riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

character information
name: Damian Wayne
canon: DC comics: Rebirth
canon point: Batman #35
age: 13

(canon) background: wiki link
(original) world: N/A

abilities:
Martial arts: When Damian learned to walk he was taught to fight, and before age 10 he was skilled in martial arts, hand-to-hand combat and sword fighting.

Voice mimic: He can alter his voice to sound like anyone be it a woman or full-grown man. This skill has proven to work in even fooling Batman’s voice-controlled security system.

Weapon proficiency: He has mastered the use of most weapons but excels in things like swords and projectiles.

Acrobatic: Being a Robin and the pupil of Dick Grayson, Damian is quite agile and quick. Often using acrobatic flips and maneuvers in combat.

Enhancements: Born out of an artificial womb, his mother has said that Damian was “Perfected”. Damian has displayed above average strength making him able to deal punches just as hard as any adult, sensitive hearing and heightened endurance. He is by no means invulnerable, but he can take some pretty hard hits.

Intelligence: Likely tied to the enhanced genetics. Damian is capable of retaining a lot of information and accomplish things that no child should. He was raised with the very best tutors from around the world and has stated that had his mother not killed his teacher he could’ve received a doctoral degree by age 5.

Bilingual: He has been seen speaking Spanish and Chinese but is said to know upwards of 8 different languages.

Mechanic: Damian likes to build his own custom motorcycles and has even added Jet capabilities to a Batmobile.

Tech savvy: It is rare to find him without an electronic or a gadget and like every Robin, he is a decent hacker.

Artistic: The boy can paint and draw.

strengths:
Quick-thinker: Damian will often think up plans on the spot to take control of a situation or make a quick escape. Like using Maya’s sound tech to stop a raging bat-dragon, throwing Superboy off a roof to distract Lex Luthor, or quickly piecing together a tracking link from a dislocated Robot head... as he’s being chased down by an army of said robots.

Maturity: Damian has been through a lot, even death itself. So things like murder, death and the general horrors of humanity don't shake him. He can walk into a fresh crime scene and not bat an eye. He can be hunted by assassins or tortured by villains, yet still, manage to form plans and keep his cool.

Loyalty: Trust is hard earned with Damian, but once he trusts someone he’ll stick with them through thick and thin. Sometimes putting himself at risk to protect his friends and family. Like handing himself over to his grandfather to stop the man from sending assassins after his Titans, giving his life to protect his Father’s city from a meta bomb or engaging Deathstroke in a challenge to get his attention off trying to kill Maya. Things that Damian loves come rarely and far apart, so when they do, he tends to hold tight.

weaknesses:
Ego: Prideful, stubborn and determined. Damian can’t stop. Won't stop. His whole life the boy has been told to be the best and has had a lot to live up to, so it can make him cocky. He often takes on more than he can handle because he believes he can handle anything.

Impulsiveness: Quick thinking is all well and good, but his choices don't always end well. He tends to rush into things believing himself to be right which has gotten himself and others into trouble. Batman has even stated that Damian’s lack of control over his impulses is his greatest concern for his son.

Loyal to a fault: While being a strength, his loyalties can give him tunnel vision. It not only makes him far too self-sacrificing, (See Loyalty in strengths section) but Damian tends to take things too far, believing he must do what his loved ones are not willing to do. Even going so far as breaking his father’s “No-kill” rule on a villain that came close to taking Bruce’s life.

Social skills: He has near to none. Damian was raised to be an assassin and to dispose of anything in his way, which often meant killing. This has given him a pretty bad attitude and can be really off putting. While he now has sworn to no longer kill he still has trouble telling right from wrong and his responses to things can be pretty overkill. Like interrogating a jaywalker because obviously Jaywalking is just the gateway to a life of bigger crimes.

job skills (optional): Detective, genius intelligence, martial artist, organized and great with animals.
housing (optional): Surprise me.

character information
name: Shama "Trenton" Biswas
canon: MR ROBOT
canon point: End of season 2
age: 18

(canon) background: wiki

abilities: hacking, genius IQ

strengths:

Determined: Trenton is an extremely determined individual. She immigrated with her parents to America when she was young. She wants to believe in the American dream and to make it possible but she sees that her parents moved there to end up in jobs they aren't happy in just to make ends meet and provide a better life for her and her brother. She's determined and dedicated to seeking justice for the American dream and to make life better for everyone. Her determination is also shown in how she is studious to her studies and being the best daughter to her family that she can be.

Compassionate: Trenton is by far one of the most compassionate characters in the show. It is partly her personality and also probably her deep commitment to her Muslim faith. She can be seen quietly caring for people around her. She rolls Romero's blunt for him because he can't do it as well himself. Her kindness and compassionate is never out of the ordinary or overstated but simply a facet of who she is and it bleeds into almost all of her actions.

Genius IQ: Trenton is by all accounts a genius. She's meticulous and detail oriented and observant. However, these things are enabled by her intelligence. It is what helps her be such an extraordinary hacker and student. She is the only one in FSociety who was able to find a way that they might be able to undo their 5/9 hack.

weaknesses:

Passive: One of Trenton's biggest flaws is her passivity. Often, even when she knows she is correct about something a louder and more brash personality can easily shut her down. She doesn't often stand up for her ideas until she becomes desperate and even then it is with a soft spoken and hesitant way. There would have been many things that would have probably gone better for FSociety if Trenton had been more willing to fight.

Devout: In a way, being devout is one of Trenton's biggest assets but it hinders her ability to always make the best decision for the group or even for herself. She struggles to maintain her faith while doing things that are illegal and perhaps morally ambiguous. Her devotion become slightly hypocritical because of this.

Judgmental: Trenton can sometimes be a bit judgmental. It doesn't present itself openly often. The only time she seems to (and it's warranted) is talking to Mobley about his friend who walks in on her when she's in the restroom. She has a clear disdain for him and looks down on him. For the most part she internalizes her judgments and doesn't behave harshly toward anyone for them.

Emma Swan | Once Upon a time | Reserved

player information
name: Beth
age: 43
contact: [profile] bookenthusiast or murgy#2063 on Discord
other characters: N/a

character information
name: Emma Swan
canon: OUaT
canon point: Season 4 episode 1
age: 30ish (time is kind of relative in Once)

(canon) background: here
(original) world: N/a
abilities: Emma is the product of true love, and therefore has a crazy amount of magic available to her. I chose the following based on where she is at in canon.

- Telekinesis
- Object rebuilding
- Pyrokinesis
- Portal opening
- Defensive magical blasts of light (She can repel someone, not harm them)
- Emotional fluctuation of electrical items
- Use of magical items
- Leveling up by creating stronger magic with the support of someone else's
- Temperature control
- Creation of protective barriers
- Lie detection- although when she is overly emotional she really sucks at it.

Abilities even without belief.

- Natural ability to detect lies/read people
- Detective skills
- Use of guns, swords, knives in general
- Hand to hand combat
- Lying her way through a bad situation
- Street smart

strengths: Emma is strong and durable. She believes that she’ll always come out on top because she’s fighting for the side of good. She doesn’t let the world beat her down and has overcome many trials to get to where she is now. She prides herself on being able to do things without help though she won’t let her pride get in the way of accepting help when she needs it.

She’s understanding and firm while also being kind and caring to those she loves. Emma has an amazing power to believe. It’s an ability that she had learned from her son and it continues to define her. This belief makes her stronger and allows her to have hope during the times when all hope seems lost. This is a testament to Emma’s birth. The power of true love and its magic. It has taken Emma a long time to believe, but the love of her family and friends has shown her that love is indeed a powerful weapon.

Finally, Emma can be selfless. She will do anything to keep the people that she loves safe, including sacrificing herself. She knows how selfish she’s being when she makes this choice, forcing those she cares about to live without her, but Emma believes in the greater good.

weaknesses: One of Emma's greatest weaknesses is her feelings of abandonment. Emma was a baby who was left on the side of the road and grew up in foster care. She was left by the one person that was sent to protect her making Emma grew up thinking that no one wanted her or loved her. Her abandonment issues fed into the wariness that enveloped her like a warm comfortable blanket. "I had it, back when I was in the foster system. Just a lost little girl, who didn't matter, and didn't think she ever would. A little girl, who cried herself to sleep at night 'cause... she wanted her parents so bad. And could never understand... why they gave her up." Emma's quote from season three sums up exactly why she feels abandoned and unloved, and what a disservice those feelings did for her. She has a difficult time opening herself up and trusting others. Emma’s fairytale story is based off the ugly duckling who is constantly looking for her family and the place that she belongs.

She is stubborn. Going as far as to believe that she is a lost girl and doesn't deserve to be loved. She doesn’t bend on her views and will stick to them even when she’s wrong. Due to this trait, it takes her a lot longer to be steered towards the right path.

Emma is also a little childish at times. She eats like a kid, preferring hot chocolate and grilled cheese if it’s available. She takes care of herself but there is a limit and disadvantage to things because she hadn’t grown up with a traditional family. She can’t cook and, at times, she has trouble getting along with others.
job skills (optional): She can track things using magic or otherwise. She is also pretty good at protecting people
housing (optional): no preference

Patroclus | The Song of Achilles | Reserved

player information
name: Garshil
age: 21+
contact: PM or [plurk.com profile] subtextequals
other characters: Ronan Lynch

character information
name: Patroclus
canon: The Song of Achilles
canon point: Immediately after his death
age: 27

(canon) background: http://the-song-of-achilles.wikia.com/wiki/Patroclus The wiki is incomplete. It’s a retelling of the Iliad but with key differences (Achilles is super gay, Briseis is into Patroclus, Patroclus isn’t a warrior) so I will summarize.

Patroclus was born to Menoitius, a wealthy but undistinguished king who emotionally abused him. His mother was “simple” and couldn’t meaningfully interact with anyone.

For some reason, Menoitius takes a nine year old Patroclus to court Helen (yes, that Helen). All her suitors pledged to support whoever was chosen, including Patroclus. Not surprisingly, Helen does not want to marry a child, and Menoitius blames Patroclus for daring to be nine.

The next year, Patroclus accidentally kills a boy when they fight over dice. Menoitius disowns him and sends him to King Peleus, father of Achilles. Achilles takes him as a companion and introduces him to his mother, the goddess Thetis. Thetis hates him and spends the rest of Patroclus’s life trying to scare him away from her son.

When they’re thirteen, Patroclus kisses Achilles. Achilles panics and runs away. Achilles leaves to train with Chiron the next morning. Patroclus literally runs after him. Chiron offers to train Patroclus to fight, but he chooses to study medicine instead. Eventually, Patroclus and Achilles became lovers.

After three years with Chiron, they’re called back by Peleus to fight in the Trojan war. But first Thetis kidnaps Achilles. Patroclus finds Achilles in Scyros (and also in a dress because Thetis’s plans are weird). They try to leave but the princess Deidameia reveals she is both married to Achilles and pregnant. Patroclus storms off but Achilles explains that his mother forced him to do it. Deidameia is sent into confinement to hide her pregnancy but first she seduces Patroclus.

Odysseus comes and tricks Achilles into revealing himself. They learn of the prophecy that if Achilles goes to Troy he’ll die but become famous. Naturally, they go to Troy.

Agamemnon promises his daughter she’ll marry Achilles but instead he sacrifices her so the goddess Artemis will let them sail. This haunts Achilles until they arrive at Troy and he realizes he really likes killing people. Meanwhile, Patroclus only survives because Achilles protects him. Eventually, everyone realizes he’s a much better healer so they let him do that.

When they capture Trojan women, Patroclus makes Achilles claim as many as they can to save them from abuse. They take Briseis first. She and Patroclus become such good friends that Briseis kissed him. Somehow, Patroclus has the decency not to cheat on Achilles this time although he considers Briseis’s offer to have his child.

After nine years, Agamemnon takes Chryseis, servant of Apollo, who then sends a plague on everyone’s Greek houses. Achilles makes Agamemnon to return Chryseis. Agamemnon then takes Briseis. Achilles allows it, knowing that if Agamemnon rapes Briseis, the gods and the men will turn against him because of the Greek code of conduct. This is the last straw for Patroclus. He goes to Agamemnon and tells him of Achilles’s plan, saving Briseis from rape.

Achilles stops fighting. Without him, the Greeks lose badly. Once the Trojans start burning their ships, Patroclus convinces Achilles to give him his armor so he can pretend to be him and scare the Trojans off. Patroclus breaks his promise not to fight the Trojans and drives them back to Troy. In a frenzy, he tries to climb Troy’s walls. Apollo drops him onto the ground and removes all of his armor. Hector then kills him.

As a shade, Patroclus witnesses Achilles’s reaction to his death, which includes the following: sobbing, screaming, keeping Patroclus’s corpse in their tent, whining to his mom, some more screaming, killing Trojans, fighting a river, and then finally killing and desecrating Hector’s body before sobbing again. After a lot of fighting, Paris (with Apollo’s help) puts Achilles out of his misery and his ashes are mixed with Patroclus’s.

Achilles’s son by Deidameia, Pyrrhus, arrives and orders that the monument on their grave only have Achilles’s name, preventing Patroclus from entering the underworld. Patroclus watches Pyrrhus commit atrocities and kill Briseis. Years later, Thetis, who had rejected her son in disgust at his grief, finally comes to mourn Achilles. Angry and no longer afraid, Patroclus taunts her when he learns that Pyrrhus was murdered for being an all around awful person. He says that while Pyrrhus will be famous for his cruelty, Achilles may be famous for the good he has done. At Thetis’s questioning, he tells her their story. Thetis writes Patroclus’s name on Achilles’s monument. Finally, he and Achilles are reunited.

abilities: None

strengths:

Kind hearted - Patroclus is well known for this among the Greeks. As a healer, he saw everyone in the army at some point during the war, and he cares about every one of them. One of the reasons he’s upset enough to beg Achilles to fight is that he can’t stand to see these people hurt. He also cares about strangers, especially vulnerable ones as he helps save as many captured women as possible.

Perceptive - Patroclus notices things that others miss. He is good at picking up others’ reactions, even if their expression is fleeting. While he’s not smart enough to come up with strategies, once he hears a plan he immediately grasps it and can predict consequences that others may not have considered, such as when Achilles and his mother come up with the plan for Achilles to stop fighting. He knows from the start that it will backfire.

Loyal - The entire book is scene after scene of Patroclus making sacrifices for Achilles. He goes with him to Troy and stands by his decisions. The only time he betrays Achilles’s trust is to save Briseis from being raped, which he defended as choosing a friend over Achilles’s hubris. So even then, he was being loyal to a friend.

Moral - Accidentally killing another boy left its mark on Patroclus. He hates death and killing. Once it’s clear that Achilles enjoys fighting, Patroclus has trouble respecting him the way he used to. He himself refuses to kill until the end of the book, when his anger takes over and he wants to see the Trojans pay for hurting and killing his friends. He also hates people being mistreated or neglected, which is why he saves the Trojan women from rape.

weaknesses:

Passive - Patroclus almost always lets other people decide for him. While he has his own opinions of what they should do, he rarely voices them. This came from being raised in an abusive/neglectful household. He’s not just afraid of being ignored, he expects it. This is most noticeable with his interactions with Achilles, who he never fights with until the end of the war, but with everyone. He lets Chiron decide if he can train with him, which he’s chided for.

Eager to please - Patroclus will bend over backwards to make someone happy. He makes countless sacrifices for Achilles, but he also does other, more baffling things. He sleeps with Deidameia largely because he feels sorry for her and wants to do something to keep her from crying. He can’t stand disappointing someone. He even goes to war with him despite knowing that it will mean both their deaths.

Avoids confrontation - While Patroclus does much to overcome this hurdle by the time he’s died, it’s done only from necessity. It literally takes their ships and ways of escape burning down for him to finally tell Achilles that he’s doing the wrong thing. The few times he does confront someone is over extreme incidents, usually involving defending Achilles’s honor or trying to protect his friends from serious trauma or death. Whenever Thetis talks to him, she repeatedly insults him and tells him he’ll be dead soon anyway and he does nothing. Until Achilles hands over Briseis, Patroclus has never had a serious argument with him. He has always backed down and excuses it by saying he doesn’t know how to be angry at Achilles. In reality, he doesn’t know how to let himself be angry because he is afraid of an argument.

character information
name: Alex Fierro
canon: Magnus Chase & the Gods of Asgard
canon point: After Loki's locked up again, but before the epilogue.
age: ~17

(canon) background: Here

abilities: "Loki's Brood" - As a child of Loki, Alex is capable of shapeshifting, and does so very naturally at this point. In fact, she's been doing it since she realized that she's genderfluid, matching her physical sex to her gender at any given time. She's also technically capable of powerful magic--seidr--but at this time she doesn't know much about it. Loki did teach her how to turn anything into a weapon, so that's sort of the one bit of magic she's taken to.

Einherji - Because she died a hero and was chosen by a Valkyrie (her sister), Alex also happens to have a handful of dead teenage warrior abilities. Mainly, she's much, much stronger than a regular old human, much faster, has better senses in general, and she's technically immortal. She's also a lot harder to kill in general.

She also has at least one ability that comes from her father's side of the family (hinting at Alex's connection to potentially another godly pantheon), which is the ability to create clay golems.

strengths: Alex refuses to allow herself to be ashamed of who or what she is, and she especially refuses to allow anyone else to shame her; she's a survivor and is proud of it. As such, she tends to be a little brash and cocky, quick to make herself heard and intolerant of prejudice and ignorance. She's glad to help educate someone who's genuinely interested and has questions, but she wants people to first take the initiative to learn what they can on their own.

She's very self-aware, and realizes that the way she grew up was unhealthy and left behind problems and scars, and she copes with a lot of her emotional issues by channeling that energy into her pottery.

When she's around people she likes, she's relaxed and funny, with a sarcastic sense of humor. She likes to dish it out, and she can take it, too, as long as people don't get personal or bring her gender into it. Her hallmates in Valhalla have more or less become her family, and Magnus and Samirah are especially important to her. Though relationships can be difficult for her to form, she's incredibly loyal once her trust has been earned.

Unsurprisingly, Alex is also very adaptable. She's a child of Loki, a shapeshifter, and she embodies less of her mother's trickster nature and more of his chaotic, ever-changing nature.

weaknesses: As a child, her father abused and mistreated her, and her stepmother let it happen. Because of this and her years being homeless, Alex has developed a very jaded, suspicious nature. She suspects everyone, particularly adults, because in her experience, very little good comes of associating with them. It takes a great deal to earn her trust, because people she should have been able to trust betrayed her over the years.

She's a very private person, and though she's shared a few things about her background with her friends, for the most part she keeps stubbornly silent about what she's endured up until now. She was even willing to refuse healing by Magnus because she didn't want him in her head seeing her memories. She doesn't like to make herself vulnerable, because she's learned the hard way that it's a quick way to get hurt.

She struggles a great deal with anger, given the things that have happened to her all her life, and sometimes that manifests itself through violence. Thankfully, she channels that violence and anger through healthy means (or daily battles in Valhalla), but it makes her uncomfortable that she still can't let it go.

abilities: Like the other Skywalkers, Kylo Ren's Force-sensitive, possessing a great degree of raw power and potential. Here's an overview of Force abilities! In Ren's case, he's trained with both the Light and the Dark Sides of the Force, and is shown excelling in telekinesis and telepathy. Specifically, he can use the Force to freeze people in place, stop a blaster bolt mid-air, and forcefully (heh) throw them around like ragdolls. With telepathy, Ren doesn't seem to rely on subtler techniques like Jedi mind tricks, but rather takes an invasive approach, favoring probing the minds of his victims to take the information he desires. Because he lacks the self-control of, say, Darth Vader, his own uses of the Force are more explosive, blunt, and heavy handed than his grandfather's more impassive cruelty.

He's also a skilled lightsaber combatant, and he possesses a breadth of knowledge about the Force, both from his Jedi training and his research into the Dark Side.

strengths: The strengths that Kylo Ren possesses are, generally speaking, aimed in all the wrong ways and applied to all the wrong things. However, they point to a capacity to be truly great, if only he'd pull his head out of his ass.

AMBITIOUS: In order to achieve his level of control over the Force, Kylo Ren is clearly somebody who possesses not only raw talent, but the drive to keep studying, training, and pushing himself to master his abilities. He isn't content to sit on his laurels; he must excel. As the rightful heir to Darth Vader's legacy, he must finish what his grandfather started. He must bring order to the galaxy. His ambitions are cruel and, frankly, terrible, but they also show that he's somebody who can't and won't be complacent. In this sense, he's very much like his mother.

DISCIPLINED: His bearing suggests some degree of discipline, which ties back to his driven nature. Ren is somebody who can (with effort) push aside sentimentality to make difficult decisions and achieve what he believes must be done. Again, the problem is that he applies this in the wrong way, but if he were to dedicate himself to something worthwhile, then this aspect of his personality would be a remarkable asset, the mark of a true leader.

PULLED TO THE LIGHT: Leia's hope that a part of her son still lives isn't unfounded. For all his cruelty and viciousness, for all of the terrible acts he commits (and they are many), that flicker of goodness inside of him still refuses to be snuffed out. Where his grandfather was seduced by the Dark Side, Ren's seduced by the Light. He's not beyond saving; he has the potential to turn back, and he knows it (and fears it).

weaknesses: Kylo Ren's weaknesses exist on the same spectrum as his strengths, just at opposite ends, resulting in a constant struggle to overcome them and achieve his full potential. He's constantly picking at the wounds of his past, from growing up feeling neglected in the shadows of his parents' passions and ambitions, leaving them raw, exposed and unable to heal. This is what lies beneath many of his weaknesses.

MYOPIC: Ren's full of rage and resentment, leading to a sort of tunnel vision where he refuses to see past his own sense of having been wronged by his parents. In his mind, whatever he does is just and right, and he won't listen to anything else. When his father points out that Snoke is using him for his power, he won't hear it.

TEMPERAMENTAL: Ren feels things very strongly, and while being emotional isn't-- in and of itself-- a weakness, it is when taken to the extremes that he does. He's given to explosive fits of rage, and throws tantrums so often that even amongst the lowest rungs of the First Order see it as business as usual (and know to avoid him in this state).

CONFLICTED: As previously stated, Ren's aware of his pull to the Light, and he fears it. This leads him to lash out and overcompensate in his attempts at cutting out the good in him, resulting in him choosing to murder his own father. He struggles between love and hatred, light and dark, etc., and he repeatedly makes the conscious decision to pick hatred, anger, darkness, and evil. He also has fears of inferiority inherent in his conflict, worrying that he'll never be as strong as Darth Vader, who he admires but also views critically for allowing emotions to override his commitment to the Dark Side.

job skills (optional): Combat skills (specifically with the lightsaber), piloting (and some mechanics/engineering to go with that), and uh nerdy arcane research.
housing (optional): Probably best not to house him with any castmates, PLS AND THX.

character information
name: Ragnar Lothbrok
canon: Vikings
canon point: Post 1.08 "Sacrifice"
age: 31

(canon) background: here

abilities: farming, fishing, hunting (tracking, bow and arrow), ax and shield fighting, sailing and navigating, commanding a group of warriors, horseback riding, has learned to speak Old English

strengths: From a very young age, Ragnar was well known in his village for his intelligence and cunning. Outstanding members of the Viking community often become renowned because of great deeds, victories or creations. Ragnar's first notable victory, and the source of his namesake Lothbrok, involved him thinking up a very inventive way to defend against an enemy's notorious attack in order to defeat the infamous warrior. He prefers well thought out plans of attack, even devious or underhanded ones, to ineffective brute force. This way of strategic and critical thinking makes him a good commander, able to use his men's strengths to his advantage and to exploit enemy weaknesses.

More than just intelligence, Ragnar is naturally very inquisitive and open minded. He has a deep desire to experience different customs, places and people. Naturally, being a viking, he also wants to conquer those places, but more than that he simply wants to see and experience them. On the other hand, he's prone to questioning old tried and true, traditional ways of doing things in favor of new ideas and methods. This can make him clash with those who value tradition and resist change. He also seems to obsess over discovery and exploration. Once he's heard tales about new places he hasn't been, he often does everything in his power to go there. Although he has a penchant for raiding the new places he goes to, he's surprisingly receptive to learning about different cultures, religions and peoples, and seems to genuinely want to understand them. He has a deep desire to know more about of the world around him.

Lastly, Ragnar is a force of nature when it comes to how relentless he is. Some might argue this quality is as much a weakness as it is a strength since it often means he absolutely refuses to give up even when a fight is all but lost, but Ragnar's unrelenting personality has mostly been a strength thus far. Often times he's out-manned by his enemies but ends up beating them through sheer determination. This attitude has kept him fighting when close to mortally wounded and becomes one of his most feared and fearsome qualities as a warrior and a leader.

weaknesses: Ragnar's biggest, glaring weakness is his unwavering, unapologetic and unrelenting loyalty to the people he loves. Wait, loyalty as a weakness? In Ragnar's case, it most definitely is because he lets it cloud his otherwise very reasonable and cunning decision making. Ragnar lets his single-minded loyalty and love for some people blind him to the point of sacrificing tactical advantages, favorable positions, public favor, and his own well-being in very careless ways. It also leads to him forgiving people or looking the other way in a way that others would possibly consider completely foolish. This loyalty definitely encompasses all of his children, which he has a special soft spot and would do anything for, his brother, and a small handful of trusted friends.

As forgiving as he is towards his small inner circle, Ragnar has no mercy for anyone outside of it who would speak ill about him or act against himself or his loved ones. He is vengeful and violent and has a terrifying, quiet, icy rage. Arguably worse than the loud, obvious kind of anger that is easy to read and gauge, Ragnar will often say nothing and seem not to react... until he brutally and unapologetically cleaves the offending party's head open in public without so much as batting an eye. His revenge is usually just as brutal, bloody, unapologetic and epic. It seems the overkill is less about making an example out of the person and more just simple, unbridled rage.

Lastly, Ragnar can be insufferably cocky and smug. At the best of times he's simply confident, or at least comes off as very confident in himself, his capabilities and his decisions. Self doubt isn't something he often experiences and, if he does, he certainly never lets anyone else see it. The reason why this is a definite weakness is because of the negative attention it almost always gets him. He can't just simply win a fight or charm his way out of trouble, he has to be a smug asshole about it, which just makes his victory sting that much more. Not surprisingly, this often paints a huge target on his back.

job skills (optional): He'd let them know he could fight, farm or help with physical labor where needed.
housing (optional): No preference.

network username: ragnar (yeah, he's really creative... and also maybe doesn't understand the concept of usernames)

network sample:
[The video starts mostly focused on the fabric of a tunic, zooms in a little and blurs, and then zooms out enough so that most of Ragnar's face is on the screen.]

So... [His accent is obvious, something vaguely Scandinavian and he looks distracted, or maybe just uncertain as to what to say.] I've looked around this place, the place they've given us to stay. A bed. A chest for storage. A chair. A table. This is all good. [Before saying more, he gets up slowly and makes his way into a rather intimate place - the bathroom. People would immediately recognize the set up and look of the place as one of the bathrooms in the Community Housing. The video moves over the various utilities - sink, shower, toilet.]

I can make some guesses as to what these are for, but... if I'm being honest, it is still just a guess. And, um... [He moves out of the bathroom and walks towards the kitchen area.]

These? [He does a pan of the room.]

Basically, I am wondering if anyone with experience regarding these things would not mind showing me what they are for. [He doesn't look particularly pleased about having to ask for help, but at this point he's decided it's necessary.]

Inquisitor Lavellan | Dragon Age Inquisition

other characters: N/A

character information
name: Iona Lavellan
canon: Dragon Age Inquisition
canon point: After the mission to Adamant Fortress (Here Lies the Abyss) and the trip into the Fade
age: 21

(canon) background: Basic overview of Dragon Age Inquisition, and Lavellan’s part in the whole thing. Although, given Iona’s canon point, there’s some that she hasn’t experienced. Anything past Here Lies the Abyss.

Now, obviously, being the sort of game that Inquisition is, there are different paths that can be taken. For Iona, she allied with the mages rather than choosing to approach the templars, which meant she did a bit of time travelling with Dorian Pavus into the future. She chose to leave Stroud behind in the Fade.

abilities: Most of Lavellan’s abilities come from her class as a dual-wielding rogue, and her specialization into assassin. So she’s quick, incredibly stealthy, and can murder the fuck out of things.

The Anchor on her hand, however, does give her a few more... magical-like abilities. At her current canon point she can use the Anchor to permanently seal tears in the Veil. The largest of those is the Breach itself, but she uses it to close the smaller rifts as well. She also has an ability called ‘Mark of the Rift’, which allows her to momentarily open a rift (which, in-game, damages enemies; ostensibly by sucking them into/towards it). I suspect that that (and the future abilities that will come with potential canon updates) will need a little bit of nerfing.

As well, she’s able to pick just about any lock in Thedas, track (mostly used for animals; having been trained as a hunter for the Lavellan clan, it kind of comes with the territory), as well as being very well read and an avid lover of books and research and learning.

strengths: Iona is protective, of those she cares about, of the people who have come to depend on her. She might not have chosen to be called the Herald of Andraste (particularly because she’s an elf and as such doesn’t... actually share those beliefs), or Inquisitor, but she is, and she tries her best to live up to that title. To give the Inquisition hope.

She’s brave, too, and determined, facing down Corypheus to buy her people time to escape Haven. Doing everything she can to thwart his plans and stop him from destroying the world and making himself a god. No matter the risk to herself.

Her charm is another strength; despite her tendency towards snark and sass, she’s able to talk her way into and around things. Win people over and get them to see her side. Let her (and the Inquisition) in. Give them a chance. Talk herself OUT of trouble as much as her mouth gets her INTO trouble.

weaknesses: She is... sarcastic, and mouthy, deflecting using humour and snark. Even when it might not be appropriate. Oh, as above, she can be pretty damn charming... but it’s when she wants to be. Chooses to be. Otherwise sass is the name of the game.

There is a whole lot of doubt in her, in her ability to do what the Inquisition needs her to do, to protect who she needs to protect. To save the world. The weight of the world is on her shoulders, and she doesn’t know if she’s the best elf for the job. They deserve someone better.

Iona can be... kind of short-tempered. She doesn’t have time for assholes, especially assholes who treat others horribly, like they’re less than human, that tread on the freedoms of others. She triiiiiiies to be open-minded, to give people a chance, but having dealt with people’s views on elves up close and personal... no.

Being something of a ‘lead from the front’ sort of woman – it comes with the whole ‘one person who has the Anchor and can therefore stop Corypheus before he fucks everything up’ thing, she has a tendency to be reckless. To fling herself into the fray; a side effect of her protectiveness. She already is putting herself between Corypheus and the world, she might as well do the same on a smaller scale.

job skills (optional): Research, learning, books, combat, forest survival skills
housing (optional): I would like her to live somewhere close to Dorian, so somewhere on floor 10, if at all possible.

network username: Dirthara

network sample: [Iona doesn’t like the cold. Turns out that almost dying in an avalanche and then the following blizzard kind of does that to an elf. So when the feed kicks on she looks very, very irritated. And very, very cold.]

Andraste’s tits, it’s cold. Please tell me this is a brief interlude, and it’s going to warm up sooner, rather than later? I managed to avoid dying in an avalanche. I would like to continue to avoid freezing to death if at all possible.

Here!
Would it be possible for gyda to get a tutor until next term? Her reading level is currently more at a first grade level than at her age and less for maths, so she’d be way behind her age group unless allowed to catch up.
