riverview: applications

applications: open

Applications will be open from 10:00 PM EST on the 1st of every month until 10:00 PM on the 7th of every month. They will be processed as quickly as possible after they are submitted; if you have not received a response by the 10th of the month, feel free to contact the mod.

Applications will be open from October 1st until December 7th, and will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

● Please post the entirety of your application in a comment to this entry.

Applications may receive a verdict of Approved, Declined, or Revisions.

Declined applications can be reworked and resubmitted during the next application cycle. If an application is declined 3 times, it cannot be resubmitted.
Revisions must be submitted within 48 hours of the revision request being sent out. If this is impossible due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mod.

● There are currently 58 Character Slots still available in the game.

● While the game is close to character cap, reserved applications will be processed before unreserved applications, with unreserved applications being processed at the end of the cycle until cap is reached.

Application Queue: All applications that would put the game over character cap will be placed in the queue below and processed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications in queue will be processed as drops happen, regardless of whether the application cycle is complete.

● Casts at or close to Cast Cap: Marvel Cinematic Universe: 15/15; Marvel Comics: 12/15

application guide

● Accepted character types: fandom, original, canon AU
● Non-accepted character types: fandom OC, AU
● The character limit is 2, with 2 apps allowed per month; players can buy up to a maximum of 4 character slots with AC bonus points. There is a cast cap of 15 characters per cast at this time.
● Linked samples should be no older than 1 year.
● Application challenges are not allowed at this time, but if you would like to apply for a character that is on reserve, please submit the application with "not reserved" noted in the subject line, and your application will be considered if the reserved application is declined or not turned in.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 04/02/2017: Applications must fit in ONE COMMENT on the application page. In special situations such as original characters or canon characters without an information link, please try to keep the summary concise and stick to major turning points. If you have been as concise as possible and it absolutely will not fit in one comment, please store the background section in an entry on your journal/musebox/website and link it to keep the application within one comment.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 02/03/2018: The Strengths and Weaknesses sections are a stand-in for the usual personality section and should relate to the character's personality strengths and weaknesses. These sections should not include anything related to abilities and the weaknesses should not be 'positives in disguise' (for example, stating that a character has a weakness to iron because they are a fairy would not be an acceptable response to the weaknesses section, nor would stating that a character is too generous). Every character has good and bad personality traits, please include both.

CLARIFICATION ADDED 03/10/2018: Linked samples must be from a publicly available source. Friends-locked samples are not acceptable for use (via screencaps or other methods), unless they have been unlocked and made public.

● A mod-created sample application can be found here. This is an example of a canon application. The strengths section has been filled out in bullet point form, and the weaknesses have been filled out in paragraph form - both options or a combination thereof are acceptable.

Sample Applications: Ronan Lynch (Canon Character; Written Background), Yuuri Katsuki (Canon Character; CRAU), Derek Hale (Canon Character; CRAU), Tolemi Pagoda (Original Character), Benjamin Holt (Original Character)

canon: Yuri!!! On Ice
canon point: Post Episode 10 + CRAU
age: 24

(canon) background: here

Eluvio CRAU:

↪ After talking to other PCs in Eluvio, Yuuri learned about other worlds/universes, and he learned to be more compassionate after learning how horrible some character's lives were (Star Wars: Rogue One and Voltron are examples) compared to his. Hearing about the struggles his new friends went through allowed him to realize just how sheltered a life he had led before arriving in Eluvio.

↪ After being told he would never see his friends and family from home again, Yuuri realized that he'd taken too long to appreciate them. After that, he put a lot more effort into being more social and tried to reach out to others more.

↪ Yuuri and Viktor had a few misunderstandings about their relationship in game, and as a result learned to actually start communicating with each other instead of assuming they were on the same page on important decisions.

↪ After hearing that the Captain and his crew might be withholding important information from the PCs, Yuuri learned to be more careful about when/where to share information. The situation also left him feeling helpless and frustrated enough to become more proactive about trying to gather information through talking/questioning the NPCs.

↪ Yuuri volunteered for a mission to the first planet they passed, thinking it would be relatively easy and safe. He and his teammates were able to connect with the Fek, who were part of the mission, and left the planet with a better understanding of Oros and its natives. Because of that, Yuuri felt compelled to help with the evacuation efforts when he heard that Oros was being bombed to nuclear winter.

↪ He and his teammates were later named liaisons to the survivors of the same native group after the evacuations. While helping the Fek transition into life on the Eluvio, Yuuri and his teammates were able to pick up some diplomacy skills.

↪ After a mysterious killer brutally murdered a few characters on the ship, and also while remembering how unprepared for the Oros mission he was, Yuuri decided to start learning self defense for his own safety.

abilities:
Figure Skating: He's a professional figure skater who competes at the international level.

Fitness/Athleticism: Being a world-class athlete means that his fitness level is way up there. While he doesn't have combat experience, the kind of training regime he puts himself through means he can probably keep up for the most part when it comes to speed or stamina.

Dance: He has some proficiency in picking up different dance styles. He's most familiar with ballet, but has been shown doing some ballroom dancing, break dancing, and also pole dancing.

Languages: Seems to enjoy learning different languages! He's fluent in Japanese and English, and has also been shown saying phrases in Thai and Russian.

strengths:
Drive: As soon as Viktor comes into the picture, Yuuri's drive and determination become increasingly obvious. Instead of letting the fact that he's fallen out of top shape get to him, Yuuri throws himself into training so that he can learn from Viktor to the best of his abilities. He's shown pushing himself to the limit, practicing hours and hours without complaint, and continuing to train even when his feet are bruised and beat up.

Fortitude: Despite the struggles his "mental weakness", as he calls it, puts him through, Yuuri's willingness to continue fighting through it shows a great strength of character on his part. Though Yuuri suffered really humiliating losses in both the Grand Prix Finals and the Japanese Nationals, he tries to pick himself up when he gets back to his hometown in Japan. He also shows this strength when he tells Yuuko that he kept skating because he didn't want to feel so down anymore. In the end, Yuuri doesn't let his "mental weakness" keep him from his love of skating or from giving the sport his all.

Willingness to change: Lack of self-esteem aside, Yuuri shows a willingness to listen to criticism and strive to improve himself for the better. He takes Viktor's criticism at a competition well, quickly correcting his attitude toward fellow competitors even in the same day. He also shows a sense of awareness in the speech he gives in Episode 5, clearly stating that he's become stronger because he can finally see the love around him now. Even without prompting, Yuuri has the ability to reflect on his own actions and come to the conclusion that he can do and be better, and that he'll certainly try his best to get there.

weaknesses:
Sensitivity: "Glass Heart" is one of the phrases Yuuri's official profile uses to describe him, and it's definitely fitting. Yuuri feels his emotions very deeply. While his ability to feel lends itself to his artistry in skating routines, it also means that more often than not, Yuuri can get overwhelmed by strong emotions. Negative emotions, in particular tend to get the better of him, making him freeze up and get caught up in his own thoughts.

Low self esteem: He often describes himself as a "dime a dozen" skater in the introductions, but this clearly isn't the case when other characters mention his status as Japan's top male skater. This disparity between what Yuuri says about himself and what others says about him could not make his lack of confidence more obvious. Not to mention, Yuuri seems confused when anyone looks up to him, as if he doesn't think he has any reason to be respected.

Emotional Distance: Yuuri refers to his anxiety as a mental weakness, and because he tends to close himself off when he feels vulnerable, he can sometimes come across as cold or unfriendly. Withdrawn as he can be, it can often be difficult for Yuuri to open up to people and make close friendships. Even for Viktor, someone Yuuri idolized, it took some time to draw Yuuri out of his shell for a much needed heart-to-heart.

skills (optional): Dancing, languages, fitness
housing (optional): With Viktor in shared housing, if possible!

character information
name: Ken Kaneki
canon: Tokyo Ghoul
canon point: Chapter 52 (after he is knocked unconscious)
age: 18

background: Ken Kaneki

abilities: (I'm sorry for the tl;dr, but "ghoul" is a species specific to canon with a lot of information, details and abilities, and it's hard to make sense out of it with just a quick explanation).

GHOUL
Ghouls are creatures that predate exclusively on humans. They resemble humans, being difficult to tell the two apart under normal circumstances, and although these are two separate species with different biology, physiology, diet and mentality they are similar enough to have offspring together (this is an extremely rare situation) or have ghoul organs transplanted onto humans. Ghoul organs were transplanted into Kaneki and thus he became a half-ghoul, half-human, retaining mostly ghoul characteristics.

>> biology .
In Tokyo Ghoul manga there is a specific type of cell that exists in both humans and ghouls called “Red Child cells”. A difference between the two species is that humans have a lower count of RC cells raging from 200-500, while a ghoul has an RC factor of about 1000-8000 and they can store these cells, unlike humans. These cells are stored in an organ called Kakuhou, and they travel through the body through specialized Rc cell vessels that spread from the Kakuhou to all of the body.

The RC cells flow through the body like blood and when they bind together they can become as solid, which is the reason why some would call them "liquid muscles"; they are the reason for every ghoul's ability, and specially form a predatory organ named Kagune. A ghoul gains these cells by consuming humans, and after they enter the bloodstream and then they move to and are stored in the Kakuhou, from where many RC Cell vessels spread out through the whole body.

Kakuhou
It's a sac-like internal organ that stores and concentrates RC cells, located on the on the back of the ghoul. According to the specific location the back, the kagune formed from there is given a specific name: shoulder area (called ukaku-type), below the shoulder blade (koukaku-type), by the waist (rinkaku-type) or at the tailbone (bikaku-type). It’s also possible for a ghoul to have more than one Kakuhou. Kaneki’s kahuhou is located by the waist, so he is a rinkaku-type.

Kagune
It's a predatory organ, however it's not always formed. It takes shape thanks to the RC cells stored at the Kakuhou: whenever the ghoul needs this organ, they bind together, harden and then pierce through the Kakuhou and skin and become external. The ghoul may decide if they wish for the kagune to remain softened (sort of like a flame or water) or hardened (an actual physical form usually very sturdy). Generally speaking (with some exceptions, which I will mention specifically about rinkaku kagunes), kagunes can't be cut/destroyed by anything other than kagunes and one type of kagune can be defeated by another specific kagune type.

Kagunes are used as defense and offense. As they are physical "limbs" that can virtually cut through most materials, ghouls can use it to fight each other, fight Ghoul Investigators and of course kill their victims. Depending on the kagune's shape, they can use it as extra limbs (hands or legs) or as shields. Imagine a weird shaped sword that comes out of someone's back and it has amazing mobility (the whole "liquid muscle" thing), and it can kill you. Kagunes are capable of changing form and size according to the user's strength and imagination, which called kagune manipulation. As Kaneki is unable to even control his kagune, he is NOT able to manipulate his.

Kagunes can have special abilities (such as creating electricity or fire, detaching themselves, being reshaped into weird forms) and what each can do will depend on each kagune's form. Kaneki's kagune can grip things while Touka's can't, but Touka can form projectiles from her kagune, while Kaneki's can't.

Kaneki’s rinkaku looks like three red scaled tentacles with a scary striking power (it excels at brute strength), which makes it capable of winning against the defensive power of the koukaku thanks to the force of its strikes, but it’s weak against bikaku, that also has great strength but it’s less breakable. Indeed, while a rinakku's has extreme strength and the RC cells bind together with much ease, the binding force among them is weak and that makes the kagune fragile; that means enough force can indeed break Kaneki's kagune (a punch will not, but metal beams falling on it will).

Kakugan
When a ghoul’s RC cells react (even if the kagune isn’t released; it could be excitement, hunger or just threatening), the ghoul's eye turn red, the sclera turns black and red veins across the eye and into the skin around the eye. Kaneki only has one reactive eye because he is a half-ghoul.

RC cells pathways
cells travel through a ghoul's body using specialized vessels; when born, a ghoul contains a specific hereditary map of these vessels which allow the RC cells to travel through the body of a ghoul and in some cases, these vessels can be blocked or are simply too few, which doesn't allow the ghoul to use their kagune properly (for example, Gagi and Guge. To some extent, Banjo). However, half-ghouls are not born with any vessels at all and as such, they create it as they get hurt and/or the body requires RC cells. Kaneki's strength comes, not only from his own training, but also from any strong hit he endures -and that allows him to create more and more RC cell pathways every time a part of his body is mangled. This means every time Kaneki gets physically hurt, new pathways form, and thus stronger he becomes and faster his regeneration ability is.

This is also permanent and the pathways remain after created. The big downside for this is that Kaneki must be fed (without RC cells that he gains from human flesh, he can't do any of this, naturally) and that this "boost" is not immediate (the body needs time to adjust). As I'm taking Kaneki from a very early point in time, his pathways aren't very developed (only around the waist and kidney area thanks to his accident and the location of the Kakuhou) and he's still considered weak for many ghouls (except Banjou, who is even weaker).

Although pathways may not be created yet, it's heavily implied they slowly form themselves and can be trained. This is the reason why Kaneki still had ghoul strength even though he hadn't been hurt in certain places at the time. Physical injury simply allows a faster way for this to happen. The same can be seen for actual ghouls; Gagi and Guge had clotted pathways and could not use their kagune, and yet they still had much strength, could originate a kakugan, and had physical enhancement like every ghoul. Banjo, for example, was never able to use his kagune before, but with time was able to start using it.

>> diet .
A ghoul can only eat and digest humans due to an enzyme their body produces. In other words, anything coming from a human is used as nutrients, but nothing else can, leaving ghouls with little choice of diet habits. Thanks to their taste buds, anything that doesn't come from humans will taste really bad to a ghoul, enough that they'll have the urge to vomit, and can even make a ghoul ill if often consumed. The only exception to this is coffee (either brewed or not), however it's still unknown why.

A ghoul doesn't have to consume food as often as humans. One body is enough for a ghoul for about one-two months, however, many ghouls find pleasure in hunting and killing, thus they become avid eaters with no regards for human life. In return, starvation is hell, and it can drive one mad and take all of their reason away. A hungry ghoul might even feast on their friends and they rely simply on their instinct to find food and eat it; indeed, cannibalism can also occur.

While the flesh of another ghoul will taste awful (just like any non-human nutrient), they are able to digest it without the downside of human food. By cannibalizing another ghoul, they absorb the victim’s RC cells and it increases the concentration of them within the attacker. If repeated often, this eventually leads to mutate the RC cells of the attack and the kagune takes a new shape with increased power. The ghouls with a mutate kagune as result of cannibalism are called kakujas; Kaneki does NOT have a kakuja yet.

>> enhanced physical condition .
Physically speaking, a ghoul is much stronger than a human, able to send them flying if hit with enough strength. By using their bare hands, a ghoul can penetrate the human body, and with just a bite – even through the clothes – they are able to rip out the human flesh just as easily. However, an extremely strong human can still face off a ghoul as long the ghoul isn’t using their kagune. Roughly, a ghoul can be compared to the strength of about 9-10 men. Kaneki isn't extremely strong yet, but he can definitively handle fighting a regular-kind-of-weak ghoul.

Speed and reflexes are also enhanced. While Ukakus are known for their extra speed, the other ghouls can still be must faster, jump much higher, and havemuch more balance than a regular human. With their agility and muscle strength, they can jump several meters high, as well as land from a big fall without much of a problem. Kaneki has this, but he is still training himself.

Endurance depends on a ghoul, but they are much more resilient. Ghouls can take critical hits and still survive and some even keep going. kaneki is known for his endurance and ability to withstand a lot of pain and torture, but in the canon point I'm taking him from, he still hasn't gone through anything like that.

It's thanks to their regeneration, also strength, and of course the RC cells, a ghoul's skin cannot be pierce by much; a gunshot to the head will not work. Ghouls have a tougher body than most regular solid materials and are capable to withstand them. Knives cannot piece their body, for example. Only stronger materials can do so, or a strong enough force (like metal bars falling on top of a ghoul from huge heights, yeah that can kill them). Membranes, however – such as the eyes, lips, nostrils (and the rest…) can be easily pierced and there are even laboratory-created products that can block the RC cells binding, which renders the ghoul's abilities null.

Ghouls also have regeneration abilities thanks to their RC cells as well, that travel from the Kakuhou to the wound through the pathways (or, in a half-ghoul's case, new pathways are created as they pass through the body). Small wounds and fractures heal in a matter of hours to a day and grave wounds heal after a few days, as long as a ghoul has adequate food supply. However, wounds caused by kagunes take much longer to heal and may eventually be fatal; the same goes for a ghoul bite. Kaneki has a huge regenerative ability due to his kagune type; rinkakus rely greatly on their regenerative abilities thanks to Rc cells that easily bind together. However, once again, his regeneration also comes from the RC pathways, as they are continuously being created whenever he gets hurt.

Finally, they have heighten senses. Kaneki not so much (specially not from the canon point I took him from), but many ghouls are seen capable of smelling people from big distances, hearing them to the point of being able to pinpoint details such as size and exact location, or even see better at night. While kaneki can certainly smell everything better than a human (since most things smell awful to him, thanks to not being able to eat most thing - except humans), he still needs to train everything else. And yes, it can be trained.

strengths:
Gentle - Kaneki is softly-spoken, polite and smiles a lot when talking to others. He is generally pleasant and rarely gives the impression he dislikes someone and avoids showing how uncomfortable he might be. He is kind and tries to act morally; he tries to do the right thing and to make people feel good when interacting with him, regardless of what he is feeling. Kindness (and also trust) towards others is one of his biggest traits, which is thanks to his mother’s words “A kind person only needs love and kindness to be happy”.

Self-sacrificing - Kaneki strongly believes and tries to follow his mother’s philosophy: “instead of a person who hurts others, become the person who gets hurt”. This might be a bad trait to some, but it shows how much Kaneki cares for another. He often forgets himself and would rather be the one suffering, so other people won’t. People he cares for and people that matter to him are often the main focus of these actions: for them, he is the kind of person to think of their safety first and then of himself.

Adaptable - Kaneki was put in very difficult situations and though he is terrified of them and what he became, he still adapted to every single thing thrown at his face. He very smart and resourceful, and this allows him to adapt to his new reality, no matter how insane it sounds (being turned into a ghoul). He gets better at everything he does very fast and he is quite driven when he sets his mind to do something, so he overcomes obstacles quicker than expected, even if he looks like he is absolutely freaking out most of the time.

weaknesses:
Introvert - When others approach, Kaneki usually retreats to a shell of awkwardness. He certainly has a hard time talking to people and befriending them, as well as actually telling others what is on his mind. If there is interest, he will open up more (like when he was with Rize), but if it’s something he doesn’t really enjoy (like joining a club), he closes up. This is heavily related with his upbringing, and Kaneki usually keep things bottled up inside even when he has a serious internal struggle going on.

Trusts easily - he trusts others too fast or simply doesn’t realize when he is getting in way over his head. He is a gentle and kind soul and though he is introvert, when someone reaches out for him, he immediately sees the good in them and believes in them. His naivety may translate as idiocy at times and his naivety may make Kaneki overlook the obvious, but as someone so lonely like Kaneki and hard to relate to others, he does this so he’ll have someone.

Unreliable narrator – The way Kaneki describes his life isn’t always true, not because he means to lie, but because he was taught to see things that way. When addressing some subjects, he often speaks like there is no problem, even though it’s not true. For example, his inability to accept how lonely he truly is and how much that loneliness guided his actions, words, and his vision of the world. On another extreme, kaneki spent so much time praising his mother, only to later reveal that she physically abused him when he was a child. Kaneki is avoidant in many aspects and lies to himself the most, making up his own narration in order to keep going.

skills: Kaneki is a real fast learner which allows him to apply theory into practice. He is a literature student, which means he has vast knowledge on many kind of different books - and he loves most books, too. Kaneki also used to work at Anteiku, which is a coffee shop; he knows how to make amazing coffee and since ghouls can only have coffee (besides human flesh), they are sort of specialists on it, including Kaneki.

canon: Captive Prince
canon point: End of Kings Rising
age: 20

(canon) background: CONTENT WARNING
The Captive Prince is a series that deals with slavery, child abuse, sexual abuse, and rape, and as such those subjects are touched on in the summary. Book 1, Book 2, Book 3 and a more detailed summary written by Nekky and I, here

abilities:
Laurent's most dangerous asset is his mind. He is clever, tactical, and viciously intelligent. He is almost always two or three steps ahead of most people, anticipating actions and reactions and planning accordingly. As a prince, he has been trained in many fine arts, though takes most pride in his swordsmanship. He is multilingual, speaking Patran, Vaskian, and Akielon.

strengths:
Many of Laurent's strength lay in his brutal intelligence. He is cunning, focused, and perceptive, taking the time necessary to examine obstacles from all angles, and find the best answer he possibly can to life's more challenging problems. Raised in a high stakes, winner take all political battle with his uncle, even at thirteen Laurent set out to define himself. He is also an extremely manipulative individual, unafraid of using whatever means he has available to him if it furthers his goal. He is also extremely brave, never allowing fear to stop him. Even at his lowest points, including when impaled on a blade through his shoulder and brutally tortured, Laurent doesn't back down, and doesn't allow himself to give up or succumb to fear while captured. Endlessly loyal, Laurent's trust may not be an easy thing to earn- but once given, he will not renege. When he promises to return Damen to his kingship, he puts his own life on the line to do so, and never once second guesses or doubts that this is a worthwhile risk, since he believes in Damen and trusts him. Above all else, Laurent is a survivor; a fighter. Nothing has ever been given to Laurent freely, not love, nor loyalty, and yet Laurent survives and endures- and not only this, but overcomes as well. Beneath his icy exterior, Laurent is above all, kind, and compassionate, but he struggles to show this side of himself, feeling as though it will be taken advantage of, if he does.
weaknesses:
A product of his Uncle's abuse, Laurent is an extremely guarded individual. He has a fear of being seen as vulnerable, or weak, and so he does not trust easily. At times keeping people at arms length, and harming his cause far more than helping him in doing so. He also is deeply critical of himself and his own actions, and has an ingrained sense of self-loathing. He despises his own weaknesses, knowing them all too intimately and having seen them laid out and torn to shreds at the hands of his uncle. Laurent can be extremely reckless at times, and when he is unable to predict an outcome he will throw himself headfirst into whatever might happen, instead leaving it to chance. He knows he is a pretty face, and that for it people tend to underestimate him, but at times Laurent also underestimates himself for it; allowing the voice of his uncle that he carries inside of him to poison his confidence.

When pushed past breaking Laurent becomes unrelentingly vicious and cruel. He eviscerates a young man so effectively with his words that it leads to his self-inflicted death. When he is that unhinged and angry, he loses control and lashes out at the first person or persons that he believes "deserve" it, but no one truly deserves the depth of cruelty that Laurent is capable of.

He's a skilled wrestler, spear-thrower, horse-rider, and sword fighter, and can throw a two-handed broadsword with accuracy clear across a river to spear an enemy. He was also raised as the Crown Prince of his nation, and has had the finest education in politics, economy, geography, history, languages (he speaks Akielon, Veretian, and Patran), leadership, warfare, battle tactics and strategy, combat, and other princely endeavors.

strengths:
Damen is, ultimately, a good person. He's fair and honest, almost too honest - lying doesn't come easily to him, but it makes him easier to trust, because he can't successfully hide himself or his intentions from anyone. He's very straight-forward and confident, he grew up loved by his people and his father and he's never had anything to hide from, at least until his capture. He thinks in a straight line and usually the simplest solutions are the best. He has a strong sense of fairness and justice that are difficult for him to overcome, like when Laurent suggested they dress as Touars' defeated men from Ravenel to get inside the fort, the idea didn't sit well with him, because he naturally despises deception and sees it as dishonorable. Damen is also compassionate, and often thinks of others before himself. He treats the people ranked below him with kindness, and he's the kind of person people want to follow. He is a prideful person, but while in captivity, he puts his own dignity aside to bargain for the other slaves' safety, feeling dutiful toward his people, as their prince and leader. He's also very protective and loyal toward those he cares for. Damen is a trusting man who wants to see the best in people, to the point where his jealous half-brother murdered their father and sold Damen into slavery, but Damen refused to believe it of Kastor until the evidence was too much to ignore. When Laurent's life is in danger, Damen acts rashly and swiftly to save him, even if it means his own death. He wants to be a good king and a kind, honorable man.

weaknesses:
Damen has a lot of faults, most of them more pronounced at the beginning of the series. His biggest flaw is probably his naivete and his obliviousness to the things he doesn't want to acknowledge in life. He sees the world as he wants to see it, in black and white. Despite the signs, he doesn't realize Kastor's betrayal until he's straight up told, and he doesn't see the Regent as a horrible person until the end of the first book. He is also inflexible and slow to bend this worldview, even with proof. He doesn't want to acknowledge that people can do such horrible things (the Regent) or that family can betray you (Kastor). Damen doesn't want to acknowledge that the world isn't black and white, which stems partly from his self-absorbed and self-righteous attitude. He changes his views over the course of the books, but it's hard for him to admit that his father was wrong, and that Veretians are just people, same as Akielons. Damen is also arrogant and prideful. He takes great risks and plunges headfirst into battles he shouldn't be able to win, because he feels like he can. On the battlefield, his confidence definitely borders on arrogance, and he isn't humble about his battle prowess and skill with a sword. He's contradictory in his thoughts sometimes; at first, he doesn't see slavery as a bad thing in Akielos, until he becomes a slave himself. It's a horrible experience for him, because he is prideful and feels it's wrong to be subjected to it, due to his pride. Lastly, Damen has a quick temper and reacts to threats with unthinking violence, such as when the Regent took Laurent hostage.

skills (optional): Very strong, skilled with a sword, good with horses, good at hunting, natural leadership.
housing (optional): Shared, with Laurent if they both get in, please!

[When the video feed clicks on, it is first very, very closely focused on one brown eye, close enough to show the gold flecks around the pupil. Eventually, it pulls out on a tired-looking, olive-skinned young man lying in a hospital bed, wearing a paper gown that is almost a bit too small for his very tall, broad frame - a brand new arrival, who has recently had an injury tended. He's had the little introductory lesson to the network and devices, but the angle on the video is odd, as if he's not entirely sure how to hold it or where to look into.]

Is this all difficult to process for anyone else? Portals, lights that burn without fire, and- Well, I'm speaking into a small box hoping people can see me on their own small boxes. It's so strange, isn't it? [Please tell him he isn't the only one who can't handle this load of information all at once.]

They say I need to do 'community service' before they have the resources to send me back. How long does it take? Has- anyone been able to leave yet? I need to return to my kingdom.

character information
name: Illya Kuryakin
canon: The man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015 movie)
canon point: The little ‘bonfire’ he and Solo make with the tape to destroy it, right before they are assigned to U.N.C.L.E.
age: 32

(canon) background: TMFU at the Wiki

abilities:

Trained spy: Illya works for the KGB, he was one of their best agents and sent into special missions they couldn’t afford to see fail. Solo mentions he rose to the top of the organization unprecedentedly young. His particular skillset seems to be particularly geared into planting bugs on people and discretely spying on them, rather than small talk and blending in. He’s really good at gathering intelligence while staying undetected.

Martial Artist: Illya may be good at being sneaky and discreet but he’s also the one to rely on when it comes to toughness and actual physical fights. He’s a SAMBO champion and a has the 4th Dan at Judo. He’s amazingly strong, able to take down multiple soldiers on his own and to rip up pieces of moving cars with his bare hands. But he doesn’t have any superhuman abilities. (...No, really. He was just apparently really damn pissed.)

He’s also able to use his skills in a less… brute-force kind of way, like when he sent a man to sleep with a slap in the exact place in his neck because he thought he had his father’s watch. He just usually would rather just punch whoever he has to punch and be done with it.

Marksman: His skills with weapons are actually more implied than talked about. We see him use his gun often in the movie, and to get clearance and high ranks in the KGB it’s assumed he would have had to be at least pretty decent with them. But, again, his fists are his weapon of choice.

Others:
> He has an eye for fashion. ...What? It’s important.
> Powerboat champion
> Elo rating 2401, which is pretty impressive. Particularly since the Elo rating wasn’t implemented until later on (yay subtle anachronism)

strengths:
Intellect: It gets shadowed by his bad temper, his inability to rein his emotions sometimes and because his co-protagonist are simply brilliant but Illya is actually pretty darn smart. He’s always able of thinking a couple steps ahead even under pressure, like when he and Solo break into the factory together, and of subtly manipulating people like giving Gaby an engagement ring that’s actually a bug to be able to keep tabs on her (even if Gaby, being a spy herself is not fooled). Illya is also incredibly perceptive to everything and everyone around him. He makes connections quickly, like noticing they were being followed into the hotel or thinking about testing the radiation levels on the Vinciguerras to see if nuclear bombs are close to being complete.

Determination: He’s a very driven man, capable of amazing and nearly super-human things if he puts his mind to it. Like literally catching up with and ripping a car’s part with his bare hands. Everything else becomes irrelevant, he simply has to do the job that’s expected of him and he will stop at nothing to accomplish it. Probably one of the reasons he rose up so quickly in the KGB ranks.

Loyalty: He’s incredibly devoted, both to people important to him and to his country. This is arguably Illya’s biggest personality strength. Illya is cagey, there’s a hundred walls he’s put around himself and he never allows himself to get actually close to people if it’s up to him… but once someone tears them down they will be able to count on him no matter what. Even if he dislikes the person: he’s become loyal to Solo, no matter his personal opinion on the man himself.

weaknesses:

Temperament Boy, is this his weakness. Nearly every good part of his personality gets overshadowed by his bad temper and how badly he reacts to certain things. He’s volatile and incredibly easy to anger, particularly when it comes to talking about his parents or when he feels his trust has been betrayed. He ruins an entire hotel room when he finds out Solo lied to him, he flips tables if his mother is insulted… it’s a long list, really. It’s a big problem of his, and it keeps him from making meaningful relationships with people sometimes.

Stubbornness: Being driven may be one of his strengths, but stubbornness is the other side of the coin. It’s very hard to get Illya to change his mind when it’s set on something, and even when he kind of realizes he’s wrong he will still latch onto an idea and refuse to change like a horse with blindfolds. He’s not stupid, and he usually regrets not listening but his inflexibility goes hand-in-hand with his very bad temper.

Pride: For a man who has honestly plenty of insecurities he also has a lot of pride on himself, to the point where he refuses to be seen as anything but the strongest and he has a nearly compulsive need to be the best. He knew not putting up a fight when being mugged was the best choice to not compromise their covers, and yet he still nearly ruined because he didn’t want to seem weak. He fought three young Italian guys because they insulted him. He has a hard time admitting any of his teammates may be better at anything than him, or that American anything may be better than Russian.

skills (optional): He speaks different languages, he’s a trained spy and he’s good with guns
housing (optional): -

network username: As a spy Illya is a paranoid little shit so he’s gonna go with R.Peril

network sample:
[Illya doesn’t usually… no, let’s be fair here: Illya usually avoids the network. Particularly the video function of it. He knows, by know that he’s safe here until he can get back home and that it doesn’t really matter if people see his face, but old habits are hard to get rid of. And he’s simply more comfortable hiding away in the shadows.

But sometimes, the best way to gather information is a direct way. But he still looks stiff and awkward as he talks into the camera.]

I know we come from different… years. [He finally says.] And different places in the world. The technology in this place… some of it is impressive, to me. I have question.

Is the level of technology the same, for you? Or is it more? Or perhaps less? Please elaborate.

[A curt nod.]

Thank you.

● abilities: Kaneki is a half-ghoul that retained mostly ghoul characteristics. Ghouls are a species similar to humans that can only eat humans in order to survive, usually needing about 1 to 2 bodies a month to thrive. They have several organs and abilities that makes them different from humans, but externally look exactly like any human.

- Kakuhou: It's a sac-like internal organ that stores and concentrates special calles called RC cells (gained through the consumption of humans), located on the on the back of the ghoul. Kaneki’s kahuhou is located by the waist.

- Kagune: Through the binding of RC cells, a ghoul can form another organ that is expelled from within the ghoul's body through the kakuhou (which means it comes out from the back. In Kaneki's case, his rinkaku kagune comes out from his waist area). Kagunes are used as defense and offense, and they can cut through most materials and can't be destroyed by anything other than kagunes. Kaneki’s rinkaku looks like three red scaled tentacles with a scary striking power, excelling excels at brute strength because the RC cells bind together with much ease - however, the binding force among them is weak and that makes the kagune fragile; that means enough force can indeed break Kaneki's kagune (a punch will not, but metal beams falling on it will).

- RC cells pathways: RC cells travel through a ghoul's body using specialized vessels but because Kaneki was originally a human, he doesn't have any vessels. Because of this, these vessels are created when Kaneki needs the cells over a certain part of his body, and as this happens, the cells can travel along the body much faster - which allow him more strenght and faster regeneratio. This means every time Kaneki gets physically hurt, new pathways form, and thus stronger he becomes and faster his regeneration ability is. This is permanent and the pathways remain after created. However, Kaneki must be fed and that this "boost" is not immediate (the body needs time to adjust).

- Enhanced physical condition: A ghoul is much stronger than a human, usually compared to the strength of about 9-10 men, also faster and with much better reflexes, stamina, agility and balance, or even highten senses (eyesight, earing, smell, etc)- all of this can be properly trained. They are much more resilient, capable of taking several critical hits; in fact, Kaneki is known for his endurance and ability to withstand a lot of pain and torture, though he still has not experienced this. Their skin can't be pierced by most materials, thanks to the RC-cells; a gun-shot to the head or a knife will not cut through a ghoul's skin. Only stronger materials can do so, or a strong enough force (like metal bars falling on top of a ghoul from huge heights, yeah that can kill them). Membranes, however – such as the eyes, lips, nostrils (and the rest…) can be easily pierced and there are laboratory-created products that can block the RC cells binding, which renders the ghoul's abilities null, or even specialized weapons.

- Regeneration : Ghouls also have regeneration abilities thanks to their RC cells as well, that travel from the Kakuhou to the wound through the pathways (or, in a half-ghoul's case, new pathways are created as they pass through the body). Kaneki has a huge regenerative ability due to his kagune type; rinkakus rely greatly on their regenerative abilities thanks to Rc cells that easily bind together. However, once again, his regeneration also comes from the RC pathways, as they are continuously being created whenever he gets hurt.

Oh no I totally misread that (as... 300 per strength/weakness, I don't even know), I'm sorry! Revisions below, with Eluvio notes indented:

● strengths:

focus/drive. Victor has been focused on his skating career (and that alone) for the last twenty years. He's strict with himself and those around him, keeping on task and driving toward his goals, whatever they may be. He applies this to figuring out the means of adapting to and surviving in new situations and circumstances, where focus and a drive to succeed help him adapt and look to learning new skills as they become relevant and necessary.
In Eluvio, this extended to learning how to move in zero-g and picking up self-defense training.
charisma/crowd handling. Victor's noted in canon to always be kind to his fans. He's a laid back flirt as well as easy-going when surrounded by fans/strangers. He's used to living a life in the public eye. He's capable at handling social niceties and more political(ish) situations as needed, such as those encountered with sponsors and bigwigs in his sport; it extends to him learning how to better network when networking is a survival mechanism and not just a social outreach.
In Eluvio, this meant keeping in touch with and being a welcoming face for new arrivals, specifically to keep aware of the arrivals of people on ship and networking with those who'd arrived since he had, as the new arrivals seemed to be largely on their own.
intelligence/manipulation/calculation. Victor is intelligent, for all he's also laidback and presents as whimsical (and is whimsical based on his desires to be so). Where he isn't intuitive reading emotional states in people when he's their emotional support, he's intuitive at reading a crowd. He pulls strings to push people to strive for their best; it's not an unkind sort of manipulation, but it is calculated. This can and does backfire on him time to time. He adjusts his approach as he goes. He's willing and able to admit he's wrong; he actively learns from his mistakes when they're important to him.

● weaknesses:

whimsical. Whimsy with Victor is a nod to his tendency to be make promises and be forgetful about things he doesn't find personally important. This comes as a frustration to those who know him; including how he decides pursue something wholeheartedly without listening to outside input and end up making drastic seeming decisions on his own. Whimsy is dangerous when it comes to pursuing activities or taking up missions (so to speak) without fully thinking through consequences or being adequately prepared for what may come up in the process. Whimsy has him dismissing people out of hand because they're not "interesting."
In Eluvio, he's been working on not being so dismissive or whimsical in what he takes up or does as a matter of necessity in surviving outside of his canon context. He has to think things better through. He can't afford to dismiss people out of hand.
emotional disconnect/distance. Victor struggles with understanding emotional points of view that are different from his own. While he learns over time to offer emotional support, he is not intuitive about this, even when he really cares about the person/people involved. Victor's used to relying on himself for emotional support; his first assumption is that everyone else does the same or would outright ask if they need help.
He's been working on this on the Eluvio, though most his progress has been with Yuuri or in how he was trying to learn to be a better source of emotional support for people around him. Success was understandably mixed.
(over)confidence. Victor fails to consistently communicate his confidence in others, making assumptions based on that confidence which creates a blind spot that can lead to unfortunate situations when his confidence is unfounded, or causes miscommunication because his confidence in people knowing what he means or being on the same level is not always merited. It leads to him mistakenly believing things are being handled, or being better handled, than they are in truth.

character information
name: Lois Lane
canon: DCEU
canon point: end of Man of Steel
age: 39

(canon) background: Wikia.
(original) world: n/a

abilities:
Lois is a regular human being, so no nerfing will be necessary. As far as human abilities go:
— she’s intelligent
— good at discerning patterns
— good at getting information out of people
— excellent writer & investigative journalist
— probably has some training with handling guns (as per her military father and maybe also her time embedded in the military, but the latter is headcanon and the first based more on comics than anything shown in the films)

strengths:
Lois is very determined: once she has an idea for a story, she won’t let anyone or anything stand in her way. She’s gone up against the US military, big corporations and the like and refuses to back down even when (or especially when) threatened. Her determination is very much influenced by a firm belief in telling the truth and informing people of what goes on in the world. Aside from her determination, she is also quite confident in her abilities, knowing what she can do and achieve and knowing that she is very good at her job.

Lois has a strong sense of justice and cares for people, which plays into the above, but deserves a mention of its own: she believes in helping people, and telling the truth and informing them of what governments or corporations or individuals are up to that impacts their lives is her way of doing that. Her sense of justice and desire to help people comes across clearly in her conversations with Clark, too, when she supports him in helping people even when he himself doubts what he does. Lois will always do what she believes is right, no matter what the cost to her.

Lois is very intelligent and a great investigative journalist. She’s incredibly inquisitive and willing to put in a lot of time and effort into finding answers.

weaknesses:
The flipside of Lois’ determination is that she is stubborn and uncompromising. She won’t take no to an answer and she’d rather play hardball than back down. This can be detrimental to personal relationships or her career (though ultimately, she’s too good a reporter to get fired over it).

Her strong focus on finding the truth can make her seem unapproachable at times, just as her confidence may be perceived as arrogance by some (especially those who would feel threatened by a confident woman). While I would argue Lois is neither of these things, being perceived as such may be a weakness in her line of work when she needs people to trust her.

Her confidence and self-assuredness can also lead to somewhat reckless behaviour at times, like when she basically follows an unknown guy who is stronger and taller than her onto a mysterious object without letting anyone know where she’s going or what she’s doing. All in the name of uncovering the truth, of course. Good thing it was Clark, not some villainous type.

skills (optional): 1. investigative journalism, 2. writing, 3. asking questions
housing (optional): maybe somewhere near Clark?

character information
name: Margaret "Mae" Borowski
canon: Night in the Woods
canon point: Post-game, Bea friendship route
age: 20

(canon) background: There's a fan wiki article here, along with details about "the incident" and Mae's dreams, though it's less than complete, so I'll do my best to try and fill in the gaps.

Upon returning to Possum Springs, Mae is met with an uneasy reception, her friends and family either happy to have her back or suspicious as to why she'd leave college for (apparently) no reason. Still, there's a powerful sense of nostalgia in spite of how much seems to have changed, and for the first few days, it seems like everything's going to be alright. The severed arm she and her friends find lying on the ground doesn't help much. Really, it's the first sign that things are about to get weird, not that any of them would know it at the time.

From there things seem relatively normal, aside from Mae getting stupid drunk off some watered-down beer and making an ass of herself at a party, until Halloween rolls around. Left alone on an empty street, all three of her close friends occupied with other stuff, she spots a kidnapping out the corner of her eye. With nobody around to help, she decides to chase them down herself, only to find them at the other side of a seemingly unclimbable fence. With seeing no way around, Mae has no choice but to return home, confused and more than a little panicked. Her dreams only get worse, leaving her with splitting headaches and the sense that somebody is in her head.

There's only one conclusion to come to: that was a goddamn ghost she just saw.

She brings the news to her friends as quick as she can manage, and though they're skeptical at first, they agree that something strange is definitely afoot and agree to help Mae look into it. Between her worsening mental state and a general lack of evidence, they don't manage to dig up much, aside from further attestations that some seriously freaky shit is going on and the fact that, whatever it is they're looking into, it's happening somewhere in the woods.

Deciding that enough is enough, Mae sets off into the forest, friends in tow. The walk leads them to the entrance of an abandoned mine, dimly lit and absolutely swarming with men dressed almost identically to their "ghost", long utility coats and masks. They don't see much before Mae, in a moment of shock, gives them away, and they're forced to flee. Just before Mae gets away, a stray gunshot startles her, sending her tumbling down a steep incline and hitting her head more than a few times on the way down.

She's in and out of consciousness from there, passing out after trying to stagger her way home, then waking up at the hospital, then again at her house. This is the worst she's ever felt. She can't eat, her head feels like it's caught in a vice, and Possum Springs is dissolving into indistinct shapes all around her. Still, she manages to get to her friend Gregg's apartment, where the others are keeping their heads down and hoping that nobody followed them back from the mines.

After resting up and pouring her heart out to her friends, Mae decides to sneak off in the middle of the night, aiming to face down the "ghost" one last time. She's followed, of course, because none of the band could just let her do this incredibly stupid thing in good conscience. They're with her to the end.

They stick the "ghost" with a well-aimed crossbow bolt and follow him as he flees into the mines. Inside is a whole lot of cultists with a whole lot of guns, and an explanation for pretty much everything. Possum Springs is dying, they say, and Mae can't help but agree. Businesses closing down, people leaving for greener pastures, all the industry bled out. But there's something that can save them, they say, down deep beneath the earth. It'll breathe life back into the town, get the mills and factories running again. All it needs is to be fed.

Nobody important, though. Nobody people will miss. Just no-name bums with nothing to contribute to society anyway. Like the girl on Halloween. Like her friend Casey, who'd gone missing months ago. Everyone thought he'd just hopped a train out of town.

It sounds crazy, but Mae knows for a fact that there's something down there. It's been calling for her all this time, now louder than ever. The band are forced to leave empty-handed, terrified and enraged. One of the cultists catches them on the elevator ride up, however, and though he soon ends up decapitated, they're left stranded in an empty mine full of gun-toting strangers.

They manage to find a way out, though, and Mae takes one last opportunity to spit in the face of the thing that's been haunting her ever since she came back. Possum Springs is going to die someday, and when it does she wants it to hurt. Because then it'll have meant something. She clambers up the inside of an old well, towards the surface, and calls for help.

Soon, the band are safe and sound on solid ground, the last remaining entrance to the mine sealed with dynamite. Everyone tries very, very hard not to think of how they definitely just left all of those people to die.

Still, life goes on, and the next day Mae feels... not the best, but better than she's felt in awhile. No nightmares, no headaches, a new taco place down by where the Pastabilities used to be. Her family's still in debt, and the town's still dying, and whatever was down in the mines is still down there, but the band's all together. So, it's not all that bad. She'll live, at least.

abilities: Aside from being generally sturdy and having an impeccable sense of balance, Mae's just your average out-of-shape twentysomething.

strengths:

Caring
Despite her faults, Mae genuine does give a shit about the people around her, doing her level best to comfort them when they're upset and generally trying to be as supportive of her friends as she can. She quickly gets attached to strangers, inanimate objects, and vermin, and you'll often find Mae doing favors or helping out without even being asked first. It doesn't always go as planned, but what can you do?

Bold
It takes a lot to really rattle Mae, though she's far from invincible. Reacting to things like severed human arms and potentially haunted houses with either curiosity or just a vague sort of unease, it can be hard to tell when she's really, genuinely terrified and when everything is a-okay. Similarly, she rarely thinks twice where other people may hesitate. Like say, jumping off the roof of a three-story building, or chasing after a murderous ghost into an abandoned mine.

Persistent
Mae's a mess. There's no two ways about it. But she's a mess that you can't keep down for long, and there's something admirable about that. Long-term setbacks are another story, but when it comes to the here-and-now, Mae will bang her head against a problem for as long as it takes.

weaknesses:

Impulsive
Preferring to think on her feet, Mae doesn't really dedicate a lot of brainpower (or any at all) towards planning ahead. It's not that she prefers to live in the moment, it's just that it can be hard to overcome the instinct to do or say the first thing that pops into her head. The future is something to worry about later and consequences don't exist, and while this is definitely something she's cooled down on a little in the past couple days, it's still very much an issue.

Dense
She's not stupid, as much evidence as there is to the contrary, but it can take a while for things to really get through Mae's skull. She'll space out or get distracted by something or just plain not understand the situation. This can lead to some unfortunate misunderstandings, and definitely more than a few arguments.

Anxiety
Mae doesn't take well to uncomfortable situations. New places or big social gatherings or unspoken tension puts her on edge, and it's not a feeling she likes having to deal with. She'll usually try to vent it somehow, drinking or breaking stuff or just generally being self-destructive and gross. At worst, it'll trigger her psychosis, experiencing episodes of derealization and occasional disassociation, leaving her confused and angry and really, really scared.

* Extremely basic cooking
* Breaks stuff real good

canon: Original Character
canon point: August 2020, three months after arriving in Tannery Hill, right when a group of hunters makes their way into town looking for a retired hunter who lives on the outskirts of the small rural village.
age: 22

(canon) background: n/a
(original) world: Current location is Tannery Hill, Colorado in the United States of America.

This is a world very similar to our own, only Were-breeds exist that have lived alongside humans peacefully and then not-so-peacefully as they disputed over territory and Weres rejecting human authority over them. The fighting and deaths became great enough that Hunters and Weres agreed to a treaty that gave stronger Weres authority in their territories as long as they didn’t unjustifiably attack humans, disrupt human settlements that already existed, given them right to approve or refuse new settlements, and Hunters would limit their hunting to Weres who had gone fully feral and/or committed crimes against humans. But Hunters and Weres alike found ways around the treaty agreements, keeping the tension high. Also, while the stronger Breeds and clans were safe and honored within the treaty, weaker Breeds were conveniently left out of the dialogue and protections. Weaker breeds like the Jackalope are used as fodder and prey, hunted by stronger Weres and Hunters alike as easy kills due to their vulnerable beast-forms and their weaknesses against iron and silver.

Even in the year 2020, Jackalopes hide themselves and use a nomadic lifestyle to stay under the radar from stronger Weres and Hunters so as to not be killed or taken as thralls. Jackalopes have a strong culture of nonviolence and avoidance of conflict, to the point that they may even leave behind some of their own family and children if they are caught and think their family drove in danger of being caught, saving the many at the cost of the one or few. This is due to the curse that led some of them turning into feral carnivorous beasts who would kill their own kind for food when they allowed themselves to become too enraged or feed on raw meats when vegetables and fruits were hard to come by. This didn’t stop them being prey for other Weres as they are still greatly smaller and weaker, but it devastated their population at the time and they needed a way to save their breed. It’s been so long that few living Jackalope know this truth about their culture. Jackalopes also have a very strict view of mating, as they want to limit the number of litters each Pairing has if only to make it easier for them to hide them and keep them safe. Mating season is natural imperative to them, but they are encouraged to avoid mating when in their beast form. Instead it’s encouraged to make in human form or with humans to avoid the chance for large litters.

Tolemi is a Jackalope from a very large family, third oldest in the third litter who was sent off into the world after gaining the ability to shift into his human-form as is the Werehare custom, and has been traveling on his own for eight years, using the Bramble underground network to stay in contact with other Jackalopes when he can, and to help him with funds or connections if needed to maintain his low profile. He even created his own last name “Pagoda” by picking it off the name of a kiosk in a mall he was in using a public telephone after he was first pushed out on his own. He worked at a fast food restaurant first and then got a job as a waiter at restaurant called The Corkscrew where he met Josiah, the owner and led chef. When Josiah was injured he pulled Tolemi into the kitchen to be his arms and it’s been love at first spice ever since for Tolemi. Cooking, baking, barbecuing, all of it. The culinary arts became his passion. He stayed in that town for over a year, but would eventually move on and travel, studying and taking advice from any cooks or chefs he could meet while he did so while keeping himself as low key as possible.

Unlike majority of his brethren, Tolemi doesn’t agree with the belief of nonviolence and “Flee to be free” in the face of hunters and other Werebreeds. From the loss of many of his siblings as his parents fled when they were discovered and after an attack by a mugger wanting his tip money after work one night, came the realization that avoidance of all conflict left him vulnerable to even average human with a weapon. This pushed him to want to become stronger and capable of taking care of himself, so he took the advice of a friend, Ren and began working out, taking mix martial arts and kickboxing courses and training himself to be prepared for the next attack.

He isn’t going to run anymore and he’ll go after anyone who comes for him, although he doesn’t go out of his way to look for confrontation—most of the time. In the various towns he’s found himself in, Tolemi has studied and practiced to gain a very strong skill in the culinary arts, and often looks for jobs that allow him to cook or bake, but he also does other odd jobs and handyman work to keep himself fed, as he doesn’t like relying entirely on the charity of the Bramble.

Expanded Setting/History

abilities:
Beast shift: As all Jackalope who make it to Near Grown years, Tolemi has the ability to shift between his beast-self and his “human” self. He also grows antler-like horns as all Jackalope do (although male Jackalope’s horns can be up to a foot tall while female Jackalope are only a six or so inches) and if cut off they grow back, but slower each time.

Were physiology: Superior speed and agility to humans and most Were breeds, especially in their beast-form. Enhanced sense of smell and hearing. Enhanced vision allows him to see further and his beast-form gives him a wider range of vision than his human one.

Camouflage: Tolemi can temporarily mask himself by blending into his surroundings with glamour type magic that makes people overlook their hiding spots. Only works when he is focusing solely on hiding and only lasts for fifteen minutes at a time before he needs to cancel the effect of face severe migraines.

Culinary skills with natural instincts: Tolemi has a natural talent for culinary arts that he’s honed over six years of traveling to experience and study various foods and cooking styles cross the USA. This is helped by an aptitude for edible plants and items in the wild, a natural instinct of what should and shouldn't be eaten and what isn't worth eating to get any value out of it.

strengths:
Resilient - Tolemi has lost family and friends, and knows he could be killed if a Hunter or another Were gets the drop on him, but he’s not giving up. He’s living life in a mix of hypervigilance and “give no fucks” attitude where he’s almost challenging people to come at him and try and take away what happiness he’s found for himself. He doesn’t run away or give up when things get hard because things have always been hard, to him, and it makes him feel like if he can’t make it then his parents made the wrong choice to save him instead of other siblings they left behind while on the run.

Compassionate - Tolemi will always have a soft spot for those he sees as weaker and more vulnerable than himself, especially children. He remembers the feeling of being that person, of needing the extra help, and can be impulsive at times about putting himself out there to help others even if they didn’t perhaps ask for it. Whether it’s helping a little old lady weed her garden, stepping in when someone is being disrespected, or even pushing a lonely kid on a swing at the playground, he can’t help his desire to make people feel less weak or alone than they were.

Loyal - He doesn’t let people in easily but when someone has proven themselves to him, Tolemi will never give up on them. He will stand by them, won’t leave town without saying goodbye, and if he comes back that way has to take the time to see them. Not a lot of people matter to him intimately and those that do are very important to him.

weaknesses:
Stubborn temper - While not someone who gets easily worked up, Tolemi has a temper and a lot of deep-seated anger over his lot in life and that leads him to becoming confrontational and aggressive at times when maybe he doesn’t need to. He tries to keep himself in check, as he doesn’t want to make a scene if he doesn’t have to, but if he feels he’s been insulted, that someone weaker/vulnerable needs help, he’s going to make his opinion known and not back down.

Fear - Much of what Tolemi does, his grumpiness, his blunt way of speaking, and his distrust of the world is because he’s never quite let go of the fear of the unknown, of the possibility he could be killed or taken captive as a thrall. He tries to portray himself as strong and unafraid of what may come, not that he’s stronger and able to protect himself, but the fear has been there his whole life.

Rude - He can be polite, cordial, and even flirtatious when he wants to, but often he just doesn’t. Tolemi doesn’t care if people like him and assumes they are potential threats first, so why spare courtesy on them unless he sees them as someone vulnerable that needs it. He talks in a blunt, rough manner, as if people are guilty until proven innocent and it can make it hard want to get close to him at first.

Inferiority Complex - Tolemi feels that everyone sees him as lesser because he’s a Jackalope and the need to prove himself affects a lot of his decisions, including letting his temper and stubbornness get the best of him when it shouldn’t, such as starting a fight over someone saying his meat wasn’t cooked well enough.

skills (optional): Culinary skills, general handyman skills (unclogging sinks, repairing leaky pipes, working with his hands, etc.), and his sense of smell/hearing is advanced
housing (optional): Communal housing sounds good!

So we’re stuck here and have to get used to it. Who knows the best place to check out fresh foods and spices? I’m not sitting around eating whatever they give me until I know what’s in it. They could be feeding us alien donkey balls for all we know.

Just because we’re stuck on stuck in another world doesn’t mean we have to eat like heathens.

character information
name: Dr. Leonard Horatio McCoy
canon: Star Trek AOS
canon point: Beyond
age: 36

(canon) background: Leonard McCoy’s History

abilities:
McCoy is the Chief Medical Officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He can fulfill the role of many types of medical procedures from general practitioner to any type of surgery. His skills even allow him to call his hands ‘legendary’ for the things that he has accomplished as a well-practiced physician. Where he started off only working on Human physiology, he branched out to cover as many races as possible with xenobiology.

As a Starfleet officer, he is also versed in firing weapons, hand to hand combat, piloting and even survival in extreme situations. Where he prefers to stick with his work in medical, he is quite capable and in very good shape to do more than just be a doctor. (Also, because of these abilities to function in extreme scenarios, he can also do emergency first aid using what he has at hand.)

strengths:
Has it together: Where he has a tendency to complain about scenarios, complications, and other factors, when under pressure he gets it done. He can figure it out and work through it and his own fears with the right motivation. (Which usually includes Jim asking him to or protecting the people he cares about.) Leonard knows there is a time and place for everything, including his grumpier nature and strong dislike for things going south. Regardless of these things, he will get what needs to be done, done. He is always reliable in that sense and will not let anyone down, especially his captain.

Kindness: On initial meeting, Leonard comes off as grumpy and unapproachable. In fact, if you see him interact with Kirk or Spock, you’d wonder how anyone gets along with him. On the other hand, he cares a great deal about any he treats of all ages, sizes, and race. He is a born doctor. He thought as a child that he wouldn’t want to be a doctor until helping a girl that broke her arm when he was a teenager. From that moment on, his passion has pushed him to being a great and thorough physician. He will help anyone that is in need and get them put back together. Even if he has ill feeling about a situation or group of people, he will still do the right thing as a doctor and keep his oath. All life is precious. He is also a very father like figure. This makes him prone to look out for those younger than him and worry about them too much. If he can help, he will. Be it advice or actually getting into a mess with them to get them out. He is loyal to a fault. Once he takes you in as someone important to him, he will help you out through good and bad.

Function under pressure: Much like getting things done, he is still a surgeon. Surgeons can work under the worst of circumstances and make the hard decisions rationally that most cannot. His hands area always steady and he can pull off miracles earning him that title of ‘legendary hands’. In the same way, this is seen when he alters an alien blaster and a piece of flak to help cauterize Spock’s wound in Beyond without complaint or hesitation. He gets it done and he does it well.

weaknesses:
Grumpy as all hell: McCoy is sadly, not a ray of sunshine. He is a pessimist at best though he calls himself a realist. He doesn’t like to see the ‘bright side’ he wants the reality of it. And because of this, his demeanor comes off blunt and grouchy. He says what he thinks when he thinks it, leaving no room for any talent in things that require diplomacy. (This is definitely seen as he refers to Jim’s father as having “bit the dust”, earning a comment about his poor bedside manners.) Don’t expect him to be the one to talk anyone important down. (Not that he can’t, but generally he is not your best choice.)

Opens his mouth and says things when he shouldn’t: Much like above, the doctor just opens his mouth and says what he thinks. It is not always necessarily intended to be ‘negative’ but it certainly comes off that way. He often comments (using colorful metaphors and similes) about stupid decisions and has no qualms whatsoever telling you they are stupid. This doesn’t always endear him to people, but those closest to him know to ignore some of his less than shining moments. Especially when he is uncomfortable. It also doesn’t help that he will point out the obvious danger in any situation just in case anyone failed to notice it themselves (say, a giant snow globe in space waiting to be broken).

Phobias of flying and space: Leonard McCoy is horrified by flying. That includes space travel and the fear of not knowing what things may face him off in the near future. It’s not that he can’t conquer those fears when necessary, it just doesn’t have him making himself a ready volunteer where heights, air travel, and space are concerned (unless you are Jim Kirk and drag him out to do those things and ignore his incessant complaining as he does it).

skills (optional): Aside from medical training, he is well versed in psychology (with a doctorate in it), he keeps a steady hand no matter the circumstances, improvises when necessary, and loves to learn given the chance.

housing (optional): Preferably near or with Jim if possible.
