riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

prose/action sample: write out or link to an example of how you write your character in interactions; this sample should be a bit longer and can be done in prose or action bracket style and can be set in the game or your character's canon, though please avoid over-use of NPCing other characters - this is about your character; links can be from the test drive meme, other games, PSLs (as long as they are not AU), or memes - but should not break the fourth wall (Dear Player etc.)

character information
name: Loki Laufeyson
canon: Marvel-616
canon point: Post ego-death, Agent of Asgard comics.
age: 21/1050

(canon) background: marvel wiki
(original) world: n/a

abilities:
( )
ALL-TONGUE When Loki speaks with the All-Tongue anyone who hears him will hear him speak their native language in their hearts.
ASGARDIAN ABILITIES Superhuman Strength/Stamina/Longevity, Dense Tissue/Durability, Regenerative Healing. Loki, without the aid of anything, through his own biology, possesses superhuman strength that is substantially superior to that of an average Asgardian male. Tissue is three times denser than a human's. Rapid regenerative healing powers (able to accelerate more than that of a normal Asgardian). He can exert himself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair him. Immune to the effects of all known Earthly diseases and infections.
NOTABLE MAGICAL POSSESSIONS These are items Loki owns and calls to his side: Svartalfheim shadowthread coat of invisibility, Seven-League boots that allow him to walk on insubtantial surfaces (up glass/waterfalls/on clouds etc), Laevateinn his ancestral sword which cuts through any hide, Gram the sword of truth, Lorelei's invisibility amulet.
ASTRAL PROJECTION From Wiki: 'casting his thoughts across great distances — even across dimensional barriers, like that between Asgard and Earth — even if he is unable to move.' Essentially, Loki can send a copy of himself somewhere and depending on his level of strength it will resemble him without fault. During his YA run when his power was sapped by guilt, his projection was extremely weak.
SORCERY As the God of Mischief, the Liesmith and Silvertongue, Loki's powers fall firmly on the "What The Fuck Was That" scale. Illusions are his foremost source of trade, although as he says, "Me? I can do finesse. Anything one can manage with a wand and a word is within my skillful purview." Magic for Loki is "Taking a Lie and making it Truth" (molecular rearrangement) which essentially boils down to dickering about with anything he pleases and twisting it to suit his means. Grimoires, cryptonomicons, "I've got an AD&D manual somewhere". He can whip up Norn Runes on objects and generally botch together some highly effective shit with whatever is lying around, which is how the Trickster rolls. This also allows him to teleport, now without even simple words such as 'Elsewhere'.
SHAPE-SHIFTING An innate ability to transform into anything as long as he retains his sense of self. "I can turn into myself, that's no problem. I can turn into anything, as long as it's me." Women, animals, etc, all are fair game. Once he even turned into a rainbow unicorn. EDIT: With the release of TUSG#12 Loki offered to do "great impressions" of any celebrity, then proceeded to turn into a giant-headed Cat Thor. It may be his shape-shifting has a broader range of ability than specified by Ewing in AOA or he was being literal: he can turn into anything as long as he is comfortable being it.
SWORDSMANSHIP Agile, skilled and strong enough to hold his own against Thor.
TELEPATHY/TELEKINESIS From WIKI: He cannot read the minds of other beings, although he can influence their actions, and once briefly hypnotized Thor, as well as controlling a flock of birds. However he could not coerce Thor to give him Mjolnir [...] he can influence other events to a degree, such as driving a missile from its path, or redirecting a radio signal. He is also seen telekinetically teaching Billy.
TELEPORTATION (+INTER-DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL) Even in a weak child's body, Loki was able to skip dimensions and arrange a meeting with America on Earth-212. (INTER-DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL NERFED IN RIVERVIEW)
REALITY WARPING Loki's power of twisting the truth into lies is classified as a kind of reality-warping not unlike the power of the Scarlet Witch and her son Wiccan, from using a type of hammer-space to embed his apartment secretly in a building to summoning items he seemingly calls into his grasp from nowhere (eg, a megaphone for Squirrel Girl that pops out of thin air when he snaps his fingers). He is essentially a mythoform that messes with the narrative of reality (the reason he later in comics becomes the God of Stories) but who in his recent acquisition of sanity refers to the overuse of power as a big red button, tempering his use of magic accordingly.
strengths:
CONSCIENCE It sounds ridiculous, but Loki's biggest flaw (and championing hope for redemption) is his overwhelming sense of guilt and loyalty to his friends. This isn't to say he won't lie and trick and scheme, yet when using the Sword of Truth and faced with the tormented vision of Kid!Loki whom he murdered, he chanted "I'm sorry, I'm sorry". The whole reason he worked for the All-Mother was to clear his former iteration's record as payment for said tasks, as he was then of an adult age (King Loki, it's worth noting, also bargained for the same thing).
BRAVERY Despite being a Loki, Ikol is undoubtedly one of the braver iterations. When in Latveria he was scared to use Gram to help clear the minds of innocents and the Sword of Truth forced him to face his own fears, yet he succeeded. He shows up when one of his evil schemes from a past life starts hurting people, accepts responsibility that earns him the respect of Squirrel Girl, and is there to help shut down disasters of his own making. He even fights alongside other supervillains to save the heroes on Genosha when the Red Skull attempts to kickstart World War Hate.
COMPASSION His ability to love is no longer fearfully guarded. With the introduction of Verity Willis he gains a mortal best friend for whom he cares deeply, and one of his greatest sources of misery is that Thor will never love him back since Ikol killed his previous iteration whom Thor considered more 'real', reduced to begging on his knees in front of all Asgard for Thor to come back. He's no longer sadistic, enjoying being liked and determined to be 'Better' in order to prove he is worth it.
weaknesses:
SELF-CRITICISM No one is a bigger critic of Loki than Loki, hating how he used to be a mad old man locked in the same cycle of being a predictable bad guy. He keeps himself in line by never overstepping his own rules, only killing warriors in battle and showing an almost enthusiastic, concerned kindness to innocents and young heroes following his murder of Kid Loki and after he nearly convinced Wiccan to commit suicide. Loki is very conscious of his actions and influence, knowing that if he goes off the rails he can be his own and everyone else's biggest enemy.
LYING His strongest ability is wordsmithy yet Loki often lies in situations where he needn't, mostly out of self-defence. Lately he has been learning that opening up (with Verity) doesn't always lead to unhappy endings.
GUILT Wracked with guilt over the murder of an innocent child, he frequently sees visions o the boy screaming I am the crime that will not be forgiven! When a fleet of Angels were eager to slaughter Asgardian babies, Loki literally shipped them off to their death in a fiery explosion.
skills (optional): No job to begin with, he'll be nosing about everywhere for a while.
housing (optional): Anywhere is fine!

network username: The same as his canon Instagram account, LOKIOFASGARD

I have located the REALM ETERNAL!!! :-O NO KIDDING, OLD ASGARD HAS SURVIVED!!!!
[ Sure is a selfie here of Loki waving enthusiastically from the top of a dilapidated old castle somewhere in a run-down amusement park. He's in the Abandoned City, salty and free to take as many jabs at Freyja as he pleases post ego-death and motherly betrayal-of-the-century. ] Guys, check it out ... I found the THRONE ROOM!!

[ Follow-up shot shows a rotten, overgrown canteen. In the lap of a broken, creepy-looking plastic pig decoration affixed to the wall is a cheap patio chair. Loki looks nothing short of awe-struck in a corner of the picture, gazing up at the swine's frozen grin with a tear in his eye. ]

character information
name: Luna Lovegood
canon: Harry Potter
canon point: Mid book 7/movie 7.2 during the escape to Shell Cottage with some filling in the blanks via headcanon
age: 17 (18 in August)

(canon) background: harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Luna_Lovegood

(headcanon to fill in blanks for book 7)

During book 7 while Luna was held in Malfoy Manor she was the target of torture by the Death Eaters. They figured the more they hurt her the faster she would spill the location of Harry Potter and the rest of the group. But she never wavered and never said a word: taking the frequent beatings and abuse with a brave face while hiding the fact she was ankle deep in emotional hell. But eventually she along with Dobby and Mr. Ollivander are rescued from the manor and she by accident (and under a lot of stress in her defense) discovers the portal during the escape to Shell Cottage.

Due to her time held in Malfoy Manor Luna's not in the best of shape period. Its nothing to warrant a quick trip to the doctor she thinks (due to some major on the fly treatment from her friends post rescue) since there's a war to win. But its bad enough for people to worry and talk her into seeing one. She's currently dealing with a possible broken wrist (thankfully not her wand hand), tons of cuts and bruises, lack of sleep, not enough food (but not an eating disorder) and plenty of emotional/mental garbage to eventually work through.

(original) world: NA

abilities: Trained witch within months of graduation from Hogwarts

strengths: Intelligence/Clever: She is a Ravenclaw (the brainy house of Hogwarts) after all. At the same time she sees almost everything in a different light which came in handy at a wedding when she spotted Harry while he was under a polyjuice potion.

Kindhearted: Luna's gentle spirit makes her very good at being there for others especially after everything she has gone thought from being teased at Hogwarts to the manor. This also lends to her sensitive side amd her easily forgiving those who wronged her.

Openminded: While her beliefs may be seen to most as odd it also makes Luna very open minded on almost every level. She simply sees things with a more open eye and is not afraid to share what she thinks (see below for its downside).

weaknesses: Spacey/Flighty: Luna tends to "haze out" at times, making her semi clueless to her surroundings (but never leading to her being harmed beyond an occasional fall). It makes her look spacey to the untrained eye.

Odd Beliefs: Luna being a believer in plants, creatures, and other things outside the normal structure of the magical community's beliefs may be the sign of a mind that is a little too open at least to Muggles. It acts to isolate her from her classmates at Hogwarts. But its not meant to be that way (at least it looks to be).

Blunt: She has a tendency to be over-honest in her assessments of others, a trait which Harry finds somewhat dismaying at times. This has caused its problems and its something she will be working on when it comes to Muggles.

skills (optional): Within months of graduation from Hogwarts, artist (designs and makes jewelry), experience with magical creatures/plants, good with people
housing (optional): With other magic users/young adults?

character information
name: Billy Kaplan
canon: Marvel 616
canon point: Young Avengers Vol. 2, end of #15 before they go for breakfast.
age: 18

(canon) background: wiki

abilities: Billy's powers include the following:

Electrokinesis: Billy possesses the ability to manipulate and discharge energy as either lightning or electricity from his hands/body. He can also use this ability in conjunction with spells.

Chaos Magic: Then there's the Chaos Magic, which was passed down by his mother, the Scarlet Witch. While there are a few spells he can cast without speaking it, most of them, he has to state the effect or action he wants to happen ("IwanthimtobeokayIwanthimtobeokay", etc.). He knows no standard spells and mostly just improvises. Stress and reluctance can also affect his ability to cast spells and they can be significantly stronger if his emotions are particularly strong. He can also enhance others with his spells for some period of time.

He's been seen to use spells involving enhanced strength, sensing others, levitation, telepathy, astral projection, illusions, and teleportation.

It's uncertain how far Billy can teleport himself and others and his healing spells depend on how much he wishes to heal the person he's focusing on.

Flight is also something he can do without vocalizing a spell, both for himself and others.

strengths: Billy Kaplan seems to have the ability to retain a lot of knowledge, even if it's just geeky fandom stuff. He also cares a lot about doing the right thing and hates to see people suffer. He's loyal to anyone he cares about and friends and family are very important to him.

He's powerful with magic as well, and is destined to be the future Demiurge -- basically a magical messiah that will rewrite the laws of magic. He's courageous and he will do absolutely anything to help those he cares about.
weaknesses: On the negative side, he can be prickly and closed off, slow to trust others, and has a tendency towards depression. When his episodes are at the worse, he has a tendency to just shut down and not talk to anyone, to barely even move. He also has a very bad temper and is prone to saying terrible things when he's set off.

If he can't hear himself talk, he also can't use most of his magic. He has to be able to hear himself recite affirmations for his magic to work. While under stress, he can also lose control of both his magic and electrokinesis.

He can also be very rash and stubborn when he thinks he's right, and won't be dissauded from whatever course he's decided on.

character information
name: Eddie Thawne
canon: DCTV: The Flash
canon point: End of Season 1, at his death.
age: no canon age; if pressed, I generally use 28

(canon) background: Eddie @ DCTV Wiki
(original) world: n/a

abilities: Eddie has no superhuman skills, but he is a highly trained police officer who recently rose to the position of detective. As such, he has good hand-to-hand combat skills, is in excellent physical condition (aside from the obvious 'was just dead a few minutes ago'), and has an expert level of competence with firearms and driving vehicles, among other skills useful for police officers. Additionally, he is shown to be a talented boxer.

strengths:

➞ Eddie is confident. From how he moves and acts to how he speaks, Eddie's confidence is obvious, and he has every reason to be confident. Eddie is quite young to be a detective, a testament to how well he's performed through school and on the job, and he takes pride in his performance. Aware of where his own strengths lie, Eddie doesn't spend a lot of time questioning his decisions or hesitate to stand up for himself, whether it's to call his girlfriend out on behaviour that makes him uncomfortable, or to assert to his overbearing partner that he can take care of himself.

➞ Eddie is intelligent. There is a reason he rose so quickly through the ranks to become a high-performing detective. Eddie is excellent at reading people, and has a quick, decisive mind. He's good at connecting the dots, picking out patterns, and drawing excellent conclusions about situations and people.

➞ Eddie is very good and very compassionate. Sweet-tempered and good-natured, Eddie is one of the first people at the scene of a crime to comfort victims, aware of the human toll that traumatic events can take. He's open and personable, always ready to make friends and meet new people, and makes every effort to be inclusive, to say hello to everyone in the group and ask about their lives. Despite being the golden boy, he sees himself more as the everyman, and makes efforts to relate to other people. Observant, he notices when the people around him are struggling or suffering and takes the time to offer comfort, advice, or share his own experiences with similar problems.

weaknesses:

➞ Eddie has low self-worth, and while he has confidence in his skills, he doesn't have a lot of confidence in his own value as a person. This is likely carried over from a childhood wherein he was bullied constantly, he only learned to fight back when a gym teacher took pity on him. This can get tiring for the people around him, especially when it causes him to jump to the worst possible conclusions - particularly in his relationships, he is prone to assume he has less impact on the people he loves than he actually does, easily believes that people will leave him rather than having confidence that they will stick by him.

➞ Eddie's low self-worth often manifests itself as a crippling hero complex that ultimately results in his own death, when he sacrifices himself to save the rest of the cast. He values the idea of being a hero quite highly, and when he's called a hero cop or does something selfless, he gets obvious enjoyment out of it, it boosts his ego in a way that is not entirely selfless.

➞ Eddie is cocky and competitive. His confidence in his skills can sometimes boil over into a competitive nature, either at work (openly tallying his arrests) or his relationships (challenging Iris in a game of darts). When he's feeling competitive, he can get a little overbearing.

➞ Eddie is a bit of a ditz - while Eddie is street smart and a quick thinker, he's not very book smart. In a series full of scientists and cool nerds, where 'smart is sexy,' this means he can often come across as a little stupid. This is something he's fully aware of, and he will even sometimes joke about it in order to cover his insecurity about it.

skills (optional): strategy, weapons proficiency, experience as a Police Detective
housing (optional): Anywhere is fine!

So fast, thank you! This is his journal!
noassgardian: (Default)

Sorry, hopefully this is better!

[personal profile] noassgardian 2017-03-04 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
strengths:
  • Great memory. Billy has the uncanny ability to remember facts and trivia. He proves this not only with his in-depth knowledge of superheroes and villains, but he can recall pop culture trivia and quotes at the drop of a hat. While perhaps not a genius, Billy is sharp when he wants to be, and he shows it in the way that he teaches himself magic and how to control it through what's essentially home brewed spells.

  • Courageous. Billy has a lot of flaws, which I'll get to in a minute, but at the end of the day? He is a superhero through and through. While he may not have been the most courageous in his younger days, the minute his powers kicked in and he received the offer to become a hero and help people, he took it. In his time as a hero, he has stopped a fellow classmate from being bullied (even when Billy, himself, made a point to try and avoid said bully because he was scared), has saved his teammates countless of times, and even been willing to die for them when he thought it would help save them.

  • Morality. Billy has a very strong sense of right and wrong and he takes it very seriously. Despite his tendency to speak without thinking sometimes, and to be something of a jerk, Billy always wants to do the right thing and takes failing to do so very personally. There was a time he was pushed to wish death on someone who was torturing his boyfriend and from the break down he had when he realized what he'd done? He was horrified that he'd even be capable of thinking it, let alone attempt to use magic to see it through.

weaknesses:
  • Mental Issues. Billy has a variety of mental problems, including depression, guilt, and probably a touch of PTSD from torture and being placed in a maximum security prison for super powered people. He has been shown to blame himself more than anyone in the past, to sit nearly catatonic on a windowsill for months on end due to mistakes he'd made, and to even be suicidal at times. He says that he deals with hating himself and poisoned thoughts often.

  • Bad Temper. While sarcastic and a bit of a jerk at the best of times, when Billy is pushed too far, he often lashes out in anger with hurtful accusations and words. He does feel bad for these outbursts after the fact, for the most part, but he doesn't seem to be able to control himself at times. Not only that, but he's bad about not thinking his words through and saying blunt, hurtful things without really realizing it until it's too late to take back.

  • Rash. Billy is rash in his decision making at times. It's shown when he single-handedly invades Latveria, Doctor Doom's territory, in an effort to find his mom, which leads to his capture. Not only that, but he has rashly chosen suicide under the belief that it would save his friends from his own magical mistake. When Billy thinks he's right, nothing and no one will stop him from bad ideas.

  • Stubborn. Billy doesn't bend easily at all. When he's made up his mind, he is extremely hard to dissuade, even if that means going behind someone's back to do what he's decided on. He doesn't back down and he won't be intimidated, even going as far as standing up to Captain America himself without even thinking twice.

character information
name: Michael Scofield
canon: Prison Break
canon point: 2x14 - Disconnect
age: 31

(canon) background: Wiki

abilities:
low latent inhibition combined with a high IQ make Michael something of a creative genius, human super-computer, calculator and code-breaker capable of creating and executing complex solutions to near-impossible problems. If the average person thinks in 2D stereo, Michael thinks in 3D with surround sound.

strengths:
-determined/iron will
Michael is an unstoppable force of nature. Where there is a will there is a way, and no one has more will than Michael does. Once he sets his mind to something, he will follow it through to completion or die trying. There is no risk too great. No fear, danger, or obstacle he won't face; he can't be bribed, convinced, or intimidated into backing down. He is David, and the world is his Goliath.

-mastermind/genius
Michael spent 3 years orchestrating the plan to break Lincoln out of Fox River, crossing every T and dotting every I. He is a master problem solver, strategist and MacGyver in his own right. With his high IQ and low-latent inhibition, he is extremely high-functioning, capable of thinking on his feet and making decisions with surgical precision under extreme conditions. When Michael is planning, no detail is too small, and no stone left unturned. Even his back-up plans have back-up plans.

-inspirational/charismatic
Despite having no desire to lead, Michael has many leadership qualities that draw people to him. His motto is to "be the change you want to see in the world," and through his bravery and determination, he inspires those around him to be that change too. The perpetual underdog, Michael has more friends than enemies, if only because he has a funny way of turning enemies into friends.

-empathetic/loving
Michael is highly attuned to the emotions of people around him, and wears his heart on his sleeve. At his core, he is a helper, always picking up strays and reluctant to turn his back on those in need. Compassionate and non-judgemental, he bonds instantly with people and forms deep connections. Before he dedicated his life to saving Lincoln, he had founded his own charity and volunteered most of his spare time to an outreach center for at-risk youth. He is fiercely loyal to those he loves, and will do anything for them.

weaknesses:
-obsessive/compulsive
Once he became convinced of Lincoln's innocence, Michael devoted his life to freeing him. When it became apparent the law wasn't on his side, he chose to break the law, destroy his life and career and to isolate himself to save him. There is no length he won't go to, or bridge he won't burn, and people inevitably get caught in the crossfire. Michael becomes fixated, unable to think about anything but the next steps in his plan, the ends justifying the means. Michael became a fugitive, terrorist, and murderer, all to save Lincoln.

-manipulative/deceitful
Michael's high EQ allows him to read people, and also to use them. He finds their weaknesses, and exploits them with brutal efficiency, and discards them when they're no longer relevant. Anything between him and his goals or the people he loves is collateral damage; he is a chess player, and everyone is a pawn. Michael can be as cold as he is caring, not above threatening, coercing, blackmailing, seducing, and throwing others under the bus.

-low self-esteem/self-destructive
Michael comes from a broken home, everyone he's ever loved abandoned him at some point, and he has no sense of self-worth. He will sacrifice his own well-being and happiness for others. Despite being in therapy since he was a child, he has never recovered from the trauma of his childhood abandonment and abuse. He internalizes his pain rather than seeking help, highly self-critical, feeling unworthy of care, and isolates himself rather than face rejection. Michael is devastated by failure, every loss a blow to his confidence, and holds himself personally responsible for the consequences of actions only tangentially related to his own.

-hyper-sensitive/unstable
Michael's hyper-sensitivity to the environment and people around him comes at a cost. Unable to turn his brain or heart off, he has no filter, seeing and feeling everything, including the pain of others. When the stimulus becomes too much to bear, he snaps, lashing out at himself and whoever is closest. Losing direction, or sense of purpose, causes him to spiral out of control, or shut down completely.

Hypothalamic Hamartoma - Michael also has a tumor on his hypothalamus, which is terminal. The effects range from nose bleeds to migraines and loss of consciousness.

character information
name: Matthew Michael Murdock.
canon: Marvel (MCU).
canon point: Post- Season 2, after meeting Karen.
age: 30.

(canon) background: @ MCU Wikia.

abilities:

Hyper Senses

Most notable, and perhaps the sense that Matt utilizes the above the others, is his hearing. In his day job, he's used it to listen to heartbeats to determine whether or not someone is lying. As Daredevil, he listens for heartbeats and breathing to locate people, as well as listening for a shift in another person to detect an attack. He can pinpoint the sound of a person's shoes, or the sound their car makes, and use that as a way to follow them. His hearing is sensitive enough that he can listen to conversations from across a street.
While they aren't used as practically as his hearing, his taste, scent, and even touch are all effected equally. Together, they culminate in Matt's heightened proximity sense - this is what allows him to move freely through rooms without running into things, catch and throw, or jump off buildings and stick the landing.

Hand-to-Hand Combat

The first and only trainer Matt had was a man who led a ninja clan. Matt's fighting is a blend of several martial arts, playing into his unique situation. There is a strong influence from boxing in his style. He has no problem with using gymnastics to elevate his fighting, which allows him to go toe-to-toe with other martial artists, or with every day thugs on the streets of Hell's Kitchen. The only time he brings weaponry into his fighting is with a specially designed baton that he uses to disarm opponents, or knock them down.

strengths:

Determination

Matt survives solely based on his determination. He's attracted to a challenge and that pushes him to see it through. In his day-to-day life, when it comes to his profession, Matt will go above and beyond to find anything he can to help his client's cases. Often this bleeds into his life as a vigilante, where he uses his Daredevil persona to find information he can't access as Matt Murdock. His sheer will power has pushed him through literal life or death situations.

Belief in Good

While he can't be accused of being an optimist, Matt has a strong belief that change can be made for the better. He puts a lot of faith in the legal system and often preaches that the justice system can work if people prove that corruption isn't inherent in it. He believes that it gives bad people the chance to find the good in themselves, a chance for redemption and absolution. In Matt's eyes, no one is bad enough that they can't be saved. They just need someone to believe in them.

Adaptability

Matt's enhanced senses do give him an upper hand when it comes to his blindness (in fact, often times he can "see" better than people with sight), but he's had to learn to live in the world and balance both. He's had to prove himself at school and at work, to show others that he can earn his accolades and not rely on sympathy, not to mention how to survive day to day (ie. cooking, getting his laundry done, shopping). Over the years, he has learned methods of communication in a technology based world, how to research without reading books, and how his special skill set can be applied to more than fighting.

weaknesses:

Avoidance

Matt likes to keep his cards close to his chest. He prefers not to acknowledge his problems, least of all to other people. His personal motto could be 'It's fine.' Often, this manifests in him pushing people away, whether intentionally or unintentionally. If people aren't close to him, then he won't have to expose himself and face vulnerability.

Anger

His issues with anger have been with him a long time, more often than not focused at himself and what he believes are his own failures (from as far back as the death of his father to as recent as the death of his former girlfriend). Almost everything he does is somehow fueled by this - a lot of his early days as a masked man were powered more by his rage than his desire to make a difference. It's been known to cloud his judgment, so when things don't go the way he thinks they should, he can fly off the handle quicker than he should.

Arrogance

Matt believes that someone needs to fix his neighbourhood, and that he's the one who has to fall on the sword. He would rather do it by himself, because he believes that he's the only one who can. He's reluctant to ask for help or admit that he needs it. There are times when it toes the line with self-righteousness, and it's generally the main culprit in the issues that arise between Matt and his friends.

skills (optional): Talented lawyer (graduated law school summa cum laude), bilingual (English, Spanish), experience working in a variety of situations from established firms to his own start-up firm.

[Matt is still getting used to video interface, but having the alternative to voice-to-text is nice. For as advanced as technology is, sometimes words get jumbled. And it's not like Matt can double check before sending a post.

He's learned where to position the tablet and where to sit to get his whole face in, but there's a distinct lack of focus into the camera.
]

I think I should start earning my keep around here. No one wants to be a useless member of society, right? [A pause for a brief chuckle.]

I don't know how much it's needed here, but I'm offering my legal services. For anything, pro bono if needed. I think this is the most practical way I can contribute. Feel free to contact me privately, you can trust me with your confidentiality.

[He reaches out and the video ends, screen going dark.]

player information
name: Roy
age: 20+
contact: journal pm
other characters: James Flint (~diagenesis) of Black Sails.

character information
name: Ellie (popular assumption is that her last name is ‘Williams’ but she’ll... never give it out anyway.)
canon: The Last of Us
canon point: post-game
age: 15-ish and change.

(canon) background: Wikia link. Let me know if anything needs clarifying.
(original) world:

abilities: Ellie’s a normal baseline human girl who’s maybe better with a switchblade than any fifteen year old should ever be. She has experience handling firearms, bows and building molotov cocktails, both smoke and shrapnel bombs, and knows basic first aid.

strengths:

Bravery.
Ellie is absolutely the girl who will bring a pocket knife to a gunfight and say ‘bring it on, fucker’ to whoever she’s going up against. She is brave with her whole heart, not only physically but also when it comes to facing her emotions and having difficult conversations. By no means is she fearless. She grew up in a world where fear was the only thing that kept her alive in a lot of circumstances.

Joie-de-virve.
She serves as a contrast to Joel in a lot of situations. She finds joy in the smallest things. Comic books. Learning how to whistle. She genuinely enjoys learning about the world the way it used to be, although she doesn’t seem to long to inhabit it. It's not that she doesn't see darkness, necessarily - it's that she balances it with the light still left in the world. She's wise beyond her years in many respects.

Self-Reliant.
With a notable absence of strong adult figures in her life for most of it, Ellie learned from a young age how to take things into her own hands. Nothing’s ever been handed to her, she wants to contribute and help when someone is around her because that’s her way of repaying the kindness of Sticking Around. She is clever and quick, capable of coming up with strategies and plans under pressure. They aren't always the best, but she's learning.

weaknesses:

Impulsive.
Remember that thing about a knife to a gun fight? Ellie doesn’t do a lot of looking before she leaps. She’s a very reactive person and can be extremely volatile, which can lead to her blowing small insults way out of proportion, leap to startlingly incorrect conclusions and just generally be a Teenager. She can be prickly and abrasive at the best of times, but it only worsens when she feels threatened. Due to canon events, she can also be very suspicious of New People.

PTSD/survivor’s guilt.
She’s a girl who has seen monsters, has watched people die, has herself killed living, breathing humans. She has learned some very hard, uncomfortable truths of the world. She is really, really not Okay. She knows it. She tries very hard to deal with it. But as the game progresses and certain events transpire we really see her go from someone who is outgoing and enthusiastic to someone who is very withdrawn and for lack of a better word, world-weary. She says at one point that she wants to believe that everything that’s happened should mean something, that their suffering can’t just be for nothing. Her greatest fear in the world is being alone.

Anti-authority.
Okay, so you’re an adult. Cool, now get fucked. Ellie isn’t really inclined to offer respect where none is earned, and since she also seems to have no sense of self preservation (probably as tied to the above) she will mouth off to absolutely a n y o n e. This ranges variously throughout the series from someone whose help she needs to someone who has her locked in a cage and has beaten her unconscious. She tends to assume that people ordering her around means they don’t trust her own judgement and ability, and she reacts accordingly.

skills (optional): she is definitely not going to want to go to school but doesn’t really have any appropriate job skills that aren’t like. Hunting animals or killing people. Up to you?
housing (optional): Maybe somewhere quieter? Not quite a private room but maybe something shared with just one or two people. Stronnnnng preference for being roomed with women, though, because if she’s put with a strange guy he might get shived in his sleep.
