riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

character information
name: Lady Sif
canon: Marvel Cinematic universe
canon point: End of Agents of SHIELD episode "Who you really are"
age: Looks to be in her late twenties/earlie thirties, is over a thousand years old

(canon) background: here

abilities:

- Superhuman strength, Asgardians are much stronger than the average human. In an extended scene of Thor Volstagg is shown to lift a car, and Thor can hold his own pretty damn well against the Hulk. Loki throws humans around like they are toys basically. I’m assuming Sif is on a similar level since she is one of the strongest warriors of her generation.

- Superhuman durability, Sif can take quite the beating and withstand blows and falls that would severely injure or even kill an average human. This also goes together with similarly increased stamina, she does not get fatigued at the same speed as a human.

- Longevity, Asgardians live for thousands of years

- Superhuman speed – Sif can run much faster than most humans, though it’s not superhuman speed on the level of heroes like the Flash and more in the vein of Captain America. This one sort of goes with the ability to take great leaps, again rather similar to what we see Cap do.

- Increased healing – It would appear that their sturdy constitutions allow them to heal faster from injuries.

- Dense Tissue – Sif is rather a lot heavier than she looks, all part of that whole "Asgardians are built like brick shithouses" deal.

strengths:
Physically extremely proficient, her warrior training has lasted for centuries and she was always very driven to become the best of the best.
Brave, there is very few situations that Sif would ever run away from.
Intelligent, she might at times seem like just a fighting machine but she actually has a great deal of knowledge about many things
Loyal, she will stand by the people she serves or cares about through anything.

weaknesses:
Prone to using violence to solve problems, being as she is from a culture that places very high value on battle.
Stubborn to a fault, she can be very unyielding in her personality even if she is capable of compromise if she is given sufficient reasons for it.
Not the best at adapting when Asgardian methods fail
A bit on the emotionally constipated side, she isn't always the best at expressing herself beyond the rather stilted mannerisms of an Asgardian warrior.
Thor, just Thor. His entire existence has a very strong influence on her, sometimes for good and sometimes for ill.

job skills (optional): Excellent in combat, that's pretty much the only type of work she would accept doing I think.

housing (optional): No preference

network username: sif

network sample:

[ The face staring the device down as if she is daring it to attack her belongs to what seems to be a fairly young woman, sharply angled face surrounded by thick, brown hair. Her large eyes seem to have to ability to bore a hole into someone's skull, if the intensity within them is to be believed. ]

I require a guide to make me familiar with this city.

[ She could just wander around on her own, but proud as she might be that would just be impractical. Better to get the lay of the land quickly. ]

prose/action sample:

Night was falling over Asgard, the quiet sounds of evening spreading through the city as families gathered in their homes to share meals and laughs. The training ground had grown increasingly silent during the day, and now it was becoming as it had been when Sif first arrived, empty and disturbed by nothing but her movements.

She’d spent the entire day there, flowing effortlessly through deadly dances with a wide variety of weapons, throwing opponents down into the dust over and over again as she made them all wear faces that were not their own in her mind. There was, for example, Loki, treacherous but dead and beyond any punishment she could give him, though in the end he had avoided bringing upon himself that which she had sworn to do should he attempt to betray his brother again. It would appear as his last act in this life may have been doing the right thing, something Sif still struggled to believe in spite of what she had been told by Thor.

Ah, Thor. In truth most of those who fought her on that day had to wear his face, for he too was beyond her reach, if in a different way.
He had explained why he thought he had to leave. He had explained how it all made sense to him but it still did not make any kind of sense to her. How could he serve Asgard better by being away from it? How was it better for anyone that he left his aging father to rule alone with no son there to take over after him?

How was it better to let Odin remain on the throne when his conduct during the struggle against Malekith had clearly shown that his judgment was no longer what it might once have been?

How were they supposed to rebuild the kingdom when it seemed to her as if its very heart had been torn from it?
She moved, unthinking, feet slapping the dirt with every firm step, her blade slicing through the air now with no one left to fight. Those who had homes had gone there, those who had families were with them.

She remained, fighting ghosts.

character information
name: Caleb Danvers
canon: The Covenant
canon point: Post-Film
age: 18! Like. His birthday was today, or yesterday, depending on how one counts the passage of time during reality traveling whatnot.

(canon) background: Ok so first have a fairly basic wiki link: on Wikipedia, because the actual wiki for this film is so awful it misnames the female lead character in the male lead's entry.

Now allow me to provide a better breakdown of the film: here. Let me know if you need more, but the second link is much more in-depth.

abilities: Caleb is a witch! However, he's a witch who has had fewer chances to use his powers for practical applications, though he does have an academic understanding of what he is capable of and how his magic works.

There don't seem to be any hard and fast rules, beyond the fact that overuse leads to premature aging and living life trapped in a body twice your age, and in the movie, Caleb and the other Sons of Ipswich (who are also witches!) are shown using the following abilities:

Psychokinesis – The power to move or levitate objects without touching them, also called telekinesis.
Pyrokinesis – The power to control fire and heat.
Aerokinesis – The power to control air and wind.
Atmokinesis – The power to influence the weather, particularly to make it rain or to summon storms and lightning.
Levitation – The power to defy gravity and hover or maneuver freely in the air or even fly.
Astral Projection – The power to project one's consciousness and senses beyond and away from the physical body.
Superhuman Strength – Increasing one's physical strength to above-human performance.
Shapeshifting – The ability to change one's physical appearance and voice to appear as another person.
Teleportation – The power to instantaneously disappear from one place and reappear in another.
Clairvoyance – The power to see things that are invisible, such as the creatures known as 'darklings'.

And other spells to damage, or protect self from physical damage. Healing is not in Caleb's forte, and he is too reactionary to really know how to change that.

strengths: STUDIOUS: Caleb is a good student, enjoys knowing how things work, and is used to an academic application towards learning new things. He's definitely a book learner as opposed to a hands-on learner, especially when there's a lot of risks associated with doing things hands on before doing the research. Risks? Not his thing. Especially if unnecessary. That said, you put a problem in front of Caleb and he is likely to plot out some kind of solution after doing a little bit of research. He's good at that!

RESPONSIBLE: Out of his group of immediate friends, Caleb is the one who tends to keep them all in line. He points out the flaws and the dangers, he gets in their faces when they take poorly thought out risks, he tries to keep them on the path that will take care of everyone instead of serving the needs of a selfish few. He's not a showboat by any measure and is the kind of person to get their homework done in the midst of a personal crisis.

CARETAKER: Caleb has been taking care of his mother who has been an alcoholic for likely the vast majority of his life, seeing as how his father has rapidly aged himself into near uselessness as a husband and father. This means that he has a patient and even tone even when dealing with outbursts, and is somewhat hardwired to find himself concerned with the wellbeing of others. He's the kind of friend who will make sure everyone eats during a party with the illegal booze he won't touch, and would happily hold someone's hair back while they pray to the porcelain gods while never throwing it back in their face.

weaknesses: WORLD ON HIS SHOULDERS: Do you have a problem? Well. Caleb has all the problems. Not to say that he'll play the suffering Olympics - far from it, actually, he's going to swallow it down and bury it because he has other things to worry about. Like his friends' problems! All this to say that Caleb does not process his own suffering and instead makes it his mission to help his friends with theirs while internalizing his own. Super healthy, that. Not bound to backfire at all. Nope.

REACTIVE NOT PROACTIVE: Caleb just...doesn't do things first. He waits to see what he has to work with, waits to plot, waits to react, and sometimes that waiting? Means that things go awry, especially when he is dealing with a situation in which the opposition are faster or more proactive than he is. He rarely takes the first step in anything, waiting instead to be invited into a situation. He's good at responding to things, but, yeah. Not the best at that act, not react business.

LACKING IN IMAGINATION: Despite being a teenager with magical powers Caleb has the imagination of a bored video game-addled person stuck in the woods without a console in sight. Which is really just to say that he's so used to the niches he's been forcing himself to exist within, out of fear of what happens when things go out of his control or beyond the boundaries of that niche, that he barely knows how to think outside of the box. He could get better at this, heaven knows, but it will take some time for him to even recognize it as a problem. Also, this means he's a terrible kisser.

job skills (optional): Caleb considers himself a fairly patient and understanding person who is used to rigorous academic standards, and would likely suggest that he take on some kind of teaching or research role if that is at all available. Otherwise, he's not sure how his skill set would be best applied, considering the fact that he hadn't started college yet and isn't well into any career beyond "student" and "student-athlete" at the moment of his arrival.

While Caleb would not volunteer that he is a magic user I am all for it coming out by coincidence that he is assigned a job where he has to use his magic. Like. Rubbing my hands and cackling at the idea, that kind of all for it.

housing (optional): Communal housing with his castmates (aka his Girlfriend and his It's Complicated) please.

network username: c.danvers.01969 (yes, that is his name and the zip code for Ipswich; he is unimaginative and I am sorry for him ok?)

character information
name: Chase Collins
canon: The Covenant
canon point: End of film, when he gets thrown into a fiery portal.
age: 18

(canon) background: Chase comes from a world that's just like our own, except that some families are secretly witches. In the cases of the witches of Ipswich, magic-- or THE POWER~~~-- has passed through the bloodlines for centuries, granting the first-born son of each family with nearly unlimited magical potential. This first manifests on their thirteenth birthday, giving them a taste of what the Power is like. Once they Ascend on their eighteenth birthday, they reach their full strength and potential, but they begin to pay a price for using: the Power becomes intertwined with their very life. So, the more Power they use, the more it drains away their life. If a witch uses magic in moderation, it's fine. If they lack self-control and succumb to their impulses, they will keep using and using until they age to decrepitude and an early death.

In the 17th century, many witches fled Europe and settled in colonial Massachusetts. Annnnd then the Salem Witch Trials happened. Which brings us back to the five witchy families of Ipswich: Danvers, Simms, Parry, Garwin, and Putnam. While the other four wanted to practice discretion so they wouldn't get, you know, murdered by Puritans, John Putnam was a big bad witch who liked to flaunt and abuse his power. It was pretty bad PR, so Danvers, Simms, Parry, and Garwin voted to kick him out of their circle. Putnam was ultimately tried as a witch and executed, while the others continued to uphold their front as good, upstanding Puritans. Since John Putnam had no heirs, this wiped out his entire bloodline. With that problem taken care of, the surviving families formed a "Covenant of Silence," vowing to keep their abilities a secret from all outsiders.

But-- plot twist! Shortly before his trial and execution, John Putnam decided to pay a visit to the recently-widowed Agnes Goodwin Pope, taking the form of an incubus in her dreams. (Gross.) As a result of that midnight "visit," Agnes found herself pregnant with a bastard son, who she named Hagen Goodwin Pope. And so, the Putnam line continued, totally under the radar of the other four families. Way to drop the ball, guys.

Cut to: THE 80s. Chase Goodwin Pope was born in Haversfield, New Hampshire, on July 14th, 1988, to a young mother who'd been knocked up by Hagen Goodwin Pope's descendant (who proceeded to bail before or just after Chase was born). Nearly two years later, Chase's mother died in a car wreck, and he was soon adopted by Gillian and Arthur Collins, a wealthy, prominent Haversfield couple. The Collins gave him everything he could've wanted, and things were pretty good for Chase. He excelled in school, probably had quite a few friends, and was, for the most part, a normal, happy kid. It's possible that he wasn't super close with his parents (or if he was, he grew distant from them later), and knowing that he was adopted may have given him some feelings of alienation and confusion. But, for all intents and purposes, he was on a steady track to a pretty great life.

On Chase's 13th birthday, everything changed. Not only was puberty probably a bitch, but he also gained access to the Power. Of course, being adopted and never knowing his birth father, Chase had absolutely no idea what was going on and why he suddenly had super powers. One minute he was a normal kid, and then the next thing he knew, he was a mutant or a wizard or a superhero... or he was totally insane. It was terrifying. But it also wasn't going away, so although his powers frightened him, he began to develop them in secret. Eventually, as he learned how to control the Power, he came to embrace it. Magic became his only solace, and in time, it turned into an obsession.

Since nobody was around to teach Chase anything about his powers, he was unaware of the fact that they were completely addictive. As he grew older, he became hooked on them. It only got worse when he turned 18 and gained access to the true extent of his magic during his Ascension. On his 18th birthday, after his Ascension, Chase killed his adoptive parents by crashing their car (poetically, on the same stretch of highway that took his birth mother). It's hard to say why, exactly, he did it. Likely, they witnessed him Ascending, and he decided he needed to eliminate them to keep his secret. But it's also possible that it could've been an accident on his part (given how... intense the whole Ascension process is shown to be in the movie). In any case, after the Collins died, two things happened: Chase inherited the family fortune, and he decided to find his birth father.

He was probably looking forward to finding his father. He probably built some grand image up in his head. So, imagine his surprise when he tracked down his old man and found him to be... really old and bitter, too ancient and decrepit for someone who hadn't even hit 40 yet. But, finally, his father gave him all the answers he sought, about the Power, about his family history, about the other four founding families of Ipswich and the way they threw his bloodline to the wolves during the Salem Witch Trials. He also gave Chase a first-hand look at his own very likely fate: aging himself into an early grave. Until that point, Chase didn't know what the Power and his addiction would do to him. Seeing his birth father, he knew he had to do whatever it took to avoid meeting the same fate.

With self-preservation in mind, Chase convinced his father to will him the remainder of his Power so that he could seek out revenge against the other families. Spiteful to the end, his father did, dying upon giving his Power over to Chase. Fueled by a sense of having been wronged by the other families (and a fear of deteriorating like his father), he came up with a plan that would grant him both revenge and MOOOORE POWERRRR-- which he convinced himself would stave off the physical effects of his addiction.

It was easy enough to find the last of the Danvers, Parry, Simms, and Garwin lines, since they never left Ipswich. Hell, their kids even attended the same school! Chase donated a chunk of his family trust to Spenser Academy, and that plus his brilliant academic record made it easy for him to transfer to the prestigious boarding school for his senior year.

Too bad he only made it a week into the semester before he got himself thrown into a fiery portal to nowhere.

(original) world: N/A

abilities: Chase is a witch! This means he has the Power: nearly unlimited magical potential that is tied to his life "essence." With the Power, Chase can do just about anything he wills to happen; however, it's highly addictive, and repeated, prolonged use of the Power drains his own life. Which basically means that as long as he refuses to manage his addiction, he's in a terrible cycle of slowly killing himself because his drug of choice is actually a part of him. It makes it hard to go cold turkey on it. It does, at least, seem to take a lot of prolonged, persistent overuse of magic to make one start noticeably aging, though, since Chase is heavily addicted, uses magic constantly, and still looks like a normal teenager. (I assume it's one of those things that stacks up more over time-- the effects may be barely noticeable for a few years, then start snowballing and hitting him really hard.)

Typical uses include:
  • Telekinesis: And related abilities, including flying, levitation, and telekinesis-fueled "blasts."
  • Teleportation: Can occur over great distances, even to places that aren't in his immediate area or line of sight.
  • Spider Summoning/Control: Can make anything from one spider to a massive swarm manifest, usually to attack somebody. Capable of inducing life-threatening anaphylaxis. Even one spider can drain the life from a person.
  • Glamour: The ability to mimic others in voice and appearance; however, it's only an illusion, not true shapeshifting.
  • Pyrokinesis: Some control over fire, mostly limited to starting fires and making them grow in size and intensity.
  • Nightmares: Inducing nightmares in others. It's hard to say if he controls the content of the nightmares, or if he just causes them and the victim's subconscious fills in the rest.
  • Spirit Summoning: Specifically "darklings," spooky spirits that take on the form of the deceased, but don't seem to actually... do anything.
  • Astral Projection: Mostly limited to watching people in the shower as a ghost. WHY. STOP IT.
  • Enhanced Strength/Durability: Chase can take a great deal of damage and bounce back just fine. Others are shown Using to enhance physical strength during an argument, although Chase doesn't exhibit this power, himself. Presumably, he's capable of using it if he wanted to.
  • Atmokinesis: There's some speculation that Chase is the reason why it's raining so much in the movie. But it's not confirmed. If anything, he might have some some influence over the weather, over a limited area.

strengths:
Intelligent & Resourceful: It may be a bit of a shock to hear this, since he does so many stupid things, but Chase is actually rather intelligent. Not only is he cunning and clever in that whole "scheming asshole" way, but he's also book smart. He gets great grades, to the point where the Provost of his elite boarding school makes note of his academic brilliance, and he's capable of diving deep into research when he needs to. He's entirely self-taught with his magic, learning how to wield great power without any resources or support.

Outgoing & Confident: Chase is outgoing and very confident in himself, which makes social situations easy for him to navigate. He can chat up peers, laugh in the face of bullies, and carry himself with total certainty in his own coolness-- even if he really isn't all that cool. When he wishes to be, Chase is friendly and very personable. He can get along well with a group and make friends with ease. He can also disarm people (especially the gullible and easily manipulated) with a smile and come across as utterly harmless and pleasant.

Driven & (Selectively) Disciplined: Having intelligence isn't enough without the drive and persistence to keep pushing forward. The provost's remarks on Chase's academic record, plus the implications that he was a star swimmer at his old school, indicate that he's likely an overachiever, since good grades alone are typically not enough to impress administrators. Good grades and heavy extracurricular involvement, on the other hand, do. Plus there's the fact that Chase practiced his ass off to develop his magic, exercising enough control and discipline to keep it a secret as he grew more powerful. He's clearly capable of discipline on some level, when properly motivated.

weaknesses:
Dumb Teenager: Being a teenager, he's ultimately an idiot. He can be impulsive and temperamental, particularly when something actually strikes a nerve, which can lead to him lashing out with magic, insults, and rage against inanimate objects. For all his intelligence, Chase seems to be impervious to logic, like he's one of those people who's book smart but completely lacks common sense. Or maybe he's just too stubborn to care.

Arrogant: Chase is utterly certain of his strength, superiority, and cleverness, which can lead to recklessness and poor planning. For all that he thinks he's better and stronger than everybody else, he really isn't. And when confronted with the realization that there are those who are equally or more powerful than him, Chase tends to blindly lash out and scramble around with no backup plan.

Addict: Chase is an addict of deeply self-destructive proportions. He knows by now that using his magic will ultimately lead to a rapid deterioration of his body, but he refuses to even consider giving it up. Instead, he'll do anything he can to try to save himself from the consequences of addiction, while continuing to abuse his drug of choice.

Not nearly as cool as he thinks he is: Let's be real. Chase isn't cool. In fact, he's kind of awkward. He can be super annoying, and he thinks he's funnier and wittier than he actually is. And somehow, for somebody who's a total fake, Chase is a terrible liar. He can play a part with ease, but he's awful at actually coming up with convincing lies on the spot. Who knows why. This means that to people who are particularly perceptive or who have more experience, he's painfully transparent in the way that a lot of adolescents are.

job skills (optional): Chase is a rich high school student who's never worked a day in his life, so he has no immediately obvious job skills of note. He's good at swimming, performance (because lbr: he's definitely a theatre kid), and... school... Also, he's got magical goddamn powers, which isn't information he's likely to disclose unless he's confident he won't get Salem Witch Hunted or experimented on. (However, it might appear in a bioscan, anyway, since magic does have some genetic component to it in his world.)
housing (optional): If possible, it'd be fun to toss him in with castmates, for the whole... "haha oops, I tried to murder you guys" fallout.

canon point: ~ Chapter 16 or so, before fighting Noumu and the villains at USJ.
age: HA HA HA (he's at least over... like... 40... 45?)

(canon) background: "It's fine now. Why? Because the wiki is here!"

abilities:
ONE FOR ALL: All Might's quirk and a pretty powerful one at that, its considered one of the strongest in My Hero Academia. When in use, he's in his full muscular form and capable of leaping as high as buildings, handling extreme attacks directed at him, punch through most materials, and running at fast speeds; he's strong enough to disperse clouds above them in the sky with a punch, or breaking through buildings with ease, though he prefers to avoid causing damage to the area around him unless absolutely necessary against a villain -- he also can only use this ability for a limited three hours, at the moment, and is weakened considerably outside of his use of One for All, thanks to a terrible wound received at the hands of All for One, a big time villain.

It will also be a shorter and shorter time limit the more he uses it, now. This is because after he transferred his powers to his young successor, he's using a reserved remaining power in him, a sort of 'fire' that fades more and more with use. In terms of nerfing...! I don't plan to have him do anything crazy like disperse clouds or block blasts that can take out whole buildings. He'll probably be a far less violent and green Hulk around town in the wake of danger, more than anything.

strengths:

- Determined. Despite the challenges he's faced -- being quirkless, being ill, and so on -- he has always looked to the future with a laugh or smile, eager to try to make the most of his abilities and do whatever he could for the general populace. He believes in being a symbol of peace and fighting your damndest. He's got a sort of shounen heart, so to speak. It also explains why he's so loud and dramatic in his muscular form, bless him.

- Kind. He's empathetic and thinks of others, and when he fails to he self-reflects and apologizes. He's often seen consoling defeated or emotional students, patting their backs or embracing them in some cases. A man who devotes his existence to keeping everyone safe usually is a pretty nice and chill dude. He finds it easy to like people and is quite polite and well-mannered.

- Protective. He will do whatever he must to protect his values and those around him. He has a hard time being able to get close to others due to his secret identity or his self-isolated issues, but he will always fight to the bitter end to save whoever he can. His role as a hero makes him strive to defend those who are weaker and in need.

weaknesses:

- Self-doubt. Since his injury and the loss of his strength save for those three hours, he's been shown to put himself down and see himself as weak in his usual form -- he even calls himself "pathetic", and is shown to be self-conscience about his skeletal-like figure in public. He often questions if he's teaching correctly, and even bought a "Teaching for Dummies" booklet. Really, he can be very hard on himself.

- Overworker/self-sacrificing. Speaking of being hard on himself, he overdoes it a lot. The reason he's in such a terrible state is he thinks he better serves the world by stretching himself too thin, and it backfires on him a lot. He feels he needs to keep existing as a symbol of peace, but he's sacrificed quite a lot (including his health) to do it. He really needs to relax.

- Illness. Aaaah, yeah, this is a big issue for him. And it's tied to his overworking and his self-doubt. He lost his stomach and lung in a fight, and so he often is limited by his health; he coughs blood often and is on a regimen of medications and dietary schedules. Because of this, without being in his muscular form he is considerably endangered around a bad situation.

job skills (optional): Perimeter Guard, for his hero form!

Likely very useful for keeping monsters away from the city limits. He will want to do whatever he can to help the people, so that means keeping an eye out for any danger in the city, helping people in the case of accidents or disasters, and etc. But mostly, probably beating up monsters and keeping them at bay and away from the town if he can. He's super helpful at picking up heavy rubble and leaping up high somewhere for someone on the guard, too!

(As a note, he will be trying to keep All Might separate from himself, and for people to not realize they're the same person. I think he'll try to keep his skinny form from the other members of Perimeter Guard but ultimately at some point just let members know it's something he'd rather keep private. He will refer to himself as All Might in his muscular form and Yagi in his skinny form. Good fun. He'll of course inform some of the orientation team of this, and trust they'll keep it on the low down.)

He will also be willing to work off the perimeter guard since he can only really devote three hours a day to that -- he would offer being a teacher, likely a gym teacher! He'll cite his work as a hero in his world for this.

housing (optional): If possible, he would prefer a private apartment. He wants to keep a low profile and not want too many questions about his current medical condition -- or for anyone to know he's All Might, which is easier to manage if he's got his own place. But if it's not possible, that's okay!

network sample: And this sort of devolves into an action sample as well, if that counts!! But also--

prose/action sample: --here's more! Aizawa got unlucky and ended up my samples, haha. It's on a shipping meme but there's nothing shippy from his narrative here, and there's some introspection. Let me know if you need a better sample, though, and I'll get one done. :)

canon: The Covenant
canon point: Post-movie
age: 17ish

(canon) background:

THE MESS OF THE MOVIE

Look at that Ipswich. That is a sweet Ipswich, you might say. WRONG. For like the majority of small New England towns that appear in fiction, it holds A DARK SECRET.

Way back during the Salem witch trials, see, there was this group of bona fide actual witch people who made like a vow of silence? Or something? They called it the Covenant, capital C, because even back then these dudes were dramatic. They also happened to be part of the five families who founded the Ipswich colony, say that five times fast. IT WAS BELIEVED that the fifth family died out (that becomes important, see, because since when is a family believed to have died out actually dead?), leaving the four successors of the Covenant, locally referred to as THE SONS OF IPSWICH because of their family heritage. And yeah all four are guys. Statistical improbability, yes. Does the story care? HELL NAW.

Enter Sarah Wenham, aka Sexy Lamp. She's fresh from Boston which the narrative NEVER TAKES INTO ACCOUNT AGAIN to attend Spenser Academy on scholarship. After conveniently falling in with the Sons of Ipswich via her roommate Kate, she decides lead Son is hot and agrees to run errands with him rather than going to see a movie with Kate because that's a great first date amiright. Also, Chase Collins, another transfer student, is there. I bet you can't guess what his not-dead family background might be. Anyway he goes with Kate to the movie. It's a Brad Pitt movie. That part is important (to Chase).

Errand the first involves a drive out to a shack in the middle of nowhere to deliver some medications to, presumably, a crazy old caretaker who lives there and fires a literal warning shot when he realizes Son is not alone. Hawt. Sarah is understandably weirded out by this but what's she going to do, hike back to town? So she sits in the car being freaked out until Son comes back and is like "yo lets go to the bar where all the teenagers who can't drink hang out."

So they do that, not much relevant to Sexy Lamp happens, except that she dances up on Son like a White Girl Hurricane to steal his attention back after he's all "brb bros before hoes." At the end of the night he drops her off and they have one awkward kiss and she goes to bed and dreams of HORRIBLE SPIDERS SWARMING EVERYWHERE.

Fast-forward a little, past the viewers receiving UNEXPECTED AND REVELATORY NEWS that Chase killed a nameless kid (literally referred to in dialogue as "the dead kid") during the party that opened the movie and has presumably been sending the dead kid's ghost/shade/darkling/whatever to fuck with the other witch-boys. Sarah's all RESEARCHING IT UP, finding out about spiders and their connection to the old Salem witch trials oooOOoooOOoOo spooky.

Sarah goes back to her dorm after dinner with Son and the most awkward noisy makeout session ever to discover ROOMMATE KATE HAS BEEN HOSPITALIZED! Why? Because she was bitten by a zillion spiders. Blah blah meanwhile the Sons of Ipswich discover the FURTHER UNEXPECTED AND REVELATORY NEWS that Chase is in fact the successor of the presumed dead fifth family. What did I tell you? That shit never sticks. In the middle of their "well shit, that's unexpected" discussion Sarah calls Son and Son makes the mistake of spilling the beans about Kate, who is dating Son 2. Son 2 storms off and gets HIMSELF hospitalized by Chase, destroyer of vehicles.

Then Chase goes to Sarah's dorm room wearing a Son suit (all magically disguised) and pretends to be even more moody and unable to enunciate than the real one, and Sarah is like this seems legit OH SHIT I'VE BEEN MAGICKED INTO CURSED SLEEP. Real Son tries to help and gets ultimatum'd and Chase is all gentlemanly and lets Sarah wake up and even fixes the mirror he broke before he leaves, what a good guy.

Sarah has had it up to here with these motherfucking witches in this motherfucking town, aight, so she tells Son that she wants to know the truth about what's going on and that she knows there's magic involved. Son is like "okay I'm gonna show you something and then I will REVEAL ALL." And he takes her back to that shack and introduces her to his moldy dad who's like forty but looks about ten billion years old.

SURPRISE, USING MAGIC SUCKS AWAY YOUR LIFE FORCE! I mean it was a surprise to Sarah but literally no one else because we'd been told that like, immediately. Magic manifests in the male line at age 13 and their Power "matures~" at 18 when they Ascend and after that if they use magic they get addicted and shrivel up like grapes. You can, however, will your power away to someone else! If you don't mind dying and shit. And that's what Chase wants Son to do - will his power to Chase, die and shit.

Sarah is like WHAT THAT FUCKIN' SUCKS? And Son is like Yeah I guess and then is like Yo let's get you ready for that dance I mentioned a while ago because sending you out into the open with the two least experienced witches as your body guards COULD NOT POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

(It goes wrong.)

Fast-forward to Chase and Son's FINAL SHOWDOWN while Sarah just chills out floating and unconscious in the background. They're like VWOOM. And FSHOOM. And it looks ridiculous as fuuuuuuck. But then Son's dad does that whole willing of power shit because even broke clocks can be not shitty parents twice a year or something. And lo he's all juiced up and throws Chase into a fireball thing. And Sarah wakes up! And is like what the F just happened. And then Son is like I dunno sweetcheeks lemme casually fix this broken car windshield after going on and on about the addictive properties of magic. And Sarah is like well that's sorta freaky and uncomfortable--

THE END. No literally that's where it ends.

THE MOVIE'S WIKIPAGE for clarification as necessary

abilities: It’s implied by the movie (or by its plot holes) that she has psychic abilities and a certain level of clairvoyance. She sensed when magic was being worked around her and she dreamed of HORRIFYING SPIDER INFESTATION shortly before her roommate went to the hospital after being bitten by hundreds of spiders. Post-movie, she’s embraced the idea of having abilities of her own and has been studying and practicing, enough to read auras, have more consistent prophetic dreams, and to have successfully astrally projected. Once. Given that this is conjecture on my part and headcanon re: post-movie activities, I’m happy to nerf or disregard.

strengths:

Intuitive: She takes nothing for granted, and trusts her instincts. In most things (though perhaps not people things), they're pretty good. She's always had a strong level of intuition and supplements it with an addiction to learning whatever she can about topics that interest her and the situations she finds herself in. Where some people would try to dismiss the strangeness going on around them, she saw teenage boys using magic and pursued a line of thinking that said "Well, maybe there's magic in the world." She's open to impossible possibilities, provided they can be proved in some way.

Driven: She's intensely driven and very quiet about that drive. When she decided she wanted to go to Harvard, she worked until she got a scholarship to a prep school that funnels students into Harvard. WHen she decided she liked a boy on campus, she insinuated herself into his life by volunteering to keep him company while he ran errands. When she sets her eyes on a goal, she knows that going straight at it isn't necessarily the best way to get it, or the most efficient. She uses her energy and her skills more carefully. She's comfortable playing a long game, and in some ways views life as a chess match to be won with as few casualties as possible.

Empathetic: She tends to make and keep friends very easily. She also cares deeply about the wellbeing of those around her, even if her relationship with them is brief or shallow. She’ll go out of her way for others, sometimes to her detriment. She has very little temper. Even when she's angry, it passes quickly. She's more interested in trying to reason out other peoples' choices and trying to understand why they would act a certain way. The energy of anger gets redirected to investigation.

weaknesses:

Too Trusting (no seriously this is a legit weakness): She tends to see the best in others even when it’s not there, excusing or forgiving bad behavior and justifying away repetitive mistakes and misdeeds. She's not naive - she's too smart to be truly naive - but she's the sort who believes at bottom that, given the option, people will choose to do the right thing, even if they’ve shown that they won’t.

Counterintuitively, Not Trusting Enough: She doesn’t tend to rely on people, and places a premium on independence over emotional attachment. We never see her get in touch with her parents. She doesn't voice her worries about the weirdness happening around her, just privately researches witchcraft on her own. She's willing to accept help if it's offered, but she doesn't reach out, and if she feels crowded by kindness she may withdraw.

Easy to Read: She can’t keep her emotions to herself. If she’s upset, she cries. If she’s mad, it shows. Regularly throughout the movie she makes declarative statements about her feelings because the writers have never spoken to an actual human girl in their entire lives. She wears her heart on her sleeve and isn't apologetic about it, but that emotional openness makes her state of mind easy to read and potentially easy to manipulate.

job skills (optional): She's very organized and studious?? But she's a teenager with few marketable skills beyond a willingness to learn and endless curiosity.

housing (optional): Communal housing with castmates (Caleb Danvers and Chase "Car Killer" Collins)

player information
name: Coeurl

other characters: None

character information
name: Sailor Galaxia
canon: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
canon point: Stars 10, Act 59 of the manga
age: 20s

(canon) background: Wiki link

abilities: Galaxia's main abilities are teleportation and destructive forces (such as strong winds, lightening, etc). She transforms from a relatively normal looking human to a powered up version called a Sailor Guardian. Her brooch, known as the Saffer Crystal, is the main source of her power and is basically a conduit of her "soul."

She has two main attacks:
Galactica Super String - A massive attack of energy erupting from her body.
Galactica Inflation - Electricity based attack with lightning surrounding her.

All of her powers are based around mass destruction and she has been shown destroying not only a whole city but also an entire planet. Her powers in general would probably need to be nerfed down due to their nature.

strengths: Galaxia's main strength is her ambition. When she decides she wants something, she will go out and get it and not allow anything to stand in her way. Because of this she is very manipulative, going out of her way to find weaknesses in others and exploit them for her own goals. She does this especially in her use of minions, preying on their own desires for power to turn them into pawns for her own amusement. She seeks out the weakest point in others to learn how to destroy them. Whatever hurts someone the most, she'll find it. And she'll use it.

Her determination made her a very successful leader in her empire. She does not allow for mistakes, and will follow through with all of her plans until the end.

weaknesses: Ambition is also a major weakness of hers. As much as it drives her goals, it also blinds her. She wants more than she reasonably should and it drives her to commit evil acts. Power that is out of her reach causes never ending obsession to try and get the one thing she cannot have.

She has major inferiority over who she used to be. She grew up alone in a hostile environment and she overcompensates with a need to become more than her origins. She cannot possibly be a nobody in the universe or be seen as weak.

Above all else, she is a lonely person who does not understand the values of things such as love and friendship. She never had those things so she doesn't quite get it. This gives her a deep void in her heart that she tries to fill by seeking power instead.

job skills (optional): Combat, Leadership skills, murder
housing (optional): No preference.

[Why is she using this thing? Even she does not know.]

I struggle to understand the usefulness of massing together in groups for the sake of entertainment. What do you gain from introducing yourself to random strangers whom you might not ever speak with again? Why? The situations are loud, annoying and give nothing in the end.

I implore someone, anyone, to explain to me the purpose of parties.

character information
name: Samuel "Locus" Ortez
canon: Red vs Blue
canon point: S13-e7: Locus of Control
age: 27 (actual age unknown, headcanon devised through context clues and important dates in halo timeline)

(canon) background: wiki

abilities: wiki again

strengths:
tactician: Locus has the ability to assess a situation and find ten ways to advance and another twenty to retreat if needed. He does nothing for finesse in his battles; every move has a purpose, and his mind is sharp enough to draw the weaknesses out in his enemies before they know what's hit them.

conviction: Once he decides on something, Locus will internalize it like a mantra and turn it into his driving force. In canon, this manifests in his unwavering belief in his actions furthering his image as a "soldier." He follows orders because that's what a soldier does, he carries out his missions no matter what because it's who he is, and nothing he's forced to do will change that. In season 15, further in his canon, this is supported by his decision to never kill again and his dedication to that commitment.

good under pressure: Locus is very experienced in keeping his cool. Being a mercenary for as long as he has been, and having been a soldier beforehand, he knows what he's capable of and he knows how to use that. Any confidence he has comes out in these times and comes together in the form of a man who can make any decision he needs to. His partner needing constant reining-in also helps this; if he didn't have Felix to temper his patience, he'd go off a hell of a lot more.

weaknesses:
temper: We see him lose his head more than once in canon; but what we're led to believe is that this is not normal. What changes to bring this trait out in him, especially in his current canon point? Agent Washington on the opposing side of the battlefield, testing his "I'm a soldier" bullshit. He has a nearly-impenetrable set of walls up around his psyche, but Wash manages to find the one single crack in the armor. What it unlocks is Locus's inability to face himself, and the anger that drags up alongside the denial in response. It's unsurprising; he gets irritated easily with certain things, but he's very good at not letting it distract him until these larger outbursts arise from his insecurities.

self-image: What Locus is most afraid of is becoming a monster. It's haunted him from his days in the military, and from the things he had to do. He's built a case of denial around his actions, forged the idea of a "perfect soldier" out of the wreckage of his moral compass, and that is all that keeps him on his feet. It's iron-clad, and constantly bolstered by Felix, but it's all that stands between Locus on his A-game and Locus at rock bottom.

•social skills: Or, in this case, a lack thereof. For all of Locus's ability to read a situation and react accordingly, and for all of his foresight into understanding people's intentions and seeing the bigger picture in regards to problems that could arise, he's terrible at the little details of social machinations. Give him a squad to lead and he'll rule it with cold, calculated precision. Try to make him relate (or be relatable) to those teammates, and you've brought the giant to his knees.

character information
name: Isaac "Felix" Gates
canon: Red vs. Blue
canon point: immediately after stepping through the "gateway" in season 13, episode 7: "Locus of Control"
age: unknown; estimated at mid- to late-twenties. (headcanon: 26)

(canon) background: wiki link
(original) world: n/a

abilities: wiki link again

strengths:
◦ charm: Felix is a "people person." He's able to quickly and easily read a room, immerse himself in social situations, and win the trust of perfect strangers. He does this without relying on lies or flattery; his exact words are extremely honest. He uses humor and an easygoing attitude to disarm people's suspicions, then uses their expectations against them.
◦ manipulative: For years, Felix orchestrated half of a civil war without ever drawing suspicion to himself. He plays an excellent friend, giving reassurance where it's needed and crushing any doubt that doesn't serve his purposes. Although he doesn't relate to people, he understands them, and he can easily push buttons to make people act or pull strings to keep them in line. His manipulative nature is displayed most prominently in his relationship with his partner, Locus. Whenever Locus shows an inkling of doubt, Felix is there with a hand on his shoulder and a few keywords to bolster his partner's wavering resolve.
◦ cunning: Both in and out of combat, Felix is quick-thinking and a master of deception. He's a showman, capable of effortlessly distracting a crowd with his right hand while his left poisons the well. If accusations are slung his way, he's able to deflect with ease, and he can usually turn it back on the accuser. He rarely finds himself in a situation he can't worm his way out of ... unless someone uses his weaknesses against him.

weaknesses:
◦ sociopath: Felix genuinely does not care about anyone or anything but himself. He is willing to commit genocide for money. He's willing to sacrifice his allies to get what he wants. Even his partnership with Locus — which is, by far, the closest relationship Felix has — is built on a foundation of what Locus can do for him. Felix is a ruthless survivor to whom guilt is a mystery. His violent and impatient nature would have gotten him killed long ago, were it not for Locus always having his back.
◦ sadist: Whether it's physical, mental, or emotional, Felix enjoys inflicting pain. When faced with an inferior opponent, Felix doesn't go for a direct kill: he plays with them. He inflicts nonlethal wounds; he attacks their confidence and conviction; he laughs as people scramble to defend themselves. For Felix, it's fun. The kill is, in his own words, "better than anything money can buy."
◦ ego: Felix's ego is undoubtedly his greatest weakness. He loves himself. He thinks that he's incredible; that being him is "awesome"; that he is infallible. If there's a mistake, it's ultimately on someone else, because there's just no way it's his fault. Felix's ego leads him to underestimate people time and again. It also gives him a love of his own voice; as such, Felix talks way, way too much. It's gotten him in trouble more than once, and yet, he can't help himself. His inability to acknowledge his shortcomings and to admit defeat is what leads to Felix's inevitable downfall.

job skills (optional): mercenary; freelancer; gun for hire
housing (optional): in an apartment on a shared floor with his castmate, Locus ([personal profile] inreality), provided they're both accepted! Felix is extremely paranoid and would not do well sharing quarters with people he doesn't know.

Hizashi Yamada (Present Mic) ★ My Hero Academia

character information
name: Hizashi Yamada (Present Mic)
canon: My Hero Academia
canon point: Ch. 83 - Staff meeting about the School Trip
age: 31

(canon) background: Wiki wiki wut!
notable headcanon: Wasn't sure where to put headcanon stuff. I go on the headcanon that he's half Japanese. Basically, he's got a natural fluency to his English (even for an English teacher) and he's drawn in a very similar way to what the author draws Westerners. I also made up an entire family for him based on that. I doubt it'll come up often, but I wanted that to be clear. And I have evidence for it if I need to elaborate!

abilities:
Kosei: Voice. He's LOUD!!! Crazy highs, crazy lows, his voice is nuts. He uses the volume and vibration to his advantage to make ears bleed and shake things up. This probably needs to be nerfed. In (the anime) canon we see him take out tens of villains at USJ without breaking a sweat. We also know his loud voice shakes trees. A student with a similar quirk has been seen in canon to use her sound vibrations to cause little earthquakes. So, yeah, maybe just loud enough to make ears bleed and break glasses if he tries hard enough for a party trick. Although he has control over it and doesn't take property damage lightly, so.

Entertainer. He's always the MC for events in the school as well as being a DJ with a radio show winning #1 three years in a row. Present Mic is all about that stage presence and putting on a good show. His students don't always appreciate it but... y'know he tries!

strengths:
★ People person. Hizashi is the kind of guy to at least attempt to make friends with everyone. He'll chit-chat with anyone too. Maybe he's just gotten really good at small talk with the years of being a teacher and radio. Either way, he talks a lot and gets to know people. Uraraka approaches him quite easily after the entrance exam to discuss points. Hey, it can't be easy to talk to your exam proctor and a Pro Hero, but she does it casually. That says something, right?

★ Intelligent. 5/5 for intel stat, yo! Mic is the first to mention that there might be a mole in the meeting after the School Trip Arc. He's also head of the English department. A lot of people probably take him for a loudmouth with no tact, but he's steadily collecting information for all kinds of reasons.

★ Bright. You know how you kind of become your name? Hizashi means sunbeam and boy does that ever fit this guy. You hardly ever see him without a smile on his face. He takes everything head on. He's always the life of the party and trying to stir up excitement with the kids. What's the point in being sad, y'know?

weaknesses:
☆ A bit much. Well... He's loud. And talkative. And tries a bit too hard to get people worked up and excited when they just want to take things seriously or casually. He goes too far in that direction and doesn't always know when to back down. Especially when making friends, he can be a bit stubborn. (How the hell else is he best friends with Aizawa Shouta, the Most Antisocial Dude Ever.)

☆ Emotions can get the better of him. That meeting about the School Trip where he talks about the mole? Yeah, the other teachers try to get him to drop it due to a lack of information. He's adamant in trying to get them to talk about it anyway - these kids have their lives at stake here! A lot is on the line! Sometimes the reality of a situation can escape him when he feels strongly about something.

☆ Present Mic mask. We see bits of "Hizashi" over "Present Mic" here and there. Mic has a lot of crazy hand motions and getting the crowd fired up. Hizashi shines through in the in-between moments, like when he's waiting for his students to show up for the final exam. He is a lot more chill than he seems. I think this could present (hah) in the future. He can wear Present Mic as a mask, even in his personal life. People expect him to be a sunbeam.
