on him, he'll play a completely different game.
(I'd prefer it if he could bullshit his way into things, but I'm very open to whatever)
housing (optional): GIVE HIM SANE ADULTS PLS. tho he's also really good with children, José has three kids of different ages.

age: 28.

other characters: n/a.

character information
name: Karamatsu Matsuno.
canon: Osomatsu-san.
canon point: Episode 24 + Eluvio CRAU.
age: 23, soon to be 24.

(canon) background: NO PLAN DA.
(original) world: n/a.

CRAU (Eluvio):
①. First off, Karamatsu isn't unfamiliar with the concept of space and aliens, though he has never personally been. Being suddenly part of a ship fleet, going through the galaxies to find a planet to sustain life was something new to him, but he didn't gain any suspicion of the crewmen until later. For the most part, he was willing to assist in whatever ways he needed. Karamatsu stayed aboard Eluvio for three months, and this allowed him to develop in several areas.

②. Karamatsu quickly grabbed attention to those who were fight savvy (Agent Washington, Agent Carolina, Sombra, Reaper) and out of concern (or tolerance) they offered to help him in their downtime with close combat fighting and weapon usage. Even in a three months time, he still has a lot of room for improvement.

③. He assisted in a total of one mission which was to escort alien life forms off of their planet before a nuclear holocaust. This was his first interaction with actual alien life and he took pity on them.

④. Next, Karamatsu was exposed for the first time to space-horror. With his twin brother, they went exploring the Eluvio for food and necessities during a power outage and meltdown. Instead, he found a dismembered body of a passenger (Rey from Star Wars) whom he informed the medbay about. Ever since, he never went to the atrium again.

⑤. The next mission needed crewmen to go undercover to the planet of Bajikan, a planet that included several districts that carried planets and air which altered a character's mood. He wanted to volunteer but was quickly shut down by his brother, Ichimatsu, as Ichimatsu was nervous something would happen to Karamatsu (similar to Rey.) Nevertheless, Karamatsu abandoned Ichimatsu to try and prove himself worthy of something— an attempt to gain attention and recognition.

⑥. In Bajikan, Karamatsu got into fist fights in the district of Ira, a district to alter one's mood to aggression. There, he met up with Sombra once more who had gotten in her own trouble with enemies chasing her for stealing their items. Sombra pressured Karamatsu to come along with him only to encourage him to actually fire the gun she had given him months prior. He shot vigorously, but only hit one target that was chasing them. This, here, was Karamatsu's first murder. He still feel guilty about it and hasn't told anybody about it yet.

⑦. Karamatsu had a lot of time to spend with Ichimatsu on the Eluvio and through that time their relationship as brothers seemed to grow since they had to depend on one another. That being said, Karamatsu learned that Ichimatsu actually does care about him even if they have not had full disclosure with one another yet about it.

⑧. In conclusion, Karamatsu developed in these ways:
- Became more familiar with alien life forms and characters from other worlds.
- Grew more aware of the dangers of people and creatures out there.
- More willing to show aggression and engage in fights rather than run away from them to protect others.
- Learned to not trust just anyone.
- Became more understanding of Ichimatsu and their complicated brotherhood; Ichimatsu actually does care for him and he should never abandon him again.
- Understood how weak he actually is in comparison to others.
- Learned how to defend himself, even if he needs a lot more improvement.

abilities:
Musician: Karamatsu is decent at playing the acoustic guitar and singing, but he must not be something phenomenal since he hasn't gained any fame, so it is hard to tell how skilled he is. There's probably talent there, but he hasn't had a chance to show it.
Poetry/Drama: Karamatsu naturally talks in flowery kind of speech and carries a boisterous presence. He's very good at talking wordy and use poetic, formal speech to put the spotlight on him, almost Shakespearean-like.

strengths:
✓ Kind-Hearted: Although a lot of the time he masks any negative feelings with a smile and a sense of 'coolness,' there is still a lot of genuine feelings Karamatsu harbors for those he cares about, wanting to do his best to please them. This is because he is wanting to gain similar treatment for himself— he's showing others how he would like to be treated.

✓ Generous: Sometimes he goes above and ridiculously beyond for other people.. primarily to get their approval and acceptance. This is especially true if he is yearning to impress somebody important, such as somebody he admires because of the skills they possess of somebody he wants to flirt with. He's easily somebody that people can mooch off of which makes him a sucker in some cases.

✓ Protective: Karamatsu is cowardly most of the time, but has been seen throwing punches to keep his younger brothers and friends safe. He has a big brother instinct and is drawn to those who are weaker than he is (there aren't many.) He feels like he should have been the oldest brother of all six, and sometimes it's hard for him to hide that.

✓ Loyal: Karamatsu finds friends more valuable than anything else. He is attracted to anyone for friendship as long as they give him a minuscule of positive attention. This is great for loner types or people who try to push him away. He will reach out to others and stay by their side almost instantly.

weaknesses:
✘ Jealous: He tries very hard to appear as if he's the nice guy, most of his passive aggressive behavior stems from jealousy and being envious of those he thinks are better than him. Most of the time, Karamatsu does his best to hide any feelings of jealousy from others as he is aware of this flaw of his which can pent up after awhile and put him in a melancholic and/or aggressive mood.

✘ Insecure: Karamatsu, most of the time, doesn't know who he is or who he wants to be. He's got a low self-esteem but doesn't want anybody to know that as he hates showing vulnerability and weakness. From being ignored so much in his life, he is beginning to take it to heart and dislike who he is. Again, he is obsessed with remaining strong and showing the world that everything is fine to conceal his weaknesses. This gives him an inconsistent personality that sometimes looks confident and happy to only hide sadness and aggression.

✘ Delusional: Karamatsu is absorbed in his Karamatsu World that revolves around him-- safe-haven for him to ignore his insecurities. He's convinced himself already that he has a fan base and admirers-- none of which exist-- in attempt for him to feel better about his shitty personality.

✘ Guilty: He feels bad about almost anything, and although most of the time he asks for forgiveness, it just further proves how he lacks a sincere spine. This could be a positive trait to some as he's sensitive to other people's feelings, but also a sign of vulnerability to others.

skills: Acting, musician (acoustic guitar/singing), sewing.
housing: Please house him by himself in a communal housing, or with his brothers if they app in this round!

prose/action sample: Eluvio Log + Canon to Riverview Setting:
[ It was strange. That suffocating of feeling of being unwanted crept painfully in his mind, stretching from the back of his skull to in between his bold eyebrows. It wasn't the first time he had felt this way— no, not at all— but this evening, it was strong. Strong enough to make him shift out of his bed and go for a walk— another lonely, tranquil walk.

He should disappear forever, he thought. What good was he even doing here? What good was he doing? He had no idea what direction his life was going in. Would anybody even care if he just went away?

Cowboy boots that he had slipped on before stepping outside clipped against the pavement, arms cloaking around his front and crossing to keep him warm. His expression looked like one lost in thought as he walked down the streets, all the negative thoughts pushing forth words from his mouth: ]

Heh. Ignore it. Y—You're better than this. There's mainly wonderful things about you, Karamatsu. Ah, just as a rose is beautiful, it still has thorns. You'll be admired someday. Right?

[ Someday.
Even with his own words of encouragement and his negative thoughts subsiding, before he knows it, he's gone through a portal and plunged through the gate into a new realm. It just goes to show that emotions are stronger than words. ]

Naive • As much as her seeing the best in people can be a strength, it's also a weakness. Case in point: the version of Clark she knew warned her against putting blind trust in a Luthor. Chances are it may come back to haunt her. And for all her faith in her aunt Astra, Kara could not accept that the two of them might be at odds, and in trading her (she'd been a hostage) back in return for J'onn J'onzz's freedom, that put everybody else she cared about in danger. It's a flaw she still bears as of Season 2, despite reveals that even her parents weren't as squeaky clean as she'd thought.

Hotheaded • This girl has one bad temper. In season 1, it was largely fuelled by her intense grief and abandonment issues, and that largely unexplored subtle resentment between herself and Alex (revealed prominently in the pilot and the episode 'Falling.') Now, she still gets her rage on, becomes frustrated easily and rushes headlong into unknown situations without having done any recon or formulating any plan. Something Barry Allen cautioned her to work on, and Mon-El chided her for doing. She thinks she can handle everything on her own, no matter what.

Arrogant • Which provides a nice segue to this final point: in season 2, she's a bit full of herself. Saying things like It doesn't bother you that I got all the credit for this one and I'm the personification of the American Way and every single time she berates Mon-El for not being eager to use his powers to 'save' humans, and lay down his life for people he's never met. She's in need of a good helping of Humble Pie, and reminder that she really isn't a god and her word isn't law.

Charmless: To borrow a term from Mrs. McCarthy. Sid might be quite slick at talking himself out of things, but when it comes to the important, emotional stuff? He has a tendency to get a bit tongue-tied. Either he stumbles a bit, or he talks around the situation or he just comes out sarcastic, angry and rude. Or some combination thereof.

Poor Self-Control: Not quite the same thing as impulsivity, Sid is quite capable of carefully planning out something without ever giving any thought to whether it’s something he really should be doing. Which is not to say he isn’t also impulsive. He’s been known to impulsively pocket wads of cash, and his usual reaction to hearing that someone he cares about is in danger is to abruptly run to them so he can quietly fret in their general vicinity. But he also does stuff like immediately and noisily buy a motorcycle with the fifty pounds he found on a train that someone was thrown off of.

Iconoclastic: Sid has a kneejerk annoyance at any sort of authority. He has been known to purposely bait people, including (especially) police, just because it amused him. If given an order, or even a request, by someone he feels hasn’t earned that right, his instinctive reaction is to do the exact opposite. This has also been known to happen with people he does respect, if he thinks the request is inane enough (e.g., ask him to find a discreet place to store a coffin and he might decide that’s your kitchen).

(Google Drive says that's 259 works. I hope that's better?)

EDIT: I've just realized that my answer to the "canon point" question has mysteriously vanished! Since I can't edit the original anymore, I'll put it here.

character information
name: Stephen Strange
canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
canon point: post-film but before he meets Thor
age: 40

(canon) background: Wiki link

abilities:

★ Eldritch Magic Manipulation: Able to create, shape, and manipulate Eldritch Magic, he is able to form "Eldritch Whips" and "Mandalas of Light".
★ Levitation: Using the Cloak of Levitation, he is able to levitate, hover, and fly through the air even without the help of wind.
★ Teleportation: Using a Sling Ring, he is able to open portals that lead to different locations, gaining the ability to move across both the physical world and the dimensional Multiverse. He can also make portals small enough to reach through and grab things. However, he's only able to do this with the aid of the Ring.
★ Interdimensional Travel: Only possible with the Sling Ring.
★ Astral Projection: Strange is capable of separating his astral spirit from his body, gaining access to the Astral Dimension.
★ Chronokinesis: Achieved only when using the Eye of Agamotto. He is able to control the flow of time, be it on a small or massive scale (this includes restoring objects taken or decayed, reversing destruction to a city, or creating time loops in other dimensions).
★ Transmutation: He can turn tea into beer. You're welcome, Thor.
★ Master Physician: An esteemed neurosurgeon with the ability to handle the most complex of surgeries and cases.
★ Eidetic Memory: aka a photographic memory with perfect recall that allows him to absorb information easily and quickly.
★ Martial Artist: He is able to hold his own in a fight with more experienced fighters after his training but with the extreme damage done to his nerves and bones, throwing punches can cause intense pain for him.

strengths:

Inquisitive: This is one of the traits that ultimately makes Stephen a great sorcerer (and what once made him such a great doctor). Once he lets go of his ego and disbelief, he wants to learn all he can about the mystical arts. He devours books and knowledge like food and excels so quickly that even the Ancient One is impressed (if a little wary). In some ways, this curiosity could be a bad thing but in each instance where it looks as though he's about to mess up, his own sense of right and wrong steers him to use the knowledge he's acquired to help others. Not control them.

Stubborn: Definitely one of his more obvious if defining traits. He's stubborn in pursuing a means to fix his hands, stubborn in maintaining his arrogance even when presented with proof that magic exists, and stubbornly beating on the door until the Ancient One agrees to teach him. That's the turning point for him. Afterward, he humbles himself and the stubbornness from then on is what allows him to become a better person overall. Plus, annoying the shit out of an interdimensional being bent on consuming worlds.

Selfless: Combining the other two traits in one brilliant idea, Strange traps himself and Dormammu in an infinite timeloop where he will be killed over and over again but it prevents Dormammu from taking the Earth. He will lose and lose again as long as it keeps everyone else alive and it shows what kind of person Stephen Strange really is when everything else has been stripped away. He was once a man lost in his own ambition and, by this point, has relinquished it and the wealth that came with it so he can do what he originally started out doing: saving lives.

weaknesses:

Arrogant: Something we see very prominently during the beginning of the film and something Strange continues to exhibit even after his crash and losing the use of his hands. While going through physical therapy he belittles his therapist, he mocks the Ancient One and all the bodily maps she shows him in order to explain how the mystical arts work, and after he's been accepted to train, still thinks his logic trumps what he's being taught. It's still something that crops up here and there even after he has has been forced to "surrender [his] ego" but he's also learned to ask for help when he needs it. Admits that he doesn't know everything. There is hope for him yet.

Stubborn: Like described above, it is one of his dominant traits. It's something that can benefit his cause greatly while also screwing him over in other instances. Being stubborn for the wrong reasons is a very likely thing to happen when Stephen thinks he's in the right and the other person is wrong. He's learned to compromise during his period of growth with the Ancient One but that doesn't mean he can't take some missteps like everyone else.

Fear of failure: This is something that most probably wouldn't notice since Strange tends to ramp up his arrogance. The Ancient One noticed it, seeing through him. That he tried so hard to learn everything he could because he was afraid of failing. It's a fear that makes him want to resist the life he's being thrust into by Dormammu being summoned and the added responsibility of protecting the Earth. What if he fails, what if he messes up that bad? Despite his rising to the challenge in the end, it's not something that will likely be conquered indefinitely.

character information
name: Angela. Technically speaking, it's Aldrif Odinsdottir, but she goes by Angela.
canon: Marvel 616
canon point: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 4, #10
age: However many thousands of years old Thor is? Angela's older.

(canon) background: wiki link
(original) world: n/a

abilities:
  • Asgardian Physiology – Being Asgardian, Angela is stronger, faster, more durable, and even denser than the average human. She possesses stamina greater than Thor, and is faster than the Dísir, who are said to be as fast as lightning. Additionally, she can survive in open space without the need to breathe. (She can also talk in space, which breaks physics, but that's comics for you.) She ages slowly enough to give the appearance of immortality, and though she is not invulnerable, she heals faster than a human would.

  • Fighting Prowess – Angela rose through the ranks of the Angels of Heven to become Leader of the Hunt, meaning she has slain countless monsters and fought innumerable enemies. She bested the best warriors of Hel to overthrow Hela and claim the crown for herself. Gamora, widely considered the galaxy's best assassin and finest warrior, considers Angela a formidable foe, and the pair are evenly matched in a fight.

  • Weapons and Armor – Angela possesses the magic dress of Siriana, the bride of the all-seeing Heimdall, which is the one thing in the universe which Heimdall cannot see. For her, the dress takes the form of winged armor, which allows her to fly at incredible speeds. She wields Xiphos, the Sword of the Stars, and a pair of Ichor, which are golden blades which form into any weapon she can think of, from swords, to hand axes, to whips. Additionally, Angela is constantly surrounded by magical floating ribbons which she can use to bind or strangle her opponents.

strengths:
  1. Reliable - Angela's mantra, the life code that was passed onto her by the Angels who raised her, is "Nothing is for Nothing." That means that, while Angela does not give out favors, she always repays her debts. She does not leave loose ends hanging without tying them up. If someone helps her, she is sure to return the favor before long.
  2. Perseverant - Angela does not let any obstacle stand in the way of her achieving her goal. No matter what that obstacle may be. Whether it's hordes of enemy armies, or the divide between Realms. If she has a debt to settle, she will accomplish the task she sets herself to. If there is an obstacle between Angela and her goal, she would rather plow straight through it than find a way around.
  3. Loving - You might not think it to look at her, but Angela can be kind hearted to those she is closest to. Particularly Sera, her beloved. Angela overthrew the Queen of Hel just to save Sera. That said, she has room in her heart for others, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, and her Asgardian kin, Thor and Loki. She has a particular soft spot for young girls, perhaps as she sees herself in them.

weaknesses:
  1. Rash - Angela doesn't waste time debating plans. Instead, she rushes into the fray without thinking about the best course. This is shown when she and the Guardians of the Galaxy travel to the Badoon homeworld to rescue Star-Lord from gladiatorial combat. Rather than fight off the gladiators or try to convince the Badoon to let Star-Lord go, Angela beheads the leader of the Badoon and declares the battle over. While this saves Quill, it destabilizes one of the biggest martial forces in the galaxy, leaving a mess for other parties to have to come in and fix.
  2. Uncommunicative - As evidenced by the above point, Angela believes that actions speak louder than words. As such, she finds it difficult to open up to people. Only those closest to her (Sera, mainly) know what is going on in her head. Even then, Sera infers from context more than Angela tells her outright. Angela lets her deeds to the talking. She's not one to "use her words." She also doesn't explain herself very well. When her infant sister, Laussa, was possessed by the spirit of Surtur, she embarked on a mission to rid Laussa of Surtur's influence without giving any of her comrades the full details. As far as they knew, Angela was just kidnapping and endangering the life of a baby, and expecting them to help her anyway.
  3. Rigid - Angela's "Nothing is for Nothing" mentality defines her, to the point where she will refuse to act if there's nothing in it for her. She has difficulty expanding her worldview to include other ways of behaving, and will resist any attempts to dissuade her from acting the way she wants to act. She has no problem causing trouble for other people, so long as her strict code is followed.

skills (optional):
  1. Combat (is a skilled warrior)
  2. Tracking (of beasts or fugitives)
  3. Endurance (can withstand the harshest conditions)

housing (optional): No preference.

character information
name: Angela Ziegler
canon: Overwatch
canon point: Just before Recall, when she is travelling the world to war areas to aid those in need.
age: 37

(canon) background: heroes never die

abilities: Her abilities come from her very futuristic Valkyrie suit, which she uses in battle to protect others and help them where she can.
angelic descent Whilst airborne, Mercy is able to slow her descent from great heights and slowly fall to the ground, though she can stop this and simply fall if needed.
caduceus staff Her staff is her primary weapon, as it allows her to both heal her allies and boost the damage that they cause others.
guardian angel Mercy is able to fly towards an ally. If she is tethered to someone with her staff, she will fly towards them rather than whoever she is facing.
gunmanship Although she is a staunch pacifist, Mercy has a caduceus blaster, and has been trained in using this gun presumably during her time in Overwatch so that she could use it to protect herself while out on missions with the other operatives.

strengths:
DETERMINED
Despite her aversion to war and her disagreement with Overwatch's militaristic ways, she is sure of her need to help others, and thus joined Overwatch as a way of doing that. Her determination to help and to further her science and abilities led her to creating the Valkyrie suit, and her determination to help follows her to even after Overwatch has disbanded.
KIND
mei, you haven't aged a day. what's your secret?
Along with wanting to help, she is kind to all those she knows and speaks to. It is one of her greatests strengths as her offers for help and aid are for all and not just a select few.
SMART
you know, ana... there are procedures we could look into to repair your eye.
One of Angela's greatest strengths is her genius. From being the head of surgery at a large hospital to one of Overwatch's best medics, her genius has allowed her to make leaps and bounds in both science and medicine, all in the name of helping others.

weaknesses:
STUBBORN
overwatch was shut down for a reason. maybe it's best it stay that way.
Although her strengths make her someone to behold, her stubbornness make her someone you would not want to cross. She's set in her beliefs and unlikely to change her mind, especially when it comes to war and how it should be handled.
JUDGING
reinhardt. i don't approve of you dragging that poor girl around on your adventures.
Although she is kind and caring, it doesn't stop Angela from being quite judgemental when it comes to others. If they do something she disagrees with, she's likely to speak out about it and not be kind about the way she goes about it, even if it's to someone she considers a good friend.
PACIFIST
ana. i don't approve of what you've done with my biotic technology.
After having lost both of her parents to war, it made Angela a very strong pacifist, something she will never budge on. Even after joining Overwatch she continued to voice her disagreement with the way they handled things, and it was only Overwatch offering her the ability to save lives on a large scale that had her joining the organisation. Outside of this, she absolutely cannot stand war and refuses to fight, only heal.

skills (optional): Angela is ahead of the time in both medicine and nanobiology, and thus would be looking to take up a job as a doctor or healer where possible.
housing (optional): At this point, she would be happy to go anywhere.

character information
name: Cain ("Jacob Kane") {Romulus}
canon: Original ("Reinforced")
canon point: 2014. Short time after returning from Texas.
age: Chronologically and mentally 2791. Physically 24. Halfway between the two emotionally.

(canon) background & (original) world: See here for a bit of tl;dr.

abilities:
Having lived for really fucking long, Cain has picked up numerous skills and languages. Although many of them are not in the best use, they still sit in the back of his mind and he could probably pick them back up if given the reason. He has about ten languages he actively uses and keeps at a native level (having fluency in over forty) and most of his practiced skills tend to be indicative of a modern mindset, like cooking and driving and coding and skateboarding, instead of things like hunting your own food or rigging a boat. As a result of genetic quirks Cain is the mirror twin, counter to Abel, meaning that he is left-handed and his internal organs are backwards to match.

Despite his body's ridiculous and impossible healing factor, he is still 100% human. He cannot build up tolerances to drugs or alcohol, although he's built up a mental tolerance to pain. His physical fitness cannot exceed the natural bounds of a human body, and he is completely susceptible to magical effects and psychic intrusion. Currently, he has a code phrase buried in his head which puts him into a totally suggestible state ("hellhound, heel") wherein he'll do pretty much anything except act against his brother.

- Immortal and ageless. Cain does not age. He cannot remain harmed. If any damage is done to him, it simply reverses: blood lost will seep back into the wound and it will pull back together as if nothing happened. The same thing happens for lost limbs or organs. Pain still exists as long as the wounds are there, but subsides once they have been healed. He does not experience death (i.e., soul leaving the body) so much as indeterminate unconsciousness when violently incapacitated.
- Deathsight. Cain can see the time left that someone has to live. This manifests as a timer in front of someone's neck — gold indicates a living person, while silver means a spirit of some sort. My assumption is that this timer will only read the time of a character's canon death (whether they live to old age, die in season two or have arrived past their death), and will not appear be moving while in Riverview Quarantine due to wonky alternate reality metaphysics. This sight also allows him to see supernatural phenomena such as spirits. If accepted, there will be a permissions post allowing people to specify times, otherwise it will just be an unspoken, meaningless backdrop.

strengths:
☆ Cain is highly adaptable. His time in the world has left him with a strong instinct to learn as much as he can in order to not make waves. If his morals disagree with the current state of the world, he tends to work from the inside rather than making a big fuss of it, and takes away exactly what he wants from it personally. With vast amounts of experience to draw from, he lives by wisdom and knowledge he's gained while retaining the demeanor of his physical age. Acting like a wizened old hardass just isn't his thing.

Loyal. Being a horrendously saccharine sweet and kind family man, Cain has an unshakeable loyalty to anyone he finds worthy, someone he actually cares about. He'd probably throw his immortal self into a meat grinder if he thought it would help someone he cared for. Whatever the situation actually calls for, he'll be prepared to do it.

☆ Very, very intelligent. Even from before his immortality kicked in, Cain was able to teach himself reading, writing and arithmetic using context clues and determination. That sort of gumption and sharp wit carries into today where he stays at the forefront of many new technologies (his favorite being virtual security) and maintains an edge on the world around him. This defined quite a lot of his life in that he makes many otherwise-risky moves that the less-skilled would be unable to manage and comes out fine.

☆ Cain is very honest. Although he won't just offer up his secrets to any joe schmoe, he doesn't see the point in being cagey or coy about most things when eventually they'll stop mattering. Just really tries to distill life down to the step before complex to get the most out of it by living this way.

weaknesses:
Guilty conscience. Seriously. Nothing anyone says will likely ever convince this guy that he didn't indirectly kill his brother. He takes direct failures in as his own responsibility and holds them close to make sure they never happen again. It drives him to do better, but also to not hold himself completely infallible (just mostly). Also never shows this guilt if he can help it. Get yer own complexes.

★ Motivated by boredom. Rather than wishing to do good deeds in order to receive them back, or believing in actual karma, Cain tends to socialize or be helpful to other people because he has nothing else to do. He generally doesn't have any attachment to people other than the ones he intentionally makes friends with, so it's for his own benefit of passing time. He's a people-person without much intent to go beyond superficial.

★ No sense of physical worth. He'll probably do stupid shit and get himself hurt, for himself or others, just 'cause it'll be more convenient in the long run. This convenience is also measured against the annoyance it would be to explain his special condition to others. He isn't very worried about people on the smaller scale knowing of his immortality, it's just not something he wants to have to explain like every other day, okay?

★ Exaggerated self-esteem. At the end of the day, he's one of the few people who will keep walking and have to deal with ages and ages ahead of him. When things can't be compromised where everyone is happy, his own comfort comes out on top.

skills: Coding, managerial tasks, kickass cook. This is his lazy set of skills.
housing

network username: j.k.

network sample: Forgive me for not asking all the questions I should have at the lovely, crowded hospital... But can we get a sound-off on what all we actually know about this situation? I've heard the basics, asked a few questions myself, but I think it'd be helpful to hear what other people asked and if we all got the same answers.

Hi, my name is Jacob Kane. I like to know things. How about you guys?

prose/action sample:
It probably said a lot about Cain that even in the face of his brother stabbing him near to death while they were on the run from death-defying, tantrum-throwing children, he still couldn't possibly be mad at Abel. It was definitely Abel who had done it, not the young man he had been back in life, but the man he had become under the Reapers' thumb for three thousand years. And who was to blame for that? It was Cain: everything had been Cain's fault, from the very moment Romulus had shied away from telling Remus his time up to the present point of never mentioning his abduction by the Death Erasers. He had let Remus be chipped away little by little because of his own self-feeding loop of fear.

It had been almost a week since they made it back from Texas. Cain was still living in-house with Abel (and Holly and Angie and Rob), and yet he had hardly seen hide or hair of his older brother. Any steps they had taken toward coming together again had been put on hold — they weren't gone, and Cain knew that for a fact or... well, he was sure he wouldn't be allowed under the same roof as Abel's adopted daughter and the Enforcers' current pair of pet hostages. He couldn't appeal to the Enforcers to speak to Abel, either, even if they were his sons, daughters, grandchildren he had seen grow from the shadows, descendents entire generations removed. They knew him even if they didn't know Cain, and yet Cain had fucked up. It was something about himself, his very existence, that now put the balance of life and death on the edge of a knife.

The Death Erasers had turned Cain into their tool and he couldn't bring himself to tell anyone until it was far too late.

Grunting forcefully, Cain swung his legs over the side of his bed and trudged out into the hallway. He wasn't one to go binge drinking and he had more than enough practice to go without sleep for a few days until his body was too tired to pretend anymore, but he could really use something strong right now in the face of no presenting solutions. When he entered the kitchen, the light over the stove was on and he saw Rob sitting at the island with a cup of coffee and an old book of kiddy puzzles.

Cain tilted his head, then added some weight to his steps so that Rob would hear him coming. He'd been walking lightly recently as if some invisibility now would help save him from events already passed. Rob looked up at the footfalls and canted his head, unintentionally bringing sharp attention to the empty space at his neck. Cain couldn't help but stare as he moved to the cupboard and began searching around for something good; any alcohol in the house would have to be the Yates', as Abel didn't eat or drink and Holly was too young for his brother to have considered even keeping up the appearance.

"Couldn't sleep, either?" asked Rob, attention turning back down to the maze asking him to help a bunny slipper find its mate on the other end.

Having found something strong enough that wasn't going to make him leave snobby looks in the Yates' direction come the morning, Cain got out a glass and poured a generous finger before he sat down opposite Rob. "Sleep's overrated. What's keeping you up?"

"Nothing, just don't sleep well every now and then. There it is," he muttered to himself, apparently actually invested in his work.

"Coffee helps with that," Cain said mildly, unable to keep his eyes off what he could see of Rob's neck. That was his fault. This whole thing was his fault and now he had been locked out of trying to fix it. Abel was furious, the Enforcers beyond his reach in their current tizzy of fixing the problem, and Cain could only sit back and watch. "Does it freak you out to know you're an abomination to death?"

Rob paused, put his pencil down, slowly looked up at Cain. "Not as much as you'd think," he said slowly. "It's what they're doing by keeping us here and away from, you know, living that bugs us."

Cain sipped at his drink, hand clenched about the glass precariously. It didn't matter if it shattered, save for the sound that might wake someone, and at this point he'd almost relish bringing someone into the misery with him... unless it was Holly. She was only a few generations removed from him and he didn't have the heart to fuck up another part of his family right now. "Sorry about that," he said into his glass.

"Yours isn't the sorry we want." Rob spoke for Angie, too. That was how those two worked, trusting each other to speak for themselves on the whole but respecting each other to have their individualities, too.

Cain wished he even had that much with Abel right now. His hand came down a little too hard on the countertop, and Rob grimaced at the sound. Cain stared at the book between them, already tracing out the three different solutions to pair bunny slipper with bunny slipper before he looked back up to Rob. "Yeah, it is. They want me to keep you out of the loop because blah blah paranoia, but this one's pretty big: if those Clockless assholes hadn't taken me two years ago, you wouldn't be here. That part is my fault."

Rob suddenly looked uncomfortable. "Is that what you two have been fighting about? Whether you're guilty for being abducted?" he asked. The touchy-feely thing was more Angie's side of it, and Cain could tell it was making Rob uncomfortable to have some feelings thrust upon him, as well. Tough. Rob walked into the Death Erasers' trap and had his clock erased, so he could deal with some fucking responsibility for currently throwing the world into an unhinged, under-the-surface chaos. "Because... that's bullshit."

Wait, what?

Cain looked at Rob for a moment, searching, and saw what he was afraid of. He shook his head, abandoned his drink, and stood. "'Fraid not, kid," he said. "You've still got time, plenty time to learn, but here's the thing: no one else was in control of that but me. Maybe not the kidnapping, but I chose to deal with it on my own when I shouldn't have, even after I saw what they were doing. I'm going to go get some air. Tell Abel you tried to stop me if he gets mad," he added, not really wanting to cause more complications in the house than there already were.

With that said, he grabbed his shoes and jacket by the door and left. At least they'd found his car by now.
